"Hey, Joy Readers...?" Jessica said, addressing the one show followed her online YouTube channel. "You still there? Well, if you are, then you will probably agree with me that this was crazy. And let me tell you, it was even more impressive up close."
She was referring to what she had just witnessed. To the fact that she saw, first hand, what could have only been a mage battle. Like the ones people saw on episodes of "Path of a Lonely Mage". And this one that just developed was one that some could say that rivaled the fighting scenes showed on the aforementioned show.
That should be enough to give me that thousand subscribers I have been aiming for... Jessica thought as she looked at the leftover carnage of the battle, with broken pieces of the golden clockwork constructs laying all around, with pieces of shell, robotic arms and legs and gears laying all around. And, on the center of it all, was Yuki Hayashi, bowing to those two things she summoned while she was watched by both Jessica with her phone and all those soldiers.
Little did any of them knew that this was not over yet.
A loud, screeching roar pierced through the air, causing everyone to turn to see some really big constructs of the same kind of the ones Yuki trashed come flying and into smithereens. Their broken pieces laid all around, as something much bigger came after them.
"What is that now!?" Duncan asked in horror as the big, black thing with red visors and a mark on its chest glowing on the same shade of red, made its way forward. Followed right after by a man in white suits.
"My, oh my, what a mess..." Vaux said as he made his way from behind his minion, looking at the resulting carnage from the battle he was not present to see, and he could not help but be impressed by it.
"You!" Dash said, stepping forward and causing Vaux to look his way. Soon, the man of the army was accusing the mage of having anything to do with this.
"Me? All I did was fight those things." Vaux said to Dash as he said those words to him. "But I have to admit, they might be here because of me... this seems like the work of a Caster." He said the last part to himself, but Dash was relentless.
"Those things killed men on their way in!" He demanded. "If they were after you, then this means that the people who they killed is on you! What, is this the work of some mage who was after you? Did you piss someone off!?"
"Oh, give it a rest, Callaghan!" Vaux said to him, "You are being obnoxious right now!"
"My friends have died because of you, asshole!" Dash said to the made in white clothes. "They were good people with families!"
"Well, sorry for that." Vaux shrugged. "But, what can I say? Wars come with casualties!"
"We are not at war!"
"I am." Vaux said, "And you made the mistake of being close enough to me that you ended up caught on the crossfire."
"You bastard!" Dash said, reaching for his gun. By seeing this, the black giant turned to him, the light on its visor and chest glowing even harder. The creature acted like it was getting ready for attacking.
The two creatures by Yuki's side, being programmed to recognize signs of aggression and to react to them as if they were actual threats, wasted no time into going into action. Yuki didn't had time to order them to stop as they rushed towards the giant, jumping as they lifted their arms getting ready to deliver kung fu moves into the big creature and break it apart just like they did with the bigger golden being.
What happened next was so fast that everyone around took at least three seconds to understand it.
The black giant swung its sword with blinding speed, destroying the two beings that fought off the golden one with a single swing. They reverted to their miniature, limbless doll versions. They were broken to bits pieces, shattered in half and completely ruined.
"HEY!" Yuki cried out as she saw her dolls being destroyed. "My mother left those for me!"
She then pulled two pieces of paper, throwing them both into the air.
"Fujin! Raijin! Attack together!"
With this spell, the two pieces of paper spun together as if caught in a circular gust of wind, disintegrating together into a single glowing spot, which them unleashed a beam towards the black creature. Said beam was a lightning, with all its energy focused into a straight stream, being very similar to a laser beam which was aimed right at the being who destroyed her precious familiars.
It hit it square in the chest, causing the being to flinch as the sheer strength of the beam forced it back, causing its feet to drag across the ground as it was pushed backwards by the attack.
However, other than that, the creature showed no visible damage to the blow, as the beam had caused no apparent effect other than the smoke coming out from the spot it hit the creature, right in the chest.
However, that didn't mean that the event was any less impressive for anyone watching. Including Vaux.
Such a potent spell. And she cast it so fast! The mage in white looked at the girl as he was thinking this. This girl is no ordinary mage, that's for sure... maybe I can convince her to help me?
"Excuse me, lady?" Vaux said, looking at Yuki as he stepped forward. "You want to fight me and my familiar? You want a duel? Well, in that case, what about you introduce yourself properly instead of just attacking like a savage? We are all gentlemen here, right?"
Yuki looked at him, and she was about to say something back, when she noticed something that made her stop.
Vaux also noticed it, as he turned to look as behind him, the black giant was shaking, causing the metal to rattle.
Another sound was being heard along with the rattling of the metal. It sounded like a groan. Like an angry groan.
"H-hey!" Vaux looked as his creature dropped the sword and started to tremble harder. A loud clanking sound was heard, and then the left forearm came loose, dropping to the ground and revealing what was hidden underneath.
"Hey!"
The creature trembled even harder, the groan becoming louder as more clanking was heard. The right foot came undone, pieces of covering fallen into the ground, while the rest of the leg started coming loose.
"Stop it!" Vaux demanded. "Stop it now!"
More clanks came, and it seemed that the chest itself was coming loose, while everyone could look as it seemed that the machine was coming undone by itself.
Was it a consequence of Yuki's attack?
Well, only partially. But it was mostly because something was sick and tired of being contained.
"Berserker!" Vaux looked at the creature. "I am giving you an order! Stop this now!"
The thing, called "Berserker", answered by tossing its head back and letting out a metallic yell, which was then followed by a "BANG" louder than a cannon firing. Pieces of the black shell flew everyone, being ejected violently in all directions. Everyone gave a step back, while Vaux himself was threw back by the violence of the release, landing with his back on the ground and groaning as he got up.
All around, pieces of the shell lay, before they started to quickly dissolve into black dust, which vanished into the air, being taken by the wind. However, even that was little compared to what everyone was seeing now that the shell was off.
They could see the inside of the machine.
And they now knew it was not a machine.
It was a person!
It was a man wearing a bottom half of a tunic made of dark tissue, the armor that had been covering his body now gone, exposing his muscular frame. So muscular that his arms were as thick as tree trunks, the same for his legs. He was just as tall as he seemed to be with the armor, standing three times as tall as the tallest person either Duncan or his uncle ever saw. He had long black hair, with eyes of a dark coloration.
The more striking thing about this man's appearance, other than his massive size, was the fact that every inch of his skin, from his feet up to his face, where covered in red. Deep, crimson red, certainly the result of paint, with spirals and trims of black coloration running everywhere.
"That thing was actually a guy wearing an armor!?" One of the soldiers screamed in shock. He seemed to have been the first one who recovered from the shock of the discovery enough to voice his surprise.
However, he, along with the others, was soon realizing that there was something off about the guy who was the machine.
It was not the fact that he was so big. No, it was something else. Something strange. Something about the way he looked. About the way his muscles bulged as he took deep breaths, as taking them for the first time after being locked away for too long. Something about the way his body moved as he lowered his arms, and then stretched his neck and back as if they were cramped from being in an enclosed space for longer than he should.
There was something about him that was... wrong. Just wrong.
They knew right away that there was no way that man could be human.
And what was about to happen confirmed this fact to all of them.
The man then turned his dark eyes to the woman in the distance. The woman who attacked him. He locked eyes with her for a moment, and then he moved.
He jumped, so fast and hard that it caused others to be confused for a moment as now there was a dust cloud where the gigantic man had just been. They soon caught him in the air, flying in direction to Yuki. He landed on the ground in front of her so hard it caused the concrete to crack under his bare feet and caused Yuki to give a step back in surprise.
She looked up at him, and the man looked down at her with those dark eyes.
Eyes devoid of anything resembling humanity. Eyes that looked at her the same way an animal would. A rabbit animal who was ready to tear her apart.
Seeing those animalistic eyes looking down at her caused Yuki to have an animalistic answer. That of fighting for her life.
She charged her fist with magical energy and swung it right at the face of the huge man.
He stopped her fist by grabbing it with his hand, which was so much bigger than Yuki's that it was like and adult holding the hand of a small child. Yuki certainly seemed like a small child, as she tried to pull her hand free from the red giant's, only to fail miserably and look like she was not even managing to annoy the man.
"H-hey!" Duncan was able to snap out of his shocked trance as she witnessed it. "Let her go!"
That was when Yuki decided to act again. This time, she swung her leg, the entire foot charged with magical energy as she made a split while moving her leg up, hitting the giant right into the temple with a powerful impact that would have shattered the skull of a normal man.
On this giant being, however, all it did was cause the man's head to tilt to the side as the blow connected, a light bruising left behind by the kick.
For a moment, he remained where he was. Then, he started growling.
A deep, throaty growl that was not much different from that of a wild wolf, as he glared at the girl who had just kicked him in the face.
A spark of the purest fear ignited in Yuki's heart, as she realized she made a terrible mistake just now.
However, that did not stop the giant, as he lifted his other hand and, in a flash of light, an axe that matched his massive size materialized from thin air.
"No!" Duncan was charging forward before he knew what he was doing, ignoring the cries of both Mike and his uncle as he grabbed the first thing he could get his hands on, the metallic remains of one of the automatons Yuki destroyed, and then rushed towards the giant as he was lifting his axe, getting ready to swing it down at the girl.
"Leave her alone!"
Duncan swung the broken mechanical arm he had on his hands as hard as he could, and it collided with the giant's face.
The giant stopped, and then slowly turned his head to look at the boy who hit him.
The swing of that broken object caused considerably less damage than Yuki's kick. Actually, it caused no damage at all. However, it was still enough to get the giant's attention, as he was now looking at the boy with curious eyes, tilting his head slightly to the side as he examined the boy.
That was when Dash Callaghan gave an order:
"Fire!"
Soon, the remaining men were firing at the giant, causing his attention to shift from the boy and girl to them as they fired at him. Duncan dove to the ground as the gunshots began, while Yuki, using of this chance, swung his open palm at the monster's wrist, shocking him enough that he let go of her hand, allowing her to grab Duncan by the arm and make him run with her to they could get away.
"Keep firing! Bring that thing down!" Dash ordered to his men, as he himself fired the few bullets he had left on that thing, aiming for both the head and the chest, hoping that, now that the thing no longer had the armor, it would be easier to kill it by hitting something vital.
However, it seemed that it made no difference if the giant was with or without armor, as the bullets just bounced off his skin, producing no effect at all on that monster shaped like a massive man. He didn't even seem to notice the bullets at all.
"The grenades!" Dash said, and his men all tossed the grenade they had left, all of which landed on the massive man's feet, who stood where he was as the objects exploded, causing a cloud of dust and debris to lift, while many people covered their eyes as the explosion happened, and everyone in there then looked anxiously at the event happening, all of them wanting to see if the explosions had taken off the monster.
They didn't. He was still there. Still standing in the middle of the field as the dust and smoke cleared, not showing a single wound from what happened.
Then, the monster started to growl again.
And the markings on his body moved.
The black spirals alongside his chest and belly and chest started to move. They gathered into those areas as they spun, creating solid black circles that then started to fill with other colors. Green, blue, yellow and orange.
Then, they started to swell and to expand, as if they were pustules growing right before their very eyes. Huge pustules that moved and twitched as the man stood still.
Then, one of them sprouted an arm.
Everyone watched in astonishment as the pustules took human form, dropping out of the giant's body like ripe fruit falling from a tree, and quickly getting up. They were originally naked, but clothes quickly materialized in them, taking the form of tunics and armors, as well as weapons like maces, flails, swords and spears. Those creatures were each of a different color, and they were slightly bigger than an average human and with muscular bodies. However, what was more shocking about their looks was that each one of those creatures completely lacked eyes, nose or mouth, having only smooth, painted surfaces where their faces should be.
"What the F#$%!?"
The creatures then charged, attacking the soldiers with their new weapons while the soldiers screamed and fired back at them.
"...so that's basically it." Killian Savoy finished explaining to Toby and Kenn, who were both only able to look back at the man with vacant expressions as they assimilated everything the mage just told them.
About the ritual they witnessed last night, and about the five new individuals who materialized out of nothingness as a result said ritual.
Said individuals were each one standing nearby one of the participants of the ritual. Their respective masters, as they watched Killian explain the whole story to the two boys and witnessed their reactions. In fact, the man with the black and green weapon had been standing right by Killian's side as he explained the whole thing to his two friends.
"Hah, those are pretty funny faces you boys are making!" The middle-eastern looking man said as he leaned over at the two. "I can practically see the worms crawling on their heads as they try to understand it all..."
"Hey, come on now, Saber." Killian said to the man. "Don't be mean to them. It's a lot to take in."
The two boys eventually recovered, and they could only look around. At the mages gathered, and at the people standing near them.
Servants.
Servants chasing after the Holy Grail.
Man...
That was just... a lot. For the two of them.
"This is crazy." Kenn said, "This is just... crazy... too crazy! God, I can't believe we got dragged into this!"
"This is so..." Toby was looking at the distance, and then a smile started appearing on his face. "So cool!"
Kenn could only look at his friend in exasperation.
"Well, glad you see the cool side of it all, Toby, my boy." Killian said, while Saber chuckled as he stood by his side.
"I mean, it is so cool!" Toby said to the people around him, the Servants in particular. "To think you guys actually are-" What the young man was going to say got lost, a she suddenly received a notification on his phone. He took it, thinking it could be from his parents, but it turned out to something else. Something that made him cuss out loud.
"Guys! Turn on the TV! Now! Channel six!"
The way Toby said that caused some of the presents to look at him with raised eyebrows. Killian, however, decided to do as the young man was saying, and turned the television on Channel Six.
They were transmitting a life feed of what seemed to be someone's livestreaming online. The woman on the screen presented the news as something that was happening on the military base by the outskirts of the city.
"Ain't that the base where you said the Vaux guy was?" Toby asked of them. "The one who was going to summon the Berserker?"
"Well, that's peachy, ain't it?" Killian said as he and everyone else watched the news being transmitted live and showing the men of the base, now half destroyed, fighting what they could only assume was their faction's Berserker.
Dash and the man continued to fight, but those things that the red monster just "birthed" were far too much for them. They dodged the bullets and even swung their weapons hard enough to tear a single man apart.
They were as inhuman as the thing they came from, and that was enough to terrify all of them. They were more focused on trying to run than to try to fight. Except for one who seemed to have the idea that bringing down the big one would cause those smaller ones to die, so he ran towards Berserker while screaming and firing all he had.
Just as he did, Berserker rushed forward faster than anyone would assume a man that big could move and, with a swing of his axe, completely decimated the man, causing a crater on the ground in the process.
"Holy crap! That guy exploded!" Lars said as he watched the thing developing from the small screen on his car as he was drove to school. By his sides were Stephanie, still with a blackened eye and a bandaged nose from the punch she received on the previous day from Yuki, and Paul, and all of them were watching it unfolding on real time as it was transmitted by the show.
"Oh my god, guys!" Said a girl who they recognized from her school. It was Jessica Jones, and she was the one making this streaming, and she seemed horrified.
"Guys, I don't know what is going on, but I know it's not good! I-I... Oh god! T-they are killing people! They are killing the people around here and I... I have to leave! I need to get out of here while I... wait! Something is happening!"
Her camera turned back to the scene, and now it showed something happening.
Balls of flame were flying across the air, hitting the beings with no faces, one after the other, they hit them from several sides at once.
The camera panned out and found out the one doing this, throwing paper after paper into the air.
"Hayashi!?" Stephanie said as she looked at the screen, seeing the same girl who gave her that black eye and hurt nose, and by her side...
"That's Duncan!" Malia said in horror as she and her husband looked at the television.
"Dawson, that's our son!"
Duncan stood where he was, as Yuki continued to toss the papers she retrieved from her bag into the air, causing them to turn into fireballs and fly in direction to the creatures like homing missiles.
How many of those she was carrying!?
Finally, she tossed three of them in the air at once, chanting two lines in Japanese. The three papers ignited at once and then merged into a single flaming ball the size of a volley ball, which quickly flew in direction to the beings. Landing in between the four of them and then exploding into an inferno that consumed all the creatures, which disintegrated into ash as they were burned.
Wow, those flames must be insanely hot! Duncan thought.
Then, a sound reached his ears.
It was loud and splitting, and it was not human. It was like the roar of the monster of a sci-fi movie, except much scarier.
And Duncan quickly found the source of the sound, and it was the red giant.
The man was roaring.
Not screaming. Roaring.
And that was honestly terrifying.
The giant was practically foaming from the mouth as he started to walk on their direction. He was not running, just walking to them with slow steps, nearly as if he knew they could not escape him.
However, it seemed that it was fighting, not escaping, that was on Yuki's mind.
She grabbed two pieces of paper, holding them as she spoke the words:
"Fujin, Raijin! Intertwine and become the rope that shall bind my enemy! Now!" She then tossed them into the air, and the two papers spun around each other, turning into a spinning lightning that flew in direction to the red giant.
However, unlike her previous attack, this lightning did not hit the creature. Instead, it started to circle around it, forming an unbroken ring around the being and then tightening.
The giant stopped as the lightning around him started to squeeze. Like a rope, it coiled around his torso, pinning his arms against it and then squeezing even harder.
The creature let out another roar as it was suddenly brought to its knees. The rope was pulling it down, making sure it stayed kneeled and was unable to get up.
"You got it!" Duncan said in surprised, and Yuki then pulled three more papers.
"Kajin, Kojin, Kagutsuchi. Bring fire and death upon my enemies. I command now! Strike!"
And Yuki tossed the papers into the air and, like before, they ignited and turned into a fireball. Then, this fireball flew in direction to monster that was made to kneel, stopping right in front of his face. He tilted his head slightly as he looked at it, before it exploded with the force of a missile really close to him, creating a cloud of flames and smoke.
"Dammit!" Vaux said as he shielded his face from the force of the blast. He was at a safe distance, but he could still feel the heat. This was not small magic, by any means.
Just who the hell is that girl?
His thoughts were interrupted as his phone rang.
Dammit, who is it now?
As it turns out, it was Ulanov, as Vaux found out as he opened his old flip-phone and harshly asked who it was. As he heard the voice of the man on the other end, he changed his tone.
"E-everything okay? Of course, it is! Why would it not be! Everything is fine! Nothing I cannot solve!" Vaux said, and then Ulanov spoke something to him that made his expression change.
"Wait, how do you know that is happening!? Are you spying on me now? ... What do you mean I am on television!?"
Vaux blinked as Ulanov explained, and then he looked around, and he soon caught sight of a blonde girl pointing a phone to what was happening. His blood boiled as he looked at her, and he realized that she was transmitting everything that was happening, and that Ulanov and the others were seeing it.
They were all seeing how massively he was failing on keeping his own Servant under control and allowing him to be taken down by a stupid brat!
This just would not stand!
Yuki and Duncan, on their end, were unaware of what was going on with Vaux, as they saw the smoke cleared, and the man was still there. He was still in one piece and alive. He was a little charred, but other than that he seemed mostly fine.
"How is that thing still alive!?" Dash said in shock as he saw the thing still breathing.
"He's not human." Mike said as he crouched by his side as they were both hidden behind the remains of a crumpled-up vehicle. "He is some kind of mutant, or something similar made with magic."
Dash could find it easy to agree with that, and he watched as Yuki started preparing another spell, when Vaux got on the way.
"Hey! Hey!" The man demanded from the red giant. "What do you think you are doing!? Get up! I am your master and I'm giving you am order! Get up now and start doing as I command! You have to obey me!"
"Yoh, dude!" Duncan yelled. "Get out of the way!"
Meanwhile, Yuki was already getting ready to strike.
"Raiji-"
"QUIET!" Vaux cut her off by pointing a finger at her. One of the rings on his finger started to glow, and smoke came out of it. This smoke took the form of a ghastly snake with glowing yellow eyes, which zig-zagged across the air in direction to the girl, and then sank its fangs on her throat.
"YUKI!" Duncan cried in horror as he grabbed her as she fell back. The snake vanished in smoke quickly, and Duncan was then checking her neck, but he could not see blood or puncture marks of any kind. She seemed to be fine.
However, as she tried to talk to him, both were shocked to find out that no sound was coming out of her mouth.
Yuki had lost the ability to use her voice.
Meanwhile, Vaux was once more talking to his giant.
"I said get up now!" He was demanding now, while Berserker continued to look down at him. "You are supposed to be a legendary hero! A king of one of the most powerful and fearsome people in all history! And you cannot even break free from a spell a young girl has cast on you!?"
Berserker continued to look at him.
"Are you even worth of being near the King of Knights!?"
This caused Berserker's eyes to widen. Then, a loud, feral growl escaped from his throat, as he got up, slamming his foot into the ground so hard it created a small crater beneath him, and then he separated his hands, breaking the spell tying him as easily as he would break a thin chain from a piece of jewelry.
"That's more like it." Vaux said. "Now, we are going to-"
But he was interrupted when the machinegun shots came from the nearby helicopters.
That was the aerial support that the General had ordered from the nearest base. They had come expecting to find the base swamped by hostiles, but they instead found it mostly destroyed and burning, with the only thing close to hostile being that colossus of a man standing there by the side of the small man dressed in white.
And the General was speaking to them from the radio.
"Take that red thing down!" General Turner yelled at the radio, as he saw just what that thing could do, and he was not willing to let either it or Vaux walk out. "Bring it down whatever it takes! I don't care if that guy is near! He made that thing! He deserves to go down with it!"
And the pilots of the helicopters did as the general told them to. They pressed on the buttons and started firing, aiming the entire volley of their machineguns into the red giant, firing at him with high-caliber bullets, while Vaux ran off to avoid being caught by those bullets. He was not sure if even his magical barriers would be able to protect him from heavy-duty bullets.
Meanwhile, Yuki tried to help them with another spell, only to find out that, besides her voice, it seemed that whatever the man in white did also took away her ability to cast spells.
Soon, Duncan was pulling her away as the choppers continued to fire at the giant, who just flinched a little bit as those bullets hit him, growling as it seemed that the only thing those were managing to do was annoy him.
Then, they started firing the missiles, once they saw that the gunshots were doing nothing to him.
The first one was grabbed by Berserker midflight. He growled as he squeezed it, crushing the object and causing it to explode on his grip. Then others came, one after the other, they hit the place where Berserker was standing, rising a lot of smoke and debris as they went.
Everyone held their breath as they looked.
Had they done it? Had they killed that monster?
No, they didn't.
A column rose out of the smoke as Berserker jumped, going straight to one of the choppers, which was unable to move out of the way fast enough as the man swung his massive axe into it. The whole thing was cleaved, pieces of glass and metal falling along with the parts of the cut vehicle, as Berserker swung his axe again before going down himself, this time opening a huge gash on the second chopper, which exploded shortly after.
"Crap!" Dash said as he and everyone else witnessed this show, and Berserker was still far from done.
"Dammit, what is that guy!?" Duncan said as he watched in horror as even the military was not able to stop that monster. This made him wonder if anyone would be able to stop him. Or if they would all be powerless to stop him while he was free do as he wanted.
The very thought was terrifying, and it made Duncan, more than anything, wish there was something he could do to help.
That was when he noticed something going on besides him.
He looked over and saw that Yuki was going through her bag once again, and now she was pulling... a single chalk.
"Yuki, what are you doing?" He asked her, and she looked up at him. He could see her eyes. He could see the despair in them. The despair of a person who felt impotent. The despair of a person who desperately wanted to help but had no way to.
The same despair he himself was feeling.
But he also saw determination.
The kind that told him Yuki still had a plan.
So, he only watched as she started to draw something into the ground, working as quickly as she possibly could while Berserker took another impossible jump, and now he grabbed into one of the choppers, his weight dragging it down.
The red giant reached his hand up, stopping the spinning blades of the chopper by holding it with his bare fingers, causing the helicopter to immediately plummet down and collide heavily withy the ground bellow. Ignoring it, Berserker just ripped the entire propeller, and then he threw it into the fourth and last helicopter, and the spinning blade sank itself into the last of the crafts, causing it to fall and explode in a ball of fire.
However, even this explosion was overshadowed by Berserker's furious roar as he stood on top of the vehicle like a hero who just defeated a dragon, the men inside of the chopper desperately climbing their way out of there while they still could.
Duncan looked at it, before turning his gaze back at Yuki, and he saw that she had just finished what she was drawing with the chalk. It was a big magic circle, and now that it was finished, the young woman was holding her hand up as she stood before the circle.
She focused, activating her magic circuits. However, as she tried to speak, no words came out. Her mouth moved, but there was no sound. There were not lines. There was no reaction from the circle.
She gritted her teeth in frustration, tears threatening to come out as she felt completely powerless and helpless.
Just like she did on the night both her parents died.
Duncan continued to look at her, and then he looked back at the circle, and he then recognized it.
"Wait, this is the circle of the ritual, isn't it?" He went to Yuki as he asked that. "The one that could do anything? You are trying to use it to stop that thing? Is that it?"
Yuki looked at Duncan and, still unable to use her voice, she nodded at him.
Duncan looked back at the creature called Berserker, which had now turned his attention to one of the men who were in the chopped. Said man was screaming as he fired in Berserker with a handgun, but that only managed to make the red beast angry, as he walked down the chopper, and then stepped on the man, crushing him like a bug.
This had to stop!
"I'll help you!" Those words seemed to surprise Yuki, who looked at him in shock.
"You need to say the lines to make the ritual work, right?" Duncan said, "I remember them all! I may not be a mage, but I can help you with that part!"
He then stepped forward, and he held her hand.
"Let me be your voice." He spoke to her with a sureness that left her momentarily stunned. "Let's stop that thing together."
She looked at him for a few more seconds, before nodding at him with a look as determined as his own.
She was not sure if it would work, but it was worth a shot, and it might be their only chance of saving the people still left on the base before the red giant could destroy everything.
So, they both stood side by side, their fingers intertwined as they both held their hands to the circle in front of them.
As Yuki activated her magic circuits, causing her hand to become warm as Duncan held it, the boy said:
"SET!"
He said it a little louder than he had to, and this caused Jessica, who was still recording and transmitting everything live, not only for her followers, but for the entire city now, to turn and look at them. Soon, she was recording what they were doing, whatever it was.
"Le steel and silver become be the essence!" The boy on the screen said as he held the girl's hand, holding both towards the magic circle. "While stone and the Archduke of Pacts become the foundation! And the grandmaster Nagato Tohsaka shall be the ancestor!"
"I heard that before..." Toby was looking at the screen, along with everyone.
"Is he...!?" The lion said.
"This can't be!" Ulanov said, looking at the scene in astonishment.
"Let it fill to the brim! Fill it again! Again! Again! And again!" Duncan continued to say while Lars and the other two watched on the screen.
"Is the circle glowing?" Paul asked as they all watched, and they all could see that, in fact, the circle drawn before the two in the ground was starting to emit a blue glow, noticeable even though it was day, as the camera of the phone recording it all turned to said circle and it was obvious that the circle was glowing.
"What are they doing?" Stephanie was the one who asked that, as she was wondering just what kind of magic those two were trying to do. Meanwhile, Callaghan continued:
"Fill it five times over! Smash it each time it is full!"
Malia and Dawson were both standing before the TV. They forgot about everything else as they watched what their son was doing on that very second.
They watched as he held that girl's hand to the circle before him, which ignited in flames as he continued to say those words
"May a wall be raised to block falling wind! May the four cardinal gates be sealed! May you lift from the crown and take the three-forked road that leads towards the kingdom!"
The flames on the circle burned ever so brighter with each line the young man spoke while his parents, just like most people on the city, were now watching.
Yuki's hand was so hot.
Duncan heard that, when mages used their magic circuits, they heated up so much you could see it in infrared.
Her hand was so hot that it was like it could start burning Duncan's hand. However, the young man didn't consider letting go, not even for a second. He only continued chanting the lines:
"Hear my declaration now! My will shall forge your body, and your sword shall, in return, forge my destiny!"
The flames of the magic circle grew even brighter and hotter, causing Jessica to give a step back because of the heat.
"Hear and heed the call of the Cup of Heaven! If you submit to my will and reason, then answer me!"
And now Jessica was not the only one paying attention, as a lot of the people nearby were looking at the developing scene, as they noticed the event happening with the two guys in there, including Mike, Dash, and Vaux.
"You gotta be kidding me!" The mage in white blurted out as he looked at them. Berserker, however, seemed not to have noticed, as he was too busy looking up at an approaching helicopter.
From the experiences he just had, he still associated the image of a helicopter with enemy, and he was ready to destroy it as well, not realizing that, unlike the others, this one was just a news helicopter from a news channel that came to cover what was happening.
"Upon this circle, I vow!" Duncan cried out, repeating the words of the papers he got from Yuki on tat one night, and that he memorized on his heart. "I shall represent all the good in the world! I shall vanquish all the evils of the world!"
His hand squeezed Yuki's, as the female mage squeezed his hand back. The flames of the circle before them were even bigger and hotter now, and they were changing their red coloration to all colors of the rainbow, before they became pure white.
However, the two had their attention turned to Berserker, who was lifting his axe, legs tensing as he got ready to jump on the news chopper and bring it down just like he did with the other ones. They were looking at him, wishing, desiring with all their being that they could bring him down and stop him from hurting anyone else.
Their minds and hearts aligned for this one shared goal, as if they were the very same being.
"Come down from Heavens! Be tied by three absolute orders! Break thy chains, come forth from the circle and kneel before me now! Guardian of Balance, I command thee!"
Then, the flames erupted.
The circle Yuki drew with chalk was taken by a literal whirlwind of swirling flames. Duncan flinched as he felt a burning pain on the hand holding Yuki's. The back of that hand felt like it was on fire, as if there was something being branded in there with a hot iron. However, even then Duncan refused to let go. He only screamed loudly as he continued to hold on.
As he did, Berserker, who was about to jump, stopped on his tracks. His body tensing as he felt something coming.
The fire continued to swirl for good ten seconds, before it started to subside.
The white flames started to change color as they reduced in both size and heat, until they looked mostly like normal flames.
Duncan and Yuki were both panting, both looking forward at the circle burning before them.
Past it, they could see Berserker in the distance, turning to look at them with his black eyes.
He was still standing. Nothing happened.
Had the ritual failed?
Then, as the flames subsided even more, they saw him.
There was a figure crouched on the center of the circle. One that was not there just moments ago.
This figure was soon getting up, as they have been down on one knee, and now they stood proudly with their back turned to the two teenagers.
It was a man. An average-looking man. Except that he was not average at all. Starting for the fact he was dressing a chain-mail armor of green coloration over his blue and black clothes, with gauntlets and boots of metal of the same coloration. His long red hair was branded like a rope that went all the way down to the middle of his back. On his waist, he carried a sword in a scabbard with a hilt finely ornated of a pure white coloration and silvery details.
For a long moment, this man stood where he was, before looking over his shoulder to gaze at the two people behind him.
"I see..." The man said as he looked at the two of them with his eyes, one of them green and the other blue. As he smiled at the two, both Yuki and Duncan could not help but think how handsome the guy was. Like, supermodel-handsome or movie actor-handsome with a face with sharp features and a thin beard of the same ginger-coloration as his branded hair.
Then, he turned his face back forward, and he locked eyes with Berserker. The smile vanished from his features, replaced by a fierce expression, with his heterochromic eyes nearly seeming like they were burning with a fire of their own as they looked at the one who he knew for a fact was his enemy.
"Dammit!" Vaux said, taken aback by the unexpected event, but quickly recovering as he turned to the red giant.
"Berserker! Attack! Now!"
He didn't need to repeat the order. He didn't even need have given it in the first place, to tell the truth. The giant had already decided to attack that new figure on the second he notice his presence.
With a sudden, powerful jump, Berserker propelled himself in the air, easily covering the distance between himself and the man, howling like a demon as he swung his axe down.
"Look out!" Was all that Duncan could say, as the man then reached for the hilt of his sword and pulled it out of his scabbard.
The resulting impact was enough to knock both Yuki and Duncan off their feet. The sound was like that of a huge explosion, and the ground cracked so hard that small crater opened on the spot where the axe swung, such was the force of the swing.
However, the force of that swing was not the most shocking.
The most shocking was that the man with the sword was still standing there! He parred the blow with his blade!
He stood there, both struggling as they held their weapons in a clash. Then, by plating his feet so hard int the ground it cracked even further, the man with the sword was able to push Berserker back with a movement so strong it provoked a gust of wind.
Then, he went into attack.
Four swings, so fast and powerful that it left some of the presents not knowing what just happened, as all they saw was that giant of a man reeling back from the swings of the blade of the smaller one, stopping several feet away and firming his feet into the ground, before roaring at him.
The man with the sword, however, seemed completely unfazed by it. He even took a moment to look around.
"Was this all your doing?" He asked, his voice even and collected as he looked at the being he was facing. "This destruction?"
Berserker growled back at him, his muscles tensing as he got ready to attack again.
"Such savagery... but, I suppose it is to be expected." The man was looking at Berserker. "I know what you are, Mad Warrior. I heard stories of your people's ruthlessness, and even fought them myself." He then lifted his sword.
"So, I am not afraid of you!" He announced, gripping the hilt of his weapon. "I, Saber of Blue, will not cower in fear! So, come face me!"
"Did red-hair just say he is Saber of Blue?" Toby asked as he looked at the scene developing on the screen. By his side, Killian started chuckling.
"Well, ain't that just great?"
With a mighty roar from Berserker, both him and Saber of Blue charged at each other, swinging their respective weapons.
The following battle was, in one word, baffling.
That man calling himself Saber of Blue, despite being only a third of the size of Berserker, was able to swing his sword hard enough to counter the swings of his massive axe. Not only that, but the two of them swung their weapons and moved at such a speed that blinking was enough for one to lose track of what was happening.
Each swing caused sparks to fly everywhere as metal hit metal with explosive force. Each swing produced a sound akin to an explosion as the blades of the sword and axe collided with enough power to shatter the arms of their holders if they were common men.
Everyone watched in absolute awe at this battle taking place, all of them baffled to the power and savagery being demonstrated by those two fighters.
"This is so awesome!" Was all that Mike could think of saying as he watched a scene of action that made his favorite movie seem lame. He was the only one who could think of say anything, as even Vaux was surprised by the level of power being shown before him.
Dammit! A battle between two Servants is a bigger deal than I thought! Was all he could think as he watched the battle developing. And how come Berserker is having problems!? He is much bigger and heavier than that guy!
However, despite the difference in size and weight, it seemed that Berserker was the one being forced back. With expertise swings of his sword and with quick movements that outmatched Berserker's speed, Saber of Blue was able to force the giant to move back with a barrage of blows that was so fast some of them were too fast for the red giant to block, resulting in gashes and cuts opening on his body and forcing him to move back to avoid the edge of the blade.
With a final series of blows, the head of the axe was cut clear off just as Berserker was swinging it again, three other cuts opening on Berserker's red skin and leaking blood profusely as the giant gave several steps back while letting out a loud, ungodly wail that was like the cry of a giant bull in agony.
It was loud enough to make many people around cover their ears.
Saber of Blue, however, stood there indifferent, as he looked at the wailing Berserker. He even showed no reaction when, once more, the black lines on Berserker's body converged into black spots on his chest and stomach, from which sprouted more of those colorfully skinned, faceless creatures, which immediately gained armors and weapons and charged at Saber with murderous intent.
They were no match for him, as he swung his sword and cut them all down easily as they came. Some of them managed to reach him and swing their blades on him, only to be blocked and for him to swing back at them and kill them easily, causing them to go down and dissolve into dust before they even hit the ground.
At one point, five of them jumped on him all at once, and he cleaved all of them clear in half with a single swing of his sword, before he charged and hit Berserker with his blade before another one could sprout, causing another huge gash appeared on his chest, resulting in Berserker wailing in pain once more and trying to swing back at him with his fist.
The impact could be felt by nearly everyone around as it was connected.
Saber blocked it with his arm, stopping the punch by firming his feet as hard as he could into the ground to keep himself from being thrown away by the blow, before pushing him back and then giving him his own punch. The uppercut to the chin was savage, and it caused Berserker to stumble back several steps as a few teeth flew and landed on the ground.
"Dammit, Berserker!" Vaux said as he saw his Servant being completely decimated by this one who just manifested.
At this rate he is going to lose! Vaux watched as Saber attacked again, swinging his sword down and drawing more blood from Berserker, who could do little to stop him as he could not block or fight back fast enough against someone who had much more skill using his chosen weapon.
This can't happen! I cannot lose right on my first real battle! I have to do something!
"Berserker! Put your armor back!" Vaux commanded. However, this command was apparently ignored, as Berserker roared and attacked again. He managed to push Saber of Blue back a little, before the man with the sword fought back, swinging his sword and drawing even more blood from his attacker, causing it to leak into the ground and paint it as red as Berserker's skin.
"I gave you an order!" Vaux demanded. "I am commanding you!"
With this said, Vaux lifted his hand, the markings on the back of it glowing red as he activated them.
"Put Ogun's Armor back now!"
As he said that, a flash of red came, as the cross on the top of the outer circle vanished from the back of his hand. As it did, it was like a wave of red moved in direction to Berserker, hitting him and then forcing an action upon him.
Berserker let an even louder wail as red light gathered on his body, and started to materialize as a black armor, starting on his hands and feet, down his arms and up his legs, moving in direction to his torso, before covering his head and causing his wail to turn into a metallic yell like that of a machine operating.
After this, Berserker lowered his head, before lifting it, the visors on his helmet glowing just as much as the mark on his chest.
"What is this...?" Saber of Blue mused. "Is this your Noble Phantasm?" He was looking at the creature, who now was completely silent as it looked at him. "No... this is not yours..."
"Attack him now!" Vaux demanded. "Cut him down!"
And Berserker obeyed.
Once more, he materialized a weapon, but this time it was a sword, as big as the axe, which he swung into Saber, who blocked it with his own sword.
The impact was so powerful that it not only cracked the ground, but sent Saber flying back nearly twenty yards, before he managed to firm his feet on the ground and steady himself, just as Berserker charged at him, sword raised and ready to deliver more blows.
From there, there was a shift in the battle, as it seemed that putting that armor on has made Berserker stronger and faster. Enough that he could now have the actual advantage over Saber.
This makes you stronger... Saber caught himself thinking, as he had to struggle to block the attacks of Berserker, while trying to attack him back, only for his blade to scratch the black armor he was wearing. But... it is more than just that... you don't want to use it, do you?
Berserker let out another yell as he swung his blade again, and Saber was, once more, tossed into the air. He didn't had time to react as Berserker swung his fist, and the hand coated into a black gauntlet hit him square on the chest, sending him flying back to one of the buildings of the base that were still standing. Saber connected with it so violently that entire section just collapsed on top of him.
"Holy crap!" Duncan said, as he saw Saber being thrown like that alongside with everyone. Jessica was standing right next to him and Yuki, capturing everything on her cellphone.
"Now that's more like it!" Vaux had a smile on his face as he saw this. "Keep like this, Berserker! Show why we are the ones who will win this war!"
Berserker straightened his back, the only sounds coming from him were metallic, including his breathing. He continued to look at the destroyed building, and soon something was coming out of the rubble.
His clothes had been slightly ripped by the battle, with his chainmail being somewhat broken. Also, he had blood coming out of his nose and mouth, soaking his face. However, even so, he had a stoic expression as he simply used his arm to wipe the blood off, and then he held his sword with both hands, before charging into battle once again.
Berserker, however, was ready, as he swung his sword just as Saber of Blue ran into him. Saber then jumped out of the way, spinning into the ground as he avoided the swing of the blade and then thrust his sword forward.
Berserker grabbed the blade with a single hand, holding it in place as Saber tried to pull back, and found himself unable to.
"That's it!" Vaux cheered. "Now cut him in half!"
Berserker was ready to obey, as he lifted his sword right in the air while holding Saber's. His whole arm tensed as he was ready to swing it down and end the life of his enemy, before the horrified eyes of the spectators and the excited eyes of Vaux.
Saber, however, didn't seemed worried. He only had the same fierce expression on his face as he lifted it and said, in a steady and calm voice:
"O, flame..."
Immediately, flames sprouted from them, shocking all the presents.
Berserker stumbled back, letting out a metallic sound of pain. Meanwhile, Saber was still holding his sword, now coated in flames, which danced around him while forming whips of pure fire, before charging into battle once more.
Once more, the battle shifted, this time in Saber's favor. The man swung his sword, causing flames to jump from it and to hit Berserker as both waves and slashes. Not only that, but it seemed that the heat of the flames acted as a boost for Saber's own movements, as it allowed him to swing his sword even faster and harder, causing Berserker to have to struggle to keep up with him once more. Each swing left deep, lightly charred dents on the black armor Berserker was wearing.
So much power! Is this the full potential of a Saber!? Vaux was looking, shielding his face from the sheer heat emanating from each blow that Saber's flaming sword produced, while Berserker continued to yell in pain.
I... I completely underestimated the Holy Grail War!
Berserker roared a metallic roar as he tried to press down his sword on Saber. However, the smaller man, with a cry of his own, caused the flames on his sword to glow even more powerfully. This acted like the flames of a rocket, giving Saber's sword a thrust against Berserker's and pushing him back.
With a swing, which produced a tornado of flames, Berserker was tossed several meters into the air, before landing heavily close to Vaux, and the struggling to get up.
Meanwhile, Saber turned to him, and he was with his sword ready once more. The flames in it burned even hotter, turning into a shade of pure white as he prepared for another attack.
Is he going to use his Noble Phantasm!? Vaux could only look. I have to do something! I have to do something now!
He frantically looked to all sides, before he locked his eyes on them.
The two brats who summoned this Saber.
With a cry of rage, Vaux lifted his hand into the air. Another one of his rings glowed, and then flames sprouted from it. Sickly green flames that took the form of multiple snakes, which immediately started to fly in direction to the two teenagers.
"Yuki!" Duncan said as he saw the snakes flying at them, their mouths open and their fangs ready to be sunk into them.
Saber also saw it, and he immediately rushed into their defense, moving so fast that, for an outside observer, it nearly seemed that he had teleported there.
With swings of his sword, he cleaved all the snakes, which were mauled into sparks and flames of green color.
However, instead of vanishing into the air, those flames gathered and swirled together, forming a single snake that was of the same size of the one of the original Anaconda movies. One that opened its fangs and was ready to bite down on the three of them at once.
"Begone!" Saber said, as he gave a single swing of his flaming sword. His flames greatly outclassed the ones of the green snake, causing them to be snuffed out as if consumed by the white flames of the sword.
Once this was done, the snake was gone, disappeared into nothingness.
Saber turned his head to where Berserker had fallen, only to find out that he was gone as well.
As well as the man who threw those snakes at the two kids.
With a breath, Saber lowered his sword, the flames going out, as the battle was over.
His first battle on the war, with more of them to come his way.
"W-who..." The voice made Saber turn back to look at the two kids, who were staring at him in awe and shock. Just like all the people around who had their eyes on this strange man, including the blonde girl with the cellphone pointed at him.
"Who are you?" Duncan was asking the man, who looked at him for a few instants, before sheathing his sword, and then, with a hand on his chest and bowing, said:
"I am Saber of Blue. This is my title, for I am the Heroic Spirit of the Sword, and a Servant of the Blue Faction. Now, forgive my rudeness, but I have a question of my own..."
He lifted his head, his eyes of different colors looking at both the boy and girl.
"Are you worthy of being my masters?"
