A Dog's Purpose Is Strange Magic Chapter 38

Harry's curiosity arose about the mirror and as he slowly stepped towards it Bailey felt obliged to follow no longer sensing a danger with their pursuers now off their trail. At first, nothing seems out of the ordinary, but then when they get within a few feet of the reflective glass something astonishing occurs for both of them.

Bailey can't believe what she sees. Instead of a normal reflection, Bailey does see her boy beside her and some unexpected additions. Surrounding her form is a small litter of puppies all bubbly and happy with wagging tails. Jumping and licking at her reflections face, pressed against her for warmth and love. Beside them, Harry kneels there smiling and laughing at the puppies that roll in his lap with bellies up for him to rub and scratch. Bailey looks around her and yet sees no puppies where she actually sits. This causes her to feel an unexpected prick of sadness stab her heart, her head slightly lowering, and her ears drooping in response to this. She releases a small whine pawing at the image.

Much to Bailey's surprise Harry places a hand on the glass and speaks as if talking to his mother and father. This confuses Bailey since she doesn't see their images at all in the glass.

Could it be what they're seeing is completely different?

Harry can't contain his excitement.

Despite the risks, Harry heads back to Gryffindor Tower to wake Ron in order to show him this discovery. That his parents are right there in front of them. It's a miracle none of them are caught during this. Ron is in front of the mirror and is amazed just like them. Harry is pleased until Ron describes what he sees which is entirely different from their experiences which confirms Bailey's suspicions. Ron sees himself as one day head Boy and Quidditch Captain for Gryffindor. He suggests that this mirror might show the future, but that idea along with Harry's hopes are soon dashed when he makes the crucial point that both his parents are dead.

So if this mirror doesn't have magic that shows the future then what is it?
