~~∞∞Ω∞∞~~ Chapter 5 ~~∞∞Ω∞∞~~

Everyone was making their way through the Misty Mountains, it was wet and cold. Bilbo shivered as they made their way up the mountain. Bofur was in front of him and Dwalin behind him and Bilbo was glad for it because he was having trouble with the mud and wet stone. Bilbo let out a cry as his foot slipped when stone gave way beneath him and he almost went head first over the cliff if it wasn't for Bofur and Dwalin grabbing him and pulling him back. Bilbo let out a sigh as he plastered his back against the mountain. Dwalin saw something in the sky and saw it was coming straight towards him.

"Lookout!"

Bilbo ducked his head and stayed close to the mountain as the rock impacted and fell down the mountain. Bilbo heard Balin and Thorin say something but couldn't make out what it was. More rocks were thrown and Bilbo felt the mountain beneath them start moving and he was suddenly yanked in close to Dwalin who pushed himself into the rock and had hold of Bilbo and Ori.

The next thing Bilbo knew was the stone giant they were on was suddenly moving extremely fast towards the mountain before impacting. Bilbo didn't know how it happened but he was suddenly holding on tightly to the side of the mountain.

"Where's Bilbo?" Bofur called out trying to find him. "Where's the hobbit?" Bofur looked back the way the others came and saw him on the edge of the cliff. "There!"

Bilbo was so terrified that he couldn't call out for help. He felt his grip slipping on the rocks as he tried to find some purchase for his feet.

"Get him!" He heard Thorin call out just as his grip slip before he caught onto some rock further down.

"Bilbo! Grab my hand!" Bofur called out to him as he and Ori tried reaching for him.

Bilbo tried reaching but couldn't grab their hands. He barely saw Thorin swing down from the ledge. Thorin grabbed him and pulled him up and Ori and Bofur grabbed Bilbo dragging him up. Bilbo saw Thorin slip just as he went back over the ledge and leaned against the wall of the mountain. Dwalin reacted quickly grabbing Thorin's arm and dragging him back over the ledge and didn't let go till Thorin was climbing to his feet.

"I thought we lost our burglar." Dwalin said in relief.

"He's been lost, ever since he left home." Thorin said looking at Bilbo with what Bilbo could only describe as disgust. "He should never have come. He has no place amongst us." Thorin moved further along the path and found an entrance. "Dwalin!"

Thorin entered the cave with Dwalin close behind as the company stayed outside to help get Bombur on his feet.

"It looks safe enough." Dwalin said in relief.

"Search to the back. Caves in the mountains are seldom unoccupied."

Bilbo moved in behind the rest of the company as Thorin was giving out orders to everyone. Bilbo heard Balin mention Gandalf and Thorin saying that it had changed. Bilbo knew then that if Gandalf wasn't going to be there then he wasn't wanted. Bilbo decided then that when everyone was asleep he would slip away.

Bilbo settled down to rest and was to the back of the group away from Thorin. He knew Thorin was his mate and what was the point in staying or being close to him if he wasn't wanted. He knew Dwarves had Ones but obviously Thorin already had his or that Bilbo wasn't his One. He knew hobbits and skin changers were different but obviously Thorin didn't feel that way. So, to stop the hurt that had come from the words spoken back on the mountain ledge Bilbo stayed as far as he could away from him.

Bilbo waited a little while longer before sitting up and packing his things up and went to move past Thorin when a hand shot out and grabbed his leg. Bilbo nearly let out a yell but was able to remain quiet, but he did jump. Looking down Bilbo was met with Thorin's glare as he sat up slightly.

"Where do you think you are going?"

"Back to Rivendell. You don't want me here, so I'll leave."

Thorin opened his mouth to say something when something caught his eye. He saw Bilbo's sword glowing blue and Bilbo followed Thorin's gaze and landed on his sword which he drew slightly. Thorin heard rumbling and wood creaking beside him. Thorin looked down and saw the dirt disappearing below them.

"Wake up! Wake up!" Thorin yelled at the company.

The company jolted awake and started to try and climb to their feet before the floor gave way.

~~∞∞Ω∞∞~~

Bilbo chased after the company as they made their way down the mountain after they had escaped from the goblins and Bilbo escaped the creature Gollum. Bilbo was making his way down towards where the dwarves had stopped with Gandalf.

"Where's Bilbo?" Gandalf asked. "Where is our Hobbit?"

Accusations started flying around and Thorin just shared a looked with Dwalin. He couldn't believe he had allowed the shifter in their company. He knew he couldn't trust him.

"Where did you last see him?" Gandalf asked Dori.

"I think I saw him slip away when they first collared us." Nori said.

"What happened exactly?"

"I'll tell you what happened." Thorin said. "Master Baggins saw him chance and he took it." Bilbo looked down trying to decide on whether or not he should leave. "He's done nothing but think of his warm hearth ever since he stepped out his door. We will not be seeing our hobbit again. He is long gone."

'No.' Bilbo decided and stepped around the tree. "No, he isn't." He saw the surprise on the dwarves face and even Thorin's face.

"Bilbo Baggins I've never been more happy to see anyone in my life."

"Bilbo we'd given you up." Kili said.

"How on earth did you get passed the goblins?" Fili asked.

"How indeed?" Dwalin said suspiciously.

Bilbo laughed nervously and Gandalf decided to change the subject.

"What does it matter? He's back."

"It matters. I want to know. Why did you come back?" Thorin asked.

"I know you doubt me. I know you always have. You don't trust me given what I am. You are right I miss home, even though I can't ever go back. That's why I came back because you don't have one. A home. So, I'll help you get it back if I can."

Bilbo saw the dwarves frown when he mentioned never returning home before they smiled at him. Bilbo was about to relax when they heard howls rip through the air.

"Out of the frying pan." Thorin said.

"And into the fire. Run. Run!"

Bilbo turned looking back up the mountain before running after the dwarves. He knew those howls and didn't want to meet them again. Bilbo ducked when he looked back to see a warg jump towards him but flew over him and turned back around Bilbo drew his sword as the warg stalked at him before lunging at him. Bilbo quickly lifted his sword and the warg became impaled on his sword. Bilbo stared in shock seeing the warg dead, he had killed many but that was in his shifted form. Bilbo quickly tried to walk past and take his sword at the same time but it was stuck.

Bilbo struggled for a second to remove his sword and when he finally did he was alone. Bilbo saw the wargs racing down the mountain before he ran to the trees. Bilbo looked around seeing wargs under them and looked to see where everyone was. Bilbo saw Thorin stare back the way they came.

"Azog."

Bilbo looked to see a pale orc riding a white warg. A warg Bilbo knew and had seen when he was much younger. Bilbo paled seeing it and he heard Azog say something but he didn't know what he said.

Bilbo held on tight seeing the wargs bolting towards the trees and leaping into them. He stared in horror seeing them breaking off branches and trying to climb their way up. With all the jumping at the trees the roots started to let go and the trees fell back onto each other. Everyone was leaping from tree to tree before coming to the last one that was right on the edge of the cliff.

Bilbo watched as Gandalf threw the first pine cone before sending another to the dwarves to start throwing. Bilbo grabbed a nearby pine cone and quickly used Fili's one to light his and threw it at the wargs. It pushed them back but soon the next problem came. With so many dwarves in the tree the tree roots couldn't hold the tree up and it started to fall off the edge of the cliff sending some dwarves to hang on the branches. Bilbo held on tightly to the branch as he saw Thorin stand and start marching down the tree.

Bilbo looked at Thorin and then to Azog who was still on the white warg. Thorin's sword was drawn and the branch Thorin carried as a shield in his other hand. Thorin ran down towards Azog with his sword and shield raised. The pale orc roared along with the warg and leapt at Thorin and the warg slammed its paw into his chest knocking him to the ground and the air from his lungs. Thorin struggled to his feet as Azog came at him again raising his club and slammed it into Thorin's chest, knocking him back down.

Bilbo was slowly climbing back onto the tree and stood there unsure if he should help Thorin or the dwarves left hanging. Bilbo could only watch as the warg got its mouth around Thorin's chest bringing a cry of pain from him. Bilbo turned hearing Dwalin call for Thorin and saw him fall as the branch broke, leaving him hanging. Bilbo saw all the dwarves were unable to help and when he turned back he saw Thorin still in the wargs mouth just as he brought his sword up and smashed it into the wargs face causing the warg to throw him and let go.

Thorin landed not too far away and unable to move, his sword just out of reach. Bilbo saw Azog speak to another Orc who climbed off his own warg and walked towards Thorin, blade drawn. Bilbo glared at the orc before racing down towards the orc, quickly shedding his jacket, waist coat and shirt. He saw Thorin trying to reach for his sword as the orc taunted him by raising and lowing the sword towards his neck a few times just as Bilbo launched at him.
