Laguna, Julia; a first love, a last look.

She knows him, by now; she knows his moods, his imposter syndrome, the way he often blames himself for things he has no power on, the way he always feels much more responsible than he should. She knows if he came to her, then something happened, and she just wants to help.

This story takes place in game and resolves a few plot holes. Once complete, this story will be part one of a two part series. The second part will deal with the aftermath of the second sorceress war.

Accepting a destiny of greatness and never faltering in her belief that despite appearances to the contrary on far too many occasions, Selphie always felt everything would be all right in the end. She doubts now. The end is over, and all is not right.

"Yeah. It's just-" He shakes his head, trying to find the right words for what he's feeling. Something warm, something caring, something… cherished. Something he's not quite sure he deserves. "I don't think I deserve it, I guess." [or, the day Squall and Rinoa started using pet names for each other.]

He may be more open to her, but he is still sometimes closed, his feelings are sometimes still jumbled, and he still has a hard time expressing himself, as if he doesn't know the right words for the things he feels. There are times she knows she can't hold him too tight or he feels suffocated, and she respects that. It's part of loving him.

Squall looks at him, and then at his girlfriend, and then at him again, and when his eyes finally settle on Rinoa he sighs, as if defeated, squeezing the bridge of his nose between his fingers. "Hyne," he mutters, and he does sound a little defeated. "I swear only you two could manage to bond on your crazy plans that somehow inexplicably worked."

A pardon doesn't promise reintegration. Quistis finally gets around to returning Hyperion and gets more than she bargained for. Language.

Astride Sleipnir, and wearing Odin's pale armour, the Destroyer of Garland bludgeons his way through Dollet's war-torn second city, which is bolstered by the mobile Galbadia Garden and the timely arrival of Tyris Almasy and Ballad Deling.

A mere month after hearing the shocking news of his parentage, Squall is invited to Esthar by everyone's favorite Desperado to celebrate Ellone's upcoming birthday. Laguna struggles with trying to lay the foundation for a relationship with his son, while Squall just struggles with Laguna in general. (Loire family fluff, but mostly Squall/Laguna oyako centered.)

She doesn't need to say it, and yet she wants it out in the open, she wants to shed her skin as he did back then, make herself vulnerable so he knows that she loves him, so deeply, so thoroughly, so unconditionally, and so he knows how grateful she is, how humbled, and how honored, because he is the true force holding her scattered, badly-glued pieces together.

Quistis is looking for another promotion. Zell is looking for some action with that cute library girl. And Seifer? He's just looking for trouble.
