Chapter 44 Round One

It was morning at a stadium with a cheering crowd. It was filled by many people from all the kingdoms to see the tournament. The arena was half ice and volanic earth with two teams there.

Ruby fires and swings her Crescent Rose at a enemy as Blake Belladonna exchanges blows with Reese Chloris, the blades of her Gambol Shroud colliding with the hoverboard of her opponent until she flips away. Behind her, Weiss Schnee waves her Myrtenaster to use her powers, and finally Yang Xiao Long dodges the explosive force of Arslan Altan's fist before returning fire with her own Ember Celica.

Watching them from the sides was Haru as he watches them.

"You can do it girls." He said.

Above them at the sportscaster's desk was Port and Oobleck.

"Hello! It seems that we have another astonishing bout ahead of us! Wouldn't you agree, Professor?" Port said.

Oobleck was annoyed. "Doctor. And yes Peter, I think it's safe to say this match may be the closest we've seen of the four-on-four round of the tournament!"

"For those of you just now joining us, welcome to the Vytal Festival Tournament, broadcast live from the Amity Colosseum!" Port said.

Haru looks around since this is a massive event and he was excited.

"If this is your first time watching, allow us to break down the rules."

"The tournament is divided into three distinctive rounds; teams, doubles, and singles. Age and school year are irrelevant! In this tournament, your only attribute being tested... is skill." Oobleck said.

"Correct! The winners of this battle will elect two of their members to represent them in the doubles round, followed by the winners of that round choosing one member to advance once again. The remaining combatants will then fight their way through the final bracket in the hope of achieving victory for their kingdom!" Port said.

"Looks like i'll have to wait." Haru said.

He can still participate, but he'll have to wait, as this battle is just for teams of four, they didn't want to give a unfair advantage so he can join in the later rounds.

"And yes, Peter, these certainly are some spectacular spectacles on which to spectate on! I don't think anyone tuning in around the world is going to disagree with me on that!" Oobleck said.

"Ahh, and why would they? Now, let's get back to the match between Team RWBY of Beacon, and Team ABRN, of Haven." Port said.

Reese steers her board through the ice. She twirls herself until the board gets launched at Blake, but she's able to knock it away, only for Reese to direct it back at her opponent. Blake blocks it again, but the board rotates back to its wielder just in time to defend Reese as Blake delivers several slashes and kicks.

Reese deflects each attack and spins her weapon around until she can flip away and ride it again, rushing towards a smirking Blake.

Haru sees Reese crash against a frozen shadow clone. "Yeah!"

Blake uses his opportunity to slice the board in two but they became two revolvers. Reese manages to fire off a few green rounds before her tailbone collides painfully on the cold ground.

"Oooh, that's gotta hurt." Haru winces.

Yang lands mere feet away from Arslan, who backs away before being pounded by two quick punches. The pair dodge each others kicks then Arslan delivers her own hits, launching a series of hammer blows. Yang defended herself and fought back, they attacked making a shockwave from the clash.

Yang and Arslan are both thrown back, but Yang reaches her and tries delivering more blows before Arslan flips away then uses her rope dart to tangle up but Yang dodges her making Arslan surprised.

Yang smirks before she punches the girl and Haru cheers again. "Yeah! Keep going Yang!"

She smiles at him and kept on fighting. "Good thing his sparring trainings worked."

Nadir Shiko tries aiming with his assault rifle at Yang before a sudden burst of frosty blue explodes behind him trapping the guy in a block of ice.

Ruby was the one that made the shot. "Got your back!"

Bolin goes up behind her. "But who's got yours?"

He tries to attack but a black snowflake glyph appears to his left and Weiss kicks him through it into a rock.

"My BFF!" Ruby said.

"No." Weiss runs off.

"Weiss!" Haru yelled at her.

Bolin crouches down but he saw another glyph. Weiss dashes by and slashes at him, then leaps up and attempts an aerial attack, which he's able to block.

"Girls, do the thing!" Haru said.

"What thing?" Reese looks at her team.

Yang took a chance as she knocks many of them back because of Haru's words.

"It's not good to keep your eyes off of the opponent. "Port said.

Blake runs around as Weiss uses her glyphs to freezes the clones, it causes a ring of ice to surround them and they got surprised, then the two sisters went up and Yang swings Ruby forward, she spins her scythe as the combined speed and power knocks all four out of bounds.

"A brilliant tactical team move! It seems they're teammate Haru trained them well." Oobleck said.

"And that's the match! Team RWBY is victorious!" Port said.

Ruby cheers as the girls were happy, Haru gave them a thumbs up. 'Good thing I told them to train with me in private.'

Later the group were outside near the stands.

"Is anyone else hungry?" Rwby was starving.

"I may have worked up an appetite." Blake's stomach growls surprising them.

"I'll say." Haru said.

"Gee, if only there was somewhere on campus to get food around here." Weiss said and they look at the tents. "Oh wait."

"It's okay, Weiss, I forget about the fairgrounds, too." Ruby said.

"She's being sarcastic." Haru said.

"Well I would say facetious, but that works." Weiss said and they moved forward.

Weiss got a call and stops to see the words father on her scroll. She glares at it and puts it away. Haru noticed it and he was worried about her.

"Hey! Might be hard to eat without this." They looked to see Emerald with Ruby's wallet.

Ruby got worried checking her outfit. "No, no, no, no!"

Emerald chuckles. "Good to see you, Ruby."

Ruby takes it back. "Oh! Thanks, Emerald! Oh. Guess I dropped it. Girl pockets are the worst!"

"What's up, Em?" Yang said.

"Just left the stadium after your amazing fight! You guys were awesome!" Emerald said.

Ruby blushes and got nervous being praised like that.

"I heard your team passed." Haru said.

"You know, I feel that we haven't seen your other teammates." Weiss said.

"How'd they do in the fight?" Yang said.

Emerald thinks about it. "Really well."

"That's great. Uh. Why don't we all go and get a victory food together?" Ruby said.

"Oh, gosh, that's so nice of you, but my teammates are all kind of..." Emerald looks back to see Mercury sniff a boot. "Introverted. Really socially awkward."

"I can see that." Haru said.

"Oh yeah, looks like Merc and I are going to move on to the doubles round. What about you guys?" Emerald said.

Ruby tries to speak but Haru said: "It's a surprise."

Emerald frowns. "Really? Is this a magic trick?"

"You could say that, so i'll be waiting Em." he winks making her blush.

The girls gasped seeing him do that and he noticed. "What?"

"Come here!" They dragged him away.

"Well see ya." Emerald waves before going off with Mercury.

"So, how are the new friends?" Mercury said.

"I hate them." She said.

"Orders are orders." He shrugs.

She frowns and thinks about the way Haru did that and she looks away.

"So did you get what we needed?" Mercury asked.

"The wizard played it off as some magicians secret." Emerald said.

Mercury chuckles. "Well that's dorky."

Team RWBY were at Simple Wok as they sat at the chairs.

"I'll have a bowl of the regular, please." Yang said.

She got a large bowl with noodles.

"Oohhh... I'll take the same." Ruby asked and she got the same.

"Do you have anything with a low-salt ...?" Weiss got the same. "Uh okay."

Blake gave a nod and the owner gave a large bowl of noodles topped with fish in front of her making Blake drool.

"I'll take a beef bowl." Haru said and the owner gave him it.

Weiss gave him her card.

"Aw, Weiss! What's the occasion!?" Yang said.

"Consider it thanks for sending me to the doubles round." Weiss said but they saw the Owner with the words decline on the machine. "What?! How can my card be declined? I was barely into my monthly allowance!"

"It's okay, I got enough." Haru pays for they're meal.

"Oh thank you Haru." Blake hugs him.

"How did you get all that money?" Yang asked.

"Odd jobs." He said.

"Hey guys." They saw Pyrrha and her group.

"Oh hey." Haru said.

"Mind if we join you." Jaune said and they nodded.

They finished they're food and moved forward with some looking sick but Haru was fine.

"Are you sure it's wise to have eaten before a fight?" Ren said.

"Of course, it will give us energy." Pyrrha said.

"Haru!" They saw the Yu and Ryo at they're Donut Shop Hungry.

"Oh your both here." Haru said.

"Oh so these are the donut sellers." Jaune said.

"Is one of them a woman or a man?" Ruby asked Yang.

"I don't know." She whispers back.

"Well I have enough for a donut." Haru said.

"How hungry are you?" Weiss said.

"Today's special is, Pumpkin love donut!" They showed them off with smiles.

"Plain sugar." Haru said making the two frown.

"Haru." Ruby said.

"I'll take one." Nora raises her hand.

"Your alright Jaune?" Haru asked him.

"Yes, i'm doing fine." Jaune said.

"If you want to get ready for the next fight have something sweet." Haru gets his tray before sitting at a table.

"He's right." Pyrrha nodded.

They each got a donut and ate them.

"These are pretty good." Weiss was surprised.

"Thank you." Yu smiles.

"So, you think you guys are ready?" Ruby asked Pyrrha about the next fight.

"Of course! We've got a world-renowned fighter on our team, one's basically ninja, I can bench five of me, Jaune, we trained all year, our weapons are awesome, Glynda barely yells at us anymore, and uh... Jaune!" Nora said.

"Are you going to take that?" Ren asked him.

"She's not wrong." Jaune eats a donut and enjoys it. "Hmmm."

I'm kidding, he knows I'm kidding. Don't be so nervous! The worst that can happen is we lose, that is just a few more years of walking around school with everyone knowing we're failures, our friends will slowly abandon us to preserve their social status, we won't be able to show our faces in class, no one will sit with us in the cafeteria, Ren and I have no parents, we have no home left to go to, we'll be officially renamed Team Lose-iper!" Nora looked crazy.

"Nora, calm down." Haru said.

"You guys have it easy since you have Haru." Jaune said.

"Well I wanted to participate to test my skills." Haru said.

"So, yeah, we're feeling pretty good." Ren said.

"Don't fret. If anything, we should be looking forward to a fight with actual guidelines, and not, well, ...murderers." Pyrrha said.

"Yeah, don't sweat it, we've all faced way worse before." Yang said.

"Yeah." Haru remembers they're attacks and the adventure he had against Dartz.

The teams enjoyed they're time before it was time for the next fight as JNPR went to face they're opponents, but Haru has a nasty feeling something might happen.

Note: Heres Round One and the girls handled it differently with Haru's guidance from before, while he might not be able to fight in that round, he could still give advice.
