There was chaos in Mewni. No one knew what had happened, only that a strange creature, unlike any Mewnian had ever seen, was attacking. The Royal Guard was trying their best to fend it off but to no avail.
Suddenly a hope spot rose into the sky. A silhouette crossed the sky.
"Princess Harmony!" A young child cheered before the hidden crowd joined in.
The young princess did not respond to the cheers or the confusion of the crowd. Instead she raised her harp shaped wand above her head, strumming on it's silk strings as she did. Soon she started singing and began to change. Her long strawberry blond hair tied itself up into two buns, gaining a sliver color as it did. Gray wings emerged from her back along with two extra pairs of arms. The Mewnians oohed and ahhed at her appearance. Even the strange creature seemed in awe.
Then Princess Harmony screamed.
A blinding light soon surrounded her engulfing her, when it diminished the creature was gone, but so was Harmony. Immediately the crowd rushed to the scene. From the sky the wand fell on the ground with a thud.
"Harmony!" A voice called from the sky Queen Star herself descended. Only to be greeted by the somber crowd. "No..."
"She has to be out there!" one of the Mewnian lords slammed his fist on the meeting table. "Surely there is somewhere we haven't looked."
"Our searches in all of the quadrants has been inconclusive." Omnitraxus Prime said pointing to everything. "Some haven't even seen any traces of Butterfly magic..."
"The Realm of Magic is a no go as well," Star sighed. "I haven't seen her and the Millhorses haven't seen her either."
"It's been barely four months now!" Another one shouted.
"Enough!" Star stood up and proceeded to wipe away the burgeoning tears from her eyes. "Do you think I want to call the search off? It's my daughter! But as queen there are some things that need to be done!
"I hate to put salt in the wound..." Hekkapoo said a bit hesitantly. "But without Harmony Mewni currently heirless..."
"We are not heirless!" Star cut the magical being off. "Which is way I called this meeting. Tomorrow is March 20th and thus..."
"Wait, you're not saying what I think you're saying..."
"I am and no one can talk me out of it. Artemis will be named heir."
"Okay ready... 3... 2... 1..."
"Oh for he's a jolly good fellow! For he's a jolly good fellow! OHHHHH"
"And good morning to you guys." Artemis said from his bed. He didn't even need to look up to see who was there.
"A thank you would have been nice!" Arroyo Ponyhead said grumpily.
"We spent weeks working on the song," His sister Marina added.
"Thank you," Artemis said as he sat up.
"Man it must suck having Harmony's search called off the day before..." Janelle Lucitor started to say.
"I don't need any reminders." Artemis got out of bed as he narrowed his purple eyes. "I want today to be a good day. There's nothing I can do with the council or High Commission, it was simply a protocol that had to be followed."
"But surely they could have."
"Protocol!" Artemis shouted before looking away.
"I know what will cheer you up!" Artemis turned to face Alphonse Butterfly. "How about some birthday pancakes!"
"Let me get dressed first," Artemis said before a knock came at the door. The group looked at each other and shrugged.
"Prince Artemis," the voice of Wendy, his mother's majordomo said after a second. "Your presence is requested in the grand hall as soon as possible. Make sure you're dressed formally too. I also advise your friends to start heading down there as well."
"Guess you're folks are planning a birthday breakfast." Alphonse said with a slight smile before the group walked out
"Yeah..." Artemis said as the door closed. He then walked too his closet and put on an orange suit. Quickly he combed his chestnut hair into a slight swoop. Looking at himself in the mirror, he think he looked princely enough. Slowly he reached up and touched one of the orange half suns on his cheeks.
Taking a deep breath, Artemis walked out of his room. Strangely the hallways were barren and quiet. Then again, the kingdom more than likely entered a state of mourning over their princess. What would even happen now, in all his studies Artemis had never heard of a time where Mewni lost their princess. Sure younger sisters had taken the throne but nothing like the princess being missing.
Then Artemis paused, he looked over and saw the portrait of his family. His mother stood smilingly proud with her wand in one hand. His father, King Marco, stood beside her, with one arm around her waist. Front in center was Harmony, beaming like any princess. While Artemis merely stood at his father's side, with a small smile. That's how it was, and there wasn't Artemis could do.
Soon Artemis made his way to the door of the grand hall. He could hear some slight whispers as he approached, but upon turning around he saw nothing. He shrugged a little a before opening the door.
And upon doing so, he was greeted by a blasting of trumpets. Shaking his head a little, he soon saw the grand hall full of citizens of Mewni, other rulers, pretty much anyone he could think of.
"Happy Birthday Artemis!" Looking in the center he saw his mother waving excitedly from the other end.
"T-thanks Mom," Artemis waved back at her, as his father nudged her slightly.
"I was getting to that," Star playfully nudged Marco while Artemis looked on confused. "Now citizens and royal families of Mewni and our allies, it my honor to present to you for the first time Crown Prince Artemis of Mewni!"
"Did she just say Crown Prince?" Artemis thought to himself as he looked around and saw that everyone had turned to face him, while he could hear his friends starting to cheer for him.
"Oh can't forget this!" Star lifted her arm and levitated the heir tiara onto Artemis's head.
"Is this really happening?" Artemis thought to himself as he kept pinching his arm. "I can't be Crown Prince! That means I'm the HEIR! The future KING of Mewni! Wait doesn't that mean..."
"So are you gonna stand there, or what?"
Artemis took a deep breath in as he took her first step across. He could see them. Everyone staring at him. Some looked unamused, others confused, while others looked concerned. Soon some started whispering among each other but refused to take their eyes off of him. He focused on looking ahead. He didn't need to look at them. Just focus on his parents
"Yay Nieto!" Angie and Rafael cheered from the crowd causing Artemis to let out a smile.
Soon he found himself standing in front of his parents, looking up at them.
"Ready tater tot?" Star said excitedly as Artemis nodded nervously. "Well what are you waiting for?"
"You're gonna do great," Marco added as Artemis reached for the wand in his mom's hand.
"N-nothing's happen..." Artemis started to say before the wand burst into flames. Artemis froze as the flames started to surround him as well. All he could see were flames. Though he could make out what looked like eyes at a few points. Then the flames started to cease before they rose into the air. After watching it disperse, Artemis looked down in his hand. The wand had now changed. The base was now orange with yellow wrapping around it. With what appeared to be laurel branches growing from the side. The bell itself now appeared to be see through, with its own little flame inside. Artemis just stared at it in awe. This was his now, he was the new heir of Mewni.
