Hi everyone,

Sorry for the delay. I have had wrist surgery to fix my injury from last year, meaning I can't turn my wrist at the moment, so no typing at the moment. I can do a little bit of typing, just not typing up my stories.

I have been able to upload my stories to AO3, as there doesn't seem to be any support help from fanfiction anymore, so I am going to start moving stories across to there.

Anyway, onto the next chapter.

Enjoy.

Chapter 11

~~∞∞Ω∞∞~~

Thorin growled seeing Beorn disappear into the trees at a fast pace with Bilbo. Beorn had run at a speed so the dwarves to follow when they were trying to get to Bilbo because he knew how many there were.

"Thorin shall we go?" Balin suggested.

"Yes. We should see how the stupid hobbit is doing."

Balin and Dwalin shared a look with each other and the company glared at Thorin for his tone, but they knew he was only worried.

"You all head back. Thorin, can I have a word with you?" Balin asked.

The company wisely said nothing and Fili and Kili gave Thorin one last glare before disappearing with the others. Thorin looked at Balin and Dwalin with a look of annoyance.

"What is it?"

"You need to be careful about what you say around Bilbo. His mind won't be in the right place and the words you said to him could be rejection. You know about shifters and how hurtful, cruel words from their mates are."

"It is nothing different than what I said at the start of the journey."

"Yes and look at what that caused after the fight with Azog. He doubted you." Dwalin said.

"Thorin we know you and I noticed each hurtful word said by you to Bilbo had depressed him before you opened up to him and realised he was your one."

"You think he thinks I have rejected him?"

"It is possible. He refused to look at you just then after your words. He may not be thinking clearly."

Thorin stood there for a second before he turned and walked back through the trees to Beorn's. Balin and Dwalin followed closely after him.

Beorn entered his house as the wizard hurried over.

"Bilbo?"

"Clear the table wizard."

Gandalf hurried over and quickly cleared one side so Beorn could gently place Bilbo down on the dining table before clearing the rest so Bilbo could be laid on it completely. Beorn looked over Bilbo's injuries and once the rest of the table was clear he moved him, so he was on it better.

"Wizard, I need bowl of water and cloths."

"Of course." Gandalf quickly disappeared and Beorn looked back to Bilbo.

"You'll be alright Little Warg."

Beorn heard the dwarves rushing up to the door and went to meet them. He didn't need any distractions while he tended to Bilbo. Beorn opened the door and quickly walked out as the dwarves approached. He could see that they were worried.

"How is he? Is he ok?" Kili asked.

"It is too early to know. I need your healer. The rest of you wait outside. Including the dwarf that is the Little Warg's intended."

Beorn walked back inside with Oin hurrying after him. He could hear the dwarves talking amongst each other.

"Intended?" Bofur asked to no one really.

"I thought Thorin was Bilbo's mate." Kili said.

"Same here. Why would Beorn say intended?" Fili spoke as they all looked around at each other.

~~∞∞Ω∞∞~~

Beorn walked over as Oin pushed some chairs over along the side of the table and climbed up so he could see what needed done.

"I need you to treat the smaller wounds. Some of these are deep." Beorn said.

"No problem. Have you got needle and thread?"

"Yes. In the draw behind you."

Gandalf walked over with hot water and towels and placed them down beside Beorn. Beorn frowned as he looked at the wounds on Bilbo's neck. They were deep and the one to his shoulder was especially deep. Ripping the towel in half Beorn started to clean the two wounds to start, getting whimpers from Bilbo in his sleep. Oin came back over with the items they both needed and started to clean the wounds that he could reach and stitch them up.

"Let me in!" They heard from outside.

"Wizard keep him out. We can't have any distractions."

"Of course." Gandalf walked over to the door and left and heard him yell. "Thorin Oakenshield you will not enter this house."

"My One is in there. I will go to him."

"Not if you want him to live you won't. Oin and Beorn don't need any distractions. Bilbo is in a very bad way. He has lost a lot blood and if you start distracting them it could lead to Bilbo's death." They couldn't hear the response. "I know you want to be with him, but he is in good hands and once they are done, I'll make sure you see him."

"Wizard we need a hand." Beorn called out.

"Now please stay out here till myself, Oin or Beorn tell you otherwise." Gandalf walked back inside and over to Beorn.

Beorn sighed as he stitched up the last of the injuries and allowed Oin to bandage them and stood back. They had been at it for hours and they were lucky Bilbo was still alive with the amount of blood he lost. Beorn wiped his hands off and headed into his chambers and moved some things around and brought in a bale of hay and laid it in the corner, creating a makeshift bed to place Bilbo on. Having him in a room would prevent a heap of stress that the dwarves were likely going to create as he was healing.

"Wizard." Beorn said as he walked back out. "Bring the dwarves in but don't let them in this room till I have Little Warg settled."

Gandalf nodded and headed out the door and Beorn gathered Bilbo in his arms and took him to the makeshift bed. He heard the dwarves entering and protests at not being able to see Bilbo. Beorn laid Bilbo down and laid a blanket over him before walking out and closing the door. He saw Thorin glaring at him and Beorn crossed his arms as Thorin stood in front of him.

"Where is Bilbo?"

"You need to think before you speak. Your words to your intended were hurtful and you will need to show him now that you didn't mean them. You severed your connection with him. He felt it when you said them. You haven't sensed any of his pain, have you?"

"Not since the fight, no."

"Why did you say intended? I thought they were mates?" Kili asked.

"They are mates, but it hasn't been consummated. You agreed to be his mate but haven't physically mated so you are his intended. Once you do you will be his mate and you will be able to sense his emotions more clearly and over larger distances and you won't have to wait for him to initiate the mind talks."

"Why didn't he tell me?"

"Likely he wasn't sure how you would take the idea of mating with him. You are a dwarf and he is a hobbit and a shifter. He likely didn't know how far you would want to take it." Beorn said and he could see that the dwarf was hurt at the thought. "You may go see him. Watch what you say, because you will need to bring him back."

Thorin hurried inside and heard the door shut behind him. He looked around and saw Bilbo laid on a pile of hay under a blanket. Thorin hurried over, knelt in front of him and laid his hand gently on top of his head. Thorin saw no response from Bilbo that he felt it.

"Bilbo I'm so sorry. I never rejected you with what I said. I show my fear poorly like I said, and it comes out as anger. It's no excuse. Please wake up so I can apologise to you properly and show you that I never rejected you."

Thorin felt something run down his face and when lifted a hand he saw it was his own tears. Thorin gave a bitter smile and moved around and sat beside Bilbo's head and gently moved it to his lap. Thorin gently ran his hand along his head where he would normally pull purrs of content from him but he got nothing. Thorin leaned down and kiss Bilbo gently on the side of his face as more tears fell. He wanted to kill Azog and his warg even more now that this had been done to his One, his mate.

Thorin looked up when there was a knock at the door and some heads poked in. Fili and Kili being at the front, with Ori, Dori, Nori, Bifur and Bofur behind.

"Beorn said it would be alright if we ducked in to see him, if it's alright with you uncle?" Fili said.

Thorin nodded and the whole company piled in. Thorin looked back at Bilbo as they quietly came over. The company was quiet as Fili, Kili and Ori knelt beside Bilbo and Ori looked close to tears. Kili reached out and lifted the blanket a little before putting it down and looking away.

"He's alive and that's what matters." Thorin said softly, as he gently stroked Bilbo's head.

"How did this happen Thorin?" Balin asked.

"We had finished training and were resting for a while and Bilbo sudden just stopped talking and sat up and saying we needed to leave. He pushed us aside just as an old warg jumped out. Bilbo quickly gave me his sword and clothes as the warg came back to its senses. Bilbo killed it quickly, after he changed, and had me climb on his back and we were trying to get back, there were too many for us both to fight. Bilbo got cut off and he changed direction and lost the warg for a little and then shook me off before running off again, leading them away. I ran back here and you know the rest." Thorin said. "He never should have done it. I'm going to kill that warg next time I see it." Thorin growled and they heard a very, very soft whimper.

Everyone looked down to Bilbo hoping he would wake. Thorin gently ran his hand over his head and kissed the top hoping to settle him which it did. Thorin sighed and looked at everyone.

"I think it would be best if everyone goes. He needs rest and we all could do with it. I will let you know when he wakes." Thorin said and everyone nodded.

Balin, Dwalin, Fili, Kili and Oin stayed behind as everyone left. Oin moved closer, knelt down and placed his hand on his head for a second before peaking under the blanket.

"I will be in a few hours to change these bandages."

"Thankyou Oin." Oin nodded and left. "What is it?"

"Uncle, Bilbo will be ok." Kili said hoping to raise his uncle's hopes.

"He will. Go get some rest the both of you."

Fili grabbed Kili's arm and led him out as Balin and Dwalin waited for the door to shut again. Thorin looked back at Bilbo and Balin knelt beside him.

"Thorin this isn't your fault. Bilbo did what he did to protect you. He obviously knew they were after him, so he did what he did to protect you."

"But he should have just continued to try and get back here. Not take them on, on his own."

"You would have done the same thing." Dwalin said and Thorin didn't reply for a few minutes.

"I can't lose him."

"You won't laddie. Beorn, Gandalf and Oin all seem to think he will pull through. He just needs rest." Balin said putting a hand on Thorin's shoulder.

"I don't care about the mountain. I just want Bilbo to wake up."

"Give him time. He'll wake when he is ready." Balin said. "We will be nearby if you need us."

Thorin thanked them and they left. Thorin sighed and leaned down and kissed Bilbo on the head again as more tears escaped and fell onto Bilbo's head. Thorin let out a sob and he kept his body curled around Bilbo's head as he cried. The fear he felt when he sensed Bilbo's pain and then seeing him held down by the white warg and then not moving after, rose up and he couldn't stop it.
