I screamed as his body thudded to the ground, unmoving as blood blossomed from the gunshot wound.
Another shot rang out as I bolted out of view.
Running out of the alleyway, I ran into the next one and hid behind a dumpster.
I tried to control my breathing as I heard footsteps passing by.
"Shit! She's gone!" A gruff voice yelled.
Their voices faded as they continued their search.
I let out a shaky breath as I slumped to the ground.
The cold metal collar chafed against my neck.
As the adrenaline wore off, I felt the after effects of the shock.
My throat burned and ached.
I placed my hand on it, trying to find a way to free myself.
It was hard to tell with my shaky hands and how intricate the design felt.
Silence filled the air.
My limbs felt so tired, but I forced myself to stand.
I need to get as far away as I can.
Looking behind me, I did see another road at the end of the alleyway.
As I cautiously navigated the shadows, I heard a gruff voice.
"Look who we found!" One of her henchmen's voices echoed.
Sprinting, I hear their pounding footsteps trailing mine.
As soon as I reached the end, two of them appeared.
Shit.
"Nowhere to run now."
With a deep breath, I steeled myself for the confrontation ahead, knowing that I couldn't rely on my powers. I couldn't risk ruining my vocal cords any further.
As the guards advanced, I sprang into action, my movements swift and fluid as I unleashed a flurry of strikes. My fists flew like lightning, finding their mark with deadly precision as I dodged and weaved through their attacks.
But the guards were no pushovers, their training evident in every blow they landed. Each strike sent shockwaves of pain coursing through my body, but I refused to back down.
With a fierce cry, I launched myself at my opponents, driving them back with sheer force of will. Blow after blow rained down upon them, my fists and kicks a blur of motion as I fought with all of my strength.
But just when victory seemed within reach, disaster struck. One of the guards landed a solid blow to my side, sending me crashing to the ground with a grunt of pain. For a moment, everything seemed to blur together, the world spinning dizzily around me.
I can't give up. I can't let them take me again.
I pushed back to my feet as I faced my adversaries once more. With renewed determination, I launched myself back into the fray, each movement fueled by sheer grit and determination.
And as the last guard fell before me, defeated and broken, I let out a breath.
Bruised and battered, but unbowed, I stood tall.
Another shot rang out. I yelled as the bullet pierced my calf. I fell to the floor and looked at my wound. Tears welled in my eyes at the pain.
A slow clap sounded and my stomach dropped.
"Well done," her voice echoed.
Panic surged as she advanced, a sinister smile playing on her lips. I started to get up and try to get away.
"It's funny how you think you can escape," she said lowly, the anger flashed in her eyes.
"I wouldn't run if I were you." She held up a remote and pressed a button. I screamed and fell to the ground, convulsing. It hurt a lot more than when I used my power. The burning and the shocks; it was all too much.
She laughed as the burning shocks ran through my body. I clawed at my throat, trying to get it off. My vision started to fade as my vocal cords strained from my screams.
Suddenly, the pain stopped. Tiny shocks shot through my body.
"Oh God, Lia!" I felt a hand on my shoulder as I tried to squirm away. "It's okay. I-I'll take you somewhere safe." I felt myself being lifted and I whimpered from the strain of my leg. Or maybe it was the burning sensation from my neck. I looked up and saw Spiderman.
Words couldn't express how relieved I was. I rested my head against his chest as all of what happened caught up to me.
I sighed as the world faded.
