~~∞∞Ω∞∞~~ Chapter 3 ~~∞∞Ω∞∞~~
"Ah I just wanted to say Bilbo hasn't eaten and they haven't brought anything yet."
"Alright. The others I'm sure are making something. Have Bombur make something for Master Baggins as well."
"Ok."
Ori headed for the door just as a knock sounded and an elf walked in. In his hands a bowl that was put down just in reach of Bilbo who sat up and stared at the bowl. The dwarves from outside piled in blocking the elf from leaving. Thorin looked at the bowl as Bilbo went to eat before snatching it away. Bilbo couldn't blame him for snatching it away, it didn't look nice but Bilbo needed the strength and he hadn't eaten since the morning of the trolls.
"Thorin." Bilbo said in annoyance.
"You aren't eating that."
"Then what? I haven't since the morning of the trolls like Fili and Kili. The rest of you ate dinner before the trolls."
"I'm sure Bombur will be happy to cook something for you. They were making food anyway." Thorin said with a look to the dwarves.
"No that's not necessary. That is fine. Don't go out of your way."
"Not a problem Master Baggins." Bombur said before turning and heading out to where they were cooking.
Thorin turned to the elf and shoved the bowl into his hands. The elf glared at him but didn't move.
"Would you eat this?"
"Of course not."
"But you would make Master Baggins eat it."
"He is a warg." The elf sneered.
"He is a hobbit first. Those are just scarps from dinner I'm sure, put together in a stew of some kind. If none of you elves will eat it than neither should Master Baggins."
"Thorin please its fine." Bilbo said to him but Thorin ignored him.
"Take that and leave."
The dwarves stepped out of the way and the elf left the room. Bilbo could hear the dwarves mumble in their own language under their breath and he could only gather that they were not polite words towards the elf or elves in general.
"Thorin that wasn't necessary."
"I deemed it was."
"What was lad?" Balin asked.
"You didn't hear Master Baggins speaking then?"
"No."
Thorin looked at Bilbo whose body was shaking with contained laughter and he realised that Bilbo was only speaking to him.
"Nothing Balin. Go back to what you were doing all of you." "That was not nice you know."
"True but you'll get used to figuring out if I'm talking to all of you or not."
Bilbo laid his head back down on his legs and shifted slightly to take some pressure off his front.
"You're in pain." Thorin stated.
"Not really. Just hurts when I put pressure on it."
"Does laying on your side make it better?"
"Well yes probably would for the most part."
"Than do so. You are safe here."
"I…I…"
"Or do you not trust some of us, Master Baggins."
"It's not that."
"Then?"
"The elves come in here quite a bit lately and if I'm asleep I may not know they are here."
Thorin nodded and left the room making Bilbo sigh and shift slightly to get more comfortable but still didn't expose himself. The dwarves set up their bedrolls together in an area of the room and Balin, Dwalin, Fili and Kili were talking about the rest of the journey, Dori and Nori were out with the others.
Thorin soon walked back in with two bowls and told the others food was out and they headed out to get some. Thorin walked over and placed the food down in front of Bilbo who looked at him and nodded his thanks before eating the meat stew Bombur had made. Thorin sat down a little bit away still unnerved by him and ate. Bilbo finished just as Bombur came in smiling seeing the bowl empty.
"I have more if you are still hungry Master Baggins."
"Bilbo please Master Bombur. And only if everyone has finished and not hungry."
"Than just Bombur as well. And there is still plenty if anyone wants more. I'll get you another bowl. Thorin, would you like some more?"
"No thankyou Bombur."
Bombur nodded and walked out before returning shortly after with a full bowl and placed it down in front of Bilbo before heading back out. Bilbo started eating and was half way through when Thorin finished his own.
"I have told the elves that we don't want any to enter the room anymore. And they won't get passed the company either way as they have already placed their bedrolls in front of the door to stop anyone getting in."
"Or out if that's the case." Bilbo chuckled. "But they don't have to do that."
"They wanted to. I don't think they appreciate the elves attacking you."
"I seem to recall most of the company trying to kill me when they found out I was the warg."
"I apologise for my actions and words towards you for that Master Baggins. I should have heard you out."
"Thorin it is not your fault. I have dealt with harsh words and actions all my life. I knew what your reactions would be."
"Regardless, we knew who you were and still that didn't help with the suspicion."
"I think if our places were reversed I would act the same. Besides everyone in Hobbiton knows who I am and they still act like I will hurt them." Bilbo said and Thorin just nodded slowly.
"You can relax whatever way is best for you as the elves won't be coming in. Not without our permission first and by then you would be awake anyway."
"Ok." Bilbo said shifting onto his side, exposing his belly.
"I wouldn't fall asleep just yet. Oin said he would be coming in shortly to check your wounds." Dwalin said as he entered with Balin behind him.
"How are you feeling laddie?" Balin asked.
"I'm alright."
"That looks very sore."
"It's not too bad. I'll heal."
"How long do you think?" Thorin asked.
"I will be ready to go tomorrow."
"I want to know how long till you heal not when you are ready to move." Thorin stated causing Bilbo to wince at the annoyance in his voice and his ears went back.
"About a week like Lord Elrond said. I think more about 4days for the bite and cut and 10days for my leg. But I'll be able to move on that tomorrow. I'll be ready whenever you want to leave Thorin."
Thorin nodded before collecting the bowls and taking them outside to Bombur. Most of the dwarves were already getting ready to sleep. Exhausted from the running they had done for the day and the sleep they didn't get the night before. Oin had a quick check on Bilbo's wounds before going and settling down for the night. Fili and Kili entered with Thorin and went to their packs and set up their bedrolls before settling down for the night. Thorin set up his on the other side of the room and sat against the wall keeping watch inside the room for the night.
Thorin spent the first few hours in silence shifting his gaze around the room. It was only sometime later that he heard whimpering. Looking around he found Bilbo's form restless and it was curled back on his front, twitching and whines and whimpers coming from him. Thorin didn't want the rest of the company to wake so he quietly got to his feet and walked over. Thorin knew waking an animal was dangerous especially if it was like Bilbo right now and having a nightmare.
Thorin moved right in behind Bilbo's head and shoulders so he was away from his front and gently touched his shoulder, away from the bite marks. Bilbo stopped whimpering for a minute and Thorin gently shook his shoulder.
"Bilbo wake up." He said, still quiet but loud enough for Bilbo to hear.
Bilbo jolted awake and head was instantly in the air panting. Thorin didn't move for a second to let Bilbo wake properly. Bilbo felt something sitting in his fur on his shoulder and looked around behind him to see Thorin there standing still. Bilbo relaxed and let out a breath and laid his head down on his paws. Thorin felt Bilbo relax and he came out from behind him and sat against the wall his legs crossed in front of Bilbo's head.
"You ok?"
"Yeah just a nightmare."
"What about?" Thorin switched to projecting his thoughts so no one woke or overheard.
"I-I don't remember."
"I think you do."
"It's not important."
"I think it is. I'm here to listen."
"I… I was dreaming of the trolls and how we got away from them but how I still ended up dead."
"I did it." Thorin said with a sigh and Bilbo turned his head away.
"I know everything was different, but I really did think you were going to kill me, Thorin."
"I know and I really think if Gandalf wasn't there to stop me, I would have."
Bilbo lifted his head when Thorin shifted his legs to try and get comfortable. Bilbo moved slightly and nudged Thorin's legs out before lying beside him so the side of his head was against Thorin's legs. Thorin put his hand on Bilbo's head and gently ran his hand through the fur. It was coarse like he expected it to be but more of a softness that wargs lacked.
"Thorin you should sleep."
"I'm fine."
"No, you aren't, and I really think you should get some sleep while we are somewhere safe."
"Don't know how well I'll sleep in the company of elves."
"You'll sleep fine. Just sleep."
"Very well." Thorin said and made to get up causing Bilbo to let out an involuntary whine. "Do you want me to stay?"
"Not if you don't want to." Bilbo said very faintly.
"I'll grab my bedroll."
Bilbo sat up slightly as Thorin climbed to his feet and collected his bedroll and brought it over. Bilbo shifted and laid right up against the wall and Thorin set his bedroll down. Thorin sat down and Bilbo shifted around and once again had his head pressed to Thorin's side.
"Are you going to lay down?"
"No, I'll be fine like this."
"Thorin." Bilbo said. "Lay down and sleep. I'm feeling better, so I'll know if someone comes in."
Thorin sighed and laid down beside Bilbo and made sure Orcrist was beside him. Bilbo tensed slightly when Thorin's hand went to Orcrist but relaxed almost instantly. Thorin knew Bilbo tensed up and he wasn't surprised he still didn't trust everyone, especially him since he was going to kill him before.
Bilbo curled up beside Thorin and closed his eyes. He wished things had been different, but he knew they wouldn't change and Thorin would never trust him completely. How could he? How could any of them? He was a warg. He just hoped they made it to the mountain and survived to reclaim it. He wouldn't be returning to Bag End so he hoped he would be able to find somewhere to live. Somewhere safe, as safe as he would ever feel when he left Thorin's presence.
