Chapter Fourteen: Invitation
She had a healing quirk.
That was the first thing that'd sprung in her mind when Recovery Girl pointed out Touya's partially healed scars.
The reason she'd never discovered her power before was because she'd never so much as kissed another person prior to Touya. She hadn't felt comfortable going that far with Inuyasha and her love life in general had always been nonexistent.
So without ever having that physical connection to another person, her quirk never had a chance to activate.
Kagome felt her face flame at the thought.
There was only a few things she could take away from this realization. The first was that her power didn't work on herself. Given how both the hicky and her swollen cheek were only fixed after Recovery Girl healed her, it was safe to assume that her power only worked in one direction. The second thing she figured out was that physical intimacy was the key factor in unlocking it. Only the area she'd been kissing Touya had healed. Not the rest of his body. Which meant that she was limited to whatever she touched. Third and most importantly was the possibility that the more physical she was with someone then the greater the effect could be, but she wasn't ready to test that out just yet. Currently, limited physical contact healed limited areas. For now, she would have to work under that assumption and nothing more.
Kagome didn't have to look behind her to see the wide, self-satisfied grin stretched across Touya's lips. He looked like a cheshire that ate a canary.
The bell rang, signifying that they were finally free from class for the day.
Touya grabbed onto her hand, "Hey, I still need to train tonight but I was thinking. Did you want to come to my place instead?" A bright flush stained his cheeks, "My sister has been begging to see you again and my other brothers want to meet you."
Kagome cocked her head to the side curiously, "See her again? Have I met your sister?"
She couldn't recall ever meeting her directly. Then again, Touya never even told her his siblings' names.
His shuffled on his feet sheepishly, "It's Fuyumi."
Kagome blinked once then twice before his response fully registered with her.
"Fuyu-chan is your sister?!"
The few students who were still in the classroom with them turned to stare at her as if she'd just sprouted a third head.
Touya pressed his palm against the back of his neck, "I just found out that the two of you were friends the other night. So Fuyumi suggested that it'd be a good idea if you came over. She said that she's wanted to spend some time together anyways."
In all the time she'd known Fuyumi, she'd never been able to visit her house. She'd told her at the time that it was because her brother had a medical condition and wasn't fond of strangers in the house. Now that she'd met Touya, she supposed that she should've pieced it together a lot sooner. Fuyumi and Touya did share a lot of similarities. Especially the white hair and penchant for dishing out verbal barbs.
"I'll go!" Kagome answered quickly. "I want to go!"
She wanted to see Fuyumi again but more importantly, she wanted to meet the people that they called family. She had a difficult enough time making friends, but now she wanted to meet the rest of the Todoroki family. Although she'd be lying if she said that she wasn't nervous at the prospect of meeting Endeavor face-to-face.
There was something utterly terrifying about that man.
"My old man will be out late tonight so you don't have to worry. It'll just be my younger siblings with us." Touya assured her.
"Was I that obvious?" Kagome pressed her palm to her cheek in an effort to smother the anxious feeling pooling in her chest.
His lips curled up into a playful grin, "You were."
She felt the weight of Touya's arm settled around her waist. It wasn't the first time he'd done so, yet her heart thundered beneath her breast just as it did when they first kissed.
She followed his lead, linking her own arm around his lower back. The stares they'd received had become less prominent. Both students and the locals had started to grow used to the image of them together. There were many who still sneered, pointing at them and joking about Touya's condition. There were many more though who would only give them a passing glance before returning to what they were doing. It wasn't much, but it was the first sign that people were starting to accept them.
"My place is only a few blocks away from the shrine." Touya confides to her, "It's pretty remote since our dad isn't fond of the media."
That was a sentiment she could understand.
Heroes were always to focal point of any news station. Every evening headliner always started with whatever All Might had accomplished that day followed by Endeavor's achievement. Even when the reports themselves were glowing, there was always an undercut of disapproval from the media regarding Endeavor's public image. So she could imagine that having them around his home would have been entirely out of the question.
"My baby brother will probably be waiting for us when we arrive. My other brother, Natsuo, will be home later. He's got club activities after school." Touya continued with his explanation, "Fuyumi is already there though. She said that she wanted to make dinner."
Kagome squealed in delight, "Her food is amazing!"
She'd tried Fuyumi's cooking many times before and even learned from her. The girl was a veritable beast in the kitchen. So if she was making dinner, then she knew that it would be amazing.
Touya threw her a wry smirk, "According to her it'll be oden tonight."
Kagome let out an audible gasp, "Oden?! For real?!"
Her boyfriend tipped his head and pressed his lips against her temple. The sudden action caused her body to freeze and her heart to nearly stop.
Touya smirked, "I think I just found your favorite food."
Kagome pressed her hands to her face, peering through the spaces between her fingers.
He got her.
"So," Kagome turned within his grasp. She folded her arms around his neck and brought them both to a halt. She felt both of his arms curl around her waist in response, pulling her flush against his chest.
Just like the first day she'd run into him, she felt the garden wall of his muscles hidden beneath his shirt. Not even the scarred flesh could hide the effort he put into working out and maintaining his strength. His build had been the first thing she'd noticed about him, the second was his kindness.
Kagome pressed her lips against his in the barest hint of a kiss, "I know your favorite food is soba but you never said if you liked it hot or cold. So which is it?"
Touya slanted his mouth over hers fiercely. He locked one arm around her waist while the other shifted up the line of her back, as if he were anchoring her to himself.
Neither of them paid any mind to the strangers gawking at them in a mixture of awe, disgust and abject horror.
He drew back after a long moment, "Hot. I prefer hot soba. Cold soba is just gross."
Kagome gave a small laugh at that, "Even during summer?"
He lowered his mouth towards hers once more, "Even during summer."
The two froze at the piercing sound of his phone's ringtone.
She tried to move away but his arm held her in place, holding her against his side as he swiftly answered the call.
"Yes we're on our way, sis. Not we didn't get lost and we'll be there in ten minutes." Touya began answering his sibling's lost list of questions. His face suddenly took on a stark shade of red, "Of course we weren't! Give me some credit! What do you take me for, some kind of animal?"
He growled beneath his breath, "Yeah fine. We'll be there soon. Just don't go making any weird comments."
She watched as he hung up and slid his phone back into his pocket.
"Shall we pick up where we left off or should we rush on over?" A teasing smile played across her lips.
Touya shot her a smirk.
"We can wait a little longer."
