Hi guys! Sorry, I know, but uni is soooo difficult but I'm trying to update. I read in the comments that my chapters are short and less detailed, yes I know, but that's because I'm kinda really, really busy. I do promise to try to make it longer and more detailed.
Thank you and please enjoy chapter nine.
This is probably a bad idea. Christian thought to himself, staring up at the cottage. It had taken a lot of digging to find this place, but he had, and he might end up being kicked out before he gets to talk. It's worth a shot.
He walked to the gate of the cottage, and it swung open before he even reached it, which is a good sign at least; it seems the man in residence will be willing to hear him out. As he approached the cottage, he could already make out the shape of a man standing at its entrance.
"Christian Northern." The familiar drawl called out.
Christian paused a few steps away. He took a moment to look at the dark-haired man, who looked different from their Hogwarts days. Taller, leaner, his hair was longer and not at all greasy, and he was dressed in Muggle black denim jeans that hugged his legs and a baggy crew-neck sweater, the sleeves rolled up.
The man rolled his eyes. "Are you just going to stare?"
Christian cracked a smile. "Hello, Severus Snape. Are you busy? Can we have a chat?"
Severus didn't say anything for a long while and just stared at him with those void black eyes; Christian didn't even flinch.
Snape huffed and spun around. "Come in."
Christian smiled at his back and followed the man into the cottage. They walked into the living room, and he immediately noticed how very muggle it looked; there was even a flat-screen television hanging on the wall.
Christian couldn't help but chuckle. "Didn't take you for someone who watches television?"
Severus rolled his eyes. "I like to watch Britain's Got Talent, sue me, have a seat."
Christian sat on the single-seater couch.
"Tea?"
Christian nodded. "Okay."
Severus disappeared through a door that Christian guessed led into the kitchen. A few minutes later, he returned with the tea service, which included crumpets and scones.
Christian raised an eyebrow. "Well, you're being very muggle."
Snape dropped the tray on the coffee table and sat down across from Christian.
"I'm a half-blood." He stated matter-of-factly.
Christian tilted his head to the side a bit. "It's surprising to hear you say that. I remember you weren't very happy about that little fact in Hogwarts."
Severus flinched, then sighed, leaning into the couch. "I know well..." He didn't finish his statement and just shrugged, reaching out to serve the tea.
Christian just watched him. He hadn't expected this; the Severus Snape he remembered from school was bitter, sad, alone, and always angry, always vengeful. He never really blamed him for the way James Potter and his friends treated him.
"How do you like your tea?"
"Milk, lots of milk, little sugar."
Severus nodded and continued making the tea. He finished and passed Christian his cup, who said a small thank you, before Severus picked his own cup.
They drank their tea in silence for a while, then the dark-haired man spoke.
"I know how I was in Hogwarts," he sighed, then dropped his cup on the table. "But a lot of things have happened since then; I can't be who I was then." Somehow, Christian understood exactly what he meant by 'a lot of things'. Though he and Lily Evans weren't in good terms when they left Hogwarts, she was still his best friend. Her death must have hit him hard, causing this kind of change in him.
Christian nodded. It just means convincing him might be a lot easier.
He dropped his cup on the table and then folded his hands on his knees.
"What I decided to come to talk to you about, I didn't know how it will be perceived by you."
Severus didn't say anything, so he continued.
"What do you know about Potter's death?"
Severus didn't flinch, but Christian knew he was nervous, with the way he started tugging on his black locks.
"I know that there were no survivors, well except for their son, Harry."
Christian nodded. Well, that's a good start.
"And what do you know about Harry? Where is he?"
If Severus found the question weird, he didn't show it. "I asked Dumbledore about it; he said that the boy is being kept in a safe, secure location."
Christian wanted to scoff at that.
"And have you seen Harry since then?"
Once again, he didn't find the question weird. He shook his head slowly. "No, but I do ask about him every year. I know it's out of character because he's the child of the man who made my life hell," he sighed. "But he's also the child of my best friend, so I make sure to ask about his well-being. Dumbledore says he pays monthly visits to the family, and so he's doing fine."
Christian shook his head. "Will you believe me if I tell you that's a lie?"
Severus froze. "Pardon?"
Christian goes ahead to explain everything, from the time they found Harry to when they moved him to their home.
The conversation comes to an end, and Severus sits frozen, staring into space, looking even paler.
He gulps. "I swear I didn't know about this! I really thought-"
"I believe you," Christian cuts him off before he can spiral further. "I believe you, Dumbledore has always been an evil, manipulative bastard. You're probably not the only person he has fooled. Hell, he has the whole of the wizarding Britain fooled and under his feet."
Severus gulped nervously. "So... How is he?"
Christian smiled. "You can come see him, you know?"
Severus shook his head frantically. "I shouldn't be let anywhere near a child, especially Harry Potter! I'm a Death Eater, I'm evil and vile, and-"
"You're human," Christian cuts him off again. "You're just human, Severus Snape, and you made a mistake."
The dark-haired man looked like he was about to cry. "Why are you telling me all this?"
"Because you deserve a second chance, and believe it or not, Harry Potter needs you."
Severus shook his head, but Christian continued.
"Believe it or not, you're the only person who knows so much about his mother. That boy deserves to know these things."
"But"
"He also deserves to know, Severus Snape. You just have to let him."
Severus shook his head. "I don't know."
Christian nodded. "And that's okay."
He picked up his cup and downed the remaining tea, though it had gone lukewarm. He dropped the cup on the table, then dropped a brown button beside it. Severus caught sight of it.
When you make your decision, whatever it is, just use that button; it's a portkey; it'll take you to a secure location," he stood up. "The password is butterbear."
Severus remained silent.
Christian nodded goodbye to him, then turned around and left the house.
I know Severus Snape is a bit OOC, but I wanted him to look human because he is. If you don't like it, your problem, I did warn you the characters will be OOC.
Thank you for reading. I'll upload ten tomorrow, I promise.
