Remnant, Mountain Glenn, 81 AGW
Around a campfire, the members of team RWBY, as well as Doctor Oobleck, were on a mission to investigate the ruins of the fallen city. Ruby had taken the nightwatch position, allowing the rest to sleep.
However, due to Oobleck's prior questioning, the other three members were having trouble doing that. Weiss talked about how she wanted to redeem her company's now tarnished reputation, and how Blake wanted to mend the hatred between Faunus and humans.
Yang spoke up, "At least you two have something that drives you. I've just kind of always gone with the flow, y'know? And that's fine, I mean, that's who I am."
While Ruby could only vaguely hear her teammates' conversation, she saw something bright and white streaking across the stars.
"Oh," she giggled, "Zwei, a shooting star. Make a wish."
Said corgi barked happily.
"But how long can I really do that for? I wanna be a Huntress, not really because I want to be a hero, but because I want the adventure."
Then, as Ruby watched the white streak across the sky, she saw an explosion on the side of the 'star', silent to her due to its distance.
"Wait, what?" Ruby muttered.
"I want a life where I won't know what tomorrow will bring. And that'll be a good thing."
The 'star' began plummeting downward.
"Uh," Ruby said, a drop of sweat going down the side of her head, "Girls?" Unfortunately, she said it too quietly for them to hear.
"Being a Huntress just happens to line up with that. I'm not like Ruby, she's always wanted to be a Huntress."
"Girls."
This time, Doctor Oobleck opened his eyes, noticing the higher tone of Ruby's voice, as well as the sound of roaring that was getting louder and louder.
"It's like she said, ever since she was a kid-"
"Girls!"
At Ruby's scream, everyone turned…to see a giant fireball rocketing towards them.
"Holy shit!" Yang cried out.
"Get down!" Oobleck commanded, everyone ducking out of the camp as the fireball rocketed above them, slamming through a building…scratch that, several buildings.
"Okay," Yang said, "What the hell was that?!"
"Could that have been the White Fang?" Weiss questioned, rapier at the ready.
"N-No…" Ruby said in awe, "I…I think it was a spaceship!"
"What?!" WBY exclaimed in shock.
"Miss Rose," Oobleck replied, "Are you certain?" On the one hand, he found the idea ridiculous. On the other first contact with a possible alien race made his mind spin for joy.
"Yeah. We need to make sure they're okay."
"Wait, Ruby," Blake interjected, "Shouldn't we call Beacon? As ridiculous as it sounds, if this is an alien ship, we can't just rush in."
"Normally, I would agree," Oobleck answered, "However, this situation is rather difficult. With Grimm around, the occupants of that ship will have no knowledge of them, and could be in potential danger. If it is an alien shuttle, we can't have first contact ruined because of the Grimm."
"Yes," Ruby silently cheered, "Let's go!"
As the group began following the trail of destruction left by the crash, Ruby recounted what she saw earlier with the 'star', which either dismissed their skepticism, or boltered their belief in the alien ship theory. Eventually, the trail ended…right into the fifth floor of a skyscraper.
Oobleck adjusted his glasses. "Miss Rose, you said an explosion caused this ship to crash down."
"Yes?"
Oobleck then pointed at the ship's starboard engines, which were completely blown out. "I think I know what caused it. Now, we'll be going up the building floor by floor, slowly. We don't want to make them aggressive towards us."
And so, the five quietly went up the skyscraper. They could hear commotion above them as they ascended, but, upon reaching the fourth floor, the commotion suddenly stopped. Oobleck's thermos turned into a staff as he motioned for RWBY to stay back. He slowly climbed up the stairs, making as little noise as possible.
"Guys." Weiss, who was at the back of the group, said nervously. No one turned to her, all focused on Oobleck.
"Weiss," Blake whispered, "Be quiet, we don't want them to hear us."
"I think they know we're here."
"What makes you think-" Yang turned to Weiss…only to see a double barreled gun pressed against the back of her head. The one holding it was a robot of some sorts, dark blue and dark orange, with a reddish/orange scarf around his neck. Its yellow glowing eye coldly stared into the others. Zwei was growling at the robot.
Under normal circumstances, a gun to their head wouldn't be a problem since they had Aura. But these were aliens. Who knows how powerful their weapons were, or if they could just simply bypass Aura all together.
"Drop 'em." The robot spoke! When Oobleck heard the words, he turned around, intent on rescuing his student, only for a pair of blades of wrap around his neck. A second robot, jet black, was right above him, hanging upside down, its yellow eye briefly showing a red angry face before going back to yellow. Weiss dropped her rapier, followed by the rest of them dropping their weapons. The rifle robot kicked RWBY's weapons to the side, while the bladed one grabbed Oobleck's.
"Now," the rifle bot declared, "Here's what's going to happen. You're going back downstairs, leaving the building, and we'll toss you your weapons."
"Look," Oobleck exclaimed, "We mean no harm. You're the first alien lifeforms to visit our world, and our world is full of dangerous lifeforms. We just wanted to make sure you were safe."
"Sure, but I don't care. So, move slo-Razor, what's wrong?"
The bladed robot, now known as Razor, was looking at RWBY, the yellow eye now a white question mark. He pointed at…Ruby.
"Huh?" Ruby replied.
"Commander?" the gun bot exclaimed, "What are you doing here? Wait, no, you can't be her. You're too short."
Ruby pouted, crossing her arms, "I'm not short."
"Hold your rifle, Rocket," a metallic voice came from above, "I wish to see them for myself."
"Yes, Lieutenant!"
Oobleck turned to the top of the staircase, and saw what he presumed to be their leader, and his eyebrows widened in shock.
The leader was a two foot tall, green eyed, simple looking robot.
"Forgive us," the robot said, descending the stairs, "We are all still shellshocked from our crash."
Razor removed his blades from Oobleck's neck, as Rocket lowered his rifle. Two more robots came down with the smaller one.
The first one was painted white and gold, with its left arm being a cannon of some sort, while a shield was attached to the right arm. The second one was all purple, and had a rocket attached to its back.
"Greetings," the two foot robot declared, "I am XJ-0461. But everyone just calls me Clank. You've met Rocket and Razor, the two behind me are Bulwark and Doc."
"Forgive us for our aggression," the white one apologized, "We simply sought to defend ourselves."
"Says you!" the purple one yelled, "I for one was looking forward to exterminating them. Oh, I'm sorry, I'm not usually that mean with strangers. Shut it, you fool!"
"Um," Blake nervously replied, "Hi."
Clank then approached RWBY, pointing at Ruby. "Could you come closer?"
Yang spoke up angrily, "Why?" Why were these aliens interested in her sister?
"I mean no harm. Simply confirming something."
Ruby nodded, walking up and kneeling to Clank.
"Who are you?"
"R-Ruby Rose."
"Rose…" Clank turned to Yang, "Then you must be Yang Xiao Long."
"Yea-" Yang initially replied, then the words sunk in, "Wait, how do you know my name?!"
"Bulwark, do we still have the photo of your team's graduation party on the ship?"
"Of course, Lieutenant, I shall never part with it."
"Please retrieve it."
Bulwark ran back upstairs as Oobleck rejoined RWBY. During the interim, Rocket and Doc handed back their weapons just as Bulwark came back down with a circular device. Handing it to Clank, he activated it, revealing a holographic image. It was clearly a party, if the giant banner saying WE DID IT in the background was anything. It had the five robots they've met, plus a few others, a furry cat person, and…
"Mom?" Ruby muttered. There, in the middle of the picture, between Clank and the cat person, was Summer Rose. "You know mom?!"
"Summer Rose is one of my closest friends," Clank turned to the other robots, "Hunter Squad, I believe we've found Remnant."
Razor's head showed a firework, then a smiling face.
"Really?" Doc cheered, "That's great! Awww, I wanted to do some exterminating on the local populace. Don't worry, buddy, this world has those Grimm monsters she talked. First, shut up, you buffoon, and I will gladly take my frustration out on the local wildlife, but it's not the same."
"Wait, wait, wait!" Yang cried out, "HOW do you know about mom?!"
"It's a long and wondrous story, but, first…is there an encampment we can gather at? I don't believe this location is safe."
"Yes," Oobleck exclaimed, beyond happy this encounter ended the best way possible, "About a block away."
"Then let us gather there. Bulwark, could you-"
"Ship's energy shield is already activated, Sir."
"Well done."
With that, the group of ten (plus dog) regathered at RWBY's campsite.
"Hunters," Clank ordered, "Patrol the perimeter. This will be a long story."
"Yes, Sir!" Rocket, Bulwark, and Doc exclaimed, while Razor's eye gave a thumbs up. As they left, RWBY and Oobleck sat down, with Oobleck getting a notepad ready, his eyes sparkling with excitement.
"So," Yang exclaims, "You know mom?"
"Yes. She's been a good friend for many years."
"So she's alive?" Ruby questioned, almost pleadingly.
"Why, yes. And, once we get our ship repaired, we'll be able to easily contact her."
Ruby and Yang were in tears. Over a decade with no knowledge of what happened to their mother, and, now, she was practically a broken phone call away.
"But how did you come to know her?" Oobleck questioned.
"That is a complicated question. Tell me, what year is it, in Remnant time?"
"81 After Great War." Weiss replied.
"Hmm, that lines up with the time rift."
"Time rift?" Oobleck replied.
"Something we'll get to in a later point of our story. But, I think we should start…" Clank cupped his chin, "Perhaps on the day Summer Rose left your home, years ago."
Author's Notes: And welcome to a new passion project of mine. Ratchet and Clank is on of my childhood games, and, having finally gotten Rift Apart (PC port, PS5s are still too damn expensive), I decided to do a massive crossover. This is going to be a much longer (chapter wise) story than I usually work with, but that comes with a tradeoff. This story is going to be assuming you played/watched the Ratchet series, so there will be very little descriptions in locations. Now, what games are we coverings:
Ratchet and Clank-Yes
Going Commando-Kinda
Up Your Arsenal-Yes
Deadlocked-Yes
Going Mobile-No
Size Matters-Mentioned
Tools of Destruction-Yes
Secret Agent Clank-No
Quest for Booty-Mentioned
A Crack in Time-Yes
All 4 One-No
Full Frontal Assault-No
Into the Nexus-Mentioned
Ratchet and Clank (PS4)-No
Rift Apart-Depends
Now, why are Going Commando and Rift Apart different from the rest. Well, Going Commando is spoiler related, but, needless to say, Ratchet's journey won't be affected too much.
With Rift Apart...that one's more complicated. I haven't decided if Clank's story should end before Rift Apart, and then we have the events of Rift Apart occur afterwards, just now with RWBY and Co. involved. With how much things will change in regards to Ratchet's journey due to Summer, Rift Apart's already going to be nuts on its own. I'm just worried adding RWBY into the mix might be...overkill.
And, yes, the four Galactic Rangers are references to other characters, some easier to guess than others.
But that's a problem for future me. Or for a poll to help me contemplate (as of this posting, a poll is on my profile pag). As always, leave a review, fav/follow, and I'll see you all next time.
