Chapter 40: Blue Typhoon

"YOU BUILT A SPACE SHIP ALREADY?!" Tangle asked, still shouting.

"Well, it was meant to fight Eggman on the planet, but with a couple of tweaks to the engines, I should be able to get it into space pretty easily!" Tails explained.

"How long did this take you?!" Tangle asked.

"Eh, I'd say about… a month?" Tails said.

Everyone in the room was surprised at this, looking at the boy with shocked looks on their faces.

"…What?"

"Uh… I am pretty sure that back home, with an entire team of super geniuses and expert engineers… it takes several years to make one of these… and those are a whole lot smaller than this one is…" Chris explained.

"Oh… really? It wasn't that hard once I drew out the plans for it!" Tails said.

"DUDE!" Tangle shouted. "YOU! ARE! INCREDIBLE!"

"Nah… I'm not tha-"

"No Tails… I'm gonna have to agree with Tangle here… you've done some amazing things, but this is by far the most incredible thing I have ever seen!" Amy said.

"Don't sell yourself short bro." Sonic said.

Tails, who felt rather embarrassed by all the praise, rubbed the back of his head with a red face.

"Though, there is just one problem…" Tails said.

"And that is?" Jewel asked.

"I was planning to use the Chaos Emeralds to power it… but those are gone so…"

"Oh that? Psh, no problem! I have the perfect idea!" Tangle said with a grin.

"You're sure you'll be able to convince Knuckles to let us use this?" Amy said as she and Tangle hauled the Master Emerald into Tails' workshop.

"No problem at all! I have the perfect plan!" Tangle said with a grin.

"If you say so… I have a backup plan just in case though." Amy said.

"That's fine, but I doubt we'll need it!

Later

"HEY!" Knuckles shouted as he sprinted into the hanger.

"Oh hey Knuckles! How's it going?" Tangle asked.

"TERRIBLY!" Knuckles shouted. "WHO SAID YOU COULD TAKE THE MASTER EMERALD?!"

"The Master Emerald…" Tangle said.

"Oh okay…" Knuckles said as he began to walk away. "… WAIT WHAT?!"

"Yeah, we asked it, and Tikal said that it agreed to the plan!" Tangle said.

"… Ok, no…" Knuckles groaned out. "There is no way in…"

"It's the truth Knuckles." A new voice said.

Everyone turned to the Master Emerald to see that it was glowing.

"I wish to help these heroes travel the cosmos in order to recover the Chaos Emeralds."

"Holy…" Amy said.

"IT CAN TALK?!" Chris asked.

"…" Knuckles stayed silent.

"I would appreciate your assistance Knuckles." The Master Emerald said.

"… Yeah, nice try." Knuckles said. "That's not what the Master Emerald sounds like… and only Echidna's can hear it."

He shot a look at Chris with that last comment.

"Drat… of course you pick now to not be gullible…" Tangle groaned out. "Come on Tikal, it didn't work…"

Tikal then emerged from the Master Emerald. "Told you it wouldn't…"

"Oh… so that is Tikal…" Cosmo said.

"Yup! My friend that is living in my head!" Tangle said.

"A vast improvement to the Master Emerald, that's for sure." Tikal said.

"Why? Is it cause you were in there for thousands of years?" Tails asked.

"No, cause there's a lot more room!" Tikal joked.

"Oh HA HA HA!" Tangle said to everyone's laughter.

"Ahem…" Knuckles said.

"Oh right… listen Knuckles. We are pretty much doomed without the Master Emerald… so please?" Tangle asked nicely.

"Hmm… No." Knuckles said.

At this point, Cream had enough.

"I can't believe you Knuckles!" She shouted.

"The whole universe is at stake!" Cosmo added.

"Maybe he just needs us to knock some sense into him!" Amy said with an evil look in her eyes.

Tangle just grinned at this. "Let's do it!"

The four girls then mobbed Knuckles.

"Sonic! Help!" Knuckles pleaded.

"Sorry Knuckles, I don't get in fights I can't win!" Sonic said.

"Good luck!" Jewel added as she walked away.

"HEEEEEEEEELP!"

The next day

The group was thankfully able to convince Knuckles to help out, and were just now putting the finishing touches on the Typhoon's upgrades.

"Seriously, I was expecting this to take a lot longer…" Tangle said as Tails and Chris typed away in the ship's bridge.

"Well, on my own it would have, but with you guys helping out, it sped things up a lot!" Tails said.

"Where are the other girls by the way?" Chris asked.

"They're all getting food and stuff for the trip." Tangle explained. "They thought it would be better than just sitting around."

At that moment though, they felt the ground shake around them.

"What the…?" Chris said.

The three of them then went to the nearby window to see what was going on.

"Oh great… this guy again!" Tangle said.

"That's… the Metarex… isn't it…?" Chris asked.

"Yeah…" Tangle said. "Don't tell me they found out about the ship…"

Tails then went over to his seat from before and began typing.

"Ok, so we are just about done with everything, and what's left we can do during takeoff." Tails said.

"So…"

"It's time to take off!" Tails said.

"Right, I'll go help fight this guy off, and I'll tell Knuckles to get over here!" Tangle said. "You call Jewel and the others and tell them to get over here too!"

"Right, be careful!" Tails said as Tangle ran out.

After running and swinging from trees for a while, Tangle finally made her way over to the Metarex, who was currently fighting Sonic and Knuckles.

"Knuckles! You gotta get to the ship and get us ready for take-off!" Tangle said.

"Now?!"

"Yes now! Hurry it up!"

At that point, the Metarex swung its sword at the two of them, though they were able to dodge.

At this point, Sonic jumped in, quite literally, and planted the monster's face into the dirt.

"We'll take care of things here! Just get going!" Sonic said.

"Right, good luck you two!" Knuckles said as he began running towards the workshop.

"Ready to rock Sonic?" Tangle asked.

"Ready to roll Tangle!" Sonic said as they both charged at the monster.

The two then did their best to fight off the monster. While they were doing better this time around, thanks to Sonic being back to full strength and speed, it was becoming increasingly apparent that they weren't going to be able to deal any damage to it. At least, not normally.

"Sonic! I have an idea!" Tangle called out.

"What is it?" Sonic asked.

Tangle then stretched her tail out and made a slingshot of sorts with it.

One look at this, and Sonic knew exactly what she had in mind.

As Sonic began to run towards her, Tangle thought back to the last time he did this… the time that they ended up getting completely trounced.

She also thought back to the time before that, when she got trampled as a result.

'I'm a lot stronger now! I can do this!'

As soon as Sonic made contact with the tail, one thing became very obvious.

She was right.

The tail stretched out quite a bit, and suddenly retracted, causing the hedgehog to go flying at the monster a lot faster than he would be able to on his own.

The attack connected, and sent the monster flying backwards.

When it got up, the damage was visible, as its armor was noticeably cracked.

"Haha! How do you like that?!" Tangle gloated.

"You are a menace to the universe! You must be eliminated!" The monster said, firing a flurry missiles at them.

Thankfully, they were able to dodge, but the missiles were heading straight for the ship, so Sonic had to deflect them with a spin attack.

"Geez… talk about close…" Tangle said.

The monster then flew up into the air, and began flying over a nearby ocean.

"Ok… looks like my work is done for now…" Tangle said before beginning to make her way back to the ship, which was now slightly airborn.

When she got a good view of the ship though…

"IS THAT A GIANT CANNON?!" She shouted.

Said cannon then appeared to be charging up something big, and before long fired a large blast of what seemed to be energy. This energy tore through the metarex, resulting in a massive explosion, completely destroying it.

"AWWWWW YEAH!" Tangle cheered. "Now we're talking!"

When she looked again though, she saw that the cannon didn't fire a blast of energy, but rather a certain hedgehog.

"Uh… I hope they have a plan for getting him ba-"

At that moment, the Hyper Tornado flew by, and went to retrieve the currently falling hedgehog.

"Alrighty then!"

She then began waving to the plane, so that whoever was flying it could come and pick her up.

Before long, they were landing back onto the Typhoon, which was on its way off the planet.

Looking down at the planet, Tangle couldn't help but frown.

There was so much destruction already, so many dying trees and plants in general…

They had to find a way to get their Planet Egg back, no matter what.

So, with renewed resolve, she began to walk towards the bridge.

When she got there, she saw everyone, all looking down at the planet as well.

At this moment, Tangle knew that there was nothing to worry about. Cause with this team on the case, anything was possible.

End of Chapter 40

And so here we are, the crew is now off planet and prepped to go find the Chaos Emerald's throughout the cosmos.

This also marks the end of what I wrote when I was originally working on this story! Yup, up until this point was written over 2 years ago!

Which means that you may see a change in writing quality from this point forward. I did make small edits here and there for these few chapters, but I didn't really want to change much of what I wrote initially.

As such, and I feel that this goes without saying: the quality of my writing will go up tremendously after this chapter... after re-reading some past chapters I noticed that it was all very... dialogue heavy. Like, there's just character talking after character talking... kinda made it all feel stiff. So, I've been working to fix that, and you'll probably see that come into play next chapter!

Also, worth mentioning, I changed my stance on whether or not I am gonna start posting this on AO3, and started posting it there as well (as of right now, I am about halfway through posting). This is simply because the emails seem to be broken on this site, and I want to make sure everyone gets notified of when I post. Not only that, it just makes it easier for me to respond to comments and messages since I don't have to constantly check for them.

I'll still be posting chapters here, but I urge you to follow the story over there if you haven't already.
