"Hi there. My name is Ruby. I'm your new roommate." The girl in the doorway said. Her silver eyes connect to a lone amber one. The owner of said eye simply opened the door to allow the smaller girl in.

The smaller girl took it and when she looked back to see her roommate she found a door that was closing with no one else in the room. She had simply left without saying a word. "Well. That's odd. Maybe… maybe this won't be as good of a year as I thought." Ruby scratched her arm over her hoodie a bit then decided to get back to setting up her half of the room.

One side of the room had been obviously lived in so Ruby started to settle on the other one. She laid her backpack on the floor in front of her. She lamented her inability to bring her computer but had settled on a laptop instead for the portability. She laid that on the desk and took what little clothing she had, which consisted of compression sleeves and tank tops. As well as leggings and pants. All of her clothing, underwear included, filled only one drawer of her dresser.

At that point the door opened and the girl from earlier appeared. Ruby smiled a bit as she saw her and got to get an actually really good look at her. "No gay thought! Begone!" Even as that thought passed through her head she couldn't help but admire the beautiful girl in front of her. She stood a full head taller than Ruby. Wearing short sleeves confidently and a pair of nice, new looking blue jeans.

"Hi. Again. M-my name is Ruby! Oh! But I already said that huh? I'm… I'm sorry." She blurted out trying to ease some of the tension in the air. Cinder then strode over to her own bed and flopped down. Her eye not quite leaving Ruby.

After what seemed like an eternity, but was ultimately a few seconds she spoke. "Yes. You did." Her voice was quiet, and a bit raspy. "I'm Cinder." She tried not to come off as mean or rude. And it was noticeable.

"So… why did you leave when I got here? You weren't gone for that long?" Ruby asked curiously. Thinking maybe she had offended her somehow. But at this point cinder seemed to be staring through her, rather than at her. "Umm hello?" She waved her hand in front of Cinders face, which snapped her out of her trance.

"Umm. I'm sorry, what did you ask me?" She asked, looking slightly embarrassed at the fact that she had zoned out completely. She looked at Ruby again, this time clearly focused in.

"I asked why you left when I first got here." Ruby asked again, patiently reiterating herself. "Then you looked all spacey. Are you alright?" She asked.

"Oh. I'm fine. Just a little lost in thought." She chuckled. "I left to get you this. I had forgotten to get it this morning." And she held a key ring out towards Ruby. "It's the dorm and mail keys. You'll need them."

"Oh thanks! How'd you manage to get these in the five minutes you were gone?" Ruby asked, curious how she got to the reception center and back.

"Ruby. I was gone for almost an hour." She said with a small giggle. "Do you always lose track of time this easily?"

"Oh great. Now she's gonna think I'm stupid." Ruby lamented internally. "Oh, I guess it has been, heh." She moved to her bed and looked back up to Cinder. "So. How do you wanna do this, the whole not eventually hating each other thing?"

"Oh that's simple. Don't be an asshat and we won't have a problem." Cinder said, sounding as if she didn't really want to talk. That point seemed further proven by the way she laid down and rolled over. "My classes are usually later in the day. Other than that I don't do much."

"Oh. Okay." Ruby sighed audibly. "Great. She hates me." She falls back so she's looking up at the ceiling, spread out with one hand on her head. "This is going to be a long year."

The door closed behind Cinder after she had let her new roommate in and she leaned up against it with a slight blush to her cheeks. "Dear god she is ADORABLE!" She thought to herself. Then she used an arm to steady herself as she stood back up and cleared her throat. She had the key ring she was supposed to give the girl in her pocket but she needed to calm down and regain her composure before she went back in there.

She turned and saw a brown haired woman heading toward her. She wore a simple brown t-shirt. With brown pants, slacks maybe?, and white gloves. "Cinder Fall!" She as she approached.

Cinder audibly moaned. "Yes Velvet?" She asked. Her current only friend strode up to her angrily. "Wait. Don't tell me. You're here to yell at me cause I didn't make it to therapy right?" Cinder asked with a sigh. Anytime she missed an appointment Velvet showed up to yell at her.

"That's exactly why I'm here, Cinder! I didn't talk my mom into seeing you for free for you to blow her off! Now match your ass down stairs and go to your appointment." She sighed. "Jeez. You could at least spare a half hour of your day."

"Oh. Sure. But maybe we could have led with 'hi Cinder my good friend, how have you been?' Instead of just yelling at me out the gate. I'm doing well by the way." Cinder said with a smile as she headed for the staircase. "I guess we can do this first."

However when Cinder turned to head down the hall in the direction of the stair she heard a small, "I'm sorry." Come from behind her. Velvet had again become her meek self. "It's just, my mom is really mad about it this time. Sorry if I projected a bit."

"I'm sorry too Vel. The reason I didn't make it was because I had to wait for my new roommate to show up so I could give her the keys. Which I forgot to do." Cinder said, holding up a key ring identical to her own. "So yeah. Sorry."

"You should have at least called." Velvet said as she walked up to Cinder and placed her hand on the other's shoulder. "Look. I'll get a hold of my mom. Don't worry about going today okay?"

"No. You're right. You went out of your way for this. Least I could do is show." With that cinder turned motioning for her friend to follow her as she headed down the hall.

After another half hour, and a good cry later Cinder was by her own dorm door again. It had been a full hour since she had left. And she felt bad for the way she had done it. She opened the door and saw Ruby, whom she had dubbed as 'the cute one.' Until she remembered her name that is. She flopped on her bed and looked at Ruby. She was saying something but the only part out of everything she had heard was "Hi. Again. M-My name is Ruby, but I already told you that." Before she started rambling while looking embarrassed.

"Yes. You did." She said, her words coming out slightly colder than she wanted them too. After a few seconds She decided She should give say hers. "I'm Cinder." She said with what she hoped was a small smile but it only amounted to a smirk. At best. "Oh my god she's so cute. Please gay thoughts stop me from making a move on her here and now!"

"Umm. Hello?" Was the next thing she heard. That combined with the hand gently waving in her face snapped her out of her thoughts. Realizing her so called "gay thoughts" had caused her to miss something meant for her.

"Umm. I'm sorry, what did you ask me?" She asked. "I really hope this doesn't become a pattern." This girl, Ruby, seemed to be a patient person as she didn't seem bothered by it at all. And if she was she didn't show it. "Great. She's gonna think I'm a spaz now."

"I asked why you left when I first got here. And then you got all spacey one me. Are you alright?" She asked with an innocence that betrayed her.

"Oh. I'm fine. Just a little lost in thought." She chuckled. "I left to get you this. I had forgotten to get it this morning." She lied, as she pulled out a key ring. The one she'd had all day as she waited for Ruby to show up. "It's the dorm and mail keys. You'll need these."

"Oh thanks! How'd you manage to get these in the five minutes you were gone?" She seemed confused. Cinder quickly checked her watch to confirm how long she was gone.

"Ruby, I was gone for an hour." She giggled out. Looking at the girl in front of her in curiosity. "Time must have flown by while she unpacked."

"Oh, I guess it has been, heh." She moved to her bed and looked back up to Cinder. To Cinder she seemed a little nervous. "So. How do you wanna do this, the whole not eventually hating each other thing?"

Cinder gave it some thought as she laid down and rolled over, mostly to hide her own slight blush at some of her thoughts. "Oh that's simple. Don't be an asshat and we won't have a problem." She said, which again, came out a bit colder than she had meant for it too.

The only thing she heard from Ruby's direction was a sigh with a slight "Oh. Okay." Following it. "Great. She probably thinks I hate her. Damn this stupid blush!" Cinder herself sighed. "Long year indeed."
