Chapter 30 – Fairytale

First week of December 2002.

Busy, busy, busy.

That was all that Jason and Kimberly were feeling. So were their friends and family, truth be said. Wedding preparations were truly underway.

Kimberly and Jason had decided to get married as soon as they possibly could. For a number of reasons.

They did not want to make Christmas an even more hectic affair, so they wanted to get married before the holiday. Kimberly also wanted to spend this Christmas as Jason's wife. Naturally, he felt the same.

Another reason, Kimberly was pregnant. And only the power rangers knew about this. You could also count Alpha as one of the select people who knew. Alpha was of course, not a person. But a robot. However, Alpha did know.

Jason and Kimberly did not want to get married when the pregnancy was painfully obvious. Right now was the perfect time. You could not see Kimberly's tiny baby bump. Unless she took her clothes off and you went as close as you possibly could to her. Only then, could you tell. And of course, nobody except Jason would get that close to her. She could wear a wedding dress and still look phenomenal in one. So it was important to get the wedding underway quickly.

This did however mean, that all of the planning, booking and finalising would have to happen over a very short space of time in order for Kimberly to have her dream wedding. This would have go be a team effort.

Trini, Tanya and Kat would be working together to act as wedding planners to help alleviate some of the pressures off of Jason and Kimberly.

Their wedding was going to be in winter and close to Christmas. So they wanted it to have a bit of a Christmas feel. It was going to be mainly a red and pink themed wedding, with flashes of gold, white and green to assist with the Christmassy ambience.

Kimberly worked at a florists. So her colleagues would be taking care of all of the flowers and bouquets.

Billy and his partner Dan, would be assisting with the decorations, lighting and accessories.

Rocky, Adam and Zack were given the bride and groom's preferred menu, and they were tasked with finding the right caterer with the best price and quality. The guys also had to sort out Jason's bachelor party. Jason insisted on not having one but the lads would not take no for an answer. Even Billy who was usually the reserved, quiet one.

Jason and Kimberly's parents were to make the guest list and do the invites. The soon-to-be husband and wife had drawn out a list of the people they wanted. So he parents just had to do the rest.

Trini, Tanya and Kat were to oversee everyone and make sure everything was running smoothly. Kat had come back to Angel Grove a little earlier than Tommy, as Tommy would only be able to make it a couple of days before the wedding. The three ladies were working together to make sure everything would go according to plan.

Kimberly's mother had already booked her flight and would be coming back to Angel Grove in the next day or two. Karen Lucien, as she was now known as, was beyond excited. She knew what happened in Florida in the 90s between her daughter and Jason. She had even flown out see her daughter when she stopped sending her letters, back when things went awry with Kimberly and Jason.

Karen told her back then, she believed Jason was the one for her and that he would come back one day. So when Kimberly called her and told her that Jason was back in her life, Karen was not surprised at all. But she sure was thrilled. She wanted to come to Angel Grove when Kimberly and Jason moved back. But Kimberly told her to wait... Until their wedding!

And now that they decided to get married earlier than expected. The first thing Karen did, was book a flight to America. She wanted to be there for her daughter. She wanted to help her plan the wedding. She wanted to make sure that everything was going to be perfect for her only daughter. Karen Lucien was also a famous hairstylist. So who better to prepare Kimberly's hair and makeup than her own mother?

Everything was going to plan.

Kimberly knew exactly where she wanted the wedding to take place. Though, was scared that availability might be an issue. But luckily, there was a cancellation and Jason and Kimberly had just managed to book the beautiful garden of an upscale hotel for their wedding. They had to pay a bit extra due to short notice. But Jason wanted Kimberly's dream wedding to come true.

"It's ours!" Kimberly screamed with glee once they got into their car. "I can't believe we're having our wedding here!"

They had managed to secure this famous garden for their wedding. They were lucky that California had a season-less, sunny climate year round. Even December was generally mild, so an outdoor wedding was more than possible.

Kimberly did not even wait for Jason to sit down properly before she slid the driver's seat backwards, jumping into his lap, kissing him excitedly.

Jason kissed her back and his lips stretched into a big smile. "I take it you're happy?"

"I'm more than happy! Thank you so much baby." Kimberly stared into his eyes and pushed her forehead onto his. They just stayed there silently in that position. Closing their eyes, happiness taking over their bodies and souls.

Jason had been working very hard. Saving up as much money as he could. It really did help that he worked for one of the biggest dojos in California. Sensei Taylor, who was a family friend, was helping as much as he could.

Jason's father, Mason, was very persistent with helping Jason out for the wedding. Jason didn't want to depend on his dad for everything though, and was trying his best to persuade his father to let him chip in, it was not an easy task.

"What else is on the list for today?" Jason whispered, breaking their happy silence.

Kimberly pulled back slightly and took out a little list from the back pocket of her light blue jeans.

"We need to visit some bakeries, make sure we get our perfect wedding cake." Kimberly said, tracing her finger down the piece of paper. "That's really it. Everything else, we do separately. Like getting the dress and suit."

"Why can't we get them together though?" Jason asked.

Kimberly frowned a little. "You know its tradition. I don't want you seeing my dress until I'm walking down that aisle."

"Okay. Fair enough." Jason responded, starting the car. "Which bakeries are we going to then?"

Kimberly shifted back into the passengers side, smiling up at her husband-to-be. "Well, there's a few I want to try. It can't be too expensive though. We just need to find the right one."

Jason smiled back at the beautiful woman next to him. Still surprised but over the moon that she was going to be his wife. "Okay. Let's go."

The next day

"I can't see her." Kimberly craned her head around the incoming rush of people piling out of arrivals at Angel Grove International Airport.

"Don't worry. She'll be here." Jason reassured his fiancé.

"Why is she taking so lon-" Kimberly halted mid-sentence and jumped up excitedly as she spotted the person she was longing to see. "Mom!" She screamed.

Karen looked up at her daughters voice, and ran over to her, leaving her husband stranded with all the bags. Karen ran past the rest of the passengers and the mother and daughter wrapped each other in a tight embrace.

"Oh Kimberly. I have missed you so much baby girl." Karen pressed her daughters head into her shoulder and kissed her cheek.

"I've missed you too mom."

Karen hesitantly let go of her daughter and looked up at Jason who was stood there with a big smile on his face.

"Jason Scott. How lovely to see you again." Karen smiled and walked up to him, pulling him into a big hug.

"It's great to see you again Karen." Jason replied, thinking back to the conversation he had with Kimberly in the car on their way over to the airport. She reminded him not to call her mother Mrs. Hart. Something that he was so used to. He had two options. He could call her Karen, or Mrs. Lucien.

Karen stepped back and watched as Kimberly and Jason stood next to each other, holding hands.

"I always knew you would make the cutest couple. I always knew!" Karen brought her hands up to her chin, intertwining her fingers, admiring the couple.

"Bonjour Kimberly." Karen's husband, Jean Pierre Lucien finally arrived, carrying all of their luggage. Jason rushed over to help him while he shook hands with Kimberly.

"Hello Jean-Pierre. It's nice to see you again." Kimberly smile brightly at her stepfather.

"It is most delightful to see you again Kimberly. This wonderful young man must be Jason. Oui?"

"Hello sir. It's lovely to finally meet you." Jason said, shaking hands with Kimberly's stepfather.

"Oh no, the pleasure is all mine." Jean Pierre replied. His rich, fruity voice complimenting his strong Parisian accent. "I have heard quite a lot of positive things from Karen."

Jason blushed and glanced over at Karen and Kimberly who were smiling up at Jason as though he was the second coming of Jesus Christ.

"Thank you sir. It will be nice to get to you know." Jason said, easily swinging a luggage bag around his shoulder and picking up one of the three suitcases.

"No please. No need for titles. I am just Jean-Pierre." The French-man ran a hand through his curly, shiny hair that fell elegantly, but barely onto his shoulders.

"Well Jean-Pierre, Karen, follow me. Your hotel is a short drive away from here.. If you need anything, a coffee, some lunch, let us know."

Off they went. Jean Pierre sitting in the passengers side getting to know Jason whilst Karen and Kimberly had some overdue mother and daughter time. Kimberly was so happy, finally being able to spend some time with her mother. Her smile stretching from ear to ear.

Karen glanced at Jason and her husband at the front chatting away, and lowered her voice, holding her daughter's hand. "Look baby. You know you can tell me anything right?"

Kimberly furrowed her brows a touch and squeezed her mother's hand. "Yeah mom..." What was this about, she wondered.

"It's just.. You look different." Karen lowered her voice even more. "Very radiant."

"Mom."

Karen shook her head a little. "You don't have to explain anything baby girl."

Kimberly's mouth suddenly became very dry. Did her mother know that she was pregnant. She did not dare pursue the subject in case she gave it away unnecessarily.

"Anyway." Karen did Kimberly a favour and moved the conversation. "Do you have an idea of what wedding dress you want? I want to go look for it as soon as possible. I want my daughter to look absolutely fabulous on her special day."

Kimberly's smile returned and she went into detail about every little thing she wanted. From her hair to her attire.

Jason and Kimberly had just dropped off Karen and Jean-Pierre at the hotel and were on their way back to their apartment.

Karen and her husband were going to get settled in, go out for a bit of shopping with Jason and Kimberly and then have dinner together with them at Jason's parent's house. Karen could not wait. It had been a while since she last saw her old friend Jean Scott. She was beyond ecstatic that the Scotts were soon going to become a part of her family.

It was now evening time. And the cool evening breeze brought along some more success.

Kimberly had managed to book the perfect wedding dress!

A stunning, long sleeve, lace, mermaid wedding dress. It wasn't too loose and neither was it too tight. It highlighted Kimberly's hourglass figure but was also loose enough to hide any possible pregnancy bumps.

Jason and Kimberly, along with Kimberly's mother and stepfather had arrived at the Scotts house to a jubilant reception. Karen and Jeanette immediately embraced and ran off together to catch up, joined by Kimberly who was at the centre of the conversation. Karen couldn't think of a better family for Kimberly to marry into.

This left the three men to get acquainted with each other. Jean Pierre was so intrigued and taken by the Scotts house. He was a rather famous painter back in France. And he had a lovely house. But the style and sheer size of the Scotts house was something to behold.

Mason Scott being an architect and in construction for most of his life, had spent years modifying and adding things to his house. And it was practically double the size it was when Jason was a kid. The back yard was like a football pitch. That was something Jean Pierre was not accustomed to. European gardens were not as big. Especially if you lived in the city.

They all had a fantastic meal together. Chatting away, covering the finer details of the wedding and just simply enjoying each other's company. It had been a while since Karen had been in this house.

It wasn't until halfway through dessert (a traditional, patriotic apple pie), that something happened which interrupted the feeling of jubilance.

Mr. Scott had left the table due to a knock on the front door.

When he returned, it was difficult to read his expression. Nervousness, worry, trepidation... However, this did not last for too long.

"Dad!" Kimberly exclaimed.

Mr. Hart barely looked around the room. He smiled at his daughter and his eyes immediately landed on his former wife and the handsome man set next to her, a spoon of apple pie and ice cream halfway between the plate and his mouth.

"Karen." He nervously mumbled.

"David."

There was a moment of nervous, silent tension that lingered longer than it needed to.

It was thankfully broken by Mrs. Scott. "Take a seat David. I'll fix you up a plate."

"No thanks Jeanette. I have to get going." Mr. Hart glanced over at his ex wife before tentatively eyeing Jason and Kimberly. "I just popped in to talk to you about some umm, wedding plans." David let out a wry smile. "But with these two here, I can't say much."

"We're just having dessert dad and we'll be off soon." Kimberly said, glancing up at her father.

"Yes, so you're staying and we're going to fix you some dinner." Mason stubbornly said, ensuring David could not revoke this offer.

Mr. Hart ended up staying. The atmosphere certainly wasn't unpleasant. But it had definitely changed. Kimberly's parents hadn't seen each other in years. So there was some understandable tension.

As Jeanette hurried back to the kitchen to get David some food, Karen, to David's surprise, asked to talk to David in private. Mason suggested the den and off they went.

It seemed like something she had planned. As Jean-Pierre was not surprised at all.

They reached the den that was just behind the dining room. The very same den in which around twenty five years earlier they had spent their first night in Angel Grove. The very same den from which they had to pry their daughter away and go to their new house.

They both entered the room and felt the memories rushing back. But this was not the time to reminisce.

"How are you David?" Karen broke the silence as they mirrored each other and slumped against a wall, their feet firmly on the floor.

"I'm good. How are you Karen?" David asked. Not looking at his ex wife.

"Good." Karen did the opposite and started at her former husband. "I'm well thanks."

"Good."

Another brief moment of silence. Both of them getting rather comfortable against the wall now. As if they knew this wall like they did an old friend.

"Our baby is getting married huh." Karen broke the silence once again.

"Yeah. Time sure flies doesn't it."

Karen nodded her head in agreement. "Are you surprised it's Jason?"

For the first time this evening. David's face broke out a real, happy smile. "I'm not at all surprised. I'm glad it's Jason to be honest with you."

"Why's that?" Karen asked. Her own face showing some amusement.

"Because there will be less stress for us." David's smile widened. "We know Jason will look after her. And we know that the love they have, is true."

"Wow Dave. You've matured a lot haven't you?" Karen said with a slight hint of sarcasm.

They both looked at each other and quietly, quickly laughed.

"I don't want there to be any awkwardness for our Kim's wedding." Karen said seriously. "We may not be together any more. But we are still her parents. Jean Pierre is fine with that and he doesn't want to get too involved. He wants you to be involved just as much as me. And I agree with him."

David smiled once again. He was so relieved to hear this. He didn't know how it would work with Karen's new husband being here. Sure, he still had feelings for his ex wife. But it was Kimberly who was the important one. He did not want to be thrown into the shadows. But Karen had just told him exactly what he wanted to hear.

"You seem relieved..." Karen's statement was more of a question.

"I am. Let's make this the perfect wedding for our daughter."

Karen nodded her head in agreement. "We'll make sure this will be the best day of her life."

At that, Kimberly's parents embraced shortly before making their was back into the dining room where Kimberly and Jason were ready to drop Karen and Jean Pierre back off to their hotel.

Everything was working out perfectly so far for the wedding. Things were just slotting into place with ease. Jason and Kimberly would finally have their Fairytale ending.

I'm sorry it took so long for another chapter. Life has been very very busy. My health hasn't been great either. But like I said. I WILL finish this story. It's close to the end now anyway. Not long left. And don't worry, I have a new story lined up after this one .

I know this wasn't the most exciting chapter. But you can't go full throttle every time. Things need to just fall into place just like they have for Kim and Jason in this chapter.

Next chapter will be up soon. Much quicker than chapters 29-30 lol.

If you read this. Thank you for having faith in me. I appreciate it more than you'll ever know.

Peace out RedDragon
