Remus was dragged back into the present as he felt Harry break free of his grasp. All he could do is watch as Harry pulled away from him and took off in pursuit of Bellatrix.
The realization that Sirius was gone gripped him, paralyzing him, and everything around him became a blur. All his fears as he lay in the hospital bed that morning had come to pass. Although it was different than Remus ever imagined, it had finally happened, and he was alone. Again. He was the lone Marauder.
"Remus!" Someone dived on top of him, throwing him to the floor as a spell blast rocketed over them. "Head in the game," Tonks said as she jumped back onto her feet, firing off spells at the masked figures around them, "or you're liable to lose it."
"Right," Remus said numbly as he scrambled to his feet and stood next to her, sending more spells towards the Death Eaters. "Thank you."
"Don't mention it," Tonks said quickly, looking over at him as she gave him a grin and wink. "After all, what are friends for?"
