The first time Theo glared at her, she flinched. When he walked away, she froze. And when he changed class seats, she cried.

Daphne noticed - Theo pointedly never looked up.

"His dad wants him to trap you in a betrothal contract." Daph whispered from the other side of the library shelf. "Sayng you've turned your back on Slytherins is safest."

"...he's playing the jilted lover."

"Yes."

A choked sob.
