Compared to Professor Oak, Bill's lab seemed like a bit of a mess. Papers strewn about everywhere, a bulletin board with scattered articles and photos connected with yarn, tools and parts scattered about. All in all, Red wasn't surprised he managed to accidentally fuse himself with a Hypno.
"So, how do we get you back to normal exactly?" Blue asked, confused. Red was too busy thinking about how unfortunate it was that Green wasn't able to visit this lab. She probably would have loved it. Maybe once she defeated Misty, and he was sure that that was the only way that battle could go, he'd ask Bill if she could visit.
"Just press the button once I stand in the transfer system. It should transfer the Hypno out while I remain in here," he said uncertainly.
"What if it doesn't?" Red asked worriedly.
"Not sure, but it can't be worse than this," Bill chuckled nervously as he went into one of what looked like two pods connected by a vent of some kind . "Alright, go ahead."
While Blue was busy getting Bill back to normal, Red walked over to the corkboard and saw an article talking about a disaster at one of the Cinnabar Island Labs. It was connected to one about the disappearance of the Champion, and her last request being to block entrance to Cerulean Cave. It was then connected to a tabloid article about Mew being spotted in the Viridian Forest a few days ago. Looking at the date, that was around the time that Red was training to fight Brock. He could already hear green explaining that no, a tabloid is not a reliable source.
"Ah, you're looking at my Mew wall?" Bill asked as he walked over.
"Errrr, what?" he asked, a bit surprised by the statement.
"I've been trying to track down Mew, I think it might be out there. I haven't had much luck though, outside of tabloid journals and random occurrences," Bill said with a sigh.
"Hey, if you don't mind, I'm gonna go back out, that Abra isnt gonna catch itself," Blue said as he headed to the door and waved the other two goodbye.
Red looked at the wall, too transfixed to notice Blue's disappearance. "I've wanted to find Mew too, I like to think it's out there, but..."
"Yeah, no use dwelling on dreams. Finding Mew is just a side project anyway, my real passion project is this," he said as he gently slapped the side of the transfer system.
"So, that machine, what does it do exactly? Cause all I know is it was able to cause and fix whatever happened to you."
"Well, this was a prototype, but the goal is it is gonna be able to transfer Pokemon around the world, so far it can only transfer between these two Pods."
"Wait, are you the same Bill who made the Pokémon Storage system? My friend has been talking about you all the time," As Red spoke, he found himself wondering if Green finished her battle yet and how he was doing.
Green smiled as she held the Cascade badge in her hand. Rose and Rika really were the perfect combination to take on a Water Gym. She happily returned to the Pokécenter and submitted her Pokémon for healing.
"Ah, you're Green Oak, correct?" the nurse asked with a smile as she pulled out an envelope addressed to her.
"What is this?" Green asked as she opened the envelope to see a rather fancy letter.
Dear Miss Oak,
The Indigo League is honoring Professor Oak with the prestigious Akari-Rei Award for Scientific Excellence.
As such you have been formally invited to attend this event which is set to occur at the end of the month.
Enclosed with this letter are two tickets to the luxury liner the S.S. Anne which shall be docked in Vermillion City.
The first ticket is yours, the second ticket may be for whatever plus one you wish to bring aboard.
Green smiled at the letter, "Looks like grandpa is getting another award to display in his lab. Ummm excuse me nurse? Is there a similar letter for my twin brother Blue by any chance?" she asked curiously.
"Yes, there is, why?" she replied as Green began dialing his phone number.
"Sup, ya big nerd?" Blue asked when she finally reached him.
"There's a letter waiting for you in the Pokécenter," Green said, not wanting to mince words with her brother at the moment.
"What? No hello, how's my twin brother doing?" Blue asked, pretending to sound offended.
"You never call to ask how I'm doing?" she pouted before clearing her throat. "Anyway, the Pokécenter has a letter for you, so I'd come over there to get it sometime."
"Can't you just bring it to me? I'm kinda busy trying to expand my team."
"How do you know I'm even close to where you are? Any Pokécenter can store your mail, you know!"
"Because I ran into Red, and if he's here that means you're in Cerulean City right now, so just get my letter and head north already."
"Fine, but in return you have to catch an Abra for me, I wanna research them and they are super difficult to catch."
"Come on! That's the Pokemon I've been trying to catch for hours! Now you want me to catch a second one?"
"Okay, fine, I'm not that mean, as long as you let me analyze your Abra after you catch it?"
"Deal. Thanks, I'll tell Red you'll be coming up soon!"
"Wait you don't need to..." she heard the beeping signaling that Blue hung up. "Excuse me nurse, would it be okay if I take that letter to my brother?"
Green sighed as she began walking along the bridge towards Route 25. She'd retrieved her Pokemon who were in perfect health, but that didn't stop her from being annoyed by the fact that she was on this fetch quest for her Twin. Up ahead she noticed a strange man wearing a similar uniform to the one she saw Jessie and James wearing back at Mt. Moon, she could tell there was trouble, and didn't want to make it double by engaging with him. Unfortunately, she was stuck on the bridge, and would have to pass him to continue. She gripped her Pokéball tightly as she walked by.
"You, there! Young lady, you seem like a capable trainer! Are you interested in taking part in the Nugget Bridge Challenge?" the man asked with a smile as he gestured to the 5 trainers who were standing nearby him.
The Nugget Bridge trainers were a joke, in Green's estimation at least. Most of their Pokémon didn't even obey them as Rose and Rika wreaked havoc on them and easily secured Green a victory.
"So, I won, can I go on my way now?" Green asked awkwardly as the adrenaline of battle began wearing off. Rose especially was tired after the last match against a Machop, and she was sure Rika needed rest too.
"Not so fast there missy, you won, wouldn't you like your prize?" the man asked, pulling out a gold nugget. "Just sign here, and this prize is yours."
Green awkwardly read the contract she was handed before crumpling it up and tossing it back at him. "Keep your stupid nugget, I'm not joining Team Rocket."
"You weren't supposed to read that." The man took out his Pokéball and stared her down.
"Seriously? This was your scheme? Trick players into joining your gang by promising them a gift with a stupid contract? You have to be the dumbest criminal I've ever met." Green took out her own Pokéball and sent out Rika.
"Pikachu? Don't you know Ekans eat rodents like that?" the man asked as he sent his Ekans out.
"They aren't even found in the wild at the same places," Green said, annoyed a bit as she tried to compose herself. This was a battle, no time to focus on his being wrong. The distraction already gave her opponent time to launch his first attack.
"Ekans, Wrap attack," the man ordered. Ekans began silently slithering towards Rika and prepared to coil itself around her. Green cringed at her foolishness as she quickly regained composure and made her command.
"Rika! Use Quick Attack, get out of there!" Rika nodded and jumped straight at Ekans's face, hitting it in the lower jaw before soaring past and landing on her feet a few meters away.
"Your speed won't save you, Poison Sting!" Ekans opened its mouth, and began spitting venom out at Rika. Once it hit the air, the venom crystalized into spikes that threatened to pierce Rika's skin.
"Dodge it with another Quick attack, then get in close for a Thunder Wave!" Rika continued speeding around, dodging each spike before running in close to release static electricity into the air. As Rika got close though, Ekans managed to sink its teeth into her tail.
"Great work, now take it down with wrap." Despite his command, Ekans didn't move at all. Instead it began twitching awkwardly as it tried to wrap itself around Pikachu, but it's attempt was unsuccessful. Rika turned around and pried Ekans's mouth off of its tail so that she could run away from her opponent.
"Rika overloaded its nervous system. Poor thing is Paralyzed right now, I'd get it to a Pokécenter once this battle is over," Green said. She felt bad for the Poor Ekans, it wasn't its fault that its trainer was a criminal.
"Tch, fine then. Zubat, take her down!" the man said, swapping his Ekans out for said Pokémon.
"Seriously? A flying type? Rika, thundershock," Green said with a facepalm as her Pikachu shot a jolt of electricity at the poor Zubat before it could do anything, rendering it fainted.
