Clive closes his eyes, the last thing he saw was the moon high up in the sky. He felt terrible he broke his promise to Jill, he couldn't move anymore. Clive felt the curse running through his body, he knew his time was up.

'Joshua, I'll be right there.' He whispered. He was glad Jill was safe at last, Bearers, Non-Bearers, they will be equal at last. Feeling tired, he gives in to the darkness.

'Clive. Wake up.'

'Joshua?' Feeling warmness, he opened his eyes to see a beautiful sight.

The ghost of Joshua was smiling down at him.

"It's over, we are now freed."

"Yes we are." What Clive didn't expect was Joshua touching his face. "Joshua?"

"I waited so long for this." Joshua caresses Clive's face. "For years I dreamed of seeing you again." He stares lovingly down at his brother's face. "The Phoenix is no more. It no longer controls our destiny." He leans down towards Clive's lips. "It's time to wake up, my First Shield."

If Clive was sleepy before, he was wide awake now. His eyes widened as he felt those soft lips.

Joshua was kissing him softly and tenderly. His eyes were closed in contentment, he was holding Clive's face as he kissed his mouth.

"Joshua? What are you..." He shut up when Joshua held a finger to his lips.

"Shh."

Clive didn't know what to think. He admitted he didn't mind the kiss but from his own brother? Reluctantly he pushed Joshua away.

"Joshua." A disappointed Joshua was looking down at him.

"What? Every fairytale ends with the prince waking up his true love."

Clive blinked. Joshua chuckled.

"We're freed, truly freed. No longer Bearers, no longer Dominants, no longer Lords. Hell, Cid is dead. No offense." Joshua heard countless stories about Clive's late best friend.

"None taken." He saw the sunrise. "The sky." Everything was back to normal. The forbidding purple sky was gone.

"You saved the world. You saved us. Brother." Joshua stands up and offers his hand. "We are free men. We could do anything we want."

Clive stares up at his brother. The blood that was on his lips was gone, the paleness of his brother's skin was no more. Joshua's colour was coming back.

"My brother." Clive takes Joshua's hand. But instead of taking it, Clive kisses it. "My Lord."

Joshua smiles down at his protector. When Clive looked up, Joshua gestured with his free hand.

"As your former Lord, you are freed from your duties. Lord Rosfield, we are equals now. You no longer need to be my First Shield." He reverses the Knight's Sworn Duty Gestures. "You are hereby relieved of your duties."

"Thank you." He winked. Once he got up, he saw Joshua staring at his hand. "It's nothing." The curse was taking away Clive's hand.

"Then there's no time to waste. Come my brother, I have a boat waiting for us."

Clive watches as the Rosarian Shore fades further and further away.

"Father, you think he watches over us?"

"I like to think he does." Joshua hands Clive a mug of hot cider. "When I was lying on that ground, I heard his voice, cheering you on." Joshua watches wistfully at their former home getting smaller. He sips his own mug, the hot liquid going down his throat.

"I don't know how you survived, the Phoenix cannot bring back the dead." Joshua was dead, Clive was sure of it.

"It cannot, usually. But maybe it felt sorry for me." Joshua sighs. "I didn't want to lose you, not when I just found you." Joshua felt the Phoenix's power waking him up, Clive's love must've brought him back. "You promise not to leave me again?" He smiled when Clive held him closer, his cider spilling over Joshua's clothes.

"Never." He looked at his baby brother. "I will always be your First Shield." He kisses his lips.

"What about Jill?" Once they stop kissing. Joshua squashed down the jealousy, he knew how much she loved Clive. "My clothes." The cider was all over him.

Clive sighs. He made a promise to come back.

"It's a new day for us." He carefully adjusted the empty mug, he couldn't move it to his other arm, not with his stump. "The future isn't written yet."

"Let me take that. Your arm needs to heal." They went to a doctor to bandage Clive's arm, they made up an excuse Clive was a wounded soldier. The curse, they didn't want anyone tracking them down.

"Thank you Joshua." The shore was now gone, Cid was no longer needed in the world. "It's getting cold, let's go inside." He saw Joshua shivering.

Clive holds Joshua as he sleeps in his arms, their discarded clothing lying in heaps on the floor. He kisses his brother's head, they spent most of the night making up for lost time.

"Goodbye Jill. Goodbye, Torgal." Clive whispered. He silently said the rest of his goodbyes to everyone he left behind. He didn't know where they were going, all Joshua said was that they were heading to an unknown land, a land not cursed by the Blight. Joshua said that it was ignored by Ultima, He/They didn't put any Mothercrystals on any of its shores. He theorized Ultima wanted nothing to do with it because He believed the land wasn't strong enough to heal His species.

"Ultima was a fool. He could've been totally revived, Valisthea would've been His long ago. If only He listened to His people." Joshua was getting ready for bed with Clive. "He didn't need Mythros. If only He had waited." Their old clothing was no longer available, they got rid of them at Joshua's insistence. Their clothing was plain, Joshua and Clive needed to blend in. Joshua sighs as Clive holds him in his arms.

"Fuck him." He was no longer Ultima's pet. "He took you away from me. He will be forgotten soon enough." He squeezes Joshua closer. "The bed is getting cold."

Torgal stands on the shoreline of Rosaria's beach. He was looking sadly out of the sea.

"I know. I miss him too." Jill was here at Byron's coronation. As the new Lord of Rosaria, he and his loyal advisors were holding meetings to help the remaining nations elect new leaders. She already accepted Clive's death, although it broke her heart. His clothing, the late Elwin Rosfield's uniform was the last thing Clive left behind, the ocean already taking away Clive's remains.

"Awooooo!" Torgal howled. He sensed his former masters, they were far away from here.

"Don't cry." Jill sniffed. Clive, Joshua, Cid. They were all gone. "Let's go, boy. Byron, he is expecting us at the feast." Jill blows a silent kiss at the ocean. They walk away, but not before Torgal wags his tail. "Torgal?"

Torgal barks at the sea. Joshua, Clive, they were alright. Sensing Jill's confusion, he trots by Jill's side.

"What is it?"

Torgal shakes his head. Clive and Joshua were together now, never being apart ever again. He follows Jill back to the Capital, keeping his promise to keep Jill and her family safe.
