The mighty Olympus was silent as the gods rested peacefully. The usual chaotic and loud environment had been lulled to a hush. Even the various Nymphs, Satyrs, and minor gods outside the throne room were sleeping peacefully. Hestia, the only one awake, was poking and prodding at the dancing flames in front of her. This was normal since staying up on a breezy night like this relaxed Hestia a lot more than sleeping would. Tonight, however, was different. Instead of being relaxed, Hestia was nervous—scared even—of who was about to enter.
Hestia steeled her nerves as footsteps began to softly echo outside the Olympus Palace. She slowed her prodding and placed the stick beside her, clamping her hands together, patiently waiting for the visitor to arrive. The footsteps stopped, and Hestia inhaled sharply as the huge metal door swung open. A tall figure stood at the door, faintly outlined by the moonlight. He strode inside, not forgetting to wipe his feet before walking in. Hestia ignored him and kept her eyes directly on the fire, her heart thumping ferociously.
Remember what Queen Hera said
She thought to herself
Don't give in to any of his demands
The man strolled up to Hestia, examining the goddess as he approached, the sly smile remaining on his face. He stopped right in front of her, waiting expectantly for some response.
"What would you like?" Hestia asked bitterly. The man scoffed and plunked down next to her.
"Where is he?" he asked sternly. Hestia bit her lip and let out a small grunt.
"What do you want with him?" Hestia said steadily, fighting the tremble in her throat. The man chuckled, a small smile appearing on his lips. He adjusted his leather Jacket and spoke.
"Can't I see my son?" He asked. Hestia glanced at the man before looking back at the fire.
"But the queen doesn't wan—"
"I don't care," the man interrupted. Hestia's head snapped up, her heartbeat intensifying.
"Excuse me? She's his mother too!" she breathed out.
"I don't care what Hera wants. I just care about the agreed deal," the man spat, lighting a cigarette.
"What do you want from him?" Hestia repeated, this time accusatory. The man let the cigarette hang out of his mouth and scoffed.
"None of your business," he said. Hestia's eye twitched.
"Fine," she seethed. "But you won't see him now," she grumbled, "or for the next 13 years," she added. "That's what was agreed with Hera, correct?" Hestia smirked, feeling a twinge of satisfaction.
The man chuckled, standing up and dusting himself off.
"That'll still be plenty of time." he grinned before tossing the cigarette into the burning flame. Hestia glared at him, but the man whirled around, gave one last wave, and slowly disappeared into the darkness.
Hestia let out a breath and picked up her stick. She stared down the dark hallway where the man had disappeared before holding the stick to the flames and slowly beginning to poke it again.
