"Ok, all done for today, Jamie. Only one more of these therapy sessions and you should be feeling much better."
Jamie nodded and then looked to Eddie. She was always with him through thick and thin. Right now, she was his medic in a way. Looking to the nurse, Jamie smiled at her.
"How's my blood work looking?"
The nurse gave Jamie a genuine smile.
"Your numbers are looking better. But one more treatment and the levels of mercury in your system should be eliminated and your heart is doing just fine. No sign of irregular heartbeat or cardiac arrhythmias. You are clear to go home. Let me just get your paperwork. I'll be right back."
Eddie got a word in as the nurse went out of the room.
"You're already looking so much better bub."
Jamie was just glad he had Eddie as his support beams.
"I can always count on you babe. I'm just ready to go home and spend some time with the family and get some time with our baby girl."
"Bub? Are you ok in there?"
Jamie heard Eddie's muffled voice behind the bathroom door. He rested his head against the toilet lid and tried to will his stomach to stop its heaving. But to no avail. His stomach betrayed him one last time as Eddie opened up the door.
"Oh bub. Are you ok?"
Red rimmed eyes stared back at her.
"Well, my head is over the toilet and I'm puking my guts out. So no, I'm not fine. Side effect of the chelation therapy. We knew that going into it. I haven't had any problems with side effects until today."
Eddie put a hand on Jamie's back and rubbed it. Grabbing for a washcloth from the cupboard under the sink, she placed it against his forehead and had him lean up against the bathtub.
"Just sit back and relax for a few minutes."
Jamie sighed and kept the washcloth over his forehead. His stomach was settling now, and he hoped it would stay that way. Keeping his eyes closed, he heard Eddie run the tap in the sink for a minute and then turn it off. He felt another warm and damp wash cloth run over the side of his neck. Jamie cracked his eyes open and looked Eddie in the eye.
"What are you doing Ed?"
Eddie gave him a sympathetic look and then kissed his sweaty forehead.
"Cooling you down. I know for a fact that when you throw up, you get all sweaty. Just trying to make you more comfortable bub. Just relax and close your eyes. I'm right here."
Jamie kept looking at Eddie and tried to move.
"I don't mind you taking care of me Ed, but could I at least get up and wash my hands first?"
Eddie closed her eyes and then opened them, helping Jamie over to the sink.
"I'm sorry. Now I'm being the overbearing one. I'm hovering too much. Sorry."
Jamie slowly shook his head and washed his hands, then turned off the tap.
"You're not being overbearing or hovering too much. Right now, you're my medic. Just like we said in our vows. I think I can stomach some of pop's chicken soup and some ginger ale."
Eddie eyed him.
"Just because we're still in your father's and grandfather's house, doesn't mean I can't cook for you bub. You did say you liked my chicken soup."
Jamie shifted his eyes back and forth.
"I do…"
Eddie stopped Jamie in his tracks.
"You do but…"
Jamie turned and faced Eddie, shaking his head.
"I like both of your soups. The two of you both make them with love. I know the ingredients you put in yours. I don't know what pop puts in his."
Eddie's expression softened as she led him towards the dining room. A few officers looked at Jamie as he walked past. One spoke up.
"Sir, did you need any help?"
Jamie shook his head no.
"I'm alright. I can make it to the dining room."
The officer nodded and resumed his post.
"Let me know if there is anything I can do for you sir."
Jamie gave a quiet nod and had a seat at the dining room table. Eddie was quick to get Jamie a glass of ginger ale and bring it back to the table.
"Here's your ginger ale bub. Take a few sips of that. Hopefully it'll keep your stomach happy."
Picking up the glass, Jamie took a sip or two and sighed. His stomach was feeling better, and now his stomach was growling.
"Ed, what's taking so long in there?"
Jamie listened to Eddie's muffled voice behind the swinging door to the kitchen.
"I'm cutting up the vegetables right now bub! It'll be a few minutes!"
Sitting in silence, Jamie sipped at his ginger ale. His silence was interrupted by the sound of a very fussy Megan in Frank's arms.
"Ok peanut. Do you want to go with your daddy?"
Megan fussed more and Erin suddenly showed up next to him.
"I'll take that little angel dad. Jamie needs time to rest. Did you just not hear him throwing up in the bathroom? Side effect of the Chelation therapy."
Frank frowned and nodded.
"I do know that. I looked it up. I saw you coming from the sunroom."
Erin took Megan from Frank's arms and rocked her.
"Come on Megan. I know you love spending time with Auntie Erin."
Megan had stopped crying and opened up her eyes. She stuck a fist in her mouth and began sucking in it. Erin continued her conversation with her.
"You are getting hungry."
Erin then whisked Megan out of the room, and it was just Jamie. Not long after that, Eddie came in with a bowl of steaming chicken soup.
"Here you go bub. Nice hot bowl of my chicken soup. Should help you feel better. Then you can have a nap."
Eddie planted herself next to Jamie and watched him eat, placing a kiss against his left temple.
"I'm your medic right now bub. That's what matters."
To Be Continued…
A/N: So what'd you guys think? I went and skipped ahead a few weeks for this chapter. Jamie and Eddie will be out of house arrest soon. I'm going to bring Bianca back into the story soon. She's going to cause Eddie and the family some trouble.
