After a month of faithfully taking his potions and regularly seeing his mind healer, Lucius began to feel a significant improvement. The constant dread that had gripped him was slowly loosening its hold, and with Rodolphus by his side, Lucius found a sense of stability he hadn't felt in a long time. The support of his family and friends, coupled with the mind healer's guidance, helped him begin to heal, both mentally and physically.
Today, Lucius had an important healer's appointment to check on the baby and ensure everything was progressing as it should. His heart fluttered with a mix of nerves and anticipation as he waited in the parlor with Rodolphus, Harden, and Abraxas.
The healer arrived via the Floo Network, stepping out of the fireplace with a professional yet warm demeanor. She took one look at Lucius, her gaze assessing him carefully. "How are you feeling, Lucius?" she asked, her tone gentle yet probing.
Lucius shifted slightly, uncomfortable under the weight of his own symptoms. "Bloated, still," he admitted, rubbing his stomach unconsciously. "And sick all the time. My back hurts so much it feels like my spine is going to break," he added with a frown, his voice tinged with frustration and exhaustion.
Harden, Abraxas, and Rodolphus exchanged concerned glances. Lucius had mentioned discomfort before, but the intensity of his symptoms was alarming to hear out loud.
The healer nodded, her expression serious. "I'm going to scan you," she said, pulling out her wand and casting a diagnostic spell over Lucius. A soft light hovered over his abdomen, revealing the internal state of his body.
After a few moments of studying the results, the healer's brow furrowed. "You're right to be concerned, Lucius," she said, her tone factual but not unkind. "Your symptoms indicate preeclampsia, which is a condition marked by high blood pressure and can be dangerous for both you and the baby if left untreated. Your back pain and bloating are likely due to swelling, and the sickness might be linked to it as well."
Lucius's eyes widened, fear coursing through him. "Preeclampsia? Is my baby in danger?" he asked, his voice trembling slightly.
The healer nodded, her expression serious but still reassuring. "It's a condition that can lead to serious complications if not managed properly. The good news is, we've caught it early. I'm going to prescribe a strong nutrition potion, as well as a blood pressure-regulating potion, to stabilize your condition. We need to monitor you closely, but I believe with these precautions, you can still deliver safely."
She turned to Harden, her eyes narrowing slightly in thought. "Harden, did you experience similar issues when you were pregnant with Lucius?" she asked, clearly connecting the dots.
Harden nodded slowly, memories of his own difficult pregnancy surfacing. "I did. Why?" he asked, a note of concern in his voice.
The healer nodded, her suspicions confirmed. "It must be genetic then," she concluded, turning her attention back to Lucius.
Lucius's worry deepened. "Will the potions help? Is my baby going to be okay?" he asked, his voice barely above a whisper.
Harden moved closer, taking Lucius's hand in his own and squeezing it reassuringly. "You'll be fine, Lucius," he said, his voice filled with fatherly concern and confidence.
The healer nodded, echoing Harden's reassurance. "You will be fine, Lucius. I promise. If we start these treatments right away and keep monitoring your condition, we can prevent serious complications," she assured him, her tone firm and comforting. "Abraxas," she added, turning to Lucius's father, "can you send for the potions immediately?"
Abraxas nodded, already moving to make the necessary arrangements. "I'll take care of it," he said, his tone determined.
The healer then smiled, her expression softening. "Do you want to know the baby's gender?" she asked, her voice lighter now that the immediate concerns were addressed.
Lucius looked over at Rodolphus, searching his eyes for his opinion. When Rodolphus nodded with a small smile, Lucius turned back to the healer. "Yes, I do," he said, his voice steady with anticipation.
The healer's smile widened as she revealed, "It's a boy. Congratulations!"
Lucius blinked back tears, overwhelmed with emotion. "Thank you," he whispered, his voice choked with happiness.
The healer gave him a gentle nod. "I'll take my leave now. Congratulations again, Lucius. Remember, we need to keep monitoring you closely, so don't hesitate to call me if you feel any discomfort or changes."
As the healer left, Lucius turned to Harden, a chuckle escaping his lips as the reality of it all began to sink in. "I'm having a boy, Mama," he said, his voice filled with a mixture of awe and joy.
Harden's face lit up with a beaming smile. "My baby is having a boy! This is wonderful, Lucius," he exclaimed, his eyes shining with pride and happiness.
Abraxas stepped forward, his own smile broad. "Very wonderful, Lucius. We're all so proud of you."
Rodolphus, who had been quietly watching the exchange, finally spoke up, his voice filled with warmth. "Now my baby girl will have a protector around her age," he said with a smile, the idea of their children growing up together filling him with contentment.
Lucius chuckled softly, the sound light and genuine. "Yeah, Emmy will have a little protector," he agreed, the idea bringing him a sense of peace. He then turned to Rodolphus, a hint of something more serious in his eyes. "Rodolphus, can we go for a walk in the gardens?" he asked, needing some fresh air and a moment of calm to process everything.
Rodolphus nodded, taking Lucius's hand in his own. "Of course, Luc. Let's go."
The two of them walked through the lush gardens of the Manor, the evening air cool and refreshing against their skin. The scent of blooming flowers and the quiet rustle of leaves in the breeze created a peaceful atmosphere that helped ease Lucius's mind.
"Rod, thanks for walking with me," Lucius said softly, appreciating the quiet companionship of his friend.
Rod smiled, giving Lucius's hand a gentle squeeze. "My pleasure, Luc. But are you okay? You've been pretty quiet," he asked, concern lacing his voice.
Lucius took a deep breath, his thoughts heavy as he finally voiced what had been on his mind. "I'm okay, just thinking… I want Severus to give up his rights. I'm not going to let him take my boy. He's dead to me," Lucius said firmly, his voice filled with a resolute finality.
Rod nodded in understanding. "Your father will take care of that. Do you want to go tell him now?" he offered, ready to support Lucius in whatever decision he made.
Lucius nodded, his resolve strengthening with each passing moment. "Yes, let's go tell him," he said, turning back toward the Manor.
They walked back inside, the weight of the decision pressing on Lucius's mind, but with Rodolphus by his side, he felt ready to face whatever came next.
"Father," Lucius called as they entered the sitting room where Abraxas and Harden were talking. "I don't want Severus to have any rights to my baby boy."
Abraxas looked up, meeting his son's determined gaze. "Okay, Lucius. I'll deal with it," he said with a nod, his voice firm with promise.
At that moment, Tom walked into the room with Harden, his usual air of authority softened by a rare smile. "Congratulations, Lucius, on the boy," he said, his voice carrying a note of genuine warmth.
Lucius smiled back, the rare use of the affectionate nickname filling him with a sense of comfort. "Thanks, Gramps," he replied, the informal term a sign of the deep bond between them.
Tom chuckled, a nostalgic look crossing his face. "Just like your mom when I found out about you. How are you feeling altogether?" he asked, his tone a mix of curiosity and concern.
Lucius took a moment to reflect before answering. "I'm okay. I'm on anxiety potions again, so I'm feeling better," he said honestly, appreciating the support from those around him.
Tom nodded approvingly. "Good. Keep taking care of yourself, Lucius. You're going to be a great father," he said, his tone filled with pride.
Lucius's heart swelled at the words, the weight of everything he had been through starting to feel a bit lighter. He had a long road ahead, but with his family, Rodolphus, and the little boy growing inside him, he knew he wouldn't be walking it alone
