"The Worst Days-Remind Me"
A pickup truck made its way along a lengthy road. The pouring rain that heavly dulled the vibrant greens, oranges, and yellows of the scenic countryside, the atmosphere inside the vehicle was filled with somber tranquility matching the outdoors. The radio emitted the soothing sounds of country music, creating a gentle backdrop for the journey.
Seated in the driver's seat was a stunning red-haired woman, her attire exuding a unique blend of bohemian leather and denim, reminiscent of a biker. Her eyes occasionally shifted towards the passenger beside her, a young man draped in one of her old jackets layered over a comfortable hoodie.
The soft, red-colored jacket, a relic and gift from his father, seemed to grow alongside him, carrying a unique scent. It served as a source of solace and comfort during moments of despair and confusion.
Lately, these moments had become more frequent, evident from his pensive silence. Though he never explicitly voiced it, he carried the weight of blame upon himself, regardless of the reassurances she offered. The burden he bore weighed heavily on his soul, overshadowing any semblance of respite or peace.
Kushina observed her pup's troubled state of mind, which deeply saddened her. Seeing him no longer his cheerful and mischievous self, she decided to break the prolonged silence. "You did good, Naruto. You made the right choice by helping that girl. Those delinquent shits deserved every broken bone," she expressed, her words coming from the depths of her heart. As his mother and as a woman, she felt immensely proud of her son for his actions.
While it is common for wolves to exhibit protectiveness and loyalty towards their pack and friends, Naruto possessed a natural inclination to protect those who were unable to defend themselves. His kind-hearted nature was evident. If Kushina hadn't known for certain that she was the one who gave birth to him, she might have mistaken him for a sheepdog rather than a werewolf.
The thought of him being a giant golden retriever almost made her laugh, but she quickly suppressed it, considering their current situation. Her son's actions were completely justified, but unfortunately, they had led to another relocation after finally settling in for almost a year.
She had managed to outsmart the cultists who had been searching for him since birth, leading them to a dead end in Colorado before this latest move. However, with her son's recent incident resulting in six other teenagers being hospitalized, she couldn't afford to let the story spread too far, nor could he remain there for long after an incident.
Ultimately, her priority was ensuring his safety and keeping him out of harm's way, but she couldn't help but worry about the turbulence he had already experienced in his young life. Naruto shifted uncomfortably in his seat, gazing out the window as the rain poured down, further dampening his mood. "I get it Mom, but now we had to leave again because I went too far."
While he found some joy in helping others, his actions often drew excessive attention, a fact he was well aware of due to his mother's warnings. On top of that, he had the added burden of concealing his identity as a werewolf from friends that he had made it wasn't unheard-of for outcasts to conceal their more other worldly attributes not knowing what danger they could cause , but those who sought him and his mother out it was imperative to keep a low profile.
Thoughts of his father crossed his mind, reminding him of the dangers he faced. As he reached up, his fingers brushed against the delicate jade and gold amulet necklace that adorned his neck.
Not only was the necklace aesthetically pleasing, but it also served as a means to hide from the cult that relentlessly pursued him because of his father's legacy. Thankfully, his father had taken precautions to ensure that his child would not become a pawn in their plans. The trinket effectively suppressed the dormant side of his lineage, allowing him to elude their grasp. However, this only added to the weight of guilt he carried and intensified his fear of forming close relationships.
Looking back, he was always causing some kind of trouble, meddling where he shouldn't have, resulting in his expulsion from multiple schools or being withdrawn when his mother caught wind of people looking for him due to his actions being too excessive.
School admissions were already a hassle at times, but fortunately, his mother had connections and a substantial amount of money from previous investments to smooth things over, whether it was through falsified documents or private tutoring.
However, the outcome was always the same; he was constantly on the run.
Noticing that her son was lost in thought, she reached out and gently wrapped her fingers around his, pulling his hand away from the amulet. "My courageous boy, you have to understand that this is necessary to protect you. Leaving that school was unfortunate, but it was also a blessing in disguise. Starting fresh at Nevermore Academy will be wonderful. You'll be surrounded by peers your own age who are just like you," she said, shaking his hand slightly, causing him to shift a bit in his seat.
His guilt still emanated from him, even as he nodded his head lightly, attentively listening to his mother's words.
"You didn't choose for any of this to happen. You already have so much to deal with, being so young. And I'm damn sure I'm going to put a stop to it... but I need to know you're safe when I do," she said, giving his hand a gentle squeeze.
"But why can't I help? I'm strong enough, aren't I?" She couldn't help the small smile that crept onto her face. Even though he knew he was the one being hunted, he was more concerned about her than himself. "Honey, we don't know what they have from that night that could be used against you. They managed to pull your father here. There's no telling what they have concocted to use on you," she said. As much as it warmed her heart, she wasn't willing to let him be caught off guard, no matter the cost to herself.
Naruto nodded quietly, his expression still downcast, as he was about to resume gazing out the window. However, his mother gently caught his chin, making him look back at her. "No more of this running crap," she said cheerfully, a small smile appearing on Naruto's face at the thought of what Nevermore could offer him. "You'll have friends that you won't have to leave, people your age to talk to, and sports where you can let loose. Just try not to break anyone... too badly." she was met with a snort of a laugh.
"And hopefully, you'll find a nice girl there too. I bet the girls will be falling all over themselves, chasing after my handsome little man," she added with an impish smile, her focus shifting back to the road completely as they approached a turn.
Naruto's mind slowly cleared of the doom and gloom, and he began to process what his mother had just said. "What?"
A larger smile spread across her face as she listened to his reaction before she reached over, pinching his cheek a bit. "I bet that knowing how you are, she's gonna be a cream puff or meaner than all hell," she chuckled, amused by the bewildered expression on her son's face.
"You know, women are naturally attracted to strength and confidence when courting. Your amulet helps with the other aspect, but only to a certain extent. If you happen to find yourself a little lady friend, there better not be any grandbabies, so behave, fuzzums!" she said, playfully teasing her son. She didn't have to wait long for his indignant squawk. "MOM!?"
The somber atmosphere in the vehicle was shattered as they continued driving for the last few hours, both of them feeling happier than they had at the beginning of the journey.
Arriving at Nevermore, Naruto couldn't help but gaze in awe at the majestic architecture of the building. It appeared far older than he had anticipated, yet it remained in pristine condition.
As they came to a halt, Naruto's attention was immediately drawn to a towering figure, beckoning them from beneath an umbrella. The sheer strength exuded by the man left Naruto wondering just what the hell he was eating. Nevertheless, the man greeted them with a stoic yet cheerful demeanor.
"Uzumakis, I presume?" he said, extending a warm welcome. "Welcome to Nevermore Academy, young man. And welcome back, Ms. Uzumaki. I'm Chris Redfield, the boys' dorm father and training coach."
Both Naruto and his mother extended their hands to shake Chris Redfield's hand as they exited the vehicle. Naruto's mother, mindful of the rain, opened her umbrella and tightly held onto her bag, while Naruto pulled his hood over his head.
While shaking Naruto's hand, Chris noticed that the boy's grip was surprisingly firm for a fourteen-year-old. "You need to tell me your workout routine," the young teen said, his expression dead serious.
A raspy chuckle escaped Chris as he gently patted the boy on the shoulder. "We're going to get along great, kid," he said. Kushina joined in, chuckling "Thank you, Chris. It seems like my son has already taken a liking to you," she said, pleased to witness her son already being distracted and pulled out of his funk.
With a small smirk, Chris nodded his head. "Let's get you both to the Dean's office," he said, guiding them into the building. As they moved through the halls, they encountered various students. Some greeted Chris while others swiftly abandoned their mischievous activities or conversations upon catching sight of him, fearing the consequences. Some students were even sent scurrying to class with a stern look from Chris, much to Kushina's amusement.
As they passed a few students, some remarked on the familiarity of the red-haired woman, particularly among the werewolf students. Kushina chuckled quietly to herself upon hearing a few of them. She then overheard a conversation among a group of female students who managed to catch a glimpse under Naruto's hood. One of them even managed to take a picture on her phone when he lifted his head to look at something—a piece of art on the wall accidentally showing more of his face than intended. The girl quietly squealed as she scurried over to her friends, and just like that, gossip began to spread.
She rolled her eyes at the familiar sound of sirens the gossipy little gill heads we're still the same seemed. Turning her gaze towards Naruto, she noticed his obliviousness to the attention he was receiving. He seemed content playing the role of a tourist, admiring the architecture and artifacts as they strolled through the school.
As they continued their journey through the building, they eventually came across a display case that caught the red-haired woman's eye. "Damn, this picture is still here," she exclaimed, standing in front of an old photograph featuring herself and her team members, surrounded by numerous trophies. "Oh, I still have that one," she added.
Curiosity piqued, Naruto joined her by the display case. He glanced around, spotting a few images of his mother scattered throughout. However, one particular person in a slightly faded picture captured his attention. The girl in the photograph possessed an otherworldly beauty that he struggled to put into words. With long raven hair and a natural elegance, even in the group victory picture, he couldn't help but be captivated by her features.
"Oh, so that's the kind of girls you like" snapping back to reality, Naruto heard his mother's voice off to his left. He looked at her and immediately gained a flat look on his face at the Cheshire grin she had. "Morticia and I were classmates, but I think she's been married for 15 or 20 years now, so you might be a bit late, but I heard she has a daughter" she said, chuckling. Naruto was suddenly very glad he still had his hood on after getting caught.
A sound that was somewhere between a chuckle and someone clearing their throat could be heard from Chris as he ushered them on.
"Alright, here we are." The group stood in front of two large doors, with a name placard embedded into the door to the right displaying "PRINCIPAL WEEMS". Naruto fought down the feeling of nervousness before he felt a hand fall onto his shoulder. "Come on, kiddo," his mother's voice said from behind him as he reached for one of the door handles.
Sitting in one of the chairs in front of Weems's desk, the first thought that crossed the blonde's mind was, "Damn, she's tall " he muttered gazing up at the towering figure of Principal Weems, who rose from her desk and exchanged pleasantries with his mother.
"You've gotten even taller," his mother exclaimed in a jovial tone, enveloping the initially surprised woman in a warm hug. The principal chuckled and reciprocated the embrace.
"It's been years since we've seen each other. Alumni definitely need to swing by more often, maybe even give some motivational speeches," Weems suggested as they let go of the hug.
"Sorry, things have been quite busy for me in the past couple of years, but at least I've come bearing gifts," the red-haired woman said, placing the bag she was carrying onto Weems's desk.
It was a pleasant experience for Weems to see a friend after such a long time, despite the unsettling news she had heard involving her, which even disturbed those who were considered outcasts. However, Kushina appeared to be unchanged, still embodying her familiar self, much to Weems' relief.
Weems turned her attention to the other person in the room, who was also wearing a hood. He sat quietly, albeit slightly slouched, with his elbows resting on the armrests of the chair. His fingers were intertwined, resting on his stomach. Suddenly, he let out a quiet exclamation of frustration, saying, "Ah, crap!" He swiftly sat up and removed his hood, allowing Weems to see his features in their entirety.
From what she could gather, it was evident that he would grow into a remarkably handsome young man. His features seemed to be developing in a way that hinted at a more angular appearance, yet he still retained traces of a youthful baby-face. His dark blond curly hair cascaded just past his ears. Weems couldn't help but be captivated by his stunning eyes, which possessed an intense dark turquoise color that almost appeared to emit a radiant glow as he looked up at her.
She doubted he did it intentionally, but he seemed to be one of those individuals who possessed a penetrating gaze, as if he could see right through you. Given what she knew about both of his parents, it might just be a plausible explanation. Extending her hand towards the young boy, she greeted him, "Welcome, Naruto. It is indeed a pleasure to make your acquaintance. Your mother has spoken highly of you."
He chuckled nervously, his grip tightening around her hand as they shook. "Thank you, Miss Weems. I've heard quite a bit about Nevermore from my mom. Hopefully, she hasn't exaggerated too much about me," he remarked. A dramatic gasp escaped his mother, interjecting, "Me? I would never engage in such embellishment! How could you even suggest such a thing about your own mother?" Naruto glanced at her, his expression flat, silently conveying his disbelief.
Weems couldn't help but smile at their bickering. Her friend was still the same as ever, and her son seemed to mirror her personality in some aspects. Oh great, two of them, she thought, shaking her head. She gestured for both of them to sit as she moved back around to her desk.
With a smile on her face, she opened one of the three folders on her desk, which contained Naruto's various school records. As she read through everything, her smile grew wider. He was an excellent student, with all A's and B's, volunteer credits, and participation in various after-school activities. Even some of his paperwork had comments from teachers and faculty from his past schools, some expressing their desire to have more students like him in their class, while others wished him luck.
He was a smart young man without a bad bone in his body, which was in stark contrast to the last folder she had to look over. "Naruto, your academic achievements are commendable. It's clear that you possess great potential," she praised the boy. He visibly showed a bit of embarrassment as his mother ruffled his hair, and he tried swatting her hand away, letting out an annoyed "eahhh" before flipping his hood back up.
She let out an amused sigh. It's terrifying how much they were alike. Before she moved on to the last file, "But this last bit we still need to go over, I'm afraid," Weems said as she went over Naruto's disciplinary records. She didn't notice the change in the boy's demeanor.
"Various detentions, even a few police reports from you being involved in a few more serious matters," she went on, still not noticing the demeanor of the other two in the room until a light kick to her desk and a quiet growl called her attention.
Looking up at Kushina, Weems immediately noticed the slight annoyance on her face and the brightness in her eyes as she gestured towards her son with a tilted nod of her head. Weems' gaze shifted towards her friend's son, realizing that his hood now completely concealed his face, and his posture had slumped once more. This was a sensitive issue, and Weems knew she had to do some damage control. Acting swiftly, she stood and made her way around her desk beside him.
Taking a knee next to the boy, Weems spoke in a soft tone, "Regardless of the existence of that folder, its contents include explanations from both teachers and the police. They acknowledge that while you were just a child involved in things could have gone terribly wrong. However, it's important to recognize that you have also made a significant positive impact on many people who were in need of help a few in dire need of it as well on some occasions." As she spoke, Weems gently reached up and pulled his hood back, seeing a look reminiscent of a sad puppy on his face making her feel a bit more guilty for having to go over the record with him but also cementing her decision on the matter .
"You will undoubtedly be a valuable addition to Nevermore, young man," she said, causing him to look at her. "Your disciplinary records do not reflect you as a troublemaker. Instead, they reveal a consistent pattern of defending others. You have a good heart, albeit a bit nosy. Nonetheless, it is a commendable quality, an honorable one at that."
The nervous pit in his chest eased, and he let out a sigh. "However, you must understand that there is a deep-seated animosity and history of conflict between Jericho and Nevermore. So, if anything happens, you can't act; just leave it to me and the faculty." Weems sighed, stood up, and moved back around to her desk, taking a seat.
"With that being said, welcome to Nevermore Academy, although unofficially, at least until your birthday. After that, you can fully join the rest of the campus. Chris will be responsible for chaperoning you and introducing you to your new teachers and tutors," Weems explained. While she was delighted to have him here, particularly considering his circumstances, she remained committed to adhering to the established rules.
"HA, you've got a babysitter," his mother exclaimed much to his annoyance. "Yes, Mom, I know" he responded, his voice carrying outside the room along with her laughter. Weems then resumed her conversation with Kushina and the new student.
After multiple goodbye hugs were exchanged, Kushina left Naruto to arrange his belongings in his new room. Reflecting on the opportunities that lie ahead, he couldn't help but reminisce about the last few times he had done this same thing. He still lingered for a moment.
Unpacking, there was a part of him that didn't want to bother with it after so many times he'd had to repack in his life. The option to leave some of the stuff in boxes felt like a good idea. Sighing, he shifted his focus to the smaller stuff until his eyes fell on two cases leaned against the wall.
Moving over in front of the different-sized cases, he pointed back and forth for a few seconds while humming a tune before it settled on the larger of the two. Picking it up, he moved over to the bed and sat down, laying the case next to him.
Weems assured him that there were quite a number of things that were still allowed for him to do, so why not try to relax? He thought as he undid the latches on the case and opened it.
An old guitar came into view, definitely his favorite of his two instruments, luck of the draw an a bit of favoritism this time he thought, carefully extracting it from the padding around it, plucked each string, listening for the tuning until his ear twitched and he cracked an eye open, focusing on the offending string.
Moving his free hand up the neck to the pegbox and tuning until the string resonated in the right pitch, he settled the guitar against his side and leg and began playing.
(smells like teen spirit -alexander misko)
Outside the room and down the hall, a violin could be heard playing, causing confusion to a few and enjoyment to others.
"Dude, is that teen spirit"
Enid sat on her bed, her music playing as she happily rocked to the beat of the music while painting her fingernails and toenails her favorite vibrant colors. Normally, she and her roomie would have done this together for fun, but unfortunately, she had to leave a few days ago due to a family emergency and probably wasn't due back for more than a few months, much to Enid's disappointment. With her friend having to go home, the day had gone by most uneventful, save for one fun bit of gossip about a new student an boy was a cutie-pie.
She looked over at her computer the had her blog open a picture on said boy in question it was a side view picture of him slightly turned and looking up while most of his face was hidden except for his chin, jawline lips an his nose for some reason if she did have a reason to have a list of favorite noses his shot to number one it was so boopable she thought with a giggle.
Outside her window, she could occasionally hear the wind blowing as the sky grew darker, her anticipation heightened, as well as her hope it wouldn't be a disappointment. It was the night of a full moon. At Nevermore Academy, all the werewolf students were granted the freedom to transform, to howl at their hearts' content whenever these nights came around.
She blew on her fingernails hoping to get them to dry faster as she stood up from her bed, making her way to the large window of her room, she watched as the clouds slowly cleared out revealing slowly rising moon and she almost bounced in place giddily she could feel tonight would be special she just really hope she wasn't hoping in vain unaware that across the courtyard the new student was having a similar feeling of excitement.
For the very first time in his life, Naruto felt the exhilaration of cutting loose and giving in to his suppressed instincts. His muscles twitch in anticipation from head to toe. He openes his window, feeling goosebumps on his skin as the clouds shifted across the moonlit sky.
As the moonlight bathed Naruto's surroundings, his heart raced in his chest. Stepping onto the balcony of his room, the echoes of howls from his other students began reverberated throughout the school, creating an atmosphere of unity and freedom for the students beholden to the moon's presence. He stepped out onto the balcony, not realizing he had walked into someone's line of sight from far across the yard.
Shiny ringlets of golden hair in the moonlight caught her attention as Enid focused on the figure in a red hoodie... wait, red hoodie. She looked back in her computer and then across the courtyard as she realized, "Oh my God, is that him?" she asked herself out loud in that moment, deciding to drop cutie pie from her description of him to "freaking gorgeous," even from this distance. She was able to focus on him especially when she opened the window and stepped outside into the moonlight, making tingles along her skin.
She continue to observe him as he didn't bother unzipping his jacket grabbing the back of it and pulling it over his head apparently along with his shirt, "...why was he that built who the hell is his dad Arnold Schwarzenegger" Enid said out loud something that probably should have been a inside thought while she looked him over, the moon casting its light highlighting some of his features as apparently the new guy was built like a swimmer who liked to go to the gym fairly often not overly buff but the framework was definitely there to turn it into that. she continued to I'll go him from afar before he leaned forward, gripping onto the railing of the balcony and a growl left him that she could hear from where she stood.
Naruto's bones began to crack and grow as his transformation took hold. In this moment, he was no longer confined by societal expectations or his own self-doubt. For once, he was able to let everything go.
The transformation continued as he grunted and growled, his body growing in size. Beautiful golden fur began to grow along Naruto's body. His clothing could no longer contain his expanding form, tearing apart as he delved deeper into his metamorphosis. His tattered pants fell away. With each passing moment, his muscles grew larger and denser, dwarfing his human state.
The transformation progressed, veins pulsating around his body, showcasing the immense power strain coursing through his body. He could feel his instincts taking over as his groans transformed into vicious growls. Rising to his full height, his broad body basked in the moonlight, exuding an aura of something wild as he breathed heavily, growls leaving with his breaths.
Unaware that someone's focus was entirely on him, as well as a few pictures being taken by the awestruck girl across the courtyard, he turned looking up at the building before he crouched an sprang upwards, his claws digging into the stone of the building, finding and creating grips for him to throw himself up higher up onto the roof. Over shooting the edge an landing with a heavy thud over the dorm rooms below him before taking off towards the highest spire. He leaped digging his claws into the shingles of the highest point of Nevermore and gripped the base of a lightning rod housed there.
The howls of the werewolf students around Nevermore Academy reached Naruto's ears, creating a haunting symphony that added to the intensity of the moment. His heart pounded in his chest as he drew in a deep breath, preparing for what was to come.
With a sudden burst of energy, Naruto threw his head back and let out a almost war cry of a howl that echoed through the night sky, silencing the other howls in the night. His powerful howl traveled from Nevermore Academy, reverberating all the way down to the town of Jericho, leaving an indelible mark on the town as a terrifying sound ripped through their homes.
Staff and students alike came to their windows seeing whatever the hell had made the sound before more and more of them manage to track it was by the growls looking up on the highest point of the roof in the large figure situated there before another ear ringing howl rang out in the night as the large golden Shaggy figure leaped from nearly three stories up.
Landing on the grass near the fountain, it sent a vibration from the impact, managing to shake a few things on the first floor before a growl ripped through the air, the Behemoth of a golden werewolf stood from the small crater almost as tall as the tree in the middle of the fountain once he stepped out of it, shakeing his head growling a bit before he turned towards the forest . Suddenly, he took off, crouching down onto all fours, letting out another growl as he disappeared into the tree line. The sounds of branches snapping and tree bark being sliced slowly faded into the night.
Up in her office, Dean Weems watched the spectacle before she sighed, pinching the bridge of her nose. "Oh dear, he's going to be worse than his mother".
An with that ya stinkie pickles thats the end of chap 1 I hope yall like an stuf
