Parasoul always told Umbrella 'Never leave the castle at night.' or 'You know the rules and you know that at this time you have to sleep.' But now, the girl was walking through the streets of the city, the people who were on the street ignored her or did not give her much importance, which annoyed the girl.
"This is bullshit. First the other soldiers can't answer my question, then Parasoul can't give me a simple answer, and now this? What's next!?" the girl yelled but at that moment the girl heard a noise and she turned around only to see a truck approaching.
Everything was in slow motion. Umbrella couldn't move because her body was paralyzed by fear and the truck wouldn't stop, the girl just closed her eyes expecting the worst but suddenly she felt as if someone had tackled her and she opened her eyes only to see a mask.
"Hey, girl. Are you okay?" I asked worriedly as Umbrella slowly seemed to recover from her shock.
"Yes, I'm fine. But who are you?" Umbrella asked in surprise.
"Call me, elemental wizard. What is your name?" I asked curiously as the girl looked at my hero outfit.
"My name is Umbrella, and this is my friend Hungern." The little girl said as she introduced herself and then to her umbrella. I looked at Hungern with surprise since I never thought I would see an umbrella with so many eyes but above all with life.
"It's nice to meet you, umbrella, as well as your friend, but what is a little girl doing here alone at this time of night?" I asked curiously making the little girl quickly think of something.
"I got lost. I was playing in the park but then I lost sight of my sister, so I'm trying to get back home." Umbrella said making me just nod.
"I understand. Well, if you want I can take you home. After all, it is very late and these streets are not entirely safe." I said while looking at the girl but Umbrella didn't seem very trusting.
"I don't know. I've never seen you in this city before, I'm sorry but although I appreciate that you saved my skin. That doesn't inspire me confidence to take you to my house, where are you from exactly?" Umbrella asked with some curiosity which caught my attention.
"I'm from another town called New Salem. I was sent here to find a woman named Bloodgood, she's the principal of a school called Monster High. She's been missing for two weeks, so I was contacted to find her, last time I was informed that she I was here because his horse brought me to this city." I said with some seriousness but the girl seemed horrified.
"God. That's terrible, um. Well, and did you have any luck finding her?" Umbrella asked fearfully causing me to shake my head.
"I wish I could have found her but I didn't, I already searched a part of the city, but I still can't find anything, not even a trace or a clue. But I won't lose hope of finding her." I said seriously making the girl feel a little more relieved.
"What a relief. But, to be honest, I think you should be very careful, these streets are not safe at all, much less for someone new." Umbrella said which caught my attention.
"What are you talking about, Umbrella?" I asked curiously but noticed that the girl was looking around her with some concern.
"This place is not the perfect place to talk. Let's go somewhere else, I know the perfect place." Umbrella said as she and I were leaving but we both didn't notice two people who saw us from a vehicle.
Umbrella and I had come to an ice cream shop to speak, although I can't deny that I was a little hungry. Listening that there was the taste of salted caramel reminded me of a certain ice cream that I tried to make with my best friend Barry.
"So. Umbrella, what is the problem with this city?" I ask curiously while the girl and I sat at a table away from people.
"Very well. Listen, this city may seem calm and peaceful but it is different when the night comes. Even if you do not believe it, this city can become very dangerous and did not say it by the multiple thieves or murderers, he said it by a mafia that controls the city. The Medici Mafia." Umbrella said seriously which surprised me by the seriousness of the girl.
"The Medici mafia?. Because of your seriousness it seems that these people are very dangerous." I said surprised making Umbrella of an assent.
"You have no idea. These people are more than dangerous, they are damn murderers. If someone arrives in this city quickly it will be the focus of the Medici, they are literally everywhere. So much that they are even camouflaged in people as mere civilians, they are not to take them as a simple joke. They take all loose end as something serious."
"They are very serious people when it comes to this kind of thing, the Medici can cause all kinds of things." Umbrella said which left me very shocked.
"But. How is it possible that the police do nothing about it?" I ask very surprised to make the girl look everywhere before whispering.
"Believe me. The police in this city are just a bad joke, they are just idiots who eat donuts every day. There are rumors that these policemen were bought by the Medici making them only respond to the call of the crime only to robberies and those hoaxes."
"On the other hand, if the Medici commit any crime or murder, I can assure you those idiots won't move a muscle to try to catch them. And if they do, they'll free that person in one night." Umbrella said, which made me a little angry but also really surprised.
"Simply put, this is almost like Gotham City." I whispered with annoyance which caught the girl's attention.
"Gotham City? What city is that?" Umbrella asked curiously making me a bit nervous as I didn't think she could hear him.
"It's a city somewhat similar to this one. The only difference is that the police do everything they can to stop crime on the streets. Robberies, murders, street fights, arms or drug trafficking. You can say that they are very normal things, So much so that the people who live in that city got used to it and now they see it as something normal." I said seriously which surprised Hungern and Umbrella a lot.
"Shit. That city then is hell compared to this city. Makes the Medici just a joke." The girl said with surprise making me nod.
"Yeah, I guess that's one way to spell it out. I think it would be best if it came to your home, it's almost midnight already." I said while looking at the time on my Icoffin. My statement petrified the girl.
"Damn. Parasoul will give me the lecture of my life if I'm not in my room." Umbrella whispered fearfully as I stood up.
Umbrella took my hand before leaving the ice cream parlor with me. We were both walking in silence but something told me that they were following us which made me walk a little faster which surprised the girl.
"Hey, what's the rush?" Umbrella asked with some concern but noticed that I had a serious expression.
"They're following us. Stay close to me and don't let go of me." I said seriously causing the girl to get scared.
We both started to walk faster as I could hear the noise of a car approaching. I was ready to pick umbrella up but was caught off guard when someone pushed me causing me to fall to the ground, I looked straight ahead only to see Umbrella being picked up and held by another man.
"Get your hands off me you son of a bitch!!" Umbrella yelled as she tried to free herself but it was useless.
"Easy little one, relax." The man in the yellow shirt said with a smile while the other person who was slightly fatter and in a red shirt looked at me.
"This is interesting. You must be new to this town, sorry for not introducing ourselves but. My name is Lawrence and my friend who has that girl is Riccardo. We're just curious who you are exactly." The man in the red shirt said as I stood up.
"Let the girl go, she didn't do anything. If you want to talk to me then let her go." I said seriously but that made both men laugh.
"Look buddy. Don't try to play the hero, so you'd better start singing. It would be a shame if all you can hear is this poor little girl's cries." Lawrence said with a smile but that made me angry.
"I won't repeat it. Leave the girl out of this, or I'll have you let her go myself." I said angrily but that made the man in the red shirt angry.
"You have no idea who you're messing with, you fucking ingrate. Guess we'll just have to show you what happens if you mess with one of us!!" Lawrence yelled before pulling out a knife. The man would try to stab my shoulder but I quickly grabbed his wrist.
"But what. Let go of me!!" The man yelled but I just punched him hard in the stomach bringing Lawrence to his knees.
At that moment Riccardo and Umbrella saw that Lawrence would try to attack me again but vines would come out of the ground immobilizing the man in the red shirt before throwing him roughly into the street.
Umbrella quickly seized the moment to bite Riccardo on the hand causing the man to drop the girl as he let out a cry of pain.
"Ah! You damn bitch!!" Riccardo yelled before slapping Umbrella causing the girl to fall to the ground.
I quickly ran to see the girl and suddenly my eyes lost shine seeing Umbrella had a hand mark on one of her cheeks and tears were falling from her cheeks. At that moment everyone felt that the place seemed to get cold and I looked at Riccardo with a cold gaze.
"I will only say it once. Take your friend and get out of my sight right now, before I personally deal with giving them the punishment they deserve." I said coldly while making fire appear in my hands, that scared Riccardo but the man would try to get serious.
"Damn son of a bitch. Don't play with me!!" Riccardo quickly pulled out a gun and would shoot me but at that moment an amber magic shield would protect me from the shots without any difficulty until Riccardo ran out of bullets.
"I told you to. Go away!!" I yelled before launching a fireball causing Riccardo to fly and crash into his car door.
"Shit. Let's get out of here!!" The man yelled as he and Lawrence got into the car and drove away as fast as possible.
At that moment I heard a small sob and noticed that Umbrella was sobbing as he put his hand on the place where Riccardo hit him, Hungern looked worried and tried to cheer the girl up but it was useless.
"Please Umbrella, let me see." I said as she kneeled me in front of the girl and I see the mark of the blow.
"Ivy Element: Healing Plant." At that moment Umbrella noticed how a plant grew in one of my hands and would release a blue gas. The girl at that moment felt how slowly the pain began to disappear while I watched as the wound slowly disappeared completely.
"How are you feeling, Umbrella?" I ask while looking at the girl.
"How did you do it? I don't feel anything, I feel like I've never been hit before." Umbrella said in surprise making me smile.
"I'm so glad to hear that. It's time to go, before those idiots come back." I said seriously as I got up. Umbrella was going to do the same but she noticed that my mask had fallen off, the girl would quickly grab the mask before I knew it and stood up while Hungern seemed to eat the mask.
"What are you exactly?" Umbrella asked curiously making me look at her.
"I am a hero, Umbrella. And as a hero, my job is to defend my loved ones and the people, always." I said with a smile causing Umbrella to smile as well before picking up Hungern.
"I have an idea for us to find your home. But you'd better get on my back and hold Hungern real good." I said as I lean forward making Umbrella climb on my back.
"Hold on tight, Umbrella. We're leaving now." I said smiling as I start to fly causing the girl to be surprised and start laughing.
"Isn't that right!! You're flying!? You're really flying!? This is amazing!!" Umbrella yelled as she, Hungern and I slowly began to fly away.
Somewhere else. Riccardo and Lawrence were arriving at a building that was in the city, the two men began to walk with some difficulty through the corridors until they reached an elevator and then took it and slowly began to climb.
"Shit. My ribs still hurt from that fireball, who the fuck was that guy?" Riccardo asked in pain while Lawrence seemed to have a sore back.
"I don't know who the fuck that idiot is. But one thing is for sure, that son of a bitch and that brat are dead." Lawrence said with some difficulty as they reached the highest part of the building and then continued walking through the corridors.
Inside a room. A man was looking at the city while next to the other person there was a man with glasses. At that moment the two men heard the door open and saw Lawrence and Riccardo enter.
"Lawrence, Riccardo. I hope you have a good reason to be here knowing that when I'm with my father I don't want to be disturbed." Said the man with glasses seriously causing the two thugs to get scared, his fear grew bigger when they saw a woman with a gun and another girl but she had her arms crossed and her eyes closed.
"My apologies, Mr. Vitale. But, we have something to tell you and it is very serious." Lawrence said nervously which caught the attention of the two men in the room.
"Well, I'm not hearing how important they have to say." Vitale said seriously making the two men gulp before speaking.
"What happened is that this subject is not normal. He attacked me with a strong blow when he did not respond to my request, I tried to attack him but the only thing I got was that he entangled me with some species of vines and I threw myself into the street, when I saw Riccardo face him I couldn't help but feel a chill in the room." Lawrence said making Riccardo speak again.
"It's true. I tried to shoot that ingrate when that brat bit me, but some kind of shield prevented me from hurting him. When I tried to defend myself he threw a ball of fire at my chest, we had no choice but to get out of there before he did make us worse." Riccardo said with some pain causing the room to go silent.
"Well, I have to admit Vitale. You have some very funny men in your group of thugs." Said the man in the chair with a mocking tone while the man with glasses seemed annoyed.
"Lawrence, Riccardo. If you two came all this way just to play a dirty joke, then you better get out of this place before I personally see to it that you don't get paid or see to it that you never come back bother ." Vitale said seriously which scared both men.
"Sir we can swear, it's not a joke. You look at the wound Riccardo has on his chest." Lawrence said fearfully causing the other man to show a burn wound on his chest.
Vitale was going to speak but at that moment the man in the chair raised his hand while the man looked at everything seriously.
"I know every inhabitant in this city like the back of my hand, and as far as I know. I only know one person who is capable of doing things like that, though. I highly doubt it's her, tell me. What exactly was that guy like?." The man asked with curiosity and seriousness making the two men nervous.
"He was tall, white hair, he was wearing a black trench coat, however, we couldn't recognize his face because he was wearing a mask but. We could tell his eyes were magenta." Riccardo said which caught the attention of the man in the chair.
"Tell me, Dahlia. Have you ever seen someone with white hair and magenta eyes?" The man asked as he looked at the woman who was using a gun.
"Never, Mr. Lorenzo. I know every person in this city and I've never seen anyone with that description." The woman said seriously making Lorenzo get serious.
"What do you think of all this, father?" Vitale asked curiously as Lorenzo turned around and looked at the city.
"This could be a problem. If what your men say is true, then this could be very serious. First that damn girl's attack, then our gem being stolen, and now this? No doubt maybe this be a very serious problem to our family." Lorenzo said seriously as the man paused for a moment to think.
"Listen, and listen real good. If anyone finds that guy, try to take him down or try to talk to that guy, but most of all I want you to be very careful. If what Lawrence and Riccardo are saying is true about that fireball or the vines, then I think we may be facing the biggest problem we could have had." Lorenzo said seriously making everyone pay attention.
"Sir, wouldn't it be better if I took care of this situation?" Dahlia asked seriously but she only received a denial from Lorenzo.
"Dahlia. I appreciate you wanting to help, but if my son's bullies couldn't hurt that guy. Then I'm afraid if you stand up to him you'll only end up losing. Besides, I need you with me in case that brat comes back after what happened the last time." Lorenzo said making Dahlia nod but then they heard a laugh.
"Don't worry, Mr. Lorenzo. I can take care of that idiot myself, after all. Vice-Versa is always ready to fight." The other girl from the office said as huge hands cracked her knuckles.
"Cerebella, I appreciate you wanting to help. But like Dahlia you'd better wait until the time comes, too. If that guy becomes extremely dangerous then I'll need you to be with me at all times." Vitale said making the girl have a huge smile.
"Yes, Mr. Vitale. I will always be with you." Cerebella said with a huge smile but the man didn't smile back.
"Very well. Lawrence, Riccardo. Go rest, remember that you have to keep looking for that cat that took my gem, and if you two run into that guy again then don't hesitate to leave the place. I don't want casualties and much less trouble." Lorenzo said seriously making Riccardo and Lawrence nod their heads.
"Sir. I must ask, if this person proves not to be hostile. What will we do with him?" Dahlia asked curiously making Lorenzo stop to think for a bit.
"If that guy proves not to be hostile. Then I think we can possibly get him to join the Medici, I just hope those damned Renoirs don't form an alliance with him or that filthy Skullgirl. Otherwise it's all over for us as the most powerful mob in this city." Said the man making everyone serious.
Umbrella, Hungern and I were still up in the air. The girl had a huge smile on her face as she and the living umbrella seemed to be enjoying themselves on the trip.
"Okay, last question. If you can fly, then. How long does it take to get to another country?" Umbrella asked with a smile making me laugh a little.
"That depends. If I use my full potential in my air magic, then I can fly so fast that it would only take me an hour to reach another country." I said smiling making Umbrella's eyes shine.
"That's amazing, I hope you can take me to that town called New Salem one day." The girl said with a smile and Hungern seemed to share the same emotion.
"I promise you, Umbrella. When I find Bloodgood and get her back to Monster High, then I'll come visit you and together we'll go to New Salem." I said smiling making the girl celebrate for that statement.
"Great!! Did you hear that, Hungern? We're going to New Salem!!" The girl yelled with excitement as she hugged the living umbrella tightly but that caused Hungern to stick out a tongue due to forcing the girl making me laugh a little but then I noticed a castle in the distance, that didn't go unnoticed by Umbrella.
"That's my home. I know a place where you can drop me off, keep flying and come down when we're behind the castle." Umbrella said making me pay attention and follow the directions. When we got to the back I saw a group of soldiers marching which caught my attention.
"Who are those guys?" I asked curiously as I watched the soldiers train.
"They are the black herons. They are soldiers who take care of our family and the people of our kingdom." Umbrella said but that really surprised me.
"You're a princess!?." I quickly had to fly to the top of the school just as the soldiers seemed to be looking at where we were.
"Yes, I am a princess. My full name is Umbrella Renoir. My sister Parasoul is the princess and leader of the black herons, I on the other hand am the future ruler of the Canopy kingdom." Umbrella said as the three of us slowly started to walk away from the place.
"It's unbelievable but. What was a princess like you doing in the streets then, knowing that they are very dangerous, besides. I was wondering, how is it that you knew this kind of thing. It is impossible for a simple child to know everything you told me." I said surprised but Umbrella seemed unsure.
"First take me to my room, when we get there then I can tell you everything." Said the girl while she points to a window making me fly until I enter. I have to admit that the room was huge and filled with many toys.
"Very good. First, I know everything I told you since my sister won't stop talking about the Medici, not to mention that she seeks to destroy them at all costs. Y. I was in the streets since I was looking for answers about my mom. " Umbrella said sadly making me sit with her on her bed.
"What happened to your mother?" I asked with concern causing the entire room to go silent for a moment.
"First I have to tell you about something and this is a matter even more serious than the Medici." Umbrella said making me get serious.
"In this city. There is an object called the Skull Heart, it is a skull with the ability to fulfill a woman's wish but. The Skull Heart determines the purity of that wish, if the woman's wish turns out to be malicious or impure of heart, then that person will be turned into a Skullgirl with the sole mission of causing chaos and destruction but also, protecting the Skull Heart from anyone who tries to destroy it or make another wish."
"Years ago. Our kingdom as well as the other neighboring kingdoms were in a fierce war, my mother was very worried and feared for the safety of our kingdom and also ours. One night, the Skull Heart allowed her to grant her a wish, and without hesitation she called for the end of the war. But the war never ended."
"From what my sister told me. Our mother was turned into a Skullgirl due to impurity of desire, which caused all the kingdoms to put aside the war to fight my mother. All seemed lost until my father confronted my mother ." Umbrella started shedding tears making me freak out.
"My father decided to put an end to everything, he attacked my mother with everything he could, but my mother had no mercy on him. And they both died." Umbrella said with tears making me hug the girl while she didn't hesitate to hug me tightly and sob a little.
"I'm sorry Umbrella. I shouldn't have asked this kind of thing if I was so touchy." I said sadly as the girl slowly calmed down.
"Okay. But still, I know my sister is hiding something. When I asked her to tell me about mom but she seemed to be hiding something, I know because her way of telling the story wasn't entirely convincing to me." Umbrella said seriously making me think a bit.
"Maybe I don't know about your past. But if I have to think about it for a bit, he said that maybe your sister doesn't like to talk about that topic. It might be a bit difficult for her to talk about something so sensitive." I said while looking at the girl making Umbrella pout.
"I am old enough now to know the truth, I am no longer a child." Umbrella said with annoyance making me laugh a little. I cannot deny that the girl was very adorable.
"Just give your sister some time. Maybe she doesn't like hiding the truth from you either, but you'll have to be patient. Soon she'll tell you what happened to your mother, you just have to wait." I said with a smile making Umbrella relax.
"Okay. I guess I can wait until she tells me the truth, I just hope it's not for too long or I'll lose my mind." Umbrella said with a smile making me laugh a little.
"I have faith that one day she will tell you." I said smiling while before looking at the time and seeing that it was already one in the morning.
"I think you better rest, Umbrella." I said while looking at the girl but I noticed that she seemed a bit worried.
"But. Where are you going? You're new to the city and surely all the hotels or apartments must be closed until tomorrow." Umbrella said with concern making me stop for a moment to think.
"That's true. But don't worry, I can camp in a forest just for tonight and then I'll go find an apartment tomorrow." I said smiling but I saw that Umbrella got up and ran to a small closet.
"In this cold? You may be a hero and have magic, but that won't keep you from getting sick." Said the girl and suddenly I saw how Umbrella threw multiple stuffed animals, clothes and. A sword?. After that I saw that she came over with a somewhat old sleeping bag.
"This was from my sister. She and I used to go camping before but the last time we slept out she brought all the soldiers in our camp with her, even though I asked her to make it a simple night with no soldiers." Umbrella said with a pout before handing me the sleeping bag.
"Thank you very much Umbrella, I promise I'll return the favor when we meet again." I said smiling making the girl also show a smile.
"No problem, elemental wizard. Just be careful and I hope you keep your promise to take us to New Salem once it's all over." Umbrella said with a smile making me smile too.
"I promise when it's all over, I'll take you and Hungern to New Salem and. My name is Benjamin Escudero." I said with a smile causing the girl to be surprised.
"Wait. Do you realize you just revealed your secret identity!?" Umbrella yelled in surprise making me laugh a little embarrassed.
"I know, but. You told me a lot about yourself, and you also told me a huge secret of yours. I think it would be fair if I told you my secret too, I just trust you won't tell anyone." I said while looking at the girl making her smile.
"I promise you. Nobody will know about this, Hungern and I won't say a single word. Right, Hungern?" Umbrella asked with a smile making the living umbrella look happy.
"Very well. I'd better go before someone sees me, thank you very much for everything Umbrella." I said smiling but at that moment the girl took my hand before I walked to the window.
"Would you promise to come visit me? Hungern is my only friend and my sister hardly has any time to spend with me, do you think? Can you come play with us?" Umbrella asked with puppy dog eyes making my heart feel pierced because the girl was so adorable.
"Okay, Umbrella. I promise I'll come visit you, but remember. You can't tell anyone about my identity, much less my power, otherwise I think I'll have to stay in the shadows until I finish my mission." I said with some seriousness making the girl smile with happiness.
"I promise, I won't say a single word!! Did you hear that, Hungern!? Benja is coming to play with us!!" Umbrella yelled with a huge smile making me laugh a bit as the girl jumped around with the living umbrella before yawning.
"You better sleep, Umbrella." I said with a small smile as I laid the girl on the bed and left Hungern next to the bed.
"I met a hero today. A better one than that sanctimonious Annie, amazing." Umbrella said with a smile but the girl's eyes slowly began to close before she fell asleep from exhaustion. I simply showed a small smile before giving the girl a soft kiss on the forehead.
"Rest, Umbrella." I said smiling before looking out the window at the city in the distance. At that moment I looked at a small table with multiple crayons and pencils, took a piece of paper and a pencil before jotting something down and putting it in Umbrella's pocket.
"I hope I get lucky tomorrow." I said worried before I flew away but when I left, Umbrella opened one of her eyes with a smile before sitting up on the bed.
Umbrella then checked the pocket and found a phone number and a message that said "Call me only in case of emergencies." Making the girl smile before seeing Hungern stick his tongue out at her and show my mask.
"Damn, I forgot to give him his mask. Well, that'll be next time." Umbrella said with a carefree smile but the girl then heard Hungern speak.
"Tell Parasoul that Aunt Bloodgood is missing? No, I don't think so." Umbrella said with a smile but then she heard Hungern speak again, the living umbrella's eyes seemed to show concern.
"I know I should tell Parasoul but. Maybe I can convince Benja to let me help her rescue Aunt Bloodgood, that way my sister will see that I'm strong too and I'm not a child." The girl said with a determined smile only to hear the living umbrella speak as she prepared to sleep.
"Dangerous? Well, I know I've never been in a fight but I'll show Benja that I'm strong and he'll surely let me help him, I'll just have to keep this hidden from Parasoul. I don 't want to get Benja in trouble much less worry myself sister." Umbrella said as she turned off the light and Hungern spoke for the last time.
"Don't worry, Hungern. Everything will be fine, now it will be better to sleep. Tomorrow is another day." Umbrella said as she settled into bed to sleep while Hungern closed his eyes to rest, the living umbrella still seemed unsure but he was willing to help too.
I slowly started to stop flying when I reached a clear field in the middle of a forest. Using my magic, I was able to create a small fire before sitting down and looking at the starry sky.
"Did Bloodgood have a problem with the Medici? Or did she run into The Skull Heart. Shit, I just hope she's okay." I said with concern before laying down in the sleeping bag and then putting out the fire to avoid any fire.
"Don't worry friends, I promise I won't let you down." I said with concern before closing my eyes and falling sound asleep.
Now he was more than worried. Right now I'm wondering what happened to bloodgood. She will have had problems with the Medici?. By accident she came across The Skull Heart?. Although I am happy to have met Umbrella and that she has helped me get to know this city better, that did not take away my concern.
I just hoped everything would work out. I will not lose my faith in finding Bloodgood though. Now my only option was to rest, and see what awaited me tomorrow.
