It was a very large purple crystal, shining brighter than the moon.
Annabeth POV:
Looking down at the gem on my wrist, I saw a it was a deep violet. Before I could calculate anything, like why my bracelet had simply been replaced by a crystal, I felt a sharp pain in the back of my head.
I clutched my ears between my hands to avoid the suddenly loud noises around me from making my headache even worse than what it was.
My vision began to blur, and I felt my consciousness retrieving into the darkness afar.
"Annabeth?" someone asked next to me. I felt something squeeze my hand, forcing me back to the hard and painful reality.
I still couldn't tell who it was. I didn't even know who I was. What was my name?
I felt my knees hit the ground.
"Annabeth!" a voice screamed. The sound made my body flinch.
Before I could answer, my consciousness decided to leave completely and my vision became black. The only color I could see were swirling golden motions that were forming in my mind.
Strong arms lifted my body, with a light voice telling me it would be alright. I still couldn't identify the person, which sickened me a little bit. My mind felt like fog had invaded it.
My body was laid on what must have been a comfortable bed.
It took me a second to realize I didn't know what a bed was.
I mentally slapped my forehead.
I should remember this kind of stuff.
"Annabeth, nod if you can hear me," someone next to me said.
I would have done it if I had had the strength to do so. I tried to move my chin ever so slightly, but my muscles weren't responding to my demands.
"It's no use Percy, let's just leave. Get some rest" another voice said, distant. An argument folllowed, but there was only one thing I could think about.
Percy, I thought.
Somehow, that name gave me motivation, but before I could ask my chin to move, something unclenched my hand, and I heard steps going from me to far away.
I internally sighed. The timing was annoyingly uneven. Having nothing to do, I decided to wait.
And wait.
And wait.
And more waiting.
Until an image popped in my head. A haze of every single color in the world. But what really caught my eye was a girl. A blonde. She was sitting underneath a tall and beautiful tree with purple and pink flowers all flowing in the gentle wind.
I didn't know how so many sensations were invading me. After all, this was kind of all in my head.
"It's pretty, isn't it?" the girl asked when she saw me. She must have realized how my mouth hung open at the sight of the tree.
I approached her. Trying to study her from a distance was kind of hard. As I got closer, I saw her eyes were a chocolate brown. The gold flecks in her eyes seemed to sparkle when I answered.
"Yeah, it is," I agreed.
Her head turned away from me, observing the large green pastures we were standing in.
"It's called a Panakes Tree," the girl pointed out.
I nodded silently as I studied the girl.
She must have been my age, about seventeen years old. But the fact that she seemed familiar was unsettling. Where could I have met this girl?
She wore an ice blue dress with no frilly things or decorations. My style of dress.
I sat down beside her, feeling comfortable around her already.
"What's your name?" I asked her silently. It was an epic fail at starting a conversation, but at least I still tried!
"Sophie, Sophie Foster," she presented herself, extending her hand for me to shake.
I didn't take it. My heart was racing a million miles per hour.
Sophie. Sophie Foster.
Sophie.
My mind repeated those words like a mantra. It was like an echo going through my head.
But this was only a dream. I wasn't seeing my best friend from when I was seven years old. I sighed heavily at the thought.
"What's wrong?" a worried Sophie asked.
"I'm Annabeth Chase." I answered, as if it explained everything.
Sophie's eyes clouded with realization.
"I-," she didn't get the chance to finish. I was already embracing her tightly. Even if this was only a dream, I might as well spend time with the person who turned my life from miserable to amazing.
Sophie's arms tightened around me.
"I missed you so much!" she squealed.
"Me too, Soph', me too," I answered, smiling.
After what seemed like forever, she pulled back from the hug.
"Wait a second," she motioned to the necklace around her neck.
The one I had given her for our seventh birthday. Right before I had run away. The jewelry was still intact, the golden chain and the gray pendant as beautiful as the day I had given it to her.
"You kept it?" I asked her, grinning.
Sophie laughed happily.
"I actually just found it today," she explained, running her finger onto the cool gray and golden necklace.
"That's amazing! I actually kept it as well," I showed her the identical pendant around my neck. I had put it on my Camp Half-Blood necklace when I had arrived arrived there. "But only the pendant."
She smiled down at it.
"Can we just try to fasten them together?" she asked, using exactly the same words as we had when I had first given it to her.
"Yep!" I replied, following the dialogue of our seventh birthday.
We fastened the two half-hearts together. It formed a whole beautiful gray heart.
"I'm so happy I met you again Annabeth." she whispered, looking into my gray eyes.
"Me t-." I was interrupted by a pitch black darkness clouding my vision in a second.
