After saving the lord of the Tachibana clan and crossing blades with Kelly, the group travels to Osaka to meet with Lord Ieyasu. However, their progress was halted by the appearance of the Umi-Bozu, a Yo-kai morphed into a Special Grade curse by the Yo-kai Alliance. With the Grand Terry damaged, the group lands in the Chugoku region to continue their search for Yo-kai and see what help they can give to the local lords…
The group ascended the steps of a temple acting as a compound for the Mohri clan.
"So, these guys have a job for us?" Scarlet asked Hanzo.
"Indeed. Lord Kikkawa assured that, should we complete this task, his clan would give their support for Ieyasu." Hanzo stated.
William and some of the group took notice of a man walking down the steps as they saw a guardian lion spirit following him before it disappeared as the man raised his hat, showing his eyes and a smile before he lowered it down and nodded his head to them before continuing on. However, Sunset's attention was drawn to a small white spirit floating next to the man's head.
"Wait…Whisper?" Sunset said.
The small white spirit quickly turned around as he hid in a pile of cannonballs with his eyes poking out.
"Whisper…I know it's you." Sunset said as she poked his eye.
"Ah…geez. That really hurt." Whisper said.
"What are you doing here?" Sunset asked. "No one's seen you for months."
"Oh, ah…I've been quite busy, you know." Whisper said, refusing to meet her eyes.
"Busy looking up info, cause you literally know nothing about anything?" Sunset asked.
"Uh…" Whisper looked nervous.
"That is Ishida's top general, Shima Sakon." Sunset overheard Hanzo saying to William. "He is not someone I would want to have as an enemy."
"Wait, you're with Shima Sakon?" Sunset asked Whisper. "Then…that means you're working with Ishida."
"Ah, yes! That I am!" Whisper stated "I'm doing quite well in my new role, I assure you!"
"I'm sure you are." Sunset replied flatly. "Look, I'm trying to reform the Night Parade, and there's this group trying to corrupt Yo-kai running around in this world. I kinda need you back-"
"No!" Whisper suddenly stated, surprising Sunset. "I…I cannot leave Lord Ishida's service!"
"What? But…but why?" Sunset asked.
"I'm sorry. I can't say. There is something important that only I can do and prevent." Whisper said as he sank into the ground.
"We're going to talk about this later!" Sunset called out. "Geez, what is with him?" she said going back to the group.
The group were led inside the compound, where they were met with the lord of the Izumo Province, Kikkawa Hiroie.
"Welcome, Anjin and Taiyo." Kikkawa stated. "Unfortunately, the head of the Mohri clan could not be here, but I will issue their request in their place."
"So, what's the emergency?" Shirou asked.
"You see, the wealth of our clan comes from the vast silver we have extracted from the mines." Kikkawa stated. "Recently, however, a thick poison mist has spread throughout it, forcing the workers to flee…what few could. We have reason to believe this mist was the work of a yokai. Please, find and deal with this monster, clear the poison out, and the Mohri clan will be in our debt."
"You got it. One poison free silver mine, coming up!" Eddy promised.
May 1600, Iwami-Ginzan Silver Mine, Iwami Province
"Huh?" Sunset said as a group of Yo-kai stood at the entrance. These being Arachnus, Lie-in Heart, Enduriphant, a small centipede-like creature and a large black oni with multiple eyes.
Irewig
Slippery Tribe
Eyesoar
Classic Yo-kai
Shady Tribe
"Arachnus…what are you and the Bony Spirits doing here?" Hope asked. "Wait…is the Yo-kai inside…"
"Yes…it's Firewig…he's here." Arachnus said. "Our fellow comrade is inside that mine and in great pain."
"Dang nabbit…makes me so mad that my friend is like that." Irewig said.
"So Firewig's corrupted form is causing the poison mist in the mines." Mark said. "Well, is there any way we can get to him?"
"You see that machine over there." Eyesoar said, gesturing to a machine that was blowing air into the doorway. "They control the air circulation in the mines. There's a few of them throughout this place. We activate those, we can get rid of the gas. Unfortunately, until you activate the first one, there's no place to walk without inhaling the poison."
"Okay…this is definitely gonna be difficult. Well not really…least for some of us." Ruby said, looking at some of the robotic members of the group.
"Well…looks like it's on us." Keebo said.
"Yes. Don't worry. Leave this to us." Fulgore said.
The robotic members moved into the mine, fighting any corrupted Yo-kai in the way, until they reached the first air circulation machine. They switched it on as the poison started to blow out of the path as the group began their descent.
They traversed through the dark and poison filled mines before reaching the main chamber of the mines. As they dropped onto the floor, the cavern shook with a rumble, before they saw what they could only describe as rocks with insect legs scuttling about. As they approached, the rocks seemed to group up, linking with one another, until they formed a giant centipede-like monster, who roared at the group as poison mist shot out of its mouth.
Hundred-Legs - Great Centipede
Weaknesses: Wind
Resistances: Earth, Poison, Paralysis
(Cue: Mononofu II - Nioh)
"It's poisonous all right." Sunset said as they dodged a stream of poison.
"I don't suppose you have a weapon that can help with that?" Emo asked.
"Yeah…" Sunset said as she drew a spear.
"The Mysterious Tribe. As their name suggests, not much can be made of these Yo-kai who wield unworldly power such as telepathy or manipulating electricity. With this spear, you can make use of these powers with just a single thrust."
"Let's do it, Tengu!" Sunset said, inserting Tengu's medal in the slot on the spear. She gave it a thrust as a gust of wind blew away the poison and pushed the centipede back.
The Great Centipede fought back with its pincers and its breath, in poisonous form, paralyzing form, or by simply spitting out rocks at its attackers.
Sunset however was fighting back as she was blowing away its poison and paralysis breath before taking several jabs at it before a web stuck the Yo-kai in place as Arachnus stood tall with the rest of the Bony Spirits Yo-kai.
They jumped down, in a joint unison strike as they repeatedly attacked the centipede until it fell.
(End song)
Sunset approached as she shined the light, purifying the Yo-kai into a large red centipede.
Firewig
Slippery Tribe
"Firewig! You're back to normal!" Eyesoar said.
"GGGRRRAAAHHH!" Firewig roared, causing some of the group to jump. "Where is he?! Where is that tattooed, bald-headed son of a bitch?! I'll burn him so much, his ashes will be on fire for the next 50 years!"
"Wow.. he kind of reminds me of you when you used to get angry." Francisca said to Flamberge.
"Hey! I wasn't as bad as this guy!" Flamberge said.
"No. He's always angry. He makes anyone he inspirits go into a rampage." Sunset said.
"And I'd do it to that guy! I'll stomp his skull and burn his brains and his already burning ashes till nothing remains! I'm also angry that you guys had to come and save me cause of him! Thank you!" Firewig said.
"Uh… you're welcome?" Adora said.
"Don't worry. He means it. Anger is his primary emotion. But that does not mean other emotions mix in with them." Lie-in Heart explained.
"Well, now that we've cleared the mine, we should head back to the Mohri compound." Bardock said. "We still have a clan to recruit for Ieyasu."
The group returned to the compound, meeting with Kikkawa once more.
"Well done, Anjin and Taiyo." Kikkawa congratulated. "Mōri Motonari sends his gratitude for your help, and assures that Lord Ieyasu has the support of our clan."
"(Huh, in our history, this clan was part of the Western Army…yet another example of changes between worlds, I suppose.)" David thought to himself.
"Hooray! We have victory!" Ed cheered.
"I must say, your victory here was no small feat. I admit, I envy your prowess." Kikkawa admitted, as William saw a red colored rat leap out of Kikkawa and into him…
The brave warrior Kikkawa Motoharu, and the strategist Kobayakawa Takakage, together known as the Nioh, grew the Mohri clan into the largest and most powerful in the Western provinces. Now that both have passed, it is clear I am not at the level of the Nioh. Who will safeguard the Mohri clan through the scorching flames of war? Ishida or Tokugawa…? All I can do is wait and see whom I should ally with after the smoke clears.
As the vision ended William turned to see the spirit, Hi-nezumi, standing on the shoulder of Saber, before fading.
"So, it seems this spirit has chosen me." Saber remarked. "I shall endeavor to prove myself worthy of them."
"Thanks for your support, Lord Hiroie." Hanzo bowed.
"Our clan head will inform Ieysau of his support. In the meantime, I've heard that Lord Hideaki of the Kobayakawa clan has need of your aid. Do be careful; he is known to be a schemer." Kikkawa warned the group.
As the group headed out of the compound, they saw Trevor waiting by the door, smoking a cigarette before he turned to them.
"Hey Sunny, glad I caught you." Trevor said, putting his smoke away. "Heard you rescued another Yo-kai."
"Yeah. Firewig." Sunset said.
"Good. Listen, Zazel said I should come with you guys on this next one, cause…well, we're throwing you to the deep end." Trevor said.
"You mean…?"
"Yeah…we're facing the Special Grade from before: Umi-Bozu." Trevor answered.
The group has managed to gain the support of the Mohri clan, effectively changing the history of this world. But now, they face their greatest challenge yet: defeating the first Special Grade corrupted Yo-kai. Will the succeed…or be washed away by the power of Umi-Bozu?
