Heyy I'm back! I admit, I forgot I actually published this for a while, even though I pre-written this chapter. But I'm going to set a reminder for myself to upload every week from now on.
I didn't expect anyone to actually be reading this, so I was super surprised when I was that I got a review!
RainyDayReading342 - Thank you so much! And thank you for reviewing :)
Ok here's chapter 3! This one was super fun to write..
After a pretty uneventful history class, I walk in the direction that Dex said PE was in. I hope they have an extra set of clothes, because I didn't realize I had gym today.
Once I reach the gymnasium, I see two doors clearly labeled "Boys" and "Girls". I awkwardly walk into the girls one, and almost tumble over in relief when I find Marella in the corner, touching up her makeup.
"Hey Sophie!" she yells as she sees me approach her in the compact mirror she was using.
"Hi! You don't happen to have an extra set of gym clothes, do you?"
She smirks and tosses a bag equipped with a Foxfire set of shorts, t-shirt, and a stick of deodorant. "Here, every student gets one!"
I exhale gratefully. After changing into the shirt and shorts, I walk into the gym with Marella. I see Dex emerging from the boys locker room on the other side. I wave to him and once he sees us, he quickly runs over.
"Hey! Sorry I couldn't find you and Coach Rohana was making me go change!" he explains.
"It's fine, I found Marella!"
"Yep!" she says.
An arm drapes over me and I hear the now-familiar voice of Keefe. "Hey Foster, looks like we're in the same gym class!"
"Oh, great," Dex snarks, as Fitz and Biana join our group.
"Attention Students! Today we will be playing a friendly little game of dodgeball!"
"Yess!" Keefe pumps his fist in the air. He and Fitz high five each other.
Oh no. Dodgeball is NOT one of my favorite games. In fact, there's nothing we do in gym that I'm actually GOOD at.
"I'll let you guys choose your own teams with 5-8 people," Coach Rohana pauses as Keefe lets out a whoop. "And then we can start the tournament."
She stops talking and excited chatter echoes throughout the gym. I turn to Dex and Marella.
"Perfect, we have 6 people!" Biana says excitedly.
"Ughhh nooooo," Marella groans as soon as Biana, Fitz, and Keefe run over to write our names on the board. "I don't think I can handle 80 minutes being on a team with Princess Perfect."
"And I can't with Wonderboyyyy," Dex complains.
I just laugh. "We'll survive."
Five minutes later, Coach Rohana blows her whistle, marking the official start of the tournament. I glance at the whiteboard, which has a tournament chart drawn on it. In black marker, our names are under round two. Each round is 10 minutes, so that gives us some time to prepare ourselves.
I head over to my "team", where I find Biana and Keefe excitedly chatting, Fitz on his phone, and Dex and Marella staring daggers at the three of them.
"So.. do you guys play this game often?" I ask, wanting to break the tension.
Fitz looks up from his phone, "Oh yeah, every few weeks Coach Rohana is in a good mood and lets us play. Looks like you're a good luck charm." He winks one of his mesmerizing teal eyes at me, and I'm not sure why my cheeks suddenly feel hot. Out of the corner of my eye, I see Keefe scowl, but when I turn towards him, his usual smirk is still there. Weird.
"Round 1 is over, teams listed for Round 2, please make your way over here."
We hop off the bleachers and make our way to the main gym, where colorful soft balls of all sizes were lined up in the center. The team we're going against is a group of 7 people. A girl with curly brown hair gives scowls at Marella.
"This round should be easy," she says, glaring at the blonde.
Marella just tosses her hair over her shoulder and gives a sweet smile. "Yes, it should be."
The girl rolls her eyes and turns back to her team.
Marella motions for us to huddle together. "Ok, I don't really know you guys that well, but I DO know that I'd like nothing more than to CRUSH STINA."
Biana surprisingly nods her head. "It's time we show that girl who's boss."
"Ok people, to the wall," Coach Rohana yells.
Our team goes to one wall while Stina's team reaches the other. I try to copy the threatening positions that the rest of my team had, but almost tripped. I settle for just placing one hand on the wall.
"On your mark, get set, GO!"
We all run towards the balls in the center, each using a different technique. Keefe got to the balls first, and started throwing them towards various members of the other team, missing all of them. Dex, as soon as he reached the balls, was smart and pushed all of them to our side, so the other team couldn't get them.
Marella's main target seemed to be Stina, as she tried everything she could do to get her out. That's why she didn't notice a boy from the other team launching a purple ball at her. I move towards her and catch the ball right before it has a chance to make contact with her knee.
"Mario, you're out!" Coach Rohana says.
Fitz looks approvingly at me and Keefe yells "Go Foster!"
Marella smiles at me, but turns her attention back to Stina, who made her way to the other side of the gym in the short period of time we were distracted. Two girls on the other side aim towards me but I immediately duck out of the way. The ball whizzes past me, inches away from my ear. Fitz hits a guy named Juan out and Stina tries to hit Keefe, but he gracefully leaps out of the way.
He then turns my way and suddenly yells, "FOSTER WATCH OUT!"
Before I can realize what's happening, Fitz, Keefe, and Dex are all lined up in front of me and Coach Rohana is yelling "DANG, we have three hits in one throw! Nice job Annabelle!"
Fitz, Keefe, and Dex all glare at each other before making their way to the bleachers.
Biana notices this and yells, "WHAT THE HECK GUYS!"
Marella eyes them. "Are you serious?"
They all shrug.
I guess it's up to us girls. I grab a blue ball that's near my foot and launch it at Stina's hip. She notices it a second too late and attempts to duck, but the ball hits her straight in the face.
"Ouch, that's gotta hurt! On the bench Stina!" Coach Rohana sympathizes.
"WHAT, NO! That's not fair, that was a head-shot. She should be out!" Stina complains.
Coach Rohana rolls her eyes and yells back, "Nope, you ducked to avoid and then it hit you in the face. She never aimed for your head. Now go to the bleachers and stop complaining before you get detention for a week!"
Stina finally shuts her mouth and makes the walk of shame towards the benches.
Marella runs over to me and holds out a hand for a high five. "THAT WAS AMAZING!"
I blush. "Thanks!"
A ball comes flying towards us but Biana blocks it with another one. "Umm, not to interrupt this little celebration, but WE'RE STILL IN THE MIDDLE OF THE GAME!"
Oh right. There are still two girls and two boys on the other team, and they look ready to get revenge on us for getting their captain out. Colorful balls come flying towards us. Thankfully, we're prepared for the attack and manage to catch two of them without getting hit.
"Aislinn, Issy, you guys are out!"
The final two boys look ruthless as they don't stop launching balls at us. Before we can think of a plan, one of the balls hit Marell, leaving just me and Biana.
"AVENGE ME!" she yells before sitting next to Dex on the bleachers.
I gulp. The two boys look ready to kill as they keep throwing the balls, not giving us a chance to pick any up and launch them back. This gives me an idea. I run to Biana, avoiding getting hit, and whisper in her ear.
"Just be on defense for now and try not to get hit. Soon enough, they'll run out of balls to throw and we'll have the upper hand."
Biana's heart-shaped lips form a smile as she nods. "Good idea"
We execute the plan, gracefully avoiding the balls, and every now and then throwing one back so that it doesn't seem suspicious. Soon enough, all the balls are on our side and the boys look confused.
I nod at Biana. "Here we go!"
Without warning, we start launching all the balls in all directions, not giving them any space to move.
In less than 10 seconds, we get both of them out. It's a rush as Keefe, Dex, Fitz and Marella come running to us with hugs and high-fives like we've won World War 2.
We break up the group hug when Coach Rohana blows her whistle. "You guys, we still have a few more rounds to play before we decide the winner!"
Oh right, I forgot.
