Anne Marie shouted, "Didn't I tell you we were gonna have it all?!" She grabbed Ian and laughed. They fell on their bed. Kurt looked terrified and said, "Oh, my God. Can you guys please wait until I leave the room?" Anne said, "Can you hurry?" Kurt grunted and zipped. Anne Marie and Ian kissed. Rachel said, "Shelby? Jack, are you guys in here? I…" Shelby and Jack were kissing and moaning. Shelby was sitting on the kitchen counter. Rachel turned around and said, "I did not need to see that." Shelby giggled. "Hi, Rachel." Jack slipped a tiny friendly slap above her waist. "Oh!" she exclaimed. Rachel giggled, "What is up with Mr. Happy?" Shelby said, "I don't know. He's been like this ever since your opening night." "I didn't know me being Fanny was such a turn-on." Jack grabbed a beer. "I thought we all deserve a little celebration." He smashed it open with a meat hammer. Rachel jumped in shock. "Looks like I know what I'll be giving Puck for Hanukkah." He grabbed a cloth to wipe the spill. Rachel said, "Glad to see my Broadway career hasn't gone to either of your heads." Claire was stressing out about Nationals, graduation, and wondering what she was gonna do during college. She was singing "Scream" from High School Musical 3.
In the community center, Claire found all the others sitting down. She said, "Okay. I have a few announcements. First, I want to thank you all for all the support you've given me and each other the last couple of months. This is it. This is finally here. Nationals. It's not just my last performance. It's some of yours, too, so we need to go big. Be the best that we can be and bring it all home." Jake said, "We wouldn't miss it for anything, Claire." Marley said, "Yeah, you made us all a team again. We're in it for the long haul." Austin said, "It's been a pretty wild ride." Ann said, "It's also been a really rough year." JJ said, "We all had a great time. There's no way we're gonna let you down." Claire said, "Well, we have our setlist, we have our costumes—the only thing we have left to do is go to Nationals and sing like we have never sung before." They all put their hands together. "Amazing!"
Rachel said, "Shelby, there's something I have to tell you." Shelby said, "Oh, no. What'd you do now?" "Nothing. This time. It's not about me. That audition I went to in LA. I showed them a tape of you singing and they went nuts over it. Mr. Paulblatt told me that they wanted to make a new drama series." "That's great. What's that got to do with me?" "They wanted you. They're asking you to star in it." "Wait, what? Me? Really?" "Yeah. He said that they were going to send a screenwriter to our location sometime next week and check us out for herself to see if you're good enough for the lead." "Me? W... Rachel, this is…this is big. Huge. I don't know what to say." "You don't seem so positive about this." "No, I am. It's just…Jack and Broadway daycare." "I'm sure he'll understand. He'll be excited to go with you. And there are other teachers who will be happy to fill in for you." "Yeah." "Well, anyway, I realize that this is a lot to take in. So, you can think about it. Meanwhile, I have a previous engagement with a few dogs, and Kurt's helping Maggie Banks with a Peter Pan production." "Peter Pan?" At the senior citizen center, the Peter Pan actress sadly passed on, so Kurt offer to fill in for her. The others seemed okay with it. One man said, "There are only two rules here. One, never forget your teeth, and don't mix your day pills with your night pills." Another man said, "I thought I was a pterodactyl." Kurt auditioned with Maggie and they hugged after she said, "That's our Peter." Shelby walked in one evening. "Hey, honey." Jack said, "Hey. How was work?" "One precocious child after another. What about you?" "Accounting is a drag. I get why Will Schuster didn't become one. I tried to call you after your class ended. Where have you been?" "Just getting ready for my big interview with the screenwriter later on." Jack seemed reluctant to discuss the matter. "Oh." "Yeah, I've been meaning to talk to you about this. Rachel said that they heard my tape and they want me to star in my very own drama series." "Where and when?" "In LA. They're planning on debuting it this fall." "That's great, Shelby. Congratulations." "Well, you can be in, too, if you wanted." "I don't really think television is for me." "Well, maybe you could come anyway for emotional support." "Do you even know if you want this gig?" "I tried to be an actress most of my life. That's all I've ever wanted after my parents gave up Rachel. That and I really wanted to meet her. I did and now I get to have my first dream come true." "What about me?" "Jack, you're very important to me. That's why I'm telling you this. I wanted you to be the first to know." "I appreciate that. Let me know when you want to talk about something else. Dinner's almost ready." "Great."
Rachel said, "So, are we going to see Claire perform at Nationals?" Kurt said, "Oh! Oh, that." Blaine said, "Uh, yeah. We wouldn't miss that." Mercedes said, "Treble Base at Nationals." Artie said, "It does have a nice ring to it." Rachel said, "Guys, we have to give Claire our love and support. This is her last year of performing and now more than ever, she needs her friends and family there by her side." Blaine said, "So, are we going?" Artie said, "Oh, we're going." Kurt said, "And after that, you can see my Peter Pan." Mercedes said, "We'd hate to miss that, Kurt." The next day, Jack was playing video games again. Shelby finished her coffee and said, "You've been doing that all morning." "I'll take a break as soon as I'm done." "When will that be?" "Right now." He pushed the button and won the game. "Yes!" "Okay, well, I'm gonna go see what Rachel is up to." "You two always were the team-up." "What do you mean?" Jack put his controller down. "Look, babe, I think it's great that you two are always together. Rachel and Shelby, the dynamic duo of duets. Whenever you two sing, you always make such great music." "Why do I get the feeling you're gonna go on?" "And then she gets the part she's always dreamed of, and the minute she introduces you, those showbiz guys immediately decide to hire you and they hardly even know you." "I get that this is spur of the moment, but…" "So you just decide to just take the gig without thinking of the consequences that come with it." "Jack, I have been thinking about this. I have you and Broadway daycare. I'm not about to give that all up. I just finally have a shot at what I never got to do." "This is what you've always wanted. To be a big star. You never got any big leads in your career, so you decided to coach Vocal Adrenaline. You won so many trophies, and then you just decide to just stop all of that because you were bored with glee club." "Jack, what do you want me to say here? Huh? That I had no idea that Rachel was gonna do something so nice for me? That she was willing to give me a shot I never had in Lima? I thought you'd be happy about this. I thought you said you were okay with it!" "I am," he said angrily. "But how long do you think this series is gonna go on for, huh? One season? Maybe two or three?" "Look, nothing is definite. Besides, you're not exactly one to talk about your past, either, you know. You were stuck in a rut ever since Kyra left you. You thought you couldn't go on with your life. Well, congratulations, you did. But this is my choice, not yours." "You're right, Shelby. It is your choice. I don't get a say." He picks up his jacket. "I have to get to work." "Jack. Jack. Jack!" Jack slammed the door and they were on either side.
While everyone was at Nationals, the announcer was getting ready to call out the teams. "Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome our judges. All the way from California, Constance Marie! Well known Asian warrior, Ming-Na Wen! And everyone's favorite superhero, Mr. James Marsden!" Applause and cheering. Backstage, Claire was looking from the curtain. Rachel and Kurt smiled and waved. Mercedes and Blaine did, too. Claire smiled and waved back. Everyone was all dressed up. Claire said, "Guys, this is our last shot. You know, when I first joined glee club four years ago, I was just a kooky kid trying to get by. Now here it is, senior year and my last time performing in a team. I'm really gonna miss all of you. I'm gonna miss all the money I would've made with you." The others chuckled. "Joe, Sugar, Rory - thanks for sticking by us. By me. Jake, Ryder, Marley, Kit, Unique…you guys were the best team I could've ever asked for. Austin, Ann, JJ - you guys are great. You all really have what it takes. You have all the talent in the world, and I know you're gonna do great things. Win or lose, we're gonna do this for Finn." They all joined hands, raised them up, and said, "For Finn Hudson!" The announcer said, "And now, from Lima, Ohio, give it up for Treble Base!" Applause and cheering. Claire stood by the microphone and sang "Mama Who Bore Me" from Spring Awakening. Kurt said, "Wow. Claire's solo is breathtaking." Rachel said, "Yeah, she's good. This song sounds familiar, too." Applause occurred, then everyone burst into "I Don't Feel Like Dancing" by the Scissor Sisters. Everyone stood up and clapped to the beat. Finally, they segued into "Come So Far" from Hairspray. Some of them did backflips and jumps. The audience went wild. Claire's parents cheered.
In the judges room, Ming-Na said, "Okay, can I just say what we're all thinking? This is a waste of time. One show choir performs after another. What's the point? It's entertaining at first, but after a while it starts to get really overwhelming." Constance said, "Throat Explosion are certainly the team to beat. From what I hear, they won Nationals by a landslide last year." "Well, Treble Base was all well and good, but do they really have what it takes to make it in show business?" "That's rich. Nobody even knows who you are until they brought up that you voiced Mulan." "And what exactly have you been doing? Starring in a sitcom with George Lopez for five years, only to star in a new drama series that practically encourages people to disrespect the disabled? Marlee Matlin wasn't exactly friendly, either." James said, "Ladies, please. If you two are gonna fight, we would've gone to another arena. Now, all the teams were great. But I know who I'm voting for." Ming said, "You did get good reviews." Constance said, "You made a very strong Disney princess." On stage, James said, "Thank you all so much for joining us today. Now, this year's MVP is…Claire Thomas!" They all clapped and cheered. Claire took her trophy with pride and modesty. James said, "And now, the winner of the 2014 Nationals…the first place winner is…Treble Base!" Claire said, "What?!" Confetti popped and the big trophy went to them. They all cheered and slapped again. Rachel and Kurt hugged. Mercedes said, "Yeah, Claire!" Sam said, "Yeah!" Blaine said, "Whoo-hoo!" Jake and Ryder high-fived with Austin and JJ. Joe joined them. Marley, Kitty and Unique all hugged with Sugar and Ann. Claire lifted her trophy with the rest of the team. Anne Marie and Ian were so happy and proud.
Back in New York, Rachel was walking to Shelby. "Well, I don't know about you…but I had a blast. I am so happy for Claire. I'm proud. What's going on with you?" Shelby said, "Rachel...am I in over my head?" "In what way?" "Is this new drama series worth it? Do they even really want me? I don't even know if I want this." "What are you trying to say?" "Jack and I had a fight," she said, teary-eyed. Rachel raised her eyebrows in shock. "I don't think he wants me to do this show." "Shelby, that man is crazy about you. He's never want to stand in your way. This is your choice." "I told him that. But I don't know if it was the right thing to say. I'd give anything to do the show in New York. But more than that, I'd give it all up if it meant making Jack happy. I don't want him to make me choose. I choose him. Every time." "So, if you do this, I'm going to have to tell Mr. Paulblatt to not send over the screenwriter. If this is what you really want, Shelby, then I guess I have no other choice but to support you. And I know that Jack will, too."
At the senior center, Kurt and the others all performed Peter Pan. Everyone loved it, even Maggie's daughter, Clara. At the Spotlight Diner, everyone was applauding. A female reporter walked to Rachel with a microphone, "Rachel, this benefit was wonderful and amazing, to say the least." Rachel said, "Well, I couldn't have done it without all my friends." "Tell me, what's next for you?" "Just bringing all these people together, seniors and dogs alike." Kurt said, "We want all these poor dogs to find a good home." Anne Marie said, "Hey, where are Shelby and Jack? Shouldn't they be here, too?" Shelby was alone in the back room. A handsome German shepherd walked towards her. "Oh, hey there." She petted him. "And who might you be?" Jack said, "I thought his name should be Nelson." "You got us a dog?" "I thought we could use a little extra company." "I love him. Look, Jack…" "I was in a weird place, Shelby. I was upset. When you got so excited about the show, I really was happy for you. But I couldn't help but feel insecure. I thought that…" "Is that why you lashed out?" "I was afraid that if you took the job, you'd be more focused on that than me." "Jack, that's impossible. You're always gonna be number one. Rachel just wanted to return the favor." "And then she gave you what you always dreamed of." "I already got everything I wanted. This was just a bonus. But it was nice performing on stage again. It felt like old times. And even better, I got to do it with the man that I love. Let's face it. Funny Girl was always gonna be Rachel's. For me, I think I'm gonna see what LA has in store for me. And I want you by my side, Jack. Whatever I do, I always want you with me. Giving up Rachel was my only regret, but there's one thing in this world I would regret just as much, maybe more, and that's not having you in my life." They hug. "Shelby, I'm really sorry. I just didn't want to get my heart broken again." "Even one day without you is way too long. But I'm sorry, too. I really did think about you, and if you don't want me to take this, I'll refuse." "No. No, I want you to take the lead. I know now that even though we have different wants in life, we also have the same needs." "Jack, I didn't say yes because I was desperate. That was the farthest thing from my mind. I said yes because I can't imagine life with you. I guess I'm just…not cut out for Fanny anymore. I just didn't realize it until I met you." "Well…I got news for you, Shelby. You are that girl." Shelby chuckled and they kiss. "I love you." "I loved you the first time I saw you." Nelson barked. Shelby rubbed his head.
