[City Ruins]
"Dammit Anemone! If your going to assign work for me in the desert, AT LEAST GIVE ME MORE MATERIALS!" Yelled a rough but feminine voice. Currently she was on a trek through the ancient ruins.
She wore the clothing of the Resistance. Covering almost her entire head was a grey cloak that led down to her legs. Black hair concealed her right eye with gloves and boots of the same color. On her torso was a dirty long sleeve shirt and grey pants for her legs. On her hip was a pouch containing various gadgets and parts.
She was known around the Resistance as the Chaotic Nature, the Anarchic Scientist, or just simply Jackass if you don't care about titles.
'How could Anemone fuck this up for me? SHE HAD ONE JOB!'
The thought of going back to camp upset the scientist, the more time she was in camp means more time being around wimps. According to herself, she's just simply to much of a firebomb to keep under wraps. What makes Jackass stand out is simply by her love for one thing in particular. If you need something to be blown up just call Jackass.
Got a group of machines chasing you down? Boom, grenade.
Need to destroy a wall blocking your path? No worries, a few C4's can take care of it.
What about that purplehead scavenger from another region you lost a bet to only to find out that she hustled you out of a few thousand G? Heh, let's just say that "gift" Jackass left for her will blow her socks away.
Point is Jackass can take care of any situation that needs a bit of firepower.
Anemone and the rest of the camp however, don't seem to agree with her methods. Jackass liked to experiment, problem is you'll probably might lose an arm, leg, and possibly a jaw. Just the other week a rookie was assigned as watch guard with our favorite scientist, which resulted in the poor boy being unfortunate enough to be her test dummy.
'I specifically told him to not drop the 10 pound jug of sulfuric acid and how was I supposed to know a wild boar pack was nearby.' That day didn't go as planned.
It also didn't help that the rogue woman loved to explore the many hidden secrets this world had to offer. She often fled off whenever she felt like it forcing others to finish her chores.
Did she upset people? Yes.
Was it funny to see them rage? Also yes.
But, it was at times fun to be there whenever they celebrated at reaching a new milestone.
Wait a minute, is she being sympathetic?
'Screw them. Their loss for not seeing the beauty in my creations.' The rogue woman made her way along the shade of the buildings.
Her love for science had landed her in hot water numerous times with her boss. The amount of times Anemone lectured Jackass with the usual "Don't do this, Don't do that" was so much if it was recorded the scientist would be certain that it'll be over 20 hours long. And what did Jackass do in this situation, nothing really just zone out or replay one of her many adventures in memory cards.
Their last confrontation was different though, after Anemone was done yapping off she told Jackass about her latest assignment, and for the first time in a while she graciously accepted the offer. She needed to test out some new gadgets she's been working on and with the location, which is in the desert she wouldn't have to deal with the whining of the others.
What the scientist didn't take into account however was the amount of materials she received when she got there. Her experiments can deal major damage but their still experiments meaning the scientist still needs an adequate amount of supplies in case her gadgets failed on her which it did.
Her latest creation was a bomb that can self-destruct at a certain sound radius. It...didn't go as intended as a nearby machine set it off when her back was turned. Luckily she was far enough to not suffer any major damage but it pissed her off that she spent countless hours on seeking the right wave frequency with chips that were hard to come across.
It only frustrated her further as the distance between the Desert and City Ruins are a day apart. A day of Jackass testing herself on every single curse word in every single language she could blurt out.
Eventually a few buildings she saw numerous times was in sight, signifying that she was getting close.
As the scientist drew closer to camp she put a hand over her chin as she began to speculate.
"Maybe Anemone's fuck up wasn't a mistake. She probably did it as punishment for what I did. Clever bitch." Jackass smiled at her conclusion when she heard a faint noise in the sky.
Looking up she saw 6 Flight Units flying towards the coast near the Ruins. She frowned as they flew by.
"Goddamn YoRHa and their stupid flight units. Thinking they're better than us just because they live in space inside a crappy-designed bunker." Jackass continued to insult the faction as an image of a familiar woman popped up in her mind. She shook her head and continued on with a grunt.
'Godammit White.'
Going back to the matter at hand she began seeing the giant fences built in-between buildings. Her relief made Jackass think back to Anemone's rants and realized something she didn't really take into account before.
No matter how many times the leader scorns her Anemone always lets her be, well except right now.
"Heh heh, at least you understand my genius. I'll always be like this, FOR THE SAKE OF SCIENCE!" the woman proudly declared.
*Step*
*Step*
Stopping dead in her tracks Jackass looked ahead. Emerging from the buildings were machines, looking at her with a red gaze.
"Shit." She grunted. The past few weeks the machines around the area have been reported as non-hostile. So what gives? Why all of a sudden did they decide to hate her now? Jackass reached in her pouch for as the machines rushed forth.
Pulling out a grey cylinder with a pin on the top. She hastily removed the trigger and threw it at the horde of machines. A second later an explosion erupted melting their bodies. Jackass laughed, happy that her experiment worked. Her moment was short-lived however when more machines emerged from her sides. Cursing under her breath the scientist ran back from where she came.
Thinking fast she ran up some nearby roots that Mother Nature humbly planted onto ruined structures. Now having the high ground she looked down seeing the machines clawing their way up to her. Jackass went back to her pouch smiling as she took out at a bundle of dynamite out and planted it on the side and set the timer off.
This was one of her favorites, the way it went off and the sound it made would always fill her with joy. Ever since she read that book on explosives she would always carry some on her.
Seeing the building she's on was connected to another she made her escape. After successfully climbing to the other roof she turned around excitedly to see the red sticks go off. Sure enough the woman wasn't disappointed as that part of the roof exploded and heard the machines near the top either transform into scorched scrap or plummet back to the ground. This will never get old for her. Knowing that wasn't the last of them she turned back to her pouch grabbing and taking out one last explosive.
"Dammit. Have to make this one count." She looked below on her left and saw a bus hugging the building she was on. Hopping down the explosive in her hands was now visible and resembled the appearance of a firework.
"Let's hope this baby works."
Since her discovery of the nearby amusement park Jackass was always intrigued by the colorful rocket bombs that exploded into the sky. After threatening a machine who didn't understand the concept of fear she was finally led into the back of the park where she took some blueprints.
The scientist ran into a clearing. Jackass worked quickly, setting the firework up on this hook she created where it would fly horizontally instead of vertically. Seeing the group of machines jump down and making their way to her made her hope that she got it right.
*Clunk*
Done, now all she needed to do was to light it. Taking out a box of matches she grabbed a stick and lit it up. Guiding he tiny flame to the wire sparks brightened up and she rolled out of the way.
*Fzzzzzzzzz*
*Step*
*Step*
*Step*
*Zooooooooom*
*BOOOOOOOM*
"AW HELL YEAH! THANK YOU CLOWNS!" Jackass celebrated as the firework successfully hit it's target. Flames erupted from where the machines were, a mix of bright light and explosions lit up the area. The scientist modified it so each light that came out would explode on impact. This resulted in a ricochet effect with surrounding units getting blown up as well.
'My genius never fails to amaze me.' Jackass smirked as the machines continued to burn. When the last of the enemy kicked the bucket she made her way back.
After retracing her steps the rogue woman finally found herself where she left off.
*Thunk*
*Thunk*
Her eyes widened at the sound, she looked at her surroundings. Two Goliath Bipeds flew in from behind the buildings.
Depleted in the ammo department Jackass could only dodge a swing from one of them. Despite her evade she wasn't fast enough as her arm got battered. Now rendering one her limbs useless Jackass did her very best to sprint out of their reach. Much to her dismay the other Goliath grabbed her body up from the ground and raised her to its head.
"Android"
"Kill"
"Kill"
"Kill"
'What? Since when do they speak?' was the only thought the woman had before she was violently thrown to the ground.
"AAAAAHHHH!"
Inner circuits and metal tore threw her clothing and into view. The impact of the fall mostly affected her legs, leaving her immobile.
Bombs, gone.
Left arm, busted.
Legs, unresponsive.
'Dammit not like this.' Jackass found herself at the complete mercy to the machines. She doubted anyone was nearby, they would've alerted the others and a squad would be here by now. Now their gonna kill her, the Anarchic Scientist meets her demise in an ambush and will become just another casualty for the war, all because she agreed to go to the fucking desert.
The Goliaths stepped closer, their intimidating height casted down upon her vulnerable form. One raised it's arms, high above it's head.
'Fuck! I'm sorry Anemone. I'm sorry White.' She closed her eyes waiting for her end.
*Clink*
'What was that?'
Opening her eyes back up Jackass witnessed something that almost made her break mentally. In front of the her was a man facing his back to her blocking the Goliath's fist. His hair was similar to a Scanner model and he wore red, she didn't acknowledge his appearance as the thing that caught her eye was the fact that HE WAS HOLDING HIS OWN WITH ONLY A SWORD!
'What? How?' her mind malfunctioned as she was struggling to process the man's absurd amount of strength. She's seen YoRHa androids do some pretty impressive feats with Goliaths, but not to the point where they can just straight-up stop them in their tracks.
"Haven't your mothers ever told you it's not nice to hit a woman." He said, pushing its arm back. The giant staggered as it tried to refocus on its balance. The man turned to her revealing his youthful face with a smile.
"Sorry Miss. I would've come sooner but I had my hands full. But I'm here now so you can relax now, I got this." He told Jackass who was even more surprised at the language he spoke. A language so old that it was rare for anyone to still speak of it today. Luckily, around the time she was created androids still used it meaning she was able to understand every word he said.
The red-clad man turned back and pulled out Beowulf. "That's some punch you got there. But how will it do against mine?" he smirked, walking towards the Goliaths.
"It's him. He's the one." one Goliath said.
"Yes. He is." the other responded.
"I don't what the hell your saying but you better show me what you got." Dante mockingly said. This seemed to get an reaction out of the two machines as they started to make their way towards him.
'Showtime.'
Vanishing on top of one the Goliath's head the white-haired man began dishing out punches to the machine. A shining beam of light emanated from his gauntlets as each hit met their target. The Goliath screamed in response, it swung its arms in an attempt to hit him or at the very least get him off. Dante responded by switching to Gunslinger and jumped up. In the air he brought out Artemis and began charging.
He performed Killer Bee, his body striking it's torso. A huge dent was created as the man began performing his Beehive combo breaking the leg's armor plating. After finishing off his kicks Dante jumped out of the way when the other Goliath did a strike from behind. Now done charging he released Artemis' trigger resulting in multiple purple orbs of energy coming out. The spheres then found their target and proceeded to strike the metal fiend with missile-like trajectory.
The injured Goliath got the worst of it as it's metal broke off exposing its circuits. The other backed off as it got hit pretty well. The man ran towards the injured one and used Artemis to manifest a giant ball of purple onto it. The tin can became stunned giving the devil hunter the opportunity to perform his Beehive combo again this time followed by a Beast Uppercut. The Goliath flew up and Dante fires again as lasers burned through it's body. The core got destroyed and the machine exploded.
He aimed Artemis at the other one and fired it's lasers.
"Ahhh. The pain." It said as it used its arms to form a shield. The man in red ignored its gibberish as he stopped firing and pulled out Kalina Ann.
The half-demon switched back to Trickster as he vanished behind the machine. With the metallic dunce not knowing where he is Dante planted the rocket launcher onto the ground. Dante began rushing towards the machine's back and unleashed a flurry of punches and kicks, it's legs were beginning to break.
"Ahh the pain." the Goliath repeated, their lower appendages broke making its upper body fall onto the ground.
Dante rushes up to the machine, brought back his fist and with a grunt he punched the ground engulfing it in a bright light as the machine flew up from the force. Rockets from Kalina Ann were fired at the Goliath keeping it up in the air. Rushing back to the rocket launcher Dante picked it back up and aimed at the machine.
"Jackpot." he said, before releasing a charged missile.
*BOOM*
Pieces of scrap and wires rained onto the ground as Dante watched. Even in another version of Earth he can still kick ass demon or not with style. Grinning at the smoke cloud in the sky he stored away Lady's signature weapon along with Beowulf and made his way back to Jackass.
"W-w-what?" Her eyes were wide as plates.
"H-h-how?" Her body frozen stiff.
"W-who is he?" Her main power reactor was threatening to shut off.
Throughout Jackass' entire life she has seen some unbelievable stuff. Usually she wouldn't be surprised but when she did the scientist can easily hide it. But seeing one man completely obliterate two machines capable of killing 30 Resistance members was something she wouldn't ever expect. Even YoRHa units have a hard time killing these things. The weaponry he currently wields also filled her head with infinite questions.
Those two firearms he had didn't seem common among YoRHa especially the rocket launcher. Seeing it in action made her paralyzed with awe seeing the absolute destruction of the Goliaths at the hands of this strange man.
'Is this a new YoRHa model? But where's his Pod?' Jackass mentally inquired before noticing the man approaching her.
"Hey Miss, are you alright?" She just stared at with her revealed eye for a good solid minute. The devil hunter scratched his head not sure of what to do, but eventually he got a response.
She nodded her head but was still transfixed. 'Great she understands English.' Dante thought to himself as he continued.
"Good to hear. Is there any place you can go to get fixed?" Dante asked as he can see her exposed wires and artificial blood leaking.
'A robot babe huh. This place keeps on getting more interesting.' he chuckled as he waited for a response.
"Y-y-yes." Jack stuttered, struggling to get her words outta her mouth as she spoke in English. The half-demon smiled as she pointed towards the building with fences in-between.
"Over there b-behind the fences." The injured woman looked down knowing she can't make it on her own. With a moment of contemplation she looked back at the man.
"I-I can't move on my own. C-can you help me?" Jackass said hoping he would stay friendly with her.
The Son of Sparda smiled, keeping his friendly tone."Sure. In exchange for some info. I've just woken up and took a wrong turn now I'm lost, so do we have a deal?"
"Yes."
"The name's Dante. What's yours?" The devil hunter asked, picking her up piggyback style.
'Dante? So your not a new toy of White? What are you then?' she thought, looking at his head. He has the same type of hair though.
"Jackass."
"..."
"Dante?" She questioned with no response coming from him.
She felt his body shaking as the white-haired man hid his face. A wave of fear hit her as a theory popped up.
'IS HE GOING TO SELF-DESTRUCT?'
"Oof" the woman grunted, her body met the ground. 'What the hell?' she looked over at Dante who was hunched over with sounds of laughter coming out of him.
"HAHAHAHA! Y-y-you...can't..b...serious. And...I tho-ught...I was...bad at names. HAHAHAHAHA!" Dante kept on laughing, clenched his stomach. 'Oooh this is too good, what type of person will unironically call themselves that?'
His fit was cut short as a rock bounced off the back of his skull. Grunting in pain he turned to see Jackass holding more rocks with a glare threatening him to laugh again.
'Geez. Women can never lighten up can they?' Dante thought as he put his hands up in surrender as his face turned serious.
"All right, all right. I'm sorry." he said as she put down her weapons but still kept her gaze.
Now done with their little feud Dante once again hoisted the scientist back up and walked towards the direction of the fences.
"Asshole." She uttered under her breath but Dante was able to hear it but ultimately decided to ignore it as they made their way onwards.
[Abandoned Factory]
"Alert: Heavydamastandardcommconfirmingtransferringactivatinginititating-"
*Thunk*
Landing onto the floor with grace was 2B and she was alone.
She along with the rest of her team were making their way but the defenses were more than they could've imagined. 12H met her demise early on, followed by 11B shortly after. 7E didn't even see it coming, 1D was too busy clearing their way and didn't see the laser coming for her. 4B managed to outlive longer than the rest and together the battlers were able to make it close to the outskirts of the factory. Once they got close however, her almost identical twin evaded the wrong way into the path of the laser, leaving 2B as the only survivor.
'As long as they've backed up their data no need to worry.' 2B reminded herself as she got up.
"Activating short-range attack gear." 042 emerged from behind as the android brandished out Virtuous Treaty, a white futuristic samurai sword with long reach.
"Alert: Large enemy group detected." her Pod warned her.
"Yes. I'm aware of that."
Machines rained down around the silent android as they begun their assault. Dodging with grace, 2B pierced their armor and exploited their weak points. More and more came from above as she quickly disposed of them. Being an android allowed her to move far more freely and plan more strategies then their enemy.
After twirling Virtuous Treaty she advanced towards Gun-equipped stubbies firing at her. Jumping out of harm's way the woman brought her blade down slicing one in half. Without hesitation she mercilessly sliced into another gunner. The woman charged towards the others and took them out in quick succession.
After the last gunner was dispatched the battler was rewarded with a Medium Biped as it sprinted towards her. It closed their distance and swung at her. The android dodged and countered. She continued this until the machine was no longer able to fight and was kicked into a wall.
"Enemies destroyed." 042 declared but the woman had her suspicions.
"Not quite." 2B said as the ground began to shake. A mechanical giant buzzsaw came bursting through the wall destroying it in the process.
"Is that our target?"
"Negative. This enemy is unrelated."
"Proposal: Dispatch it as swiftly as possible." Her mechanical companion stated the obvious.
"You don't say." She sarcastically retorted.
The contraption started swinging through the room destroying more walls. It swung down onto 2B but she dodged as the last second. The machine seemed to malfunction giving her the opportunity to attack. After a decent amount of blows were dealt it brought back its arm. Now seeing it's attack pattern 2B was prepared for whatever it threw at her.
"Laser communications recovered." Pod said as her operator tried to connect with her.
"2B...trans...Pod..." the connection wasn't at its best but the woman was able to make out what 6O tried to say.
"Pod program download complete." Not wasting anytime she turned towards her companion.
"Pod! Laser!"
In a quick motion 042 aimed at the machine and fire a laser of yellow towards it. It's done a great deal of damage as flames erupted from the buzzsaw. The machine reacted by firing tons and tons of dark energy spheres as it flew towards the YoRHa unit.
"Pod! Fire!" She ordered as 042 took out its mini Gatling gun and begun shooting energy bullets. 2B maneuvered herself out of harm's way as she prepared for another attack from the machine. Sure enough it came right at her and the android dodged and attacked. With the combined efforts of 2B and Pod they managed to deal even more damage than before as the machine began to fall apart.
The buzzsaw raised its head high above ready to deal another strike before being destroyed by missiles. 2B got out of the way as the pieces fell from the air. She looked for the person responsible and found her answer up above.
Inside a YoRHa Flight Unit was a boy wearing a visor and choker. A leather jacket covered his upper body with his faction's insignia engraved on the bottom flaps, with shorts stopping above his knees. Even though it's not visible he wore gloves, socks, boots, and a green pouch wrapped around his chest. The colors of his clothes matched 2B's and even had the same type of hair, his was just done in a male style.
'9S.' 2B thought as she looked at the same face she killed so many times before.
"Better make sure he's actually dead next time. That was dangerous ma'am." The scanner said with a small smile. Landing down in front her 2B walked up to him.
"You're 2B right? My name's 9S. I'm here to provide support." He introduced himself unaware that 2B already knows.
"Copy that." 2B stated firmly.
"Soo was that big ol' buzzsaw the Goliath you came here to take out?" The boy asked curiously.
"No. Just another defensive system."
"Oh. Well, uh...I guess we have to find the target then, huh? Well I got a flight unit, so I'll take a look around the perimeter." 9S said.
"All right. I'll work my way inside from the ground." 2B agreed
The flight unit started up once again and flew out of the area. The silent android watched him leave, her hidden eyes trailing his every move before disappearing out of sight. 2B took in a deep breath before heading into the depths of the factory, determined on finding the target.
[Bunker]
Back in YoRHa headquarters Operators typed away attentively at their monitors. Hearing the news of a brand new Goliath class put some of the blondes on edge. Operators who assigned the mission to the closest YoRHa squadron were in a depressive state after hearing the news of their demise. They sent their back up data so the squad will be rebuilt but the emotional pain they felt couldn't be ignored.
When an Operator gets assigned their unit they become more than just a team, they become lifelong partners. Given some time a relationship develops which heavily varies on their personality type. Some may become best friends, others will stay distant but will still acknowledge the other, and sometimes feelings of affection occur. If one were to fall no doubt the other will mourn.
The operators of 11B, 7E, and 1D were still working just not as fast as they usually are. 12H and 4B's operators went to their rooms unable to bear the news. Only the operators of 2B and 9S worked diligently as they managed to survive thus far. Well one of them was as 2B's operator, 6O was having a mental dilemma. The machine network jammed 2B's connection to the Bunker therefore she wasn't able to reach her.
Which resulted in 6O desperately trying to do everything in her power to strengthen their connection.
'PLEASE DON'T DIE! PLEASE DON'T DIE! PLEASE DON'T DIE! PLEASE DON'T DIE!' the operator mentally screamed. 2B didn't back up her data prior to the mission giving her more of a reason to freak out. Her actions were becoming more infrequent, slamming her fingers onto the keyboard with vigor as her eyes inspected her screen, searching for anything to restore connection. The blonde didn't notice that she was mumbling incoherent things which attracted attention from another operator.
She felt a tap on her shoulder, 6O turned around to find her fellow coworker looking at her with a concerned look.
"Are you alright, 6O?" the operator asked. The childish girl looked at her with wide eyes as she shook herself of her mental breakdown.
"Y-y-yeah. 87O e-everything's fine." She finally responded, turning around rather quickly.
The operator looked at her unamused. "6O."
"Y-yes?"
"She didn't back up her data again, did she?"
"...yes." the childish operator answered timidly.
The woman got up from her desk and went right beside her. 6O looked up at her.
"Hey now, don't freak out you know 2B can't go down without a fight." She put a hand on her shoulder. Which was true the silent android was known to have a lot of combat experience.
"I know but-she always puts me on edge. Every time 2B does a mission she sends her back up data at the last minute. She has me so worried because what if this time she doesn't? I-I don't want her to die." 6O explained.
"2B is going to be fine. She was the same person that dealt with 25 machines with her fists alone. She's a tough nut to crack, so ease up a bit will ya?" The older operator assured her.
"I-I guess your right." 6O looked down. Her tone was now calmer but she was still afraid for 2B's safety. 87O patted her on the back for reassurance.
*Blip* They both looked at the screen.
It wasn't blurry as before which only meant one thing. 6O's face lit-up and she immediately went back to work, completely forgetting 87O's presence. The senior operator however, smiled and went back to her station. As she sat down the woman looked up to see if Commander came back only to find her absent.
'Strange, what did Commander see to make herself go to the R&D team.' Apparently, after receiving data regarding the subject in red the network automatically sent it to Commander. Not giving any of the operators a second to look over it. Sadly she's never going to get the answer, whenever something like this happens Commander never informs anyone else about it as far as she knows. 87O could only sigh before going back to work.
"72S can you confirm it?" asked YoRHa's leader. Currently the Commander was in the R&D room where they manufacture and analyze numerous equipment, objects, and information. She ordered everyone but the head-of-command out leaving the two of them alone.
"Yes, Commander these statistics do match the data of Old World weaponry." said the scanner model. On his HUD was a description of Semi-Automatic Pistols, with a picture of the gun used centuries ago.
After receiving the data regarding the subject in red Commander immediately went to the R&D room, not believing what she was seeing. Changing the network systems was a good call on her part. The last thing she needs is the whole Bunker going about with such vital information.
Sure there's going to be questions since the assigned operators and units know about the subject in red existing but she'll deal with that when the time comes.
'M1911 pistols, how did this individual get a hold of such ancient weapons? They must've modified them if it can tear through machines with such ease.' she thought, remembering the image of metal filled with bullet holes that was sent from 11B.
Stroking her chin White closed her eyes and continued on.
"And the weapon that is capable of forming ice?"
"I'm...I'm not sure about that one Commander. I've made numerous calculations and observations but I can't draw any logical conclusions on how a weapon can do such a thing." 72S explained bewildered at the data his boss gave him.
'Great. More holes that I can't fill.' White thought disappointingly. Not to mention 7E's report of the subject potentially having weapons on par with YoRHa's. Her power core started to pulse at the thought of the potential danger this being can bring onto them.
"The DNA sample, can you analyze it?" the white-clad blonde asked. This however intrigued her the most. Out of all the things the squadron found a DNA sample wasn't something White expected.
"Currently analyzing it now Commander. Just give it a couple of minutes." 72S gestured to the main screen of the room showing data slowly pop up.
White just stared at the screen with a determined expression. She will decipher the mysteries of the anomaly, no matter what.
"Commander?"
"What is it?" She said her eyes glued to the screen.
"I've gotten a message from one of the operators regarding an SOS signal from the desert." he shyly stated as he was saw something attached to the message. Through his visor his eyes widened.
"Send a rescue team. I don't see why I'm needed to hear such a thing." she said with a harsh tone. He slowly turned to face her, he appeared timid.
"That's not it. There's something else." the scanner's voice was filled with concern. Hearing 72S' reply she turned to him and then to his screen.
On said screen showed a white-haired man with blue attire. He wielded a broad sword as he engaged combat with a YoRHa unit.
"Your not worthy enough to be my opponent."
Commander got closer now with a perplexed look on her face.
'An android engaging with one of my soldiers, not unheard of but still strange. His clothing doesn't match with the Resistance and I've never issued an order to construct a scanner with that build.' she noted, his hair frighteningly resembled 72S's.
Even more peculiar is the dialect he's speaking. A dialect that the world seems to have forgotten. The same one she used to talk and banter with a certain scientist before taking on the leadership of YoRHa.
'Who is this man?'
A chart appeared beside the video showing the statistics of the male's body. It began to fill up with words.
Oxygen 65%
Calcium 1.5%
Potassium 0.4%
Sodium 0.2%
White became puzzled as more data was appearing. These words weren't associated with an Android, machine, or anything familiar to her for that matter.
What could this mean? A glow at the bottom of the chart caught her gaze. Everything became silent as her green eyes stayed transfixed on the final words.
Result: Male is made up of 100% organic material.
Conclusion: Male is a human.
"human..." she whispered. Her chest felt heavy, her processors threatened to go offline. The hardened and imposing Commander found herself in a state that she only experienced once before. Back when she was told about everything.
'There's...there's no way...it-it can't be...they're dead. THEY'RE DEAD SO WHERE WAS HE ALL THIS TIME?' White's mind went rampant. Many calculations and theories went throughout her head, desperately trying to find an answer.
The battle of Earth rested on the belief of humans still living on the moon. A belief that made sure every single Android kept on fighting so one day the humans will return, humans that weren't really there from the beginning. A belief that hid the system of deception and demise. The countless amount of androids that died in their name filled her heart with guilt knowing their deaths were for nothing. The number of desertions the faction faced time and time again only to lead to more death so the world wouldn't find out. But now-
Her mind halted.
But now that isn't the case, because he's here, a human is here. A human that can fix this fucked up world. He can bring true meaning to everything. Her face lit-up at the thought, but then it became mortified when she remembered that he was in combat with one of her soldiers. She proceeded to watch the video silently praying that nothing fatal happens to him.
Androids were made to be faster and stronger than humans, so it became very surprising for White to see the man hold his own. As the video progressed the human surrounded himself with what appeared to be phantom swords and White was fascinated at the stunt. A text box appeared at the top left of the screen showing a hypothesis of it being related to old world magic.
'Magic?' The word seemed foreign but also familiar to her. The old-world had magic but that's all she knew and the same goes for everyone. The practice of the art was so old that the last known user was sighted many millennia ago. She'll have to look into the databanks for that one.
The human was skilled in his own right, that she had to admit. Every move he made was calculated, his skills with a blade shined, and he dodged whenever he needed to. It was something truly admirable to the white-clad blonde, his performance will have to be analyzed, privately of course this footage can't be viewed by just anybody. Near the end the YoRHa Unit seemingly got the upper hand, she predicted his attacks and countered furiously, Commander's eyes narrowed at her actions, malice slowly taking over her systems. It was at the point where 6H went for the killing blow that the screen almost broke in her iron grip, but to her and the healer's surprise the human retaliated with newfound strength and speed and completely overwhelmed the unit.
The video ended with the human leaving the scene and White was filled with emotions. Part of her was relieved to see him come out unscathed, another questioned the fighting prowess of the human but the rest was worried for his safety. Sure he can hold his own against a healer unit which is a very impressive feat alone but the harsh environment and the nearby machines lingering around completely washed over her senses. She can't let the machines get to him, the very thought of what they might do to him filled her with so much dread.
The image of 6H appeared shortly after, and the leader's face scowled. She didn't notice the tap on her shoulder. Upon the third attempt she finally reacted and faced 72S who she forgot was in the same room as her.
"She-she didn't know it at the time. The results came in after the-the human left." 72S said, taking a step back, terrified of the look she gave him.
White realized what she was doing and quickly regained her composure before looking back at him with her signature cold face.
"Order the rescue team to retrieve the Unit now. Send another team to search the area for the human. I want their safety to be their top priority." She ordered. "Y-yes you got it." the scanner stuttered as he types away at a separate screen.
"Analysis Complete."
White turned to look at the room's monitor. After finding out the existence of a human Commander thought she had her fill of surprises for the day.
Oh how wrong she was.
Going back to the video she alternated looking back and forth between the screens.
"No way." She uttered emotionally. The data from the monitor and video matched with one another.
The discovery of finding out the existence of a race that was long since extinct that they treated as their gods would bring any Android to tears. Commander suppressed these emotions, she can't let anyone see her in such a state, it took everything she had to deny her body from breaking down from seeing one human. That was until the discovery of another member of the human race, and at that point her body got the best of her as tears started to break through.
"Another one." White cried profusely at the discovery, hands desperately wiping away at her face. 72S, who was probably the first ever person to see her like this immediately went to her side.
"Commander are you alright?" the boy asked, his answer was more of quiet bawling from his boss. Dumbfounded at the leader's actions he looked over to the monitor occupying the wall and was left with an open jaw. White covered her mouth in joy as her eyes kept shedding translucent oil.
'Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.' It seems the gods of the universe have granted her another gift.
[City Ruins]
'This better be worth it.' Dante thought as he hopped over a ledge. On his back was an injured Jackass. Far away bunch of fences and barbwire covered an alleyway between a set of decrepit buildings.
"There it is, over there." Jackass pointed with a smile.
"I know. I have eyes." The white-haired man commented only to receive a slap to his cheek.
"Stop being a smartass and just go." the woman barked.
For the past 20 minutes Dante kept on receiving hit after hit for every remark he made after the woman spoke. Usually he doesn't have a problem with it but it's the fact that she always hit him in the same spot over and over again. Like what gives? There's so much variety when it comes to the face so why doesn't she hit something different? Without having something to look into Dante has no idea if his cheek was pink or not. He doesn't wanna meet others if half of his face looks devil hunter sighed and decided to keep his mouth shut for now.
If it wasn't for Jackass' condition they would've made it there in no time. He tried to pick up the pace earlier but had to slow it down due to her voice telling him to stop.
"So what type of model are you?" the scientist asked which caught him off guard.
"What?"
"What type of model are you? I've never seen someone like you around. And I'm 100% sure your aren't part of YoRHa despite some similarities." Jackass explained.
"What's yogurt?" Dante misheard. The woman looked at him funny but continued.
"You ain't never heard of YoRHa? You must be some old model before they were created then." the woman exclaimed.
Not sure if he should tell her the truth or not he ultimately decided to go along with it.
"Yeah. I've just woke up after being turned off for some time and now I don't know where I am." Dante restated his lie in hopes she wouldn't notice. Luckily she didn't, much to his relief.
"Oh so what year did you get deactivated?" She asked curiously not knowing Dante was mentally cursing at her.
'Shit. Does this world even share the same year with mines.' the devil hunter thought. They were now under a wreckage of a highway with a shallow creek kicking against his boots.
"I...can't really remember."
"Really? You should go under maintenance when we get to camp then." Jackass suggested. Thinking quickly Dante thought up of an answer.
"It's fine. I'm sure it wasn't that long." he said this time however, Jackass detected suspicion. With a raised brow Jackass spoke to him once more.
"So I guess I don't need to tell you about the humans then." The devil hunter stopped his trek.
'Bingo.'
"What happened to the humans?" he turned to look at her only to see Jackass with a suspicious look on her face.
"Why are you lying to me?" She threw at him. Dante stayed silent.
"Well?" Jackass waited with a smirk. The man continued to stare at her.
5 seconds later and still no response. The scientist began to wonder if she broke him or not. Only to have her fall onto the shallow water with a sword pointed at her head.
"Did your kind kill them?"
Looking up at the man, the woman saw pure rage all over his face. He wasn't playing around this time. Gulping in fear Jackass backed up. Dante reached down and gripped her by the hair. He lifted her up to his level and repeated the question.
"Did"
"Your"
"Kind"
"Kill"
"Them?"
Dante gazed at her with piercing blue eyes, the corners of the scleras had a hint of red. Jackass could only stared wide-eyed at the devil hunter not suspecting this change in attitude. Not getting sort of answer out of her he placed his sword by her throat and-
"LET HER GO!"
Looking to his left the devil hunter saw a pistol pointed to his head. Holding said pistol was Anemone. Behind her were four of her troops pointing their guns at him as well. She was speaking this world's native language but he didn't need a translator to know what she wanted.
Dante put Jackass and Rebellion down, raising his hands in surrender. Two of Anemone's troops went to aid Jackass while the other two stayed with their leader still having their guns drawn at him. Anemone kept her gaze as she bent down and picked up Rebellion.
"Take Jackass to the medical bay. Keep this man under watch. I have questions for him." The Resistance leader ordered. The 2 troops picked up Jackass while the rest surrounded the devil hunter nudging him towards the camp.
The troops carrying the scientist were in the front with Dante surrounded by Anemone and the rest following behind. Jackass looked back at Dante with scared eyes only to see him looking back at her with the same threatening expression. She quickly turned back fearing of what he might do if given the chance.
Unbeknownst to them were two small figures in the distance watching the entire ordeal. They been following the pair for quite some time, all of their attention centered at the devil hunter. Seeing his sudden change in demeanor was surprising to them and now had on looks of curiosity. After the group left towards the camp the figures turned to each other and nodded.
A second later the pair disappeared without a trace.
