(Violet's Pov)
Winter had come in full force and we weren't expecting this storm to hit. I was watching as the snow was falling quickly and I rubbed the back of my neck and Clem comes up next to me as she hands me something warm to drink. We had sent AJ over to the school a few days before the storm hit and honestly it was a good thing we did. I had on my wool lined jacket and I looked down to Clem as I gently take the cup and take a drink. She watched the snow falling as well and I shake my head a bit at this. I couldn't get to the greenhouse and I glare a bit at the snow.
"Are you ok?" She asked.
"I should get some vegetables." I mutter a bit.
"We have enough." She tells me and I look to her a bit then to the snow.
"With how bad this storm is, I'd like to be on the safe side." I tell her.
"Well let me get my jacket and we can get some vegetables." She tells me.
"After we finish these drinks." I tell her and she nods as she goes and puts on some warmer clothes and I look to her fake leg a bit. she looked to me and then taps my foot a bit with her prosthetic and I smile a bit and she looked to me. I had made sure we had gotten the snow boots the ones with studs or whatever at the bottoms so that we could walk in the snow better. Though with her fake leg, I didn't want her to get it stuck in the snow. We were thinking of making something for her, maybe make a leg that she could wear in the winter but I don't know how to make one. She pats my leg a bit and I look to her hand a bit and I take her hand gently in mine. She grips my hand back and I lay my head back a bit and then I look to the flames and to the wood pile a bit.
"You can get the veggies and I can get some wood, or do you need my help?" I asked her.
"I can get the food; I did notice we were running low on wood too." She tells me and I nod a bit and smiled.
"Ok, I can get the wood, thank god AJ and I had cut enough for the school and here." I state and finished my drink and so does she. We then left the cabin and I got her to the greenhouse and I went to work on getting the wood into the house. It took a few trips but as I was getting the last of the wood in cabin and I head back out and see Clem trying to walk in the snow so I helped her into the cabin. She looked a little upset as she stamped her prosthetic to the floor getting the clumps of snow off. I chuckled a bit and kissed her head and she looked to me as I grabbed the vegetables from her.
"I'm going to get some snow and put it in the fridge and freezer." I tell Clem.
"I can help." She says and I nod.
"I'll put the snow in the bucket and hand it to you?" I asked and she nods as I set the food on the counter and we got to work. It didn't take long and I handed her the last bucket to her and I closed the door so no more snow and cold air could get in. I shake my head of any snow and I hear Clem giggle and I look to her a bit as she put the last of the snow in the fridge. We packed up some of the food and I look to her and she was looking out the window before she looked to me.
"Winds picking up a lot." She says and I look to her a bit and nod.
"Yeah, we will be fine, I'm just glad AJ wanted to go to the school." I tell her and I rubbed the back of my neck.
"You think we should have gone?" She asked.
"Maybe… I mean this storm is worse than we've had before… I just… I just wish you had gone." I tell her honestly.
"Hey I've dealt with worse, I literally fell in a frozen lake once." She laughed a bit and I look to her. I get up and work on some stew and we take a seat in the living room and I look to her.
"I want to know more about you." I say to her and she looked to me a bit.
"I think I have told you everything." She says and I get up and I poke the flames as I set a log on the flames to keep it going. I look over to her and I raise a brow at her.
"You sure?" I asked and she thinks a bit and I go over to her and take a seat. She looked to me a bit and tried to say something but no words came out and she went back to thinking.
"Well… I've told you about how I was with Lee, AJ's parents, that other group, Javier's group for a bit though I wouldn't call it a group… oh well maybe." She says and I chuckled a bit.
"What about after you left?" I asked.
"Oh… which time?" She asked.
"When you got bitten?" I asked.
"Well, you already dealt with Till and I swear I'm still pissed off." She mutters and I chuckled a bit and she looked to me and I shrugged.
"Well I get it, I mean I'm still mad at Louis, but I have my reasons just as much as you are with what Till did." I state and she nods.
"You and Louis are at least talking." She says quietly and I think.
"Eh, not really if you want me to be honest with you, I really don't think he should ever have the satisfaction of hearing me say I'm sorry, I'm not and never will be and I'll never accept his apology, he's waited far to long to apologize." I mutter a bit and I feel her pat my back a bit and I lean back trapping her arm and she laughed a bit at this. She pulled her arm from my back or at least tried to and I put a little pressure to keep it there and she laughed again.
"I have trapped you and now you are mine." I joked and she leans her head on my shoulder and I smile a bit.
"Well… The farm AJ was drawing, we did pass by it twice and we did stay there… it was a lovely place if I have to be honest… though we saw a bunch of Walkers and thought it was the whisperers… it's too far close to where the war is." She tells me and I think a bit.
"I don't want to have anyone come here, I don't want that war here, I just want peace and quiet you know?" She asked and I nod at this.
"I like this." She says quietly and I nod at this.
"It might be a jinx." I tell her and she nods a bit and we sat in a comfortable silence. I look over to the flames a bit and we listen to some of the cracks and pops the wood makes when it catches fire. I feel her place her hand on my leg and I hold her hand gently and I look to the ring on her finger as she was able to pull it from behind me.
"I uh… I know we haven't talked much on our relationship." I say quietly.
"We're in a relationship?" She joked and I laughed.
"Ok sorry I should be shouting on the rooftop that you are my girlfriend." I joked and we both laughed and then I think a bit.
"I like wife better." She tells me and I move quickly and she looked to me as I look to her.
"Pardon?" I asked and she shakes her head.
"You heard nothing." She says and I think a bit.
"Did you say you wanted to be my wife?" I asked.
"Clearly I wear the pants in this relationship." She says and points to her pants.
"'m wearing pants too you know." I say pointing to my pants and she thinks.
"I'm stronger." She states.
"I'm strong too." I tell her and she looked to me and raises a brow and I smirked as I flexed for her. She laughed a bit and gripped my bicep a bit and I smirk.
"Ok, ok you have gained some muscle." She says and I nod.
"I can help provide." I tell her and she smiles.
"I can do the same thing." She says and I nod.
"Ok, so wives don't seem to fit us… bitches do though." I say and she busts out laughing and I chuckled at this as well.
"Bad bitches." She says and I chuckled more. We look at each other and I placed my hand to her cheek and she looks to me and she looks over to the flames and I let go of her cheek. She moves closer to me and she is careful of my side and I look to the top of her head a bit. I gently hold her hand and I take a breath as I hear the winds get louder and I look to the window a bit. Snow was still falling like crazy if not it got worse and I slowly get up and look out the window to see the whole porch covered in snow.
"The door must be blocked off by the snow huh?" She asked and I look to Clem a bit as she looked to me. look back to see if I could see the snow and but it was to hard to tell. I shake my head a bit and I go over to her.
"Hard to tell but you are probably right… like always." I say as I take a seat and she cuddles closer to me. I feel her shiver a bit as she got a little closer and I grabbed the blanket that was hanging on the couch and I cover us both up. We just kept looking at the flames and I take a deep breath.
"Sooo… anything else you want to talk about?" I asked her and she shrugs a bit.
"You're very warm." She tells me and I chuckled.
"So, you've been to Canada?" I asked and she nods.
"Yes, not as many walkers but it's not always cold like people think." She says quietly and I rubbed her shoulder a bit.
"Well, that's a good thing, would hate to be in an eternal winter… though the cuddles are nice." I think for a bit and I look to flames more.
"We should sleep in here tonight; I can keep the flames going." I tell her and she nods a bit and I feel her grip my arm with both of hers. I closed my eyes for a bit and I must have fallen asleep because I feel a shift and I open my eyes and look to see Clem as she went to check on the flames. I get up and place a few logs on the fire to keep it going and she looked to me and I just nod a bit.
"You know what would be good right now?" She asked and I look to her. I raised a brow and she smiled a bit to me.
"If we had some music." She says and I laughed at this.
"I'll go and get my guitar." I say as I made sure the flames were good and I head to the room and I grabbed the guitar and then head back to the living room. Clem placed an extra log to be sure and then she comes over to me and we take a seat on the couch and I crossed my legs so I was fully on the couch. I tried to think of something and I plucked a few of the strings but nothing really came to me. I stopped messing with the strings and I scratched my head a bit.
"I always wondered why you never have any sheet music… like Louis does with his piano." Clem says and I look to her.
"I can't read sheet music." I tell her honestly and she looked a little confused and I chuckled.
"I play by sound, pluck some random cords and honestly hope or the best." I explain to her. She looked to my guitar a bit and then to me and I nod.
"Have to say that it's rather impressive… I still wonder if you told me all about you though." She wonders and I smile a bit and think.
"Yeah, though no I haven't told you everything if I'm going to be honest with you… you know some major stuff about me but not a lot." I tell her.
"Well, what don't I know?" She asked. I chuckled a bit and plucked a few strings and then got into the momentum and strummed the guitar a bit.
"Well, for one, I love chocolate, not as much as my chicken nuggets, but I love chocolate, but if it has peanut butter mixed with it, I won't touch it." I tell her.
"Are you allergic to it?" She asked and I shake my head.
"No, I just don't like it, you know those candies that have the peanut butter in the middle of it, and they looked like little cups?" I asked and she nods.
"Yeah, why?" She asked.
"Ironically and stupidly, I hate those, but when they made the cereal for it, I could eat it like no tomorrow." I tell her and when I look to her, she was smiling.
"I also rode a horse once, I was really young so it was one of those small ones, his name was spark, he was so nice and I fed him carrots telling him I would be back the next day… I never got the chance to see him, mom and dad kept fighting." I tell her and I kept stumming away. She stayed silent for a bit and I look to my hand as I kept strumming.
"My dad uh… once threw a beer can at me." I tell her and she looked up to me a bit and I nod. She looked to the flames a bit.
"How can someone hurt their own child though?" She asked out loud and I shrugged.
"People who can have kids but don't know how to be a parent, happened a lot in the old world." I tell her.
"With the way people talked about you or what you've told me, you didn't seem like the type of child to act up." She says and I shake my head.
"Nope, or else I would get in trouble, though it didn't really matter I got in trouble even if I was quiet… I still don't understand a lot of things. I've gotten angry at the younger kids but to hurt them? Never." I tell her and I stop strumming the guitar and I look over to the window as the snow kept falling.
"People just aren't cut out to be parents, they just have kids for social reasons or because they made a mistake one night and decided to keep the kid or kids… and sometimes the kid would suffer or they could have good lives… my life wasn't good, but my grandparents just… they were there for me." I tell her.
"I feel a little guilty now." She says and I set the guitar to the side and looked to her.
"What about?" I asked.
"I had my parents." She says and I look to her a bit and then I rubbed her back gently.
"I took it for granted if I have to be honest… I was a kid but I didn't realize how good I had it… before… All this." She tells me and I think a bit.
"I might not have had them for long but I had something." She tells me and I think some more and I nod and looked to my guitar a bit.
"Nothing to be feeling guilty about, I mean… you lost them at a young age, in a horrible, horrible way… with how highly you talked about them and even Lee… they didn't deserve to go out like that, or at all." I tell her.
"Maybe in some way they're in a better place like Tenn once talked about." She says and I look to her and then I kissed her head gently. I rubbed her shoulder gently and take another deep breath and I try to think of something but nothing came to mind if I was going to be honest. It was like I was drawing a blank at this moment. I shake my head and I make some simple stew for us to eat. We had to ration it since we didn't know how long it was going to take for this storm to pass. Even if it did pass how long was it going to be for the snow to melt enough from the doors. Honestly, they have to be frozen by now with how bad it's gotten.
"Are you ok?" I her as I stir the pot a bit and I look to my side as Clem hands me a mug and I nod.
"Yeah, I'm ok… what about you?" I asked as she cradled her cup in both her hands.
"I think so." She says and then takes a sip of her drink and I take a sip of my own drink. I look back to the stew and tap the spoon to the pot and set it to the side before I yawned a bit.
"Tired?" She asked and I nod.
"Yeah, just a little." I tell her honestly and she nods.
"I can finish up here, go take a nap." She tells me. I shake my head a bit.
"I'll sleep after we've eaten something." I tell her and she wanted to say something and decided to not speak up. We eat or food and once we were done, we just laid on the couch. I had made sure the flames were still going but I felt her shiver a bit and so I take my jacket and wrap her up so she was close to me. even with a blanket she still felt cold. Even with the flames she was cold. I was a little worried.
"Maybe I should take you to the school, you don't seem to be getting warm." I whisper to her.
"Hmm, no I'm just a little cold, you're warm though." She says quietly as she cuddles closer to me.
"Clem." I say and she says nothing. She just moves closer to me and I sighed as I did my best to keep her warm for the night. Moring came and I slowly open my eyes and I shiver a bit from the cold myself and I look to see the flames had died down. I slowly move Clem off of me and she moves a bit but she didn't wake up. I go and start up the flames again and look to see the snow had stopped. I get to work and make a hot pot of coffee and I check on Clem. She was curled up in the blanket and I take my jacket off and place it on top of her. I was ok right now with just a long-sleeved shirt. I checked on everything and then I go over to the door and tried to open it but it wasn't budging. I sighed a bit and looked back to Clem and then I went to the back door.
I tried to open the back but it was hard as I slammed it a bit and finally the ice cracked and I was able to get the door open. I closed the door so no cold air could get in. I then go and check on Clem as she shivers a bit and then she coughed a bit. I frown at this and I placed my hand to her head making her open her eye and she looked at me. she gives a small smile to me and I smile back and she turned her head away and she coughed a bit. I think and I grabbed the coffee and make her a mug making sure it was just warm and not hot. I set it on the table for her and she grabbed it slowly then take a sip and she coughed again. I decided this was enough so I grabbed my boots and I put some extra socks on her foot and then put her boot on for her.
"Hm?" She mutters and I say nothing as I went and grabbed another blanket for her and I hear her cough again. I shake my head a bit and then I hurry over to her and I sit her up and pulled my jacket on her and made sure it was buttoned up. She looked to me a little sad and I shake my head as I wrapped both the blankets around her and she tried to get up but she sat back down. I then picked her up and take her to the back door. I was able to open the door and walk out then close it. I started to head to the school as fast as I could. Clem would cough here and there as I kept walking through the snow. I get to the gate and I look to it and I see the door to the school open.
"Violet?" I hear as I see Louis and he runs over to the gate.
"Ruby where is she?" I asked as I hurry and bring Clementine in the school.
"She's in her room, what's-."
"Get her please." I say as I set Clem in the music room where I see Marlon and he comes over with Omar. Clem coughed a bit and we check on her. She tried to wave it off but then she would cough again and pull the blankets around her more. Ruby comes in and looks Clem over and we take her to my old room. I lay her on the bed and she coughed again and Ruby goes to get something and I grabbed the chair over by the desk and place it next to the bed. I look to her as she shivers and I look in the closet to see there was another blanket and I bring it over to Clementine. She shakes her head and I placed the blanket under her head so she was a little comfortable. It wasn't long till Ruby came back and I look to her as she brings over something warm for Clementine to drink and I lean back a bit in the chair. Ruby then looked to me and motioned for the door and I nod as I get up and kissed Clem on the head then left the room with Ruby.
"She's got a fever so it might be the flu, not to sure… did you two eat anything bad?" She asked and I shake my head.
"No not that I know of, I mean I'm fine so it can't be food poisoning." I explained and placed my hands on my hips as I tried to think.
"It was really cold in the cabin even with the flames going… fuck there could be a draft or something." I mutter and then look to Ruby.
"Well, she should be fine so long as she stays in this room and we keep giving her something warm to drink and eat, Omar made some back up broth since… you know." She says and I nod. When the winter got bad like this Omar made sure to make extra so if some got sick we could give them more to drink.
"Now come on, you're only in a long-sleeve shirt." She says and she pats my arm and I look to her.
"Oh no I'm fine, trust me-."
"Still need to keep you warm too." She says and I rubbed the back of my neck a bit.
"I'll just go in the music room real quick… is AJ in his room?" asked and she nods.
"Yeah, he was asking what was going on and I told him you two were here but Clem isn't feeling well." She tells me and I nod a bit and looked to the ground. We then head to the music room and Ruby hands me a jacket and I nod and put it on and look to the others and I see AJ come in and I look to him.
"Is Clem ok?" He asked.
"She's fine Hon, just the common cold." Ruby tells him and he looked to me and I nod.
"Yeah, she's in my room if you want to check on her, just don't be in there too long, I'll be there in a bit." I tell him and he nods as he leaves the room and heads to mine.
"Never thought I'd see Clementine get sick." I hear and look to Omar.
"You know, same." I tell him and he works on making some more soup for everyone. It wasn't long till I head back to the dorming area but I was stopped by Louis and I look to him.
"Is she ok?" He asked.
"I'm going to check on her." I tell him.
"I can check on-."
"I got it."
"Seems like you don't." He says and I glare at him a bit.
"People get sick Louis, if it didn't happen today, it could have happened tomorrow, or next fucking week." I tell him and he raised his hands up.
"I'm just saying the cabin doesn't seem like a winter home area." He says and I shake my head.
"You know what, go build a fucking house, the cabin can just have a simple draft." I tell him and he looked to me.
"I don't want any fucking bullshit today, not now, so don't start with me… not today." I warn him and he looked to the side a bit then back to me.
"It would be best if she just stayed here… and not go back-."
"Don't… just… shut up before I punch you." I threatened him.
"Listen Violet, you can live out there all you want, but she is sick because-"
"And people have gotten sick while here… I get it you're worried, I'm fucking terrified right now, and you saying all this is making it worse on me… do you know how bad I feel? The fact that she is sick… makes it ten times worse Louis." I tell him and he placed his hands on his hips.
"Look, until that place is best suited for her, I'm just suggesting she stays here." He tells me and I just nod. He was right, but he didn't have to make it seem like she has to stay here and never go back to our home. I then head to my room and I checked on Clementine a bit and she was sleeping and AJ was in the chair and he looked to me a bit and he nods and I check on Clem a bit. The day went by pretty fast and I was watching Clem as she ate some of her soup and she looked to me.
"Hey." She says and I look to her.
"Are you ok?" I asked her.
"I asked you first." She says and takes a spoon full of her soup and I think back to what Louis says.
"Yeah, I'm fine." I tell her and she looked to me.
"You don't seem fine… are you sick too?" She asked and I shake my head.
"No, I'm fine trust me."
"Are you sure?" She asked and I nod again. When she finished her food, she laid back down and I take the bowl back to get cleaned. Once done AJ said he would watch Clem and I think a bit and nod as he heads to the room. I made sure to leave when everyone was asleep and I had gone in the cabin and I looked around a bit inside as I tried to figure out what was going on. I rubbed the back of my neck and I feel some cold air and I look to see the window was cracked and I looked to see the panel was pushed in a bit. I checked every other part of the house as well just to be safe and saw some form of wood rot and I go and check under the cabin as well. I find some more wood that had rotted and I look to make sure there was no mold either. As I was about to get out from under the house, I hear some shuffling in the snow and I stopped as I backed up a bit and saw some legs. I looked to see some Walkers and I grabbed the knife on my side just to be safe.
The Walkers don't seem to notice me which is a little strange but then they walk away in the direction of the school. I stay under the cabin and then I poke my head out a bit and see more Walkers and I go back under. I made sure to cover up the panel so they couldn't get to me as easily and I rubbed my head a bit as I sit up under the cabin. I tried to think of what I could do and I look around under the cabin to see if there was any way to get in but there was nothing. I head back to the panel and then hear something. It was a soft sound, but I could hear whispering.
"You think anyone is here?" A person whispers and I keep silent.
"Doubt it." Another person whispers.
"Hmm, we should check to be safe."
"Yeah, I see a greenhouse, maybe there is food."
"What if there is someone here?" A new person whispers.
"We kill them?" One of them questioned.
"Why don't we just knock? They might be harmless."
"No one is good here." A man whispers and I hear them go up the steps. I stayed quiet and listen to them as they look through the cabin a bit and I rubbed the back of my head. It was best to just wait it out. When they were looking through the cabin making comments on how there was food here and that there was other things they could take. I go back over to the panel to hear if there was anyone outside. I don't hear anyone but the others leave the cabin and they talk more about what they were going to do.
"There is a school not far from here." I hear one of them whisper.
"Don't bother them, they're no harm." I hear.
"Of course they are bad, no one is good." One man says and I look around more for any way out.
"Don't bother them." The man says again and then it's quiet and I don't move but something must have made a noise because I hear someone hush the others and I look to the panel. I keep my knife out and looked to the panel more but nothing happens.
"Let's go." I hear and then I hear more people walking and I stay silent. Don't know how long I had been there for and I started to feel cold and I rubbed my arm a bit to try and keep warm. I think enough time has passed and so I moved the panel and I crawl out and head inside the cabin to see if there was anything good taken. I then looked in mine and Clem's room and I look and see they didn't take Clem's pistol and I sighed in relief and I put the pistol in my back pocket before I hear the wood creek. I turn a bit and I see what looked to be a Walker but they don't seem to come at me.
"You live here?" They whisper and I just looked to them and I put my hand to the gun. She looks at me and then to my hand.
"I won't hurt you." She says to me as she lifts her hands up a bit. I still keep my hand to the gun and I keep watching her.
"Do you live here?" She asked again and I nod.
"I'm sorry we took some food." She says and I nod.
"It's fine." I tell her and she looked a little confused.
"People get hungry… I know that feeling… so it's ok." I tell her and she nods at this.
"Do you know the school?" She asked and I nod.
"Are they good?" She asked and I nod again.
"My family is there." I tell her.
"Family?" She asked and I nod again.
"Your group plans on hurting them?" I asked.
"No, we don't want to… will they hurt us?" She asked.
"If you plan to take their home yes… I'd suggest not going there." I tell her and she nods.
"We might-."
"Don't go there, I'm warning you." I threatened her. She looked to me and she looked a little scared and then she looked to my hand where the gun was.
"We won't cause harm." She tells me.
"That one guy seems to want to cause harm, trust me, it's best if you just keep going and don't go near the school." I warn her and then I see Louis as he comes up behind and knocked the girl out. I look to him as he looked to me. He looked scared and he looked to me a bit.
"Shit I just… I thought." He tried to say and I go over to the girl and made sure she was at least breathing. She was and I look to Louis as we get her on the couch and I think for anything that might happen.
"What are you doing here?" I asked a bit panicked.
"Clementine was asking for you and I went to get you but you weren't anywhere and I thought… after what I said I just thought you would be here… I saw a bunch of people in the woods with Walkers." He tells me and I look to the side a bit to the woman and I rubbed the back of my neck.
"Look, we can't be seen with her, we have to go back to the school." I tell him.
"You're just going to leave her here?" He asked.
"Have no choice, they've been in here already so it wouldn't be that strange." I mutter a bit and then I look to Louis.
"OK… fuck I… is she ok?" He asked.
"Seems like it, you just knocked her out." I tell him and then I go and grabbed anything I could and put it in the backpack we had. Louis and I then leave the cabin and head back to the school in the back area so we wouldn't get seen. It seems to have worked well enough that we were able to get in through the back of the school. We hurry inside and Louis explains what he heard and saw to the others and I go over to check on Clem who didn't look too good.
