A Dog's Purpose Is Strange Magic Chapter 37

Christmas is even better than Bailey has ever imagined it to be.

To be fair there's not really that much competition when in comparison with the Dursleys all this time. Harry would always be forced to stand in the shadows waiting in the wings as he watched with sadness with perhaps a touch of envy that Dudley was so much loved and adored by his parents.

While Harry remains an orphan he is not without friends or anyone who cares about him anymore.

For the first time in his young life, Harry actually received presents on Christmas Day.

To Bailey, the greatest present in itself was to see Harry so happy opening the various presents he has received from his brand new friends generosity. Harry is literally glowing with happiness at his brand-new experience, but as fate would have it she is not to be left out. Not by a long shot.

Bailey is stunned to find she gets some things, too. In the form of toys, treats, and in Mrs. Weasley's case a very big juicy and meaty ham bone along with a matching scarf to the sweater Harry got from the woman.

But the best present of all came in the form of an extremely rare and valuable magical artifact that is actually a family heirloom.

An Invisibility Cloak.

In the brief yet significant note that is attached to the parcel, it turns out it previously belonged to the late James Potter and had been given to the acquaintance for safekeeping. Now that Harry is at Hogwarts this most precious possession is returned rightfully to him.

While the boys talk Bailey investigates the Invisibility Cloak with great fascination and curiosity.

One whiff and Bailey immediately draws back, ears and tail perked upwards with her head tilted comically although the boys failed to notice.

Why does this Invisibility Cloak faintly smell like the Headmaster?

As Bailey was thinking about this the Invisibility Cloak slips from the bed and completely onto Bailey. Bailey releases a yip when the soft material encases her body and she tries to get it off bumping into things are she jumps around the dormitory trying to shake it away.

Ron and Harry then work to locate her in the dorm as the family heirloom has made her invisible to their eyes. Eventually, after a few seconds, they find her by tracking her whines. Harry then puts the Invisibility Cloak away in his trunk for the future and as he does so gets an idea of what to do first with it.

Harry and Bailey spent the remainder of Christmas Day having the time of their lives with the Weasleys, eating and playing games all the time.

Truly the duo has never been so happy. For Bailey, it rivals how she felt the very day she and Harry first met.

That night with Bailey by his side and everyone else who has stayed in the castle for the holiday asleep Harry put his idea of using the Invisibility Cloak well into play.

Using the Invisibility Cloak Harry sneaks out of Gryffindor Tower down to the library for the Restricted Section. So far in the books available to him none of the three have managed to find any information viable on Nicholas Flamel anywhere. He knows there's more information to be found and maybe will discover something here.

It was difficult to stay hidden underneath the Invisibility Cloak whenever a teacher walked by on patrol especially with Bailey's wagging tail poking out occasionally. Fortunately, Harry is still small enough that a majority of the Invisibility Cloak easily is correctible.

Soon Harry got to the library and snuck into the Restricted Section. Harry scoured the bookshelves using a lantern to find the right kind of book but is very cautious about it. By appearances alone hardly if not all of these books aren't to be taken lightly.

Trying to help Bailey choose for him lightly pawing on a shelf underneath a book to show her random choice.

Bailey should've left it to him.

A piercing and bloodcurdling scream erupts from the open book echoing in the library. Harry shuts the book, but it keeps screaming. Bailey figures it must've been an alarm system of some kind to waylay people who aren't supposed to be here.

Abandoning the quest Harry and Bailey bolt immediately out of there using the Invisibility Cloak for cover.

And then what's worse Filch nearly catches them with Mrs. Norris.

They barely managed to hide from the wretched fellow as he in turn made his way to the library.

The two take refuge in an unused classroom until the danger passes.

As this occurs Harry and Bailey come across a peculiar object in this empty classroom.

What is a mirror doing in a vacant classroom with no one there to use it?
