"I've must admit I didn't think you'd last so long, you sure are stronger than the rest of them" Kara was laying on the floor with her arms around her knees, her clothes were worn and stained by sweat and dried blood and her empty, dull sight was lost in some corner of the room, she looked small and fragile and Lex loved to be the reason of her demeanor.
"But don't worry, I'm almost done with you, I already have what I need but I think I can have a little more fun with you" Lex smiled with malice while he moved towards Kara giving little jumps when the door was suddenly opened and he snarled at the interruption.
"Please tell me you found what we were looking for, we're running out of time" Lockwood said with severity, his body was tense and quivering due to the anticipation and adrenalin. His men had confirmed him about the imminent arrival of a tactical team that was heading their way, he just needed confirmation that they had what was necessary to end the species that brought him and his family so much pain.
"Of course I did, I've had the answer for days, but I like to play with our little pet" Lex answered facing him and then walked towards the table at the side of the room in search of his laptop "it's amazing how something so small can contain such a big secret" Lex remarked while running his index finger through the side of the screen. "You know Benjamin, I've been thinking and to be honest, I'm not completely sure about wanting to share this information with you anymore" he ended with a defiant stare.
The tall man laughed, a strong, almost maniac laugh that unsettled Lex to the bones. "Mercy warned me about your tendencies to betrayal, my God, even her stupid brother did, since then I've been waiting and betting about how long it would take for you to try and stabbed me in the back, if I'm being honest, I thought it would be earlier" Lockwood smiled.
"Well, I guess you can't blame me, it has nothing to do with you per se, but I prefer working alone" Lex replied while he turned around towards his laptop ready to press the key that would hit Kara with a new electrical shock.
"Luthor" Benjamin quietly called him, as soon as Lex turned his head around to face him, a loud noise echoed inside the room making Kara jumped in fear.
"I always said you spoke too much" Lockwood kicked the motionless body that was laying on the floor, when Lex tried to raise his arm, another loud sound was heard and this time, the bullet went straight through his head. When Lockwood raised his head, Kara was crouched at the far corner, her body was trembling so hard that the chains and shackles surrounding her hands and feet made an almost rhythmical sound. He slowly came closer to her with a syringe in his hand and injected her once again with a new dose of adrenaline.
"Don't worry little one, I still have planes for you" Lockwood, who was kneeling beside her stood up, took Lex's laptop and walked towards the door, a loud explosion was heard outside the building as he was about to exit the room. "Okey, in a few minutes I'm going to let you free, I just need to get somewhere safe so I can enjoy the show properly" the only sound after that was his sick laugh followed by strong growled.
The place seemed to be an abandon factory with no one at sight, but the person who gave the information had confirmed that there would be guards around the entry securing the place. Alex along with Brainy where the ones in charge of leading the team, while Winn and Lena would be assisting them remotely from their Van, the brunette had insisted on going with them but the field work was dangerous and after a couple of hours they were able to convince her to stay in the vehicle with the promise of informing and escort her once the found Kara.
The team was formed by the DEO's elite group and the Stonehaven pack, even Barry and Oliver had decided to join them, Kara would become their Alpha after all and their duty as members of the pack was to protect her. While their team neutralized the guards quietly, Alex, Brainy and Barry broke into the building and slowly moved towards the room where they were told Kara was being held, once they were there, all the color was drained from Alex face upon seeing the dried blood on the floor and walls, the shackles at the corner and Lex's limp cold body lying on the floor, her stomach flipped and the impulse of emptying its content was almost unbearable.
"Kara isn't here but she's not far, I can smell her scent" Brainy interrupted while he checked that the body lying on the floor had no pulse. "Let's keep looking, and be careful, Kara's scent is impregnated with pure fear and confusion"
Alex and Barry nodded, when they were about to leave the room, two gunshots went off a few feet away from them and then a loud howl was heard right after, Alex intercom came back on with Winn's voice on the other side "That howl, that was…" "Kara" Lena's voice broke through "I have to go, that was Kara, I can feel her pain" the brunette said with urgency and before Winn could stop her, Lena was already outside running towards the building, her legs burned as she pushed herself to her limit to get fast to were her mate was.
"Dammit Lena, I know your listening, don't do something stupid, we still don't know what else is waiting for us there" using Brainy's and Barry's sense of smell they were able to track Kara's footsteps and soon they were able to find the room where the blonde was, at the same time, on the other side of said room, Lena was entering through a set of double doors. The first thing she saw was the giant white wolf that she longed to see for the past month, Kara was only a few feet away, her once immaculate white fur was dyed with a deep red in a few places and in contrast with her usually imposing figure, her stance was weak, fragile, Lena could see an important loss of muscle mass and when she was able to feel their connection once more, her heart broke, the fear inside her lead to a sense of paranoia almost paralyzing her, but even if all her body was telling her to stop moving, she pushed through towards Kara. With each step, Kara would snarl in warning, the menacing sound made her stop for a while but eventually she tried to advance once again.
"Darling, it's okey, it's me, I'm not going to hurt you, everything is over" her voice was soft and soothing as she got closer, but her heart ached each time her mate rejected her with a growl. In the meanwhile, Alex carefully observed every move while she aimed her tranquilizer gun towards her sister in case things got out of control, she had never seen Kara behave like that before, she was really being controlled by her wildest instincts.
When Lena was just a step away from Kara, they heard another shot echoing through the warehouse, a man was holding a gun a few feet away from them and memories of Kara bleeding out in her office assaulted her, with the images of such scenario still fresh, she willed herself to turn her gaze towards her mate's body to make sure that Kara was safe, but when she finally looked up, her gaze was met with the darkest eyes she had ever seen. Before she could even react, Kara was tackling her and the first thing she felt was her skin being torn by sharp fangs, out of pure instinct she had placed her arm in front of her in an attempt to protect her neck, the limb receiving all the damage instead, when she felt the fangs going even deeper a drowned gasped left her lips and her eyes once again met Kara's, a few seconds later the blue she loved so much was sweeping away the darkness and Lena immediately knew that her mate was coming back to her, soon after, Kara's body was contorting unnaturally and her fur was coming off until she regained her human form.
"God Lena, what did I do?!" Kara crawled to her side as small spasms began to run through her body, the blonde could still taste Lena's blood in her mouth and her wolf was crying inside her. "Alex!" The piercing scream brought her sister out of her stupor. "Lena, I'm sorry, I'm sorry" Kara repeated the phrase like a mantra with her eyes filled with tears. The brunette brought her right hand up to cup Kara's face, her gaze was full of empathy as always. "It wasn't your fault, don't worry, everything is going to be okay." Lena's body began to shake more abruptly, and despite knowing what happened when a woman was bitten, she couldn't help but to believe in her own words, she wasn't sure if what she was saying was purely to convince herself or Kara but, for whatever reason, she was grateful for the peacefulness that surrounded her.
"And cut…this turned out better than I expected" The voice of the head of The Order resonated like an echo through the place.
"Professor Lockwood?" Barry asked in disbelief while the man kept laughing like a maniac.
"Why?" Kara's voice was almost a whisper, but the emptiness of the place carried the voice clearly.
"WHY? Because I hate your kind, because thanks to someone like you I lost my wife and my children" the phrase was spat out with hatred and disdain, "because one of your kind decided to bite me and leave me alive while he massacred my family."
"Not all of us are like that" Kara screamed desperately as she held Lena's trembling body in her arms, her mate's breathing became more labored and she knew that from that moment on there would be no return. "You are one of us, we can guide you, protect you"
Only a maniacal laughter was heard as a response, each faction of his face showed that he wasn't in full control of his faculties, he was purely being driven by hatred and pain and even if it was his fault that they found themselves in the situation they were in, deep down, Kara couldn't help but feel empathy towards him, even though her wolf wanted nothing more than to rip his head off.
"Starting tomorrow, at this same hour, I will no longer be one of you, I will no longer be a beast, and soon, your entire race will be extinct as it always should…" before he could continue, a growl echoed inside the massive room and a few seconds later, the professor's body fell to the floor with a thud. Oliver had entered the room carefully and shoot him down once he confirmed the identity of the man who was now lying on the floor.
A piercing cry interrupted the scene as Lena's body began to contort violently, reality hit Kara so hard that she was having trouble breathing, her chest felt tight because of the pain and the anticipation of what she knew without a doubt was about to happen, the inevitability of it was unbearable.
"Lena listen, I know what you are feeling is excruciating, but please babe, you have to fight, I can't lose you, not like this." Her mate's eyes were closed tightly as beads of sweat soaked her temple and her skin became paler than normal. Even with her arms around the fragile body, the tremors were so violent that it was almost impossible for Kara to contain the movement as Lena's breathing became increasingly labored and shallow.
"Brainy!" she screamed desperately, her voice sounded raspy and broken, her friend was quickly at her side but stopped when he saw Lena's state "please, there has to be something we can do... please, I can't lose her, not like this, please…please" deep down she knew that her prayers would be of no use, she knew that there was no cure for her bite, but the non-rational part of her couldn't accept such an outcome, fate was playing with them and it was too cruel. Lena didn't deserve to end up like that, she couldn't be the one to blame for her mate's death, it should have been her, not Lena.
"I'm sorry" was the only thing Brainy could say, and behind him she could see her sister and Winn trying and failing to keep the tears at bay.
"Darling It's okay, breathe" Lena held her hand on Kara's right cheek, the effort making her muscles protest even more, the pain really was unbearable and she felt sorry that her partner had gone through the same thing alone.
"I have no regrets Kara, if I was to meet you again at that exhibition and I had to go through this a thousand times more just to be by your side even for a moment I would do it a thousand times more" Lena said with difficulty, her breathing became more shallow as she felt her heart beating slower and slower, Kara could feel how Lena's life was sliding from her hands like a handful of sand, no matter how hard she tried to hold on, she could only witness the light on her eyes dimming away, the brunette gave her one last sweet smile and suddenly Kara felt the cold hit her cheek when she lost the contact of Lena's hand that had stubbornly stayed in that place for the last couple of minutes.
"Lena?" Kara's voice was barely a whisper, muffled by the pressure in her throat as she noticed that her mate's body had stopped shaking, a sense of emptiness consumed her completely when she stopped feeling the connection between them. In that moment Kara felt true loneliness for the first time, nothing could have prepared her for what she felt when she saw her soulmate's body lying lifeless on the cold floor, just an empty vessel, a mockery of what used to be, of what could have been. She heard someone approaching and she growled in warning as she took Lena's body in her arms and brought it closer to her in the hope of giving her warmth, her mind was clouded recapping scene after scene of every moment lived with her, of every smile , caress and conversation they had had and she realized she never had the opportunity to photograph her, Lena was supposed to be by her side, together they were going to achieve something extraordinary, but fate seemed determined to always take away what she loved most. While the darkness consumed her soul, the silence in the room was assaulted by a maniac laugh.
"It's a bit poetic, don't you think? I lose my family because of someone of your kind and in return you lose yours because of an outburst? I couldn't have planned it better." Lockwood was still on the ground, incapacitated by the shot he had received earlier.
Those words were the last thing Kara heard before she completely lost it, she no longer had the strength to resist whatever wanted to take control at that moment, the pain and hatred consumed her and crawled inside her soul, suddenly her body began to contort again and seconds later she found herself on top of Lockwood, her fangs were persistently buried in her neck, tearing the skin there, and when the man let out a painful scream Kara felt an immense pleasure, she didn't stop until the tendons on his necks were completely cut and his head was ripped from his body, the sensation numbed her pain so she continued tearing each limb, the taste of his blood in her mouth giving her a rush that she had never felt before, in that moment her pain was shut down completely, the body underneath her was unrecognizable and she couldn't wait to feel that sensation again, then, she slowly returned to her human form admiring the scene before her eyes.
"Kara?" When she got no response, Alex placed her hand on her sister's shoulder but removed it when she heard a threatening growl, "Hey, it's okay, it's me" she insisted, but when the blonde finally turned around to face her, she immediately knew that something wrong, her eyes were still pitch black and blue as if she was about to turn, her gaze was cold, distant and she had a sick smile on her face, the scene before her caused a shiver to run down her spine. Pushing through her fears, she extended her hand to take her sister's in hopes of bringing her back "let's go, we have to take care of your wounds" she hid Lena's body that was still on the floor with her own, she knew that Kara was probably disassociating and she had to be treated with great care to avoid any permanent damage.
"Wounds? Alex, I feel great, I feel stronger than ever, do you really think I need a simple human like you to assist me?" Kara approached her menacingly forcing her to back down, when Alex moved, her gaze found Lena's fragile and pale body and Alex positioned herself in the middle once again to block the view.
"Kara, I… I'm so sorry" the pain was evident in Alex's voice, over time she and Lena had become close and she knew what she meant to her sister.
"What are you sorry about? That?" Kara pointed her index finger towards her mate's body, "don't worry about that, really, she was the only thing that prevented me from becoming what I was always meant to be, she was my only weakness, the only thing that stood in the way of reaching my destiny."
It was then that everyone in the room realized that the person speaking was no longer the Kara that they all knew. "Alex, stay away from her" Brainy warned, moving slowly towards her.
"Yes Alex, why don't you listen to your friend?" Kara added as she moved towards Lockwood's body. "I don't think you need this anymore". She slowly began to undress the man, putting on his pants and bloody torn shirt. "That's better. Now, if you don't mind, I have too many things to do to keep wasting my time here" Kara added and then headed towards the door, Alex tried to stop her but both Brainy and Winn blocked her way.
"Alex, let her go." Winn held her by her arm, preventing her from going forward.
"I can't let her go like this…" Brainy was the one who stood between her and the exit when Alex kept trying.
"It's dangerous Alex, her smell... it's not the same, we have to take care of Lena and then we'll consider what to do with Kara" Alex agreed after noticing the pleading in their eyes, when she turned around she was met with the image of Lena's body once again and her heart dropped, in just a few hours the lives of two of the most important women in her life had been ruined, and no one was able to do anything to prevent it, but she had promised Lena at some point that she would find Kara and protect her no matter the cost and that was a promise she wasn't about to break, especially not when she knew her sister needed her the most.
Two months had passed since they last saw Kara, at least the version of her they knew, since then, someone else had taken her place, someone they didn't recognize. In less than a month The Order had been dismantled, the DEO had found a trail of mutilated bodies in various parts of the country, they knew Kara was the one responsible along with her new pack, newborns that had been turned by her and who followed her orders as their Alpha. The DEO had been close to catch them on multiple occasions but Kara was smart, she was always two steps ahead of them, and when they crossed way with someone from her pack it was impossible to catch them, they were stronger and faster than the average werewolf, the only one capable of facing them was Cameron, but he was alone against several that Kara had turned.
Every time Winn showed them a recording of Kara or her group attacking a safe house for The Order, Alex's stomach twisted, her sister had become ruthless, cold, and the images were simply macabre, yet they continued tracking her down, they knew that the possibilities of bringing her back were low but even so, none of them was giving up on her.
"Are you sure that's the next place they'll attack?" The group was at Stonehaven, after Kara went away, the castle was turned into their headquarters, the place was surrounded by guards from the three packs and luckily for them, the blonde didn't seem interested in attacking the place. For a couple of weeks, they received news through Cameron who was infiltrated in Kara's pack, he was able to convince her about him wanting to follow in the footsteps of his creator. To prove it, he was forced to carry out every order that was asked of him, including taking the life of certain hunters who had emerged after The Order was dismantled.
"Cam sent us the coordinates, considering how careful Kara is, it might be off, but we have to try, it's the closest we've been to having some kind of encounter with her" Barry stated as they looked at the marked red point on the screen.
"Well, we have to be careful, their pack grows by the minute and we know how strong and fast they can be, and if you see Kara... don't be fooled, don't hesitate even for a second" Alex finished.
A couple of weeks before during a stake out outside of Kara's apartment, Alex had crossed paths with her, against her best judgement, she got out of the Van and went after her but what she found was only a shadow of what her sister used to be, her mind had been completely consumed by this new personality. "I suggest you to get out of my way if you don't want to end up just like the rest of The Order" the cold words and the threatening look had cut deep, one thing she had learned during her training was to know when a person was lying, but she found no hint of doubt in her sister's gaze, so with a heavy heart she got out of her way knowing the disadvantage in that situation, but if the information provided by Cameron was correct, they would meet again.
"Three men in the front, other than that I can't see any movement" Winn was as usual inside the van observing the perimeter and guiding the team that would enter the building where they would supposedly find Kara.
"Okay, we're going get inside through the side, we don't want to attract too much attention" Brainy responded from the other side of the com. Only four would enter the place, the building was situated in a residential area so they had to be careful, the rest would stay near the perimeter in case they needed reinforcements. Once inside the building, Alex began to lead them, they checked each room on the first floor but everything was clear, the place was quite deserted for a building located almost in the center of the city. They continued exploring the rest of the floors without much success, apparently once again the clue they got was just a distraction, another play by Kara. As they were heading towards the exit, Brainy's phone rang with a particular tone that he had personalized just for one person.
"Hi Nia" Alex gave him a knowing look. "I'm a little busy right now, but is there anything I can help you with?"
"Oh, I'm sorry, I should have texted you before calling, I just had something important to tell you" Brainy could hear noises in the background.
"Are you okey? You sound a little out of breath" the brunette's breathing was fast and when a howl was heard in the background his heart almost stopped "Nia where are you exactly?" he asked praying for her to be in a public space.
"I'm at the park, I just felt like running to stop my head from spiraling about some issues, why? What's wrong?"
Brainy greeted his teeth and cursed, he knew Kara used to run in that same park and he could swear that the howl came from a werewolf, more specifically hers.
"Nia, listen to me, you need to get out of there, go to some place where there's people around you, a public space" Alex could sense the urgency on his voice and the group followed him as soon as he started moving towards their Van. "We have to go to the National park, now!" Winn immediately was in the move while Brainy kept Nia at the phone.
"What's happening Brainy?" Nia asked while a noise coming from her side startled her.
"I can't tell you right now but you're in danger, please, please run, we are a few blocks away, I promise I'll explain everything later, but please get out of there" before he could finish Nia was already in the move, but she could still feel noises behind her and she was sure something was chasing her.
"Brainy, something is here, I…" the line went silent and a cold shiver run though his spine.
"Winn faster!" Alex yelled, they had been misled and Kara was about to make the worst mistake yet, if they could bring her back, she would never forgive herself for harming Nia, there was no turning back if they allow that to happened.
A few minutes later the three of them were running through the park, Brainy leading the way as he was tracking Nia's scent, when they finally set eyes on her, everything seemed to happen in slow-motion. Nia was running towards them and the giant white wolf that they knew so well was chasing her, she was so close that even if they changed into their werewolves, they wouldn't have time to stop what was about to happened.
A desperate scream ripped through Brainy and Alex throat as Kara jumped to attack her best friend, but just when she was about to make contact everything seemed to move fast again, the three of them heard a loud sound, and all they could see was how the white werewolf was thrown out with force against one of the trees, it happened so fast that it was almost impossible to see what had push Kara away if it wasn't because the creature was then standing in front of Nia protecting her, the werewolf fur was completely black, a complete contrast with Kara's while their size was similar.
The white werewolf shook her head and was able to stand once again even after the strong blow and a second later she was charging against the creature that had ruined her fun, the black wolf didn't falter and stayed there waiting for the attack only to strike back once Kara was close enough. Their speed and force were practically the same, as the black wolf run towards the tree line to get Kara away from the others, the white wolf was at its side so fast that it was impossible to dodge the attack, both wolves came crashing down to the wet floor and Kara kept the attack coming, her blue eyes were cold, a shadow of what they used to be, her fangs were sharp and unforgivable as they ripped the flesh of her opponent and vice versa, this was the first time a wolf was at her same level, and the notion excited her. They kept fighting for a long time, charging against one another so strongly that the thud echoed throughout the park, but Kara was relentless and once she found leverage she was able to throw her opponent away, she could feel the tiredness on him, she could smell his weak pheromones and she knew he was about to change back to his human form, all she had to do was make a last strike, so before the black werewolf was able to stand she position herself over him, her breathing was labored and her lungs felt like they were burning but she was focused, she would make this wolf submit to her, she bite the side of his neck and to her surprise, the taste of his blood was too familiar. When the creature below her started shaking and the fur began to rip leaving a white porcelain like skin at the surface, Kara's eyesight was locked with the most intense green eyes she had seen and a few seconds later, before her was a woman so stunning than even Aphrodite would be jealous of her beauty. The woman beneath her raised her hand to touch the side of her face and as soon as Kara felt the softness of her skin, something inside her stirred, hew own wolf drew back and she was left on her human form, completely exposed and at the woman's mercy.
"Come back to me" the brunette whispered with a silky voice and the words echoed in her head, Kara felt a sharp pain deep inside and for the first time in what felt like years she was able to breath but something inside her tried to drag her down again. She grabbed her head with both hands, applying pressure to both sides as to quell the voices fighting for control, she opened her eyes and tried to focus on the sight beneath her, she knew her "remember that name".
"Kara I'm here, please, please come back" her voice hit her again and now the memory was clear in her head "Lena, remember that name".
"Lena" she repeated in a soft tone, and the name brought an immediate comfort, "Lena" she tried once again and the woman beneath her smiled, she kept repeating the name and every time she did, a new memory was unlocked, the last one brought tears to her eyes and her heart felt like it was being ripped from her chest. "I bite you, I killed you" by the time, Kara was wrapping her arms around the woman, their bodies fully pressed together. The smell was the same, if a little sweater than she remembered but the woman in her arms was definitely Lena, her scent was unique.
"You didn't darling" Lena hugged her tight, so tight that it was almost difficult for Kara to breathe, but she couldn't care less, her mate was there, alive and stronger than ever.
"How? I… I don't understand" Kara felt lightheaded, her mind and memories were a mess, so many things had happened but the only thing keeping her grounded was Lena's breathing.
"Apparently you're not the only one with weird genes" the brunette answered while their eyes locked once again "Welcome back darling" she gave her a chaste kiss on the lips and Kara wasn't sure if she'd be able to even uttered a word after that "you better don't do this again because if you do I'll kick your ass back to me, that's a promise" they finally stood up and Alex was already at their sides covering their bodies with a blanket and almost crushing her in a tight hug, she also saw Nia at the side looking dumbfounded with Brainy and Winn trying to explain the not so normal scene before her.
"I bet you could" Kara smiled.
"We should get going, we have a lot to talk about" Alex added and guided them towards the van while Kara and Lena followed her hand in hand.
Kara pinched the bridge of her nose while Brainy finished his debrief, three hours went by since she woke up from her nightmare in the park only to be followed by something worst… paperwork and bureaucracy. When she turned her head to the side, Lena was looking at her and she could feel how worried the brunette was about her, that was when the notion hit her fully, she was able to feel their connection again, that invisible string that grounded her, that gave meaning to what she was and who she was, the feeling was so completely overwhelming that Kara couldn't hold the tears streaming down her face.
"I think we are done for the day, we can finish this tomorrow" Lena stood up from her place, when Alex was about to stop her, the brunette gave her a menacing look, her eyes glowed with determination and when the CEO moved her body slightly to the side, Alex finally understood her behavior and nodded.
"She's right, the rest of us will continue with the debriefing but Kara and Lena should get some rest, I'll contact you if something comes up"
By then Lena was already at Kara's side guiding her towards the door. "Please take care of her, if you need something just call me" Alex whispered and Lena nodded as they left the room.
Kara was quiet for most of their way to Lena's penthouse and Lena was okay with that. She wanted to give Kara time to process everything, she always thought of herself as a patient woman and Kara would open up to her when she was ready. When they finally arrived at the building, they headed to their floor and when they entered the apartment, Kara stayed by the door taking all in as if it was the first time she was there.
"I'm going to prepare a shower for you, okay? You can stay here while I look for something comfortable for you to wear after" when Lena tried to move, Kara reached for her hand, stopping her movement.
"I'm… I'm so sorry" Lena could sense all the pent up anguish in her, and the only thing in her mind was doing everything in her power to dissipate that fog that was around her partner. Lena knew that everything was eventually going to be okay, but the situations Kara went through in the past few months would leave some kind of scar, but she hoped that over time all that was left was just that, a scar.
"I forgive you" was the first thing that came out of her mouth and immediately after Kara's eyes were brimmed with tears while she still clung to her hand "even knowing that you had no control over what was happening, I forgive you" the hug they shared afterwards was one of the most intense and significant yet, Kara tried to absorb her scent, while Lena finally felt that familiar warmth that wrapped her and made her feel overly protected.
The scream in the middle of the night woke Lena up, immediately putting her on high alert. The room was pitched black, she touched the right side of her bed but Kara wasn't there and when she finally was able to turned on one of the side lamps of the room, she found Kara's figure in one of the corners, she was sitting on the floor with her arms around her knees and she was whispering something, Lena slowly approached her and once she was close enough she was able to distinguish what her mate was saying.
"You're not going to hurt her, you're not going to hurt her, you're not going to hurt her…" Kara rocked herself from one side to the other unable to open her eyes in fear of confirming what she had seen in her nightmare, she could taste Lena's blood in her mouth again, she could even feel the coldness of her skin in her touch. While she was still trying to calm down, Kara felt the touch of something soft and warm against her cheek and her body immediately relaxed, little by little she opened her eyes to meet that color that she loved so much.
"I'm here darling, I'm okay, see?" Lena was kneeling beside her, showing her hands and neck to prove that nothing she had seen in her nightmare was true. She was there for a while, reaffirming her words until Kara was finally convinced.
Lena stood up first and extended her hand. "Let's go back to bed?" Kara took her hand nodding.
On that occasion, Kara was the one who rested her head on Lena's chest listening to her heartbeats, she had to feel that connection that made her feel complete, that would erase all the doubts and really convinced her that everything around her was real, not just a sad hallucination. With that in mind, her lips began to slowly run over Lena's neck, she inhaled deeply to get lost in her essence again. She kept kissing her way up her neck until she finally detached her lips from Lena's alabaster skin and was met by her deep gaze.
"Are you sure? We don't need to do anything, not yet…" Lena was always so cautious, so gentle with her that Kara couldn't help but fall more and more in love with her, even if it seemed impossible.
"I'm sure, I need to… feel you" that was all Kara had to say before Lena turned around and set herself on top of Kara, their eyes meeting once again.
"Okay, but let me take care of you, for now I just need you to relax" Kara could only nod, she had always been the one to initiate their activities, especially with previous partners, always too afraid of being too vulnerable, but Lena was different, with her, she would willingly give herself completely.

It's okay, I'm like you now, you won't hurt me, just let yourself go" as soon as Lena's words sunk in, her eyes cleared and Kara relaxed, she slowly lowered her gaze towards the mark and let herself be carried away by their bond and Lena's feelings, she checked on the wound and began to gently clean the blood that was left with her tongue and left soft kisses until she felt that the pain had subdued.
"May I do it too?" The brunette asked as she looked at Kara with pure love and devotion and reached out to her to kiss her slowly.
"You may" Without further ado, Kara left her neck exposed and Lena's bite began to apply more pressure. It was difficult to explain what Kara was feeling at that moment, the pain took a backseat and a sensation of fullness and pride flooded her chest, although their connection was always strong, this time it felt as if they were finally one and there were no secrets left between them, their inner wolves were satisfied and the mate's bond was finally complete.
"I love you Lena Luthor" Her voice was soft, barely above a whisper, their activities had left them exhausted.
"I love you Kara Danvers" right after, both of them succumbed to Morpheus' arms while they hugged each other tightly.
As expected, Lena had woken up first as soon as the first rays of light reflected through the window, Kara instead woke up when she heard something crashing against the floor, she got up and quickly ran towards the kitchen area where she was met by one of the most beautiful scenarios so far. Lena was bathed in flour that apparently came from a bowl that was still spinning incessantly on the floor.
"I swear to you that the bowl attacked me" Lena suddenly said with big eyes and the seriousness in which she said it made Kara burst out laughing, seeing the blonde almost crying with laughter made her smile and soon they were both cracking up.
"Too bad your surprise didn't go well" They were sitting in the breakfast table, eating some pancakes that Kara had made.
"What can I say, cooking is not my forte? But at least I'm pretty perfect in everything else" Kara loved Lena's sense of humor, she could say the most serious or nonsensical thing with the same poker face and it came so natural to her.
"Yes you are" Just as she was reaching over to kiss her girlfriend over the counter, Kara's phone started ringing with a particular ringtone. "Time to get back to reality" she remarked with a sigh as Lena gave her a compassionate look.
"Hey Brainy, what's up?" Kara took one more pancake and shoved it into her mouth as she stood up to admire the view from her girlfriend's apartment.
"Do you want the bad news or the good news first?" Kara could hear a woman's voice in the background. "So the full moon thing is a lie? Can you transform whenever you want? And what about the tail? It disappears when you go back to your human form, or are you like a Saiyan? Oh God, you would look very cute with a tail" the blonde couldn't help but to laugh.
"So, I assumed Nia already knows everything?"
"I had to tell her, considering she is my mate and she was going to find out sooner or later"
"Good luck with her, she's very curious, she probably won't shut up during the first 48 hours" she heard a sigh coming from the other side "Now back to our thing, the good one first please" while she was listening to what Brainy had to say, Lena was heading towards their bedroom and Kara almost choked when she saw that her girlfriend was just wearing a long t-shirt and she had nothing else on, no underwear's, nothing, absolutely nothing.
"Kara?"
"Yeah yeap, I'm sorry, what did you just say?" she was definitely having a talk with her girlfriend after the call, it wasn't going to be easy for Kara to concentrate on something if she kept going around the house like that.
"The good one is that we finished the debriefing last night and you don't need to go back to the DEO." Kara made a small gesture of victory, while Lena's visual hit her again as she walked towards the bathroom.
"Great, now, what's the bad one?" Kara took a deep breath, preparing for whatever was coming out of her friend's mouth while she observed the cars drive by and people hurrying to get to the bus stop, they seemed so tiny from so high up.
"We need you to come to Stoneheaven today, the clans are becoming restless and we have to finally name you as the new Alpha" she knew that probably what Brainy had to tell her was about the future of the pack, and even if she wasn't ready yet, she had to be there. In the background she could hear Nia's voice again "Kara will be the new Alpha? "Awesome!" There was a reason why Nia was her best friend, her energy was contagious.
"Okay, I'll tell Lena and we'll be there in the afternoon."
"How are you feeling?" They had been in the car for about two hours and the anxiety was rising.
"A part of me wants to keep moving forward and take care of this whole mess and the other part, the bigger part wants to turn around and hide under the bed." Lena let out a laugh and the sound made Kara relax.
"I know it's hard after everything that happened, but you are not alone. Unlike the last time we were here, now I am also like you and together we are going to confront anyone who dares to protest" her words were sharp and her confidence was contagious. "Also, we both know that this is your destiny and there is something bigger waiting for us, this is just the first step, we cannot allow anyone to take this away from you."
Kara nodded and for the rest of the trip they just made small talk to calm themselves.
When they arrived, the front of castle was packed with cars and several men from the different packs were chatting outside. Eyes were on them as soon as they got off the car, Kara straightened her pose and took Lena by her hand, moving towards the front door at a steady pace, some of them seemed to recognize her and she could feel some hostility coming from them, to keep them in place, Kara released some pheromones, several of them exposed their necks to her and Lena clanged more tightly to her arm.
Just as they were about to walk through the door, Winn appeared out of nowhere almost tackling them. "Kara!" His friend gave them both a warm hug and then distanced himself to look closely at the blonde and smell her scent. "It's good to have you back, that other version of you was scary as…hey!" Lena hit him hard on his arm before he could end the sentence.
"Your lack of tact never ceases to amaze me" the brunette was upset so Kara put her hand around her waist and gave her a kiss on her cheek to give her some comfort.
"Don't worry love, I'm used to him not having any type of filter, I'm glad to be back too." Together they headed to one of the largest rooms in the castle and waited for the rest of the pack, Lena as always was at her side, grabbing at her hand tightly.
Brainy was the first to speak "As everyone knows, the loss of my father left three of the largest packs without their Alpha and we cannot continue this way, a pack needs its Alpha, it needs someone to guide them, the protect and educate them in our ways. In our previous meeting we announced our candidate." Kara nodded and all eyes fell on her "Many of you agreed, but there are some who still have doubts, we all know the rules, whoever thinks they can beat the Alpha candidate can step forward, whoever wins a one-on-one match will be the one who continues competing until only one winner remains and that person will be the new Alpha." Brainy could see some members moving through the crowd about to take a step forward, but before they could, he continued, "We don't want this to be an unfair fight, many of you don't know Kara or her origins, so we're going to do the same demonstration that we did in our last meeting so that they understand why we believe that she should become the next Alpha of these packs" some looks became skeptical, others turned curious and some showed understanding about what was coming, Kara took a step forward and without warning she began to release her pheromones, this time without restraining herself. Gradually, each member of the pack fell to their knees, one after another with their bare necks left to her mercy, even the men who were about to challenge her were then on their knees with shocked faces and even with their greatest effort, they weren't able to get up. Kara's eyes shone with an intense blue and black, and when she looked to the side, the only one still standing next to her was Lena, her mate, who was unbothered and looking at her with pure admiration while her eyes also shone with an intense greenish blue color. That was the first time Kara had seen her eyes, really seen them after she was turned, and the sight took her breath away, Lena was strong, she could feel her strength, her power, and further than that…she was stunning, she was as destined as Kara to become something special and to be able to witness her transformation made Kara feel absolutely proud, without hesitation she took her right hand and placed a soft kiss on her knuckles, the rest of the pack were looking at them with attention and admiration, when she believed that everyone in the room was convinced, Kara stopped releasing her pheromones and the air cleared in a few minutes, slowly they got up and when everyone was standing, Brainy spoke again.
"Okay, now that everyone's aware, does anyone still want a chance against Kara?" Silence reigned in the room, Brainy waited for a couple of minutes and when no one intervened he decided to continue "Perfect, the naming ritual will be carried out tonight, Kara, is there anything you want to add?" Kara looked towards the pack, in the front row were Barry and Oliver who were watching her proudly and at the end of the room she could see the reddish hair of her sister who apparently had just arrived.
"I know that many of you find it difficult to hand over this important position to a stranger, it was not my intention to become the Alpha of the pack either, but it is my destiny and no matter how much I try to reject it, I can't look away, not this time. I just want you to know that I am not going to change the way Jonn handled things, even if tonight I'll become the Alpha of this pack, each group already has their appointed leader and that will remain the same, I will exercise my position if necessary, in the meantime I only ask for you to give me a chance" After that, Kara took Lena by the hand and headed towards where her sister was, she hated giving speeches so she didn't want to drag it out.
"Hi sis" Alex gave Kara a warm and tight hug and then Lena followed.
"Excellent speech, but my favorite part was when you put all those men at your feet" the soft voice took her by surprise.
"Kelly?" Kara immediately went for a hug "I didn't know you were coming with Alex".
"Missing your ascension to the new Alpha? Never, besides, with everything that happened, I thought you might need a few drinks and a talk" Kelly smiled sweetly at her and Kara knew that she was being sincere, that there were no ulterior motives behind her offering, they spent the rest of the afternoon sitting by the fireplace going over the events of the past few months in great detail. The four of them shed some tears at some point, but the alcohol made everything flow easier.
Lena was nervous, she was late once again, this time Jess was to blame as she had to make sure for the eleventh time that Lena's dress and makeup were perfect, when she entered the building she quickly began to scan the crowd. In the distance she was met by an intense gaze, and her body began to move with a mind of its own. The blonde was approaching her at a steady pace, and once again, the outfit she was wearing made her ten times more attractive, the black shirt with the sleeves rolled up and the first three buttons undone made her neck stand out, Lena swallowed hard as she got closer and closer.
"Miss Luthor, I'm glad you were able to attend, you look beautiful in that dress" the blonde looked at her with hunger and Lena couldn't wait to get out of that place to finally get rid of the rest of the buttons on that shirt.
"Thank you for inviting me, you look great too darling" Lena got closer and placed a sweet kiss on her mouth.
"Come, I want to show you something." Kara interlaced their arms and together they headed to the side of the room, when they got close enough, Lena gasped in wonder. "Is that me?"
"I told you I wanted to take a picture of you to show you how I see you." Kara rested her chin on Lena's shoulder as they both admired the photo.
"I never thought I would feel comfortable with someone taking a picture of me like that, but I have to admit, you captured something that no one ever could." Lena turned around, putting both arms around Kara's neck, their gazes met again and their eyes were shining in an exceptional way. "It's nice to enjoy this moment without any exes interrupting" Kara smiled.
"If we ignore the disdainful look that Andrea is giving us, it almost feels like the perfect night." Kara shifted her gaze towards the woman on the other side of the room.
"You just have to ignore her, that's what I did every time she tried to talk to me after I broke up with her" Lena smirked when she saw her girlfriend's shocked face.
"You went out with…" before she could finish, Lena had captured her lips in a soft but intense kiss.
"None of that matters anymore, I'm yours and I want to be yours for the rest of our lives." The intensity and truth behind Lena's words left her breathless and her chest swelled with happiness.
"Even if I tell you that I want to travel to Russia to investigate more about the Nouri?" Kara asked mischievously, they had yet to talked about the implications of her becoming the Alpha but one of her goals was to find out more about her ancestors.
"We have plane tickets for next week" Lena responded without hesitation.
"What? How did you know?" Kara was dumbstruck.
"Let's say that I know you and besides, our bond infected me with all that anxiety that you have going on lately" Lena placed another kiss on her lips "I will always be by your side Kara, wherever you go" her kiss was more passionate and this time Lena was the one who, unintentionally, let out some pheromones. When the scent hit her, Kara grabbed her by her arm, they quickly left the room and stopped at a familiar dark hallway.
"How am I supposed to restrain myself if you do that?" Kara ran her tongue over her sensitive neck, sucking intensely.
"What can I say, there are times when I don't want you to control yourself" Lena smiled and kissed her girlfriend intensely once more while she lowered her hand down her body until she placed it where she needed her the most. They were so lost in themselves that they didn't hear the footsteps approaching.
"For God's sake, not again!" Cat turned around and left the place as fast as her heels allowed her.
"Oops" Kara chuckled.
"Ready?" Lena reached her hand out to her mate.
"As ready as I can be" Kara took her hand and together they began to board the plane. Once inside, they both found themselves with a glass of champagne in hand "For new beginnings"
"For new adventures" they toasted and together they began a new journey.
