Eren's heart pounded in his chest as he and Mikasa darted through the fog-shrouded forest, desperately searching for their missing comrades. The once-familiar landscape had transformed into a maze of shadows and echoes, the fog swirling like a living entity, swallowing everything in its path. Every creak of a branch, every rustle of leaves sent his nerves on edge, his mind imagining Titans lurking behind every tree.

His thoughts raced, torn between the need to regroup and the crushing guilt of having led his squad into this chaos. I should have done better. I should have kept them together.

"Eren," Mikasa's voice cut through the tension like a blade, her calmness grounding him. "We'll find them."

He nodded, though the knot of anxiety in his chest didn't ease. They had to find them. They couldn't afford to lose anyone, not here, not in training. How could they hope to fight Titans if they couldn't even complete a training exercise without falling apart?

Suddenly, a scream pierced the air—high-pitched and filled with terror. Eren's blood ran cold as he recognized the voice.

"Armin!"

Without a second thought, Eren shot forward, the hooks of his ODM gear embedding in the nearest tree as he propelled himself through the forest. Mikasa followed close behind, her movements as precise and controlled as ever.

The scream came again, closer this time, and Eren felt a surge of adrenaline push him faster. His mind was a blur of fear and determination. He couldn't lose Armin. Not like this.

As they burst through the fog, the sight before them made Eren's stomach twist.

Armin was on the ground, struggling to move as a massive Titan loomed over him, its mouth wide open, ready to devour him whole. The Titan's hand reached out, its fingers wrapping around Armin's body, lifting him into the air.

"Armin!" Eren screamed, his mind snapping into action.

He fired his hooks into the trees, launching himself toward the Titan with blinding speed. His blades flashed in the dim light as he slashed through the Titan's arm, severing the muscles and tendons. The creature let out a deafening roar of pain as its hand slackened, dropping Armin to the ground.

Before the Titan could react, Mikasa was there, her blades slicing clean through the nape of its neck with practiced precision. The Titan's body went limp, crashing to the ground in a heap of steam and flesh.

Eren landed beside Armin, his heart still racing. "Are you okay?" he asked, his voice tight with worry as he knelt beside his friend.

Armin nodded weakly, his breath coming in ragged gasps. "I… I'm okay. Thank you, Eren. I thought…" His voice trailed off, his eyes wide with the lingering terror of the near-death experience.

Eren helped Armin to his feet, relief flooding through him. But it was quickly replaced by the cold reality of their situation. "Where's Connie and Sasha?" he asked, his eyes scanning the fog once more.

Armin shook his head. "I don't know. We got separated when the Titans appeared. I tried to find them, but…"

Eren clenched his jaw, frustration and fear warring within him. They had to keep moving, had to find the others before it was too late. But the fog made everything so much harder, turning the forest into a labyrinth of danger.

"We'll find them," Eren said, more to himself than to Armin. He couldn't let this be another failure. He couldn't lose more comrades. Not again.

Mikasa nodded, her expression as calm and resolute as ever. "Let's keep moving. We'll cover more ground together."

The three of them moved swiftly through the trees, their senses on high alert for any sign of their missing comrades—or the Titans that still lurked in the fog. Every minute felt like an eternity, the tension growing with each step.

Then, they heard it—a faint voice calling out in the distance.

"Help!"

Eren's heart leaped as he recognized Sasha's voice. Without hesitation, he led the way, his feet barely touching the ground as he raced toward the sound. The fog parted just enough to reveal a clearing, where Sasha was backed against a tree, her blades drawn as a Titan bore down on her.

Connie was there too, desperately trying to draw the Titan's attention away from Sasha, but his movements were erratic, his fear evident in every swing of his blades.

"Connie! Sasha!" Eren shouted, drawing the Titan's attention as he fired his hooks into the nearby trees.

The Titan turned, its beady eyes locking onto Eren as it let out a low growl. Eren's body moved on instinct, his mind calculating every angle, every movement. He darted to the side, drawing the Titan's gaze away from his comrades.

"Now!" Eren shouted to Mikasa.

In perfect synchronization, Mikasa and Eren launched themselves toward the Titan. Mikasa struck first, her blades sinking deep into the back of the Titan's knees, forcing it to the ground. Eren followed up with a swift strike to the nape of its neck, severing its life force in one clean motion.

The Titan's body crumpled to the ground, steam rising from its corpse as Eren and Mikasa landed gracefully beside it.

Sasha and Connie stumbled over to them, their faces pale but filled with relief. "Thanks," Connie panted, wiping sweat from his brow. "I thought we were goners."

Sasha nodded, her usually bright demeanor dimmed by the close call. "I don't know what happened. One second, we were all together, and the next… everything just went wrong."

Eren took a deep breath, his mind racing as he tried to process everything that had happened. They had made it out alive, but only barely. And it was his fault that they had been in danger in the first place.

"We need to get back to camp," Eren said, his voice firmer than he felt. "We've completed the exercise. Let's go."

No one argued. They were all too exhausted, too shaken by what they had just experienced. As they made their way back through the forest, the fog began to lift, revealing the familiar sight of the training grounds in the distance.

When they finally reached the edge of the trees, Instructor Shadis was waiting for them, his stern gaze sweeping over the group as they stumbled out of the forest.

"Yeager," Shadis barked, his tone as unforgiving as ever. "What happened out there?"

Eren straightened, trying to keep his voice steady. "We encountered Titans, sir. We were separated, but we regrouped and neutralized the threat."

Shadis studied him for a long moment, his expression unreadable. Then, with a curt nod, he said, "You survived. That's what matters. But don't let it happen again. Next time, you may not be so lucky."

Eren nodded, the weight of Shadis' words settling over him like a heavy cloak. He had survived. They all had. But luck wouldn't always be on their side.

As they made their way back to the barracks, Eren couldn't shake the feeling that something was changing within him—something dark and dangerous, born from the weight of leadership and the constant threat of failure.

He had always believed that his resolve was unbreakable, that his desire to fight for humanity would carry him through any challenge. But now, he wasn't so sure.

Because being a leader wasn't just about skill or strength. It was about responsibility—responsibility for the lives of others, for the choices that could mean the difference between life and death.

And that burden was heavier than anything Eren had ever imagined.
