Author's Note: I finally finished this stupid chapter. Work has been really hectic so I've barely had time to work on this. I'm gonna be traveling a lot this week so I don't know when I'll be able to update. Thanks for sticking with it.
July 2005
Monica sighed as she slowly woke up, sunlight streaming through the window. She turned around slowly so that she could wrap her arms around Chandler.
"Morning," he mumbled against her lips as he kissed her lazily, still half asleep. He placed his hands on the small of her back so that he could pull her closer to him. She loved waking up like this. When it was early in the morning, it was still nice and quiet. Wait a second…it was quiet.
Monica suddenly bolted from the bed. "What time is it?'
"Probably close to seven," Chandler slowly rubbed his eyes. "Why do you…wait…"
They looked at each other for a moment before taking off and rushing out of the bedroom. They both reached the nursery and stood there in shock. Jack and Erica…were fast asleep.
"They slept through the whole night," Monica said. "Oh my god they slept through the whole night."
"I didn't think this day would ever come," Chandler said. "I didn't think that I would ever sleep again."
"Are you crying?"
"No!" Chandler said defensively. "I just got…something in my eye."
Monica had read nearly every baby book on the planet. She had practically gone through every website she could possibly find. It didn't matter. Her kids refused to sleep through the night. She and Chandler had basically accepted that they were never sleeping again. But finally, finally after so many months, neither one of them had to get up in the middle of the night.
"What do we do now?" Monica asked.
"I-I don't know," Chandler shrugged. "I didn't think we would actually get to this point."
"Do…do we wake them up?"
"No!" Chandler gasped. "What if they never go back to sleep again."
"It'll be like when Rachel woke up Emma from her nap and then she wouldn't stop crying," Monica realized. "We have to get as much done right now while they're still asleep!"
"Okay," Chandler said. "I'll go take a shower."
"I'll go make breakfast." Monica said and they both took off again.
Monica watched as Erica crawled over to where Chandler was sitting on the chair drinking his morning coffee before work. She could see the determination on her face. The twins were 14 months old now and were crawling everywhere. A few nights ago, Monica had walked into the nursery and saw that Jack had climbed out of his crib and was crawling over to Erica's, like he was going to teach her how to escape as well.
"Oh no," Monica had said. "You have to stay over here, Jacky."
She had picked him up and carried him over to his crib. After she had placed him back in the crib, she turned around…and saw Erica crawling towards the door.
"How…" Monica had stared while Erica continued crawling towards the door. "How did you do that?" She had quickly walked over and grabbed her daughter. Monica looked at her kids and realized that things were about to get a lot more difficult.
"What is it, Erica?" Chandler asked when she pulled on the leg of his pants.
"Up!" Erica demanded. Both Chandler and Monica stopped what they were doing and turned to look at Erica.
"What did you just say?" Chandler asked.
"UP!" Erica said louder.
"Oh my god!" Monica exclaimed. "Oh my god she just said her first word."
"Up! Up! Up!" Erica continued.
Chandler picked her up and spun her around.
"You are so smart!" Chandler said. "She already knows directions! Our daughter is a genius!"
"That's so great!" Monica said before turning to Jack. "Jacky did you see that?"
Jack just stared at and blinked slowly.
"Okay, I guess not." Monica said.
"He's just a man of few words," Chandler said. "Alright well it looks like I have to get ready for work."
He tried to place Erica back on the ground but she just angrily shouted, "UP!"
Chandler picked her up again. "I-I don't know what to do."
"I think you might have to take her to work with you," Monica laughed.
"Monica, I need to talk to you," Phoebe ran into the living room as soon as Monica opened the door. Monica looked at her confused before turning and seeing Rachel walk in behind Phoebe.
"Don't look at me," Rachel started. "She practically forced me into the cab and wouldn't tell me anything."
"Is Chandler here?" Phoebe asked.
"No, he's at work." Monica said.
"What about the twins, I don't want anyone else to know right now!"
"They're in the nursery right now," Monica said.
"Phoebe, Jack and Erica are like a year old, you think they're going to spill your secret?" Rachel asked.
"Of course they are!" Phoebe replied. "You can't trust babies to keep any secrets. You should have heard what Emma told me when she was a baby!"
"Wait, what?" Rachel asked.
"What secret are you talking about Pheebs?" Monica asked.
"I'm pregnant," Phoebe blurted out before covering her mouth. "Oh god, I haven't said it out loud before."
"Oh my god, Pheebs!" Rachel shouted as she and Monica hugged their friend tightly.
"Are you not excited about this Phoebe?" Monica asked.
"I am," Phoebe said. "I really am. I just wasn't expecting this and I haven't told anyone and I'm just scared I guess."
"Phoebe, you had three babies at the same time," Rachel said. "That right there makes you an expert."
"I know…it's just…how do I explain this?" Phoebe said. "I love the triplets, but you know, they were my brother's kids. They weren't my kids. This one is my kid. And what if it's more than one…again. I don't know if I can go through that again."
"Hey," Monica said. "No matter what happens, you know that we're all here for you Pheebs. You're like our sister."
"You know," Phoebe said. "I have a sister. I have a twin sister. You would think that would mean that we were close, but honestly, we've never gotten along…ever. I mean even as kids it felt like we would fight over everything. I mean do you know what it's like to have to share everything with someone else. I mean I even had to share a uterus with her! Do you know what that's like?"
"Uh…no."
"Well it's not fun," Phoebe said. "What I was trying to say is that I never got along with my sister, no matter how hard I tried. But when I found out that I was pregnant, I had no desire to tell Ursula anything about it. But I wanted to tell you two. You both are my sisters."
"Aww Pheebs!" Rachel said and hugged her tightly. Monica hugged them both. It had been so long since all three of them had spent time together. "Do you have names picked out yet?"
"Of course I have names picked out," Phoebe said. "Phoebe if it's a girl and Phoeb-o if it's a boy."
"Uh…honey," Rachel said. "Those are…great names…but what about something different for the boy."
"Yeah," Monica added. "What about something like Philip, instead?"
"Oh Philip! Yeah I like that one too!"
"How about I make some decaf coffee?" Monica asked. "It'll be like old times." And they spent the rest of the afternoon together on Monica's couch.
Monica stared at the ceiling while Chandler was talking about…something.
"Mon?" Chandler asked. "Are you okay?"
"Yeah," she said quickly. "I'm fine."
"Then what was I talking about?"
"Uh…computers?"
"Nice try," Chandler smirked. "What's going on?"
"Pheobe's pregnant." Monica said. "Don't tell her I told you. She hasn't even told Mike yet."
"That's great!" Chandler said. He then saw Monica's face fall. "That's not great?"
"No it is great!" Monica's voice cracked. "And I'm so happy for her. But after she left…all I could think about was how easy it was for her. How easy it was for Rachel and for Ross and…" She started to blink back tears.
"Oh honey," Chandler said and pulled her into his lap. "Come here."
She buried herself in his chest. "I'm just jealous. And then I feel guilty for being jealous."
"You shouldn't feel guilty about that," he said softly.
"I just thought that I had moved on and accepted that I can't get pregnant. But I guess that I haven't moved on. Not completely."
"And there's nothing wrong with that," Chandler said as he ran his fingers through her hair.
"I just…I love Jack and Erica. I love them more than anything. But…it still hurts," Monica sighed. "I don't know."
"I know," Chandler said as he brushed his lips against her forehead. "I'm sorry."
"It's not your fault."
"It's kinda my fault."
"No it's not," she said more firmly. She placed her hand on his cheek and kissed him slowly. Eventually she fell asleep in his arms.
A few weeks later, Monica was playing with the twins as Chandler walked through the door and placed his briefcase on the table.
"Hi, honey!" He greeted her before greeting the twins. As he turned to walk into the kitchen, he turned too quickly and hit his knee hard against the coffee table.
"Fuck!" the word fell out of his mouth as he grabbed onto his knee. Monica stood up to go check on him when she heard something.
"Fuck!" Monica and Chandler turned slowly, realizing that Jack had just said his very first word.
"Oh no," Chandler said. "Please tell me he didn't actually say that."
"No, no, no." Monica said quickly to her son. "No honey you can't say that word."
"FUCK!" he said again, louder this time.
"Did I really just teach him his first word?" Chandler asked and covered his face with his hands.
"FUCK! FUCK! FUCK!" Now Erica was laughing and clapping her hands.
Monica just started laughing. "I can't wait to tell everyone what our son's first words were."
"Maybe we can just tell them that his first word was duck," Chandler said.
"Oh really," Monica said as she picked up Jack. "What do you say, Jacky? Can you say duck?"
"FUCK!"
