Chapter 10: Going Home
Murphy strolled into Med all dressed up like a doctor, grinning as a young woman approached him. 'Hey, you must be Dr. Read, I'm Dr. Manning,' she said cheerfully. 'Well, that's me. Nice to meet you, Dr. Manning,' Murphy replied with a smile.
He had already slyly hacked into the system to have himself assigned to check on Erin. Taking the clipboard Manning handed him, he nodded, 'Alright, here are your patient records. Feel free to ask if you need help.'
'Thanks,' Murphy said, glancing at the list before heading off to do his rounds looking every bit the doctor. With a mischievous smile, he made his way to Erin's room, checking out her file.
'Looks like someone's getting discharged today. That sure makes things easier for me,' he whispered as he passed by a curly-haired male doctor who just gave him a nod.
Murphy gave a nod as he headed to Erin's room with a big grin on his face. He lightly knocked on the door to let her know he was there. 'Come in,' came Erin's raspy voice. Murphy couldn't help but lick his lips at the sound and entered the room.
Not seeing Erin there, he noticed the bathroom light on. 'I'm here for you to sign these discharge papers so you can leave,' he said, glancing around for something to put a tracker on. 'I'll be out in a few,' Erin replied from the bathroom.
Murphy grinned, 'Oh, take your time.' As he saw Erin's phone on the desk, he slyly swapped out the battery with a tracking one, putting it back quickly before she came out of the bathroom, trying to act casual.
《 Erin 》
Erin was feeling good and ready to leave to be in her own bed after her therapy session that lasted only three days. She was just pulling her hair up in a ponytail to stay cool.
The brunette heard the room door open, letting her know that a doctor was there to discharge her. She was a bit surprised by the unfamiliar yet familiar voice, but she brushed it off and told the person she'd be out in a few minutes.
Erin sighed as she finished, knowing Kelly would soon arrive to take her home, even though she suggested taking a taxi.
'Sorry for taking so long,' Erin said as she stepped out of the bathroom and saw her doctor standing there with a grin, making her bite her lip as she looked into his eyes.
Erin went over to the bed, trying not to look at the doctor who seemed new here. She assumed Maggie was busy with the discharge papers, but she couldn't shake the feeling that she knew him from somewhere.
'It's okay, Miss. Lindsay,' Murphy said as he saw Erin putting her brush in the bag and handed her the paperwork. 'Whenever you're ready, you can sign this and you're good to go,' he added, giving the brunette the papers.
Erin signed them and handed them back, 'Thank you, Miss. Lindsay,' Murphy said as he took the clipboard from her, scanning her up and down.
Erin felt uneasy as she caught Murphy's eyes wandering up and down her body, wishing Kelly would hurry up and arrive.
"Hey Erin, you ready to bounce?" Kelly asked as he strolled into the room, sensing the tension. Erin breathed out a sigh of relief as she glanced at Kelly and then over to Murphy, who shot her a grin.
"Yep, let's hit the road," Erin replied with a smile, grabbing Kelly's hand. She led the way out of the room while stealing a glance back to see Murphy observing her with a smirk.
"Later, little detective," Murphy mouthed, causing Erin to swallow nervously and avert her gaze as she let Kelly guide her to his mustang.
Kelly assisted Erin into the passenger seat, stashed her bags in the back, and settled into the driver's seat. "You good?" he asked once they were in the car, noticing the fear in Erin's eyes and her discomfort around the doctor.
"I'm alright, can we just head home or crash at your place?" Erin whispered, covering her mouth and gazing out the window to hold back tears.
Kelly looked over at Erin, wondering what had gotten her so rattled. 'Hungry? Wanna grab some food?' he asked, offering to pick something up before going back to his place.
'Yeah, maybe a little something,' Erin replied, realizing she was hungry.
As they drove, Kelly spotted a burger hut nearby his apartment. 'Sounds good,' he said, reaching out his hand for Erin to take. She slowly reached for it and smiled. 'Hey, if something's on your mind, I'm here,' he whispered.
Erin nodded, smiling, 'I know.' She squeezed his hand and placed it on her lap. 'And I'll tell you if something's bothering me,' she assured.
Erin laughed and smiled 'I'm just so relieved to be out of that place.' She joked that the hospital felt like prison, and Kelly chuckled, 'Oh c'mon, it wasn't that terrible.'
Erin teased him back, 'Easy for you to say, you weren't stuck in there for weeks.' Then Kelly suggested going to Molly's that night, mentioning that everyone was looking forward to seeing Erin. She happily agreed, 'Yep, let's hit up Molly's tonight.' And they both smiled.
