Dear Dairy, Is that how you start these things off? if its good enough for the cartoons its good enough for me. So first day at beacon wasnt what i expected. The Bullhead ride was fine until this guy started throwing up everywhere. Then there was an explosion at the entrence and i was getting ready to fight off some kind of attack but it was some lady from the SDC whos lugage went up in smoke. Now were all packed in this ballroom place, boys at one end and the rest of us here, i dont know where i would rather be. The SDC lady started shouting at this really pretty blonde girl so thats annoying but on the boy side theres a guy in a headlock and only like 3 people wearing shirts. Still havent really talked to anyone yet.
"Guess we may as well fix that while we're all here together…" the short haired ginger girl mumbled to herself putting down her mint condition journal.
Her blue eyes scanned the sea of futons and feather pillows that filled the hall. Sure she saw people everywhere she looked but they were already talking to each other and forming their own groups, she couldn't just force herself into someone else's conversation. "Oh gods we can't have another Signal" she thought as a small panic began to crawl from her memories.
The panic crept into the corners of her vision as her mind raced "this wasn't part of the plan, it's a fresh start, not round 2". Her vision was cleared by the radiant sight of a nervous girl closer to the boys side of the room.
The girl in actuality was not radiant at all, the opposite one could even say. The brunette wore a black t-shirt and track pants and held herself in a way that screamed 'I'm not here'. That was clearly not working as proven by the energetic white and yellow clad woman closing in on her.
"Hey, I'm Gemma, what's your name?" said the girl, wearing a white onesie that faded to yellow at the limbs in a gradient. The darker girl was silent and looked at Gemma, lips slightly parted with shock and surprise, "come on, there's still a space next to where I am!"
Gemma lead the other girl by the hand, despite their respective clothing choices Gemma's skin was more tanned than the pale girl being half dragged through the ballroom. The girl's voice came out almost a whisper that said, "No, you don't under…"
"Come on! Here! Put your sleeping bag there. Oh this is going to be great girlfriend, we could end up on the same team and it would be a slumber party every night!" Gemma's eyes seemed to shine an even brighter blue with her excitement. "Oh I'm so sorry, I didn't even get your name"
"Look, I really shouldn't…" the girl said in a panicked whisper before trailing off, "it…it's Teph Tal… Tephs my name" she said with a weird mix of fear and bashfulness.
Gemma noticed the strange response but in a moment of brief self-awareness realised how hypocritical it would be to complain about that. "Soooo…Teph? I never saw you at Signal, are you from another school? Oh Oh, are you from another kingdom?!" Gemma asked her confusion and suspicion quickly being overtaken by the excitement.
"Yeah I'm from a smaller city in Vacuo, you probably wouldn't have heard of it…"
"Try me, I had my sister as my tutor for history and geography and she's the best tutor in Vale" Gemma smugly responded, accepting the challenge.
Teph had gotten up long before Gemma which the latter only found out when the former woke her up, already dressed. Teph was wearing a tight long sleeve shirt, a breastplate modestly covering her chest, with pants that were tight at the calves but baggier at the thighs, all black as Gemma could have guessed. Gemma only now noticed the black bandage like wrappings around her neck like some sort of emo-hospital core choker.
"Hey, uh Gemma, we need to be at initiation in forty five minutes. I'm all good so do you want to meet up outside? They're serving breakfast out front" She said in a whisper trying to force a smile while still being very clearly nervous.
Gemma's outfit was allot more colourful than Teph's (not that that's saying much), it was a white jumpsuit under a long orange coat which the sides ended at her thigh while the front and back extended down to points below her knees. She fastened the silver buckles shut on her coat and tall boots, and pulled the extra bits of hair back into a messy mix between a bun and a ponytail before striding out of the hall to meet Teph.
The pale girl was sitting on the front steps, her hair done up in a ponytail at the back and a long side part at the front. She had dark red armour plating with black metal trimming on her chest, shoulders and shins, and was wearing a pair of round glasses. Next to her sat two wrappers, one filled with a breakfast sandwich and the other scrunched in a ball. Noticing the new presence she turned around "Oh, hi Gemma, I got you something from the stall, not a big variety today since the mess hall is for the 'initiated' students" she whispered holding out the densely packed breakfast meal.
"Thanks, what's in it?" Gemma asked, already taking a bite before Teph could respond.
"It's oh…uh, avocado, egg, and bacon…is that all right with you?"
"Et sherteny esh" Gemma said with a mouthful of the described ingredients. Soooo, you picked out your uniform yet?"
Teph's face turned red, "No! No, I haven't made any selection yet. We don't even get them until after initiation anyway."
"Yeah but you can still pick stuff out now, what's got you so upset anyway? Just because your flat doesn't mean you aren't one of the cutest on campus" Gemma teased.
Teph spluttered and stammered for a good minute before her face faded from the colour of her armour, "You know for someone who described themselves as a 'loner' at Signal you're certainly…outgoing"
"Oh come on, I had some friends, they just didn't go to combat schools so we didn't really hang out too often."
With a swing of her silver cat-o'-nine tails whip cutting inches deep into the gooey flesh, the last beowolf dissipated into smoke leaving the four huntsmen in training standing in the ruins of what might have been a circle of pillars, now almost flat with a few pedestals and piles of rubble scattered about.
The others had all slain their respective opponents leaving the surrounding woods scattered with scorch marks and melting orange crystalline growths. Gemma and Teph had been the only two to actually coordinate anything as the two boys had gone off on their own violent tirades. Landing had gone perfectly and they hadn't even come across any grimm until now.
"I…is this it?" said Teph, looking around the ruins.
"I guess it is, I mean, these pedestals look like the place…even if most of them has all been destroyed" Gemma responded, the confusion deep in her voice. She had studied this place, it was her dream to be a huntswoman, and Beacon had been her life-long goal so was only obvious to study the initiation inside and out, it was how she managed to make sure she got partnered up with Teph after all.
"I'm not sure, you would think Beacon's initiation would have a little more than a couple dozen beowolves between the four of us" grumbled the black haired man, Ethan as they had come to know him, crouching down and moving a small pile of rubble. He was clad in archaic fashion under armour made of small dispersed copper plates over key areas.
"Hey, what's that thing?" Asked the blonde rat faunus from over his shoulder, pointing at the freshly exposed gold under the rubble Ethan moved.
Pulling the bishop from its half buried state Gemma confirmed, "this is definitely the place, but what in the shattered moon happened here?"
"Team RWBY led by Ruby Rose" Ozpin finished, letting the four girls walk off stage when the applause died down.
Being the only four left it was obvious who her team was, although she was surprised to see the SDC girl being paired up with her bombing victim and the beautiful blonde woman she was arguing with last night, "That's a shame, would've loved to have her on my team".
"Ethan Rustcliffe, Rye Dipodomy, Gemma Rillo, and... Teph Talnami." Once the four were lined up Ozpin continued, "the four of you collected the white bishop pieces. From this day forward you will work together as team ERGT, led by... Ethan Rustcliffe."
