"Wow that has got to be coolest wand I've seen," Arroyo said floating around the wand.
"I could stare at that flame all day," Marina added as she kept looking into the bell.
"Oh man the fun we're gonna have with that," Janelle rubbed her hands together.
"Please don't touch it," Artemis said, pulling the wand away.
"What's the point of having that thing if you're not going to use it!" Arroyo pointed to the wand with one of his flippers while the two girls nodded.
"It's a priceless family heirloom!"
"Aww look like he's having fun!" Star said, watching the convo from afar.
"I remember all the crazy things we did B-fly," Ponyhead laughed. "Oh those were the days. Now our kids finally get a chance of their own!"
"Let's just hope he doesn't set any towns on fire," Tom Lucitor said as he took a sip of his drink.
"Oh that was one time!" Star rolled her eyes while Ponyhead laughed.
"You sure this is a good idea?" Tom said carefully before taking a sip of his drink.
"I mean I can count the number of born Ponyhead queens on one hand," Star said. "So a born king of Mewni isn't a big deal."
"No, I mean timing wise..."
"I understand your concern." Star gripped her chalice with both hand, doing her best to hide that they were shaking. "I-I just want to make sure Artemis is ready... Of course I want Harmony to be found and returned safely but for the kingdom and for him it's for the best."
"The ceremony was quite beautiful dear," Star turned to see her parents behind her and she smiled.
"Thanks Mom and Dad. I tried..."
"I still remember your Wand Ceremony like it was yesterday," River laughed. "Oh my have you grown."
"The flames spooked me though," Moon said with a small shiver.
"I don't think anyone saw that coming," Star laughed.
"For the last time you can't touch it!" Artemis ran past followed by Arroyo and Marina.
"Glad he's still my baby boy." Star said as she laughed a little.
"Hey kids, be careful with that Artemis just got it!" Ponyhead yelled but the two seemingly kept up with their chase. "Oh those kids. They're gonna get into so much trouble with the wand now."
"Ponyhead, Artemis grew out of that phase a while ago." Star shook her head a little. "I have my full faith in him as a responsible magic user."
"Guys seriously, I'd rather not," Artemis said as he stopped running, gripping his new wand tighter, the flame inside it grew ever so slightly.
"These guys bugging you Artemis," A voice said.
"Aqua what are you doing here?" Arroyo said annoyed as the eldest of the Ponyhead triplets flew over.
"Um isn't it obvious! I'm making sure my friend is protected from whatever you two are planning," Aqua said flying in front of Artemis.
"No way we've been friends with him for years!" Arroyo retorted. "You don't just get to butt in cause he's heir now."
"Um it is tradition that the Princesses of Cloud Kingdom and The Butterfly Kingdom are besties." Marina added. "I plan to continue it."
"Were Harmony and Aqua even friends?" Artemis thought to himself.
"That tradition our mothers started!" Marina added.
"Fine but our kingdoms have been allies for centuries and as heir I will not be the one to ruin it."
"You're only heir cause you born were 6 minutes before me!"
Artemis quickly looked around before noticing the refreshment table and slowly made his way over as the triplets started to argue. A small crowd had started to form and despite Artemis's pleas no one budged, causing Artemis to look for space. Luckily he found a small and begin to attempt to squeeze through.
"Excuse me coming through!"
"Oh help yourself Lady Meteroa," One of the Lords said, stepping back.
"You need to be a little louder squirt." Meteroa laughed as she rubbed Artemis's head.
"I'll work on it..." Artemis said quietly as he started to grab a few snacks. "But thank you."
"So how did you do that flame thing?" Meteroa asked as they left the food table.
"Flame thing?"
"Ya know with your wand!" Meteroa created a small flame in her hand. "You going to be a flame king? Cause that would be so cool!"
"I uh don't know why it burst into to flames..."
"Well if you ask me," a new voice joined the convo. "I thought it was pretty cool."
"Oh hello Aunt Mariposa." Artemis gave a small wave as his aunt walked over. "I was just explaining to Meteroa I didn't actually do that..."
"I guess suit yourself," Mariposa shrugged. "But considering that the wand now contains a flame, I take that plus what ever happened when you touched is a sign."
"I didn't see any music when Harm..."
"Hang on there," Mariposa raised her hand. "Artemis, this is your birthday, your day. You deserve it and deserve to spend not comparing yourself to your sister."
"Oh there you are Artemis," Artemis turned to Alphonse walking over. "I've been looking for you. I got you some you some cheesy corn bites."
"Thank you, I was looking for these." Artemis said, taking one off of the plate, only for Alphonse to give him the whole plate.
"I had my fill, don't worry!" Alphonse said with a big genuine smile.
"Hey little bro, we need some input. Care to give us some?" Meteroa asked as Alphonse nodded. "So Posie and I think Artemis is gonna be a flame caster! What do you think?"
"Well Mom did mention the dark butterflies when she first got the wand and Nana had a sword so possibly."
"So my Grandma Comet summoned pies?" Artemis asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Her wand was a rolling pin." Both of the siblings said in unison.
"Listen, fire magic sounds… well scary." Artemis shivered a little. "Something could catch on fire unintentionally. Or worse... Someone."
"Hey it's not all that bad." Meteroa flicked her wrist and a small purple flame came from her finger. "Plus rainbows of all things catch fire."
"Oh maybe you can figure out how to prevent that!" Alphonse said. "Could be cool for like, parties or something."
"Oh I may have accidentally spilled glitter glue on that page." Everyone turned to see Star laughing to herself while Marco stood next to her, shaking his head with a smile. Star proceeded to clap her hands. "Well, we came to check on you Tater Tot! You excited to have the wand?"
"Yeah, yeah," Artemis said, gripping the wand a little tighter.
"Don't feel any pressure okay," Marco walked up and placed a hand on Artemis's shoulder. "You don't need to do any crazy spells right away. We have faith in you that you'll do great."
"But don't forget the most important part!" Star sang with a slight twirl. "To have fun!"
"Have fun..." Artemis looked at the wand again before looking at everyone else. Who had already started conversing with each other. Slowly Artemis backed away, until he reached a decent distance. Quietly he walked to the edge of the ball room to a closed door leading to a balcony. Carefully opening it, he walked outside. Cool spring air hit his face and soon he saw glimpses of Mewni. Little shops, houses, even fields. Everything that now one day he was going to rule over. Everything that was going to be in his care one day.
"I hope I can do good for you Harmony." Artemis looked up at the sky as the breeze wrapped around him. He held up his wand and looked into his wand's flame. Slowly, the realization dawned on him. This was the royal magic wand… the wand of the future ruler of Mewni…
And now it was his wand. His eyes widened.
"Oh my corn. I'm the heir."
