With Harry laid up in the Hospital Wing unconscious following the events of the trialing ordeal that occurred underneath the trapdoor Bailey is miserable. Harry hasn't awoken for days just lying there immobile, showing no signs of waking up anytime soon. It's very nerve-wracking for her to endure on her own. Made her quite standoffish which is very uncharacteristic of her outgoing personality. A major change that's left those around her worrisome.
Bailey is so worried about her boy that she refuses any food people attempt to give her and not even leaving his bed except to go to the bathroom and she doesn't even leave the Hospital Wing to do that. She simply chooses a corner to relieve herself which agitates Madam Pomfrey to no end with how many messes she has to clean up.
Finally, Madam Pomfrey has become almost fed up with Bailey's unconscionable behavior. So Madam Pomfrey resorts to recruiting Hagrid and assigning him to take the red retriever out for some walks on the grounds.
Bailey doesn't like it but soon realizes there isn't any other option for her to take. Madam Pomfrey may have a soft and easygoing nature that most have regularly or irregularly bore witness to, but when pushed too far like she has been now she is not to be messed with.
Madam Pomfrey's wrath is to be avoided at all costs under numerous circumstances.
Given that Quirrell was gone Hagrid doesn't necessarily have to search for something methodically attacking the unicorn herds anymore, but as the Hogwarts gamekeeper, he does have to regularly do his patrols. So he takes her out along with him and Fang on one of these.
At one point during this Bailey ends up getting briefly separated from the pair.
Ever in the daylight, the Forbidden Forest remains unbelievably.
Bailey could sense something was near and it wasn't Hagrid nor the cowardly Fang. Bailey pauses raising her head to let the smells of the forest reach all the way through her nose to the brain. Musty odors of leaf mold mingled with the aroma of small and furry creatures. And beneath all that is something very familiar.
Another canine, but in a different form.
The unknown entity makes the fur on her spine prickle in apprehension. Bailey's senses are straining in order to make an identification that is eluding her.
Suddenly a flash of gray races through some bushes, rustling of branches and leaves giving away even more of its position. Bailey spun around in multiple directions, intent on rooting out the noise and pinpointing whatever was stalking her.
Finally, Bailey ceases her movements. Pushing her fear aside, and gathering her courage, she lifts her chin and barks boldly to face whatever it is. She barks again demanding this intruder to show itself.
It does and it's not what Bailey is expecting.
A wolf.
A large male wolf with gray fur.
Both Bailey and this intimidating alpha male freeze upon facing each other.
But then the alpha male growls, lips pulling back on his teeth to display dominance for her trespassing on his territory.
Instead of crouching low to the ground and cowering in fear Bailey instead does the complete opposite. Bailey's tail begins to wage, laying down on her back, and showing her belly to him to show she is no threat.
This catches the alpha male off guard. He certainly wasn't expecting that. Its posture transfers from aggression to curiosity.
The two of them then slowly move closer to each other with caution, sniffing each other's noses, dual tails wagging in the air as they begin to lick one another's muzzles.
Elsewhere Hagrid finally notices that Bailey is missing. Used to it just being him and Fang he didn't see this right away.
The second he does Hagrid is immediately calling for her to come.
It takes a couple of minutes until Bailey does so.
Much to Hagrid's relief she is safe and unharmed despite being a touch on the ruffled and filthy side. He figures she must've been investigating something that caught her interest.
Hagrid then takes them back to the castle.
On the way there Fang appears to take notice that there's a smell on her that wasn't there before. When he tries to figure out what it is by sniffing her the boarhound nearly gets an ear bitten off for his troubles. Preferring not to lose any of his limbs Fang decides to leave her be.
And a couple of days later on the Hogwarts Express on the way back to London with all the other departing students Bailey is carrying a little surprise.
Or, more or less…a few of them.
Boy is Harry going to be surprised when he goes back to Privet Drive big time.
This is about to be one heck of a summer for sure.

How many puppies do you think Bailey should have at the end of her pregnancy?
