Chapter 14: Newsflash

Gajeel POV

It's been three months since we came back from the shared mission. Lucy and Erik have visited the guild frequently, but it's been a week now since anyone has seen either of them. Two months ago, I moved out of Lucy's apartment and into Laxus' house. He has officially asked me to move in with him shortly after the mission.

-Flashback-

We just got back from the mission a week ago. Once we got to Waas Forest, we found the gemstone fairly quickly. During the hike back to Magnolia, Laxus and I stayed mostly separated from Lucy and Erik. Mainly to give them some privacy, but also because the two of us haven't really had a lot of bonding time during the mission. Even now as we're talking after this mission, it's about keeping Lucy safe from Ivan.

"Perhaps we could ask Freed to install some protective runes around Lucy's apartment?" I suggest.
Laxus stops dead in his tracks, looking shocked and slightly embarrassed. He cursed silently.
"What is it? Did I say something wrong?"
"No, it's actually a brilliant plan. I just don't know why I hadn't thought of it myself." We arrive at the guild and Laxus pushes open the big doors. Immediately after I see Juvia and Lucy waving at us."I'll go talk to Freed. You go ahead and catch up with Juvia. I'm sure she missed you. I'll see you later." Laxus gently squeezes my hand.
I nod at him and we each go our separate ways.

As I'm talking to Juvia and Lucy, I lose all concept of time. I had no idea it was already getting late. That is, until I see Laxus strolling towards us.
"Are you ready to head out?"
"Yeah, I think so. Juvia, I'll see you tomorrow?"
"Absolutely! Goodnight, Gajeel. Goodnight, Laxus." She waves at us and packs up her bag to leave as well. Lucy left a little while ago with Erik.

As we're walking back to Lucy's apartment, Laxus seems lost in thought. I grab onto his hand and look at him curiously. "What's on your mind, Sparky?"
He swallows thickly before looking at me. "I was just thinking. Would you like to move in with me? Or would that be too fast?"
I stop walking and simply look at him, my eyes open wide in shock. "Are you being serious right now? You really want that?"
Laxus steps in front of me and takes hold of my free hand before looking into my eyes. "I'm dead serious, Gajeel. So what do you think about it?"
The way he says my name has me nodding my head furiously before I can finally speak. "I'd like that very much."
"Perfect. Let's go collect your stuff from the apartment." Laxus smiles brightly before dragging me along.

-Flashback ends-

"Gajeel! I missed you. Where have you been?" Juvia looks at me with a sad expression.
I simply chuckle at her expression. "Juvia, I saw you just yesterday. Are you okay?" I softly pat her head and look at her curiously.
She pouts and hugs my arm. "I miss Lucy. I demand we go see her. Right now."
"Alright, we'll go visit them. Just give me a minute." I turn towards the bar and call out to Mira. "Morning, Mira. Can I get a large strawberry milkshake to-go and some of those toxic plant bites you have? Juvia and I are gonna visit Lucy and Erik, apparently."
Mira smiles brightly and nods. "Absolutely, Gajeel. Please tell them I said 'hi'. Mira hands me a little box with toxic plant bites for Erik before she starts mixing up a milkshake for Lucy. I hand her the jewels for everything.
"Will do. See ya!" I grab the shake and start walking out of the guild, Juvia hot on my heels.

"Gajeel, where is Laxus? Juvia hasn't seen him in a while."
I smile softly at her concern. "Laxus is on a mission with his team. They should be back tomorrow, if I'm not mistaken."
"I think you two are very cute together. Laxus seems less grumpy when he's around you. Less scary."
I can't help but chuckle at her honesty. "You think he's scary. I never got that feeling from him."
"Yeah, well you didn't know him until you joined. When I tell you he was scary, I mean he was really scary."
"Okay, okay. I believe you. To me he just looked like a playboy." We both laugh at my first impression of Laxus before realising we already made it to Lucy's apartment. Juvia knocks on the door and we wait patiently for an answer.

It's Erik who opens the door. "Uh, hey guys. What are you doing here?"
I point at juvia. "Someone was desperate to see Lucy. We did bring goodies for both of you." I hold up the little box and the milkshake.
"Well come on in, Lucy is just in the bathroom. She'll be glad to see the both of you."
Juvia steps into the apartment first, while I hand over the plant bites to Erik. "Mira says 'hi'." At that moment Lucy walks into the room and smiles when she sees us. She looks a few shades paler than usual. Is she sick?

"Hey there, Bunny. How are you doing?"
She silently walks up to us and embraces us both. Something is definitely up with her. I hand her the milkshake and her eyes turn sad. I can swear her face almost becomes a shade of green.
"Are you alright, Bunny? Did something happen? Are you sick?"
She simply shakes her head while putting the milkshake on the table. "No, I'm not sick. I'm quite well actually. I just haven't been able to enjoy my milkshakes for a while. I can't stand the smell of them anymore."
Looks at her in confusion before looking at me. 'How is that possible? Lucy has always loved her milkshakes.'
Erik moves to stand behind Lucy and he wraps his arms around her. I notice how one of his hands rests in her tummy, before realising that her tummy looks slightly swollen. 'Could it be?' I look at both of them in shock.

Erik simply nods at me, knowing exactly what I thought of. "Gajeel figured it out, Bright Eyes."
Juvia's head snaps in my direction. "Figured out what? Tell me what it is, Gajeel."
"I'm pregnant, Juvia. We're expecting a baby." Tears well up in Lucy's eyes and she beams. She's looking pale, probably from morning sickness or something, but at the same time she's absolutely glowing. How did I not notice this before?
I hold out my hand towards Erik to shake his hand, before changing my mind and pulling him in for a hug. "Congrats, man" After that I pull back and hug Lucy as well. "Congrats, Bunny. I'm so happy for the both of you." I wipe the tears from her cheeks before giving her a soft kiss on her forehead.
"Thank you, Gajeel. This means a lot for both of us."
Juvia hugs both of them and congratulates them as well. All of a sudden realisation hits her. "How do you think Laxus will react to being an uncle?"

I freeze as I hear a shocked gasp coming from the entryway. "I'm going to be a what?"
