Despicable Me: Dinosaur For A Day
One morning, the girls were at the museum with Lucy in a dinosaur exhibition. Dinosaurs were prehistoric animals that lived millions of years ago. Edith liked the look of the dinosaurs. Some had spikes, others had horns or wings, many had very long tails. Some were very fierce and vicious. She closed her eyes and tried to imagine what they were like. The dinosaurs had huge and long names to match their sizes. Edith looked at the Therizinosaurus. It had enormous claws and a large belly for foliage processing. As Margo and Agnes walked ahead after Lucy, a hand reached out and patted Edith on the shoulder making her jump. A huge scaly hand with a spiked thumb! The Therizinosaurus was alive! It picked up Edith and cradled her in its arms rocking backwards and forwards.
The Therizinosaurus made Edith some lunch. She ate a leaf sandwich, a bunch of daisies, a twig snack bar and drank a bottle of dinosaur juice that was bright green. It tasted strange but Edith liked it. The Therizinosuars wiped her mouth in a motherly way. ''Edith, where are you?'' came the sound of Lucy's voice. Edith jumped down quickly and the Therizinosaurs shot back into its place just in time before Lucy, Margo and Agnes saw it. ''Keep up Edith'' said Lucy, ''Or we'll lose you!'' She checked her watch, ''Time for lunch girls'' she said. In the museum canteen, Edith didn't eat as much as her mom and her sisters.
Before they went home, they stopped by the gift shop to buy souvenirs of books, stickers and model dinosaurs. As they were driving home, Edith was very quiet. ''Are you feeling sick Edith?'' asked Lucy worriedly. Edith wasn't sick, but she did feel strange. After dinner, Edith wanted to get ready for bed straight away much to everyone's surprise. Even after a bath, her skin felt strange now, hard dry and itchy. Edith sniffed and licked her fingers, they tasted strange too. She went to sleep and had some very strange dreams. The next morning, Edith woke up, to her surprise, her bed and even the whole room seemed to have shrunk in the night! She to cram her knees up to her chin. Edith rubbed her eyes and blinked. The bedroom hadn't shrunk, she had grown!
She had a long back, long legs, a long swishy tail and a big bloated belly. Edith wondered what to do. She decided to tell her parents. She had to bend right down to get out of her bedroom and then again to get into Gru and Lucy's bedroom. ''Mom! Dad!'' she said. Gru slowly sat up in bed, he screamed when he woke up and saw Edith, that woke Lucy up too. ''Lucy! There's a dinosaur in our bedroom!'' yelled Gru as he reached for his freeze ray. ''Mom! Dad! It's me, Edith. I'm a dinosaur. It feels a bit scary'' said Edith. ''Gru! Stop! It's really our middle daughter'' hissed Lucy, ''Its voice sounds just like Edith's''. Gru stopped in his tracks, it was a bit scary for him too. He could see the huge dinosaur was wearing what was left of Edith's pink onesie after it had torn apart during her transformation.
It also had her blonde hair and striped pink chullo and Gru could hear the dinosaur talking in Edith's voice too. But of course no one expect Edith herself knew about the dinosaur juice that had made it happen. With her new size and huge stomach, Edith was terribly greedy at breakfast. She ate a whole loaf of bread in one gollop and finished a jar of apricot jam with one lick. ''Hey!'' said Margo, ''I wanted some of that for my toast! It's my favourite jam!''. ''Don't worry Margo'' said Lucy, ''We can buy some more apricot jam at the superstore''. ''Well I'm a growing girl'' said Edith giggling. She used the big clothes brush to clean her teeth after breakfast. ''How are we going to feed our family now?'' asked Dru, ''Money doesn't grow on trees, what if Edith eats us out of house and home?''.
Luckily as a dinosaur, Edith liked eating trees. Well, the leaves and the smaller snapper branches at least and privet hedges taste delicious to dinosaurs too. Everyone got their hedges trimmed and trees pruned for nothing. All the same Lucy was worried about her daughter's sake. She took Edith to the doctor hoping to find a cure for what she thought was an unknown curse. At the surgery, Dr Mediano listened to Edith's big dinosaur stomach with her stethoscope and heard sloshing noises. ''Hmm, that's unusual'' said Dr Mediano, then she listened to Edith's heart only to find it sounded very different from a normal human heartbeat. ''Odder and odder'' she said. ''So how is she doctor?'' asked Lucy. ''I think you'd better take her to a vet'' replied Dr Mediano.
Lucy was baffled but agreed to do so anyway. On the way-out Edith did a bit of doctoring herself. She cured a baby's hiccups and made a old lady's bad leg better. Lucy took Edith to the vet. After watching Edith eat the leaves off a plant, the vet said ''Well she's certainly got a healthy appetite. I don't think there's anything wrong with her''. ''In that case you can still go to school Edith'' said Lucy. At the school, Edith caused a bit of fuss going through the school gates. Lucy had to have a few words with Edith's teacher, Miss Dawlish who wasn't sure she could cope with this new Edith. ''It's ok Miss Dawlish, I'll try to be good'' promised Edith. She tried hard to be good in the now very crowded classroom. But when Edith got board, she flicked her new long tail a little which caused a bit of bother.
At recess, everyone wanted to play with Edith. ''Who wants a ride on my tail?'' she asked. Margo, Agnes, Jessica, Joshua and many of their other friends all wanted a ride. ''Edith's better than Disneyworld!'' thrilled Margo. ''And Super Silly Fun Land'' added Agnes. Edith even gave Miss Dawlish a ride! After school, Edith helped Gru to clean the windows on the house by having him climb up her long back to reach the higher ones. In fact when the neighbours saw how useful Edith was, they wanted her to help clean the higher windows on their houses too and paid Gru to have him use his unique ladder. Later the Gru family went to Oceans Universe. There wasn't much pool water left in the wave pool after Edith jumped in!
She made a great water fountain though. When it was time to get changed again and go home, it took Lucy a very long time to get Edith properly dry. On the way home, they stopped to have a fish fry for dinner. ''Yummy!'' said Edith rubbing her big bloated stomach. She also had some leaves and a bit of grass. It wasn't easy to tuck Edith into bed that night. But she fell asleep. When Edith woke up the next morning, she found she was a little girl again. But she still had a nearly full bottle of dinosaur juice.
