It had been a year and half since me and SV got sent to the world of heroes and here I was aiming down the sights of my trusty Honey Badger sending lead down range the second I had an enemy in sight, line up the reticle squeeze the trigger move on. I dropped three more targets when my rifle clicked empty and I quickly dropped it letting it swing on its sling as I pulled out my USP-45 and dropped the last two targets I saw standing with two quick headshots. I went to move on when another target came around the corner of the building I was walking past holding a gun near the head of a civilian woman that was clearly distressed. "I wouldn't point that thing in my direction, soldier boy or this lady here gonna lose her head."
Letting out a quick curse under my breath I replied. "Hey now take it easy, I'm putting it away."
"Thats right now here's what's going to happen me an-" he didn't even get to finish as his head jerked back and his grip on his hostage dropped. "Target down, I'm showing the areas clear boss." came over my radio.
"Thanks SV keep an eye out I'm going to check on the hostage." I raided over after taking a quick second to reload my Honeybadger and holster my 45, and walked over and began to assess the hostages' condition. "Ma'am I'm Nick Wood. I work with UA. Are you hurt anywhere?"
"N..n..no I'm ok just shaken up and a few scrapes." she said, shaking slightly.
"That's good these scrapes look minor, you should be fine with some disinfectant, I've cleared the way down this street just head down it and you'll see a safe area I need to keep looking for others ok." I said pointing down the road I'd just come from helping her to her feet.
"Thank you sir." was all she said as she made toward the safe area and I turned to make my way to the next block I was to search.
I continued on and on for another few blocks helping two more victims and taking out five more hostiles. The last one had just hit the floor when I heard a siren go off and someone come over an intercom. "Alright, that's the end of the simulation. All OPFOR clean up and go to the infirmary if you're injured, Wood you and your partner report to the observation deck."
Looking up at SV who was leaning out a window as we watched the hostiles we had just taken out get up and mumble about unneeded crotch shots I said. "Well that seems like our cue." Once we had made it to the observation deck I saw Nedzu and Snipe talking with a Captain of the JSDF as they reviewed footage from the trial we had just done.
The second the door shut behind us the Captain turned and gave us a small smile. "Well id say that was a good showing, I was just finishing my judgment with Nedzu and I can say with confidence you pass from this moment on you are officially licensed to carry and use firearms on any Japanese territories, and also you are now an emergency response member of the JSDF." looking at us he made sure we were listening since we had originally been testing for our weapons license only." as an emergency unit if there is an emergency in your area that where to require the JSDF you are to help contain the situation till the main force can arrive and relieve you."
"So basically first responders with assault rifles?" I asked.
"Kinda we'll give you a full debrief on the duties later but I doubt you'll be activated but with your performance i'd rather have an extra ace up my sleeve than not."
"That's fair I suppose so you said we passed but was there anything we needed to work on?"
"To be honest that was as close to a perfect run I've seen in a while, but I suppose I should ask about the amount of groin shots."
Holding back a snort I replied. "Sorry about that they kinda said somethings about SV thinking she couldn't hear and well she took some offense."
Giving me a glare SV cut in "They called me flat as a board and then said I couldnt hit a target at ten meters just cuz I'm blond, so I taught them a lesson."
"Ah. I see but otherwise I believe you are free to go."
"Thank you Captain." I said reaching for a hand shake. "I'd ask a few more questions but Nedzu mentioned something was going on this afternoon so I figure we best be on our way."
"Yes it's best to not make the Rat wait, so i'll bid you farewell for now and I'll have that info i mentioned set to UA for you." he replied returning my hand shake and led us back to base exit where we were picked up by Midnight who showed up in her beat up minivan that looked like it would fit in the destroyed streets of the wastelands i'd previously fought in. Once we were all in I watched with glee as Snipe practically tied the seat-belt around him as me and SV just sat in the back with Nedzu and Midnight attempted to break the land speed record on the streets of Japan.
Turning to glare through his mask, Snipe grumbled out. "How in the world do you two manage to stay in your seats much less trust her driving without seat-belts?"
With a small chuckle I replied. "Well SV is a T-Doll so she should have no problems because she's made for this."
"Ok and you then, as far as i'm aware other than your freaky hand your flesh and blood human like me and we tend to splat when we hit things hard enough."
"Yes but I you'll remember before my time in G&K I was in what was left of the US military for four years, then three with G&K and then i've been a been a merc for four years as well, you pick up how to handle getting thrown around a moving vehicle and you learn seatbelts are just in the way."
"I suppose that's fair but wouldn't that make you almost thirty?"
"No I enlisted at 14 things were bad and they didn't ask questions only if you could shoot or not." The drive thankful for Snipe was over in short order and we were soon parked in the back lot of UA and making our way to Nedzu's favorite conference room that the teachers referred to as the War Room. Upon entering I saw most of the first year teachers already there as well as Hound dog and Recovery girl. Taking a seat near the end I noticed as Snipe and Midnight sat down there was still two empty seats I knew one was for Eraserhead as I could hear his slow footsteps approaching from the hall, but I couldn't figure out who the last was for since SV was taking our weapons and gear to our equipment room to clean and repair them. As Eraserhead finally made his way to his seat I heard another set of footsteps and these were loud heavy ones, they almost sounded like… "Nezdu really?" I asked as he began to crackle as everyone else started to piece together who our last person was.
With a loud bang of the door slamming open Allmight entered "Sorry i'm late principal there were some wrong doers out and about on my way here." he said as he made toward the empty seat by Cementoss.
"As long as this doesn't become a habitat Allmight but first don't you have something to do?"
"Ah yes I do now I ask that you all don't freak out." he said as he began to steam and shrink. Where there was the towering mountain of the number one hero there was now a frail looking almost skeletal man that the only similarity shared with Alllmight was his hair and suit.
"Fuck I owe SV 10,000 yen." I said getting everyones slack jawed gaze directed at me instead of Allmight. "You've met with Nedzu before in this form and left as Allmight and SV bet you two were the same person."
After my interruption Allmight continued to say that was his true form and he had gotten it from a villain years ago. That statement left a lot of questions for me like who was strong enough to hurt the man I had heard nothing but praise about for being unbeatable. Once we all got our questions out of the way Nedzu brought up the reasons he called for a meeting today. "So there's two reasons you all are here today, the first and most obvious is Allmight here is going to be starting as the heroic classes TA in the upcoming school year."
"No offense but does he even have a license to teach?" I heard Midnight ask from the other end of the table. And to her credit it was a valid question, and despite her persona and public appearance she did care about the students.
"Yes and no I have the licenses for being a TA and through the year I'll be working toward an actual teaching license," he answered.
"What class will he be working with if he can only work for three hours a day?" I decided to ask since if he was the heroics TA he would be in some of the more practical classes I would be teaching.
"He will be alternating between 1A and 1B so both classes will get him as a teacher." Nedzu said. I nodded to show my understanding and Neduz continued. "And for the second after considerable debate I finally got the board to approve funding to work on upgrading our security for the campus.
"They finally gave in?" Ectoplasm asked, leaning forward.
"Yes they did, I was able to use Mr Wood and SVs arrival and spin it as a random quirk accident and suggest how damaging that could be if that happened to an actual class."
"Ha well i'm glad to be of some use then." I laughed, the board wasn't the best of people so any chance to get one over them was nice.
"On that point you and Snipe have your class outlines and lessons ready and don correct?"
Looking at Snipe I nodded and said. "Yeah we finished them up last week."
"Good you and SV are going to hire and train a group of security guards."
"What?"
"You and SV have a unique look on the world. I want you to use that to train security so we can have a more hands-on defense other than the automated systems and robots."
Seeing everyone else just as confused me I asked another question. "Ok but you want to give me the power to hire them, and what about our classes?"
"Yes I trust you would only hire those trustworthy, and for the remaining four months till the new year you will train them and then during the year you'll act as a manager just schedule them, set their patrols and duty since you only have two classes a day."
"Well I suppose I do have a fair bit of free time coming up and there really ain't much to do outside of the actual classes, alright I'll get started in the morning and I suppose you have a database I can look thru?"
"Of course and with that I have no further matters to discuss any questions?"
I hid my smirk as multiple hands went up and I leaned back in my chair. It looks like my day tomorrow just got busy.
