The sun was shining brightly over Magnolia, and the Fairy Tail guild was buzzing with its usual chaos. Tables were being overturned, Cana was already on her third barrel of the morning, and Gray was, unsurprisingly, shirtless. It was just another typical day—until it wasn't.
Natsu Dragneel burst through the doors, his usual wide grin plastered across his face. "Oi, Lucy! You ready for today's job?" he called out, eyes scanning the guild for his blonde partner.
Lucy Heartfilia, who was sitting at the bar chatting with Mirajane, turned to face him, her expression instantly darkening. "Natsu, we need to talk," she said, her voice low and serious.
Natsu blinked, taken aback by her tone. "Uh, okay? What's up?"
The entire guild seemed to collectively hold its breath. Lucy *never* used that tone with Natsu, at least not in front of everyone.
Lucy stood up, pushing her chair back with a loud scrape. "I can't believe you! You *burned* all my manuscripts! Every single one!"
Natsu scratched the back of his head, looking confused. "Wait, what? You mean those piles of paper you left lying around? I thought they were scrap!"
"S-Sc-Scrap?!" Lucy sputtered, her eyes narrowing into dangerous slits. "That was my novel, you flame-brained idiot!"
By now, every eye in the guild was on them, the usual chaos dying down to an uneasy silence. Even Happy, who was usually instigating trouble, was hovering nervously by the bar, nibbling on a fish.
"Hey, calm down! How was I supposed to know? You never tell me when you're writing!" Natsu shot back, his voice rising defensively.
"I shouldn't have to tell you! Who else do you know that writes in this guild?!" Lucy's voice was practically a shriek now, her fists clenched tightly at her sides.
"Oh, I don't know," Natsu countered, his own temper flaring. "Maybe someone who doesn't leave papers all over the floor like a crazy person!"
"You're the crazy one, Natsu! You've destroyed my stuff *so* many times! My clothes, my books, my apartment! And now my novel? Do you have any idea how much time I spent on that?"
The guild members exchanged nervous glances. Elfman was muttering something about how real men handle their problems without burning novels, while Juvia was in a corner, deeply conflicted about whether she should be happy about Natsu and Lucy fighting or sad that it wasn't Gray-sama arguing with her.
"Why are you always so uptight? It's just paper! I'll help you write more or something, geez!" Natsu yelled, throwing his hands in the air.
"JUST PAPER?!" Lucy's voice echoed throughout the guild, causing several members to wince. "You have no idea what it means to put your heart and soul into something, do you? You just rush in, fists blazing, without thinking!"
"Well, at least I do something instead of just sitting around *writing* about it!" Natsu fired back.
There was a collective gasp from the guild. Even Gajeel, who was usually the first to stir up trouble, looked genuinely concerned.
Lucy's face flushed red, her eyes glistening with unshed tears of fury. "You... you... I don't even know why I put up with you!"
"Maybe you shouldn't then!" Natsu snapped, his voice loud enough to rattle the glasses behind the bar.
Silence.
Dead silence.
The guild members froze, as if the world itself had come to a screeching halt. Levy had dropped her book, Mirajane's smile was nowhere to be seen, and even Makarov had paused in his usual ranting about the guild's finances.
It was as if the apocalypse had descended upon them, and the end of days was nigh.
Lucy and Natsu stood there, breathing heavily, staring each other down like two rival dragons about to tear each other apart.
And then, as if the tension couldn't get any higher, Happy flew in between them, his tiny paws held up in a gesture of peace. "Come on, guys! Natsu didn't mean it, Lucy! And Lucy, you know Natsu's not good with words! Can we all just take a deep breath and go fishin'?"
Lucy's face softened slightly, but she still looked furious. "This isn't something that can be fixed with fishing, Happy."
Natsu, still fuming, crossed his arms. "Yeah, well, maybe I'll just go on the job without you! See how you like that!"
"Fine! Maybe I'll write a novel about how *annoying* you are!" Lucy spat.
"Fine!"
"Fine!"
With that, Lucy spun on her heel and marched out of the guild, her celestial keys jangling angrily at her side. Natsu watched her go, his fists still clenched, before storming off in the opposite direction.
The guild remained in stunned silence, as if someone had just declared the end of the world. Which, in a way, someone had.
Gray finally broke the silence, shaking his head. "Man, I think we're all doomed."
Cana nodded, taking a long swig from her barrel. "Yep. If those two are fighting, it's over for us all."
Erza, who had been unusually quiet throughout the whole ordeal, stood up from her seat, her face grave. "This is serious. If Natsu and Lucy are at odds, the very balance of the guild could be at stake."
Makarov sighed deeply, looking more tired than usual. "Perhaps it's time to prepare for the worst. A world where Natsu and Lucy aren't friends might as well be a world without magic."
As the guild descended into a mix of panic, overreactions, and increasingly elaborate doomsday preparations (Gajeel was already planning a bunker with Levy), one thing became clear: Fairy Tail was officially convinced that the end of the world had begun.
But little did they know, the storm would soon pass, and Natsu and Lucy would be back to their old, bickering-but-unbreakable selves before they knew it.
At least, until the next argument.
