After the auditions, Toby and Jim began heading home and were riding through town on their bikes.
"Dude, that was amazing! You were amazing!" Toby gushed as they waited for the street to be cleared so they could ride down the road.
"I'm amazed at how amazing you were!" The rounded boy went on as the path cleared, where they started pedaling straight ahead.
"I can't believe that that just happened," Jim sighed in accomplishment as he and Toby slowly pedaled past some construction work on a shop front.
"And did you see how the 'chiquita' was looking at you? Your armor totally did you a favor!" Toby pointed out as he cockily pedaled without his hands on the handle bar.
'Jim's made more progress with Claire this afternoon than he had in the past few years. I'm proud of him,' the rounded boy thought to himself with a smirk.
"Uh, I'm still getting the hang of it," Jim admitted as they continued going past the construction.
"The multi-eyed guy said it reacts to your emotional state," Toby recalled before he lost his balance on the bike while riding over a wood plank. Jim fondly rolled his eyes at his best friend's folly as Toby swerved to the left.
"The armor turns on when you're in distress!" The rounded boy continued while he got his balance back. Deciding to not be cocky again, he put his hands back on the handle bars, and steered himself so he was riding next to Jim again.
"But I wasn't in distress back at school," Jim pointed out as they turned the corner. Only for them to be surprised to see a large dark troll roaring at them at the end of the street, causing them to stop in their tracks.
"But I am now!" Jim exclaimed as he and Toby stared at the troll in shock.
"Trollhunter! Merlin's creation! Gunmars bane!" Bular proclaimed as he started to support his weight on his fists, pawing at the asphalt as he prepared to attack them.
"I think he's talking to you…" Toby worriedly remarked as they looked at the troll in fear.
"That must be Bular," Jim said to Toby, just before Bular roared again and paced the area of shadow he was occupying. But when he tried to leave the shadows, his hand got burned by the fading sunlight.
"Look! Marinette was right. He's afraid of the sun!" The boy in blue exclaimed when he noticed Bular's hand burning. Unfortunately for them, when Jim turned left he noticed the ongoing sunset.
"Not for long!" Toby shouted in fear as they saw their window of safety rapidly closing.
"The amulet! Surrender it, and I will give you a speedy death!" Bular demanded from the growing shadows, worrying the two boys even more.
"Doesn't know how to negotiate, this guy!" Toby remarked before he and Jim sped away from Bular on their bikes as he lunged at them, following behind as they fled. They kept retreating until they turned a corner and managed to hide from Bular behind a parked truck before he began searching for them.
"Armor up, armor up. Armour up! Please! Now! FASTER!" Toby rapidly exclaimed as he panickingly encouraged Jim to speed up. He then glanced behind them, and saw Bular had just punched away a truck parked a distance away from the one they were behind after seeing they were not hiding behind it.
"Okay. 'For the glory of Merlin, daylight is mine to command!'" Jim quickly incanted. The amulet glowed in response, but nothing happened save for the glow fading away, much to the boy's panic.
"It's not working!" The boy in blue panicked. But their worrying was interrupted when they heard Bular getting closer to their hiding spot.
They quickly change spots from behind the truck and hide on the side of the truck facing the sidewalk. They just made the swap before Bular got to the truck and looked where they were previously hidden.
"For the glory of Merlin, daylight is mine to command. Seriously! It's mine to command! I'm commanding here!" Jim exclaimed as he tried to reason with the inanimate object in his hands while Toby knelt next to him. Suddenly, Bular walked away from looking at the backside of the vehicle and picked up the entire truck, drawing the boy's attention to him.
"Centuries of Trollhunters, and I will have killed two in almost as many days!" Bular proclaimed as he intimidated the two boys with his strength.
"HE'S GOOD AT MATH!" Toby shouted in fear, looking back at Jim to know what he wanted to do.
"GO! GO! GO!" Jim chanted before they cycled off as Bular threw the truck at them.
"Flying Truck!" The Trollhunter shouted and looked up to see the truck hurtling towards them as they fled from Bular.
"INCOMING!" Toby exclaimed as the truck was about to hit them, only to swerve to the right to avoid being hit.
When they are in the clear, they continue pedaling away. In response, Bular continued throwing more trucks at them, before chasing after them on foot.
"I'LL FLAY THE FLESH FROM YOUR BONES!" Bular roared as he ran alongside the two boys on another street next to them, separated by a row of trees.
"I LIKE MY BONES THE WAY THEY ARE THANKS!" Toby shouted back as him and Jim increased their pedaling, only for Bular to jump in front of their path. But a quick change in direction allowed them to go around him as he tried to punch and swipe at them. They continued biking away, with Bular following right behind.
"Head down Delancey!" Jim shouted before they changed their course and just narrowly avoided another flying vehicle as Bular continued to chase them. They skidded to a stop before Bular changed directions to continue following them. But as the boys continued down the street, Jim suddenly got an idea.
"Behind Stuart Electronics! "The boy in blue exclaimed to Toby, who was less than pleased with the suggestion.
"You know I can't fit there!" Toby argued, bringing up one flaw in Jim's plan as he continued pedaling.
"You can fit!" Jim encouraged as he pedeled ahead of Toby.
"I CAN'T!" Toby protested as he followed behind Jim towards the store in question.
"You've been on a diet, remember?!" Jim exclaimed before he easily slid down a narrow alley between two buildings. But when Toby followed behind, he got stuck as Bular caught up and skidded to a stop.
"I can't fit! I can't fit!" Toby chanted as he continued pedaling in an attempt to move, while Bular got to the alleyway entrance. He was delighted to see the poor boy was stuck. But as if a miracle had happened, Toby's bike started to move forward.
"I can fit! I can fit, I can fit! I'm fitting! YAY, diet!" Toby shouted in happiness as he slowly but surely got further down the alleyway. Bular reached in to try and grab him, but due to his large size he couldn't fit, and roared out of frustration.
(Time Skip)
Night had fallen, while Jim and Toby had managed to escape Bular. They reached the bridge to their neighborhood, and crossed it, entering the start of their cul-de-sac.
"Catch… my breath," Toby managed to pant out before they skid to a stop.
"Look at me. Look at me! We're not dead, right?" The rounded boy asked as he leaned on his handlebars, catching his breath.
"Master Jim!" A voice near the boys joyfully chuckled. They looked to see that it was Blinky and Aaarrrgghh!, who was using some foliage as a sort of disguise, as they walked towards them.
"Bular's trying to kill us! He chased us all over town!" Jim exclaimed as he and Toby walked over to the two trolls, hoping that they could help.
"And you're still alive! I knew you had potential, Master Jim!" Blinky cheered, strangely finding joy in Jim's words.
"You have a sweet voice, but you bring death with you!" Toby growled out before he slammed his hands onto his bike's handlebars, gripping them till his knuckles turned white. He was beyond angry at Blinky for getting them involved with this in the first place.
"You guys can fight him right?" Jim asked hopefully they could help. But his hopes were dashed when Aaarrrgghh! and Blinky both began chuckling.
"I could not hope to possess the skill to defeat Bular!" Blinky managed to say, knowing that he would never have such abilities, and was quite alright with that.
"What about him? He's big!" Jim remarked as he pointed at Aaarrrgghh!.
"Pacifist," Aaarrrgghh! answered, much to Jim and Toby's disbelief.
"Seriously?" Jim asked, not believing their rotten luck.
'Where's our Ladybug themed superhero of a sister when we need her?' the Trollhunter wondered to himself.
"Man, such a waste of a hulking brute," Toby sighed as he walked over to stand next to Aaarrrgghh!.
"Thank you," Aaarrrgghh! thanked, appreciating the compliment.
"This is why there is a Trollhunter, Master Jim. Aaarrrgghh! renounced the violent path ages ago!" Blinky explained, revealing why Aaarrrgghh! could not be of help for the fight. But before anyone else could say or do anything, Bular suddenly appeared, sliding on the ground as he did so, snarling at them.
"Follow me! We'll be safe in Heartstone Trollmarket!" Blinky exclaimed.
As he spoke, Aaarrrgghh!, and the boys on their bikes followed behind him as Bular started chasing them. But as they made their escape, they passed by Eli's house, alerting the boy with their shouting, and causing him to look through his window as they passed by.
"Yes! I knew it!" Eli shouted in happiness as he jumped off of his bed and pressed his face into the glass of the window to get a better look at the fleaing trolls.
When the fleeing group was farther away, Bular knocked down one of the power lines, causing a domino effect that caused Toby to find a power line pole in his path.
"Oh no!" Toby exclaimed when he saw the unexpected obstacle, and was unable to avoid it as he went right into it. He was then thrown off his bike, and sent flying through the air.
Thankfully, Aaarrrgghh! managed to catch him before he hit the ground and Toby grabbed hold of the fur on his back. The group continues to escape, while Bular is temporarily slowed down, catching his leg on Toby's bike, only to speed up as they all head down the forest path to the canal.
"Master Jim! Don your armor!" Blinky shouted as he ran ahead of the group. Jim was riding beside him, and Aaarrrgghh! ran behind with Toby on his back, while Bular followed close behind.
"I've been trying! The amulet won't listen to me!" Jim exclaimed as he pedaled. He definitely would have done so already if he could.
"Did you speak the incantation?" Blinky asked as they continued towards the canal.
"I've been incanting the crap out of it and it's not working!" Jim shouted, as he continued to pedal harder, and looked over at Blinky. He trusted himself not to crash, due to taking the path so many times that he knew it like the back of his hand.
"Just focus and incant, dude!" Toby called out as he held onto Aaarrrgghh!'s fur to keep himself from falling off.
They reached the dried up canal, with Jim skidding to a stop at the edge, allowing Toby, Blinky and Aaarrrgghh! to go down the slope, and reach the bottom. Jim then got the amulet out of his bag just as Bular cleared the treeline and barreled towards him.
"Uh, 'For the glory of Merlin daylight is mine to command!' " Jim quickly enchanted in a panic, holding the amulet close to his face. But nothing happened as Bular got closer.
" 'For the glory of Merlin daylight is mine to command!' "The Trollhunter repeated more calmly this time, as Bular got even closer. Once more nothing happened.
" 'For the glory of Merlin daylight is mine to command!' " Jim chanteid one last time, closing his eyes as Bular was just a foot away from him, and punched him in the chest.
But a second before the troll did so, the 'third times the charm' saying rang true as the amulet finally worked and equipped Jim with the armor, protecting Jim from the devastating blow. Though it did not save him from flying through the air from the impact.
As he sailed through the air, the armor materialized on Jim's body, before he landed on the bottom of the canal, skidding to a stop. Once he finally stopped skidding, he summoned his sword, at first having a little difficulty lifting it, due to getting his bearings after the punch he just took, but he managed to do so. Enraged, Bular roared at Jim from the top edge of the canal.
"Uh... Nope," Jim exclaimed when he saw how bloodthirsty Bular looked at the moment and tried to run. He hoped to reach the others, but unfortunately for him, Bular followed behind and blocked his path.
"Use your sword Master Jim!" Blinky suggested, hoping to offer some help.
"I'll drink your blood out of a goblet, made of your skull!" Bular shouted as spit flew out of his mouth, clenching his fist to further emphasize his threat.
"Cut him like a meatloaf, Jim!" Toby exclaimed, offering an analogy the boy could work with. It helped tremendously as Jim held his sword to defend himself as Bular ran toward him.
But before Bular could land a hit, Jim striked Bular with his sword, only for the troll to block it with his arm and push the boy away from him. Just as Jim skidded to a stop, Bular roared at Jim and punched the ground, ready to attack. Blinky took the opportunity to plan the group's escape.
"We must work quickly! Open the portal," Blinky said, as Aaarrrgghh! went to the wall under the bridge. He then opened his side pouch, and pulled out an orange crystal with a handle from it.
"The horngazel!" The six eyed troll exclaimed before he tossed it to Aaarrrgghh!. The large troll then used the crystal to draw on the wall, creating a portal after punching the space in the outline he drew. Toby was left in amazement as the wall opened up in chunks of stone as if it was nothing.
"Master Jim! Master Jim, come on!" Blinky called while Toby and Aaarrrgghh! walked toward the portal, only to stop to wait for the armored boy.
"I'm a little busy here!" Jim shouted back as he and Bular circled each other. The boy spun his sword in his hand just before the dark troll pulled out his own two swords.
"You are not fit to wield the amulet! I'll tear the armor off you, along with your skin!" Bular growled before he swung his right hand sword at Jim, only for him to dodge it.
He then tried to hit Bular with his own sword, but it got stuck in his arm instead. Bular roared and lifted his arm up into the air with Jim in tow, roaring at him before knocking the boy's sword out of his hand. But in doing so, Jim managed to let go before he did so, and was now running to the doorway in the stone wall.
"Come on, come on! Let's go Jim!" Toby called as Jim ran toward the door. But before he could get through the doorway, it started to close.
"Oh, no!" The rounded boy shouted as the portal closed before Jim could go through, leaving him to press his hands against the wall in shock. And if things couldn't get worse, the amulet deactivated.
"Oh no," Jim exclaimed as he looked at his now un-armoured self, just as the amulet fell to the ground. He turned to see Bular right behind him as he threw his swords at Jim. Thankfully he missed, but the swords now cornered the boy. Before Bular could get any closer or attack, the portal quickly reopened and Aaarrrgghh!'s hand pulled Jim in, just as Bular reached the wall, only to see his target was already safe behind the wall. Enraged, he roared and slammed his fists into the wall.
Meanwhile on the other side, Aaarrrgghh! set the cowering Jim back onto his feet next to an equally fearful Toby as they hear Bular's pounding from outside.
"He nearly- We nearly- He- Almost…" Jim panted out, not believing they had just survived that.
"Almost what? Speak, Master Jim," Blinky prompted, not quite understanding Jim's words.
"HE ALMOST KILLED US!" Jim shouted at Blinky, not understanding how the six eyed troll could not see that was the reason why they were freaking out.
" 'Almost!' A very important word! A life of almost is a life of never," Blinky remarked as he walked deeper into the cavern they were in, leaving a confused Jim and Toby at the entrance.
"Why'd the armor suddenly shut off?" Jim asked as he and Toby walked toward Blinky and Aaarrrgghh!, wondering why the so-called means to protect himself had just decided to stop working.
"Master Jim, you are the first human to possess an amulet crafted for trolls. It's to be expected that its behavior will be…unexpected," Blinky explained as he walked to another part of the cavern. He then stopped when he reached a spiral staircase of glowing blue crystals, making them light up and lead down deeper into the cavern.
"This way masters, this way," The six eyed troll said as he gestured to the path down.
"Woah!" Toby exclaimed as he, Jim and Aaarrrgghh! came to the stairs and followed Blinky down.
"Are you sure we're safe here?" The rounded boy asked as they all traveled deeper into the cavern.
"Indeed. The incantation forbids entry to Heartstone Trollmarket by Gumm-Gumms, such as Bular, for they are the most fearsome of Trolls," Blinky reassured as he continued to lead the group down.
"Gumm-Gumms are the evil trolls, right?" Jim asked as they were nearing the end of the stairs, hoping to confirm another thing Marinette had told him.
"Scary ones," Aaarrrgghh! answered as they reached the bottom.
"Okay, wait, wait. So Bular can't get in here, right? Into Heartstone Trollmarket?" Jim asked as he increased his pace to end up in front of Blinky, hoping that they were safe from the dark troll that was just attacking them.
"No Master Jim," Blinky reassured before he faced Jim and Toby to look at the center of the most incredible city they had ever seen.
"Woah/Wow!" Jim and Toby exclaimed as they walked away from the stairs, and toward the edge of the cavern to get a better look at the beautiful scene.
"This is the world you are bound to protect! This is Heartstone Trollmarket!" Blinky exclaimed in pride, showing the two boys his, Aaarrrgghh!'s and the troll's home underneath Arcadia.
