Evolution of the Daleks
"These…humans will become like me." said Dalek Sec. The Doctor and I slipped behind some machinery, "Prepare them for hybridization."
I watched as the pig men closed in on Mom, Martha, Frank and the others. "Leave me alone!" said Martha.
"Don't you dare!" said Mom.
Just then, I heard the song, 'Happy Days are Hear Again' I turned and saw my uncle with a radio, "Wait for it…" he whispered.
"What is that sound?" asked Dalek Sec.
Then we stepped out, "That would be us." said my uncle as he set the radio down and turned it off.
"Hello." I said with a wave.
"Surprise."
"Boo."
"Et cetera."
"Doctor," said Dalek Sec, "Teddy."
"The enemies of the Daleks," said the first Dalek
"Exterminate," said the second Dalek
"Wait." said Dalek Sec.
"Well, then. A new form of Dalek," said my uncle as we stepped forward, "Fascinating and very clever."
"The Cult of Skaro escaped your slaughter."
"How did you end up in 1930?" I asked.
"Emergency Temporal Shift."
The Doctor scoffed, "Oh, that must have roasted up your power cells, yeah?" he walked away and looked around the lab, "Time was, four Daleks could have conquered the world but instead your skulking away, hidden in the dark, experimenting. All of which results in you."
"I am Dalek in human form."
"What does it feel like? You can talk to me, Dalek Sec. It is Dalek Sec, isn't it? That's your name? You've got a name and a mind of your own. Tell me what you're thinking right now."
"I…feel…humanity."
"Good. That's good."
"I…feel…everything we wanted from mankind, which is ambition, hatred, aggression and war. Such…a genius for war."
"No, that's not what humanity means." I said.
"I think it does. At heart, this species is so very…Dalek."
"All right, so what have you achieved then? With this Final Experiment? Nothing! Because I can show you what you're missing with this…" I walked over to the radio my uncle had, "Simple little radio."
"What is the purpose of that device?" asked the second Dalek.
"It plays music. With music, you can dance to it, sing with it, fall in love to it. Unless you're a Dalek of course. Then it's just noise." I pointed my sonic screwdriver at the radio and a high pitch wail came out if it. Dalek Sec held his head in pain while the other Daleks acted erratically.
The Doctor turned to the prisoners, "Run!"
The Doctor and I followed them out of the lab as we left we could hear the Daleks say, "Protect the hybrid! Protect. Protect. Protect."
Mom and Martha lead the group through the sewers but wen they stoped at a junction, to try to figure out which way to go The Doctor and I rushed past them. "Come on! Move, move, move, move, move!" shouted my uncle.
We continued running and saw Tallulah, "Come on, Tallulah!" I said as we ran past, "Run!"
"What's happened to Lazlo?" asked Tallulah.
We didn't get a chance to answer her because we found a ladder. The Doctor went up and opened the lid then he came back down, "C'mon! Everyone up!" He said as people started to climbed ladder.
Once we got everyone back to Hooverville, we were all gathered around a fire. Martha. Mom, and Tallulah were sitting on crates. While, The Doctor and I told Solomon about what happened, "These Daleks, they sound like the stuff of nightmares. And they wanna breed?" he asked.
"They're splicing themselves into human bodies." I said, "If we're right, they've got a farm of breeding stock right here in Hooverville. We've got to get everyone out."
"Hooverville's the lowest place a man can fall. There's nowhere else to go."
"I'm sorry, Solomon. You've got to scatter. Go anywhere. Down to the railroads, travel across state, just get out of New York."
"There's got to be a way to reason with these things."
"Not a chance," said Mom.
"You ain't seen 'em, boss," said Frank.
"Daleks are bad enough at anytime, but right now they're vulnerable and that makes them more dangerous than ever," said The Doctor.
Just then we heard a man shouting out, "They're coming! They're coming!" and blowing a whistle.
"A sentry. Must have seen something," said Solomon.
"They're here! I seen 'em! Monsters! They're monsters!" said the sentry when he reached us.
"It's started," said The Doctor.
"We're under attack! Everyone to arms!" said Solomon
Then, the men of Hooverville started passing out the guns and other weapons they had collected. "I'm ready, boss, but al o' you! Find a weapon! Use anything!" said Frank.
Some of the people started to run off. Solomon saw them and called out, "Come back! We gotta stick together! It's not safe out there! Come back!"
Then an army of pig men invaded Hooverville, attacking the people who tried to escape and forced them back.
"We need to get out of the park." said Martha.
"We can't!" I said, "They're on all sides. They're driving people back towards us."
"We're trapped.," said Tallulah.
"Then we stand together," said Solomon, "Gather 'round. Everybody come to me. You there, Jethro, Harry, Seamus, stay together." The pig men forced us into a tight circle. "They can't take all of us." Then, the men started shooting at them.
"If we can just hold them off till daylight," said Mom, "Maybe we'll have a chance."
"Oh, Amy," said my uncle as he looked up, "they're just the foot soldiers."
We all looked up and saw a Dalek flying above us, "Oh, my God…" said Martha.
"What in this world—" said Solomon.
"It's the devil!" shouted the Sentry, "A devil in the sky. God save us all. It's damnation."
"Oh yeah? We'll see about that!" said Frank. He shot at the Dalek but of course it didn't do any damage.
The Doctor pushed his rifle down, "That's not gonna work."
"There's more than one of them." said Martha. Then, we saw another Dalek fly in. Without warning the Daleks opened fire on the camp. I held tightly onto my Mom, closing my eyes. I was having flashbacks to the war. I wanted to run. It had been almost 20 years but I could still see the images of my friends dead on the ground, killed before they had the chance to regenerate.
"The humans will surrender," said the first Dalek.
"Leave them alone!" shouted The Doctor, "They've done nothing to you!"
"We have located the Doctor!" said the second Dalek.
Solomon stepped forward and The Doctor grabbed his arm, "No, Solomon. Stay back."
Solomon ignored him, "I'm told that I'm addressin' the Daleks, is that right? From what I hear, you're outcasts, too."
I let go of my mom and I stepped forward, "Solomon, don't."
"Teddy, this is my township, you will respect my authority," he softly pushed the Doctor back, "Just let me try." Solomon stepped forward. I stepped back to my mom. "Daleks…ain't we all the same? Underneath, ain't we all kin?" then he set his rifle on the ground, "'Cause, see, I've just discovered this past day God's universe is a thousand times the size I thought it was. And that scares me. Oh, yeah. Terrifies me. Right down to the bone. But it's got to give me hope…. Hope that maybe together we can make a better tomorrow. So I…I beg you now if you have any compassion in your hearts then you'll meet with us and stop this fight. Well…what do you say?"
"Exterminate!" said the second Dalek. He then fired at Solomon, killing him instantly. The residents of Hooverville screamed in horror
"Oh, no!" shouted Frank as he rushed to Solomon's side, "No! Solomon"
"They killed him," said Mom in a stunned tone, "They just shot him on the spot."
My uncle and I had enough. We looked at each other. 'We do this together…' he said telepathically.
I thought for a moment and nodded. Then, he took my hand and screamed, "DALEKS!" He screamed and moved toward them, "All right, so it's our turn! Then kill us! Kill us if it'll stop you attacking these people!"
"No!" said Mom as she tried to step forward but Frank held her back.
"I will be the destroyer of our greatest enemies." said the first Dalek.
"Then do it! Do it! Just do it!" I shouted, "Do it!"
"Extermin…" Said the Dalek. Then it didn't fire, "I do not understand. It is the Doctor and Teddy…" It seemed like the Dalek was talking to Dalek Sec, "The urge to kill is too strong… I…obey."
"What's going on?" asked the Doctor.
"You will follow," said the Dalek.
"No! You can't go!" said Mom, as she and Martha rushed over to us.
"We've got to go," I said, "The Daleks just changed their minds. Daleks never change their minds."
"But what about us?" asked Martha.
The Doctor and I looked at the people of Hooverville, then we turned back to the Dalek. "On One condition!" I said, "If we come with you, you spare the lives of everyone here! Do you hear me?"
"The humans will be spared, Teddy… Doctor… follow."
"Then we are coming with you," said Mom, as she Martha stepped forward.
"No," the Doctor, "Stay here. Do what you do best. People are hurt. You two can help them. Let us go."
I gave Mom a hug and whispered in her ear, "Don't worry… We'll be back…"
"You better be…" she said.
We started to follow the Daleks. But then the Doctor paused and looked back. I stopped and watched as he walked back to her and said, "Oh, and can I just say, thank you very much." He gripped her hand with both of his and then he walked back to me and started to follow the Daleks.
'What was that all about?' I asked telepathically.
'I gave her the psychic paper,' he replied, 'If she's a smart as I think she is she'll use it to get herself and your mom up to The Empire State Building.'
The moment we arrived in the Dalek Lab, my uncle started in on Dalek Sec, "Those people were defenseless! You only wanted me and Teddy, but no, that wasn't enough for you! You had to start killing 'cause that's the only thing a Dalek's good for!"
"The deaths…were wrong." said Dalek Sec.
My jaw dropped. I never thought I would hear anything called a Dalek say that, "What did you say?"
"That man, their leader Solomon, he showed courage."
"And that's good?"
"That's excellent."
"Is it me or are you just becoming a little bit more human?" asked The Doctor.
"You and Teddy are the last of your kind and now I am the first of mine." said Dalek Sec.
"What do you want us for?"
"We tried everything to survive when we found ourselves stranded in this ignorant age. First we tried growing new Dalek embryos but their flesh was too weak."
"Yeah, we found one of your experiments. Just left to die out there in the dark."
"It forced us to conclude what is the greatest resource of this planet—its people." he flipped a giant switch on the wall and the ceiling above us lit up to show hundreds of human bodies lying on platforms suspended over our heads. He flipped another switch and one of the bodies was lowered. It was shrouded. "We stole them. We stole human beings for our purpose. Look…inside." My uncle pulled back the shroud to reveal a man, "This…is the extent of the Final Experiment."
"Is he dead?" I asked.
"Near death with his mind wiped ready to be filled with new ideas."
"Dalek ideas." said The Doctor.
"The Human-Dalek race."
"How many have you taken?" I asked.
"We have caverns beyond this storing more than a thousand."
"Is there any way to restore them? Make them human again?" asked my uncle.
"Everything they were has been lost."
"So they're like shells. You've got empty human beings ready to be converted. That's going to take a hell of a lot of power."
"This planet hasn't even split the atom yet. How are you gonna do it?" I asked.
"Open the conductor plan."
Dalek Sec showed us computer graphic of The Empire State Building. "Yeah, yeah, yeah. The Empire State Building." said The Doctor, "We're right underneath that. I worked that out already, thanks. But what, you hijacked the whole building?"
"We needed an energy conductor." said Dalek Sec.
"What for?" I asked.
"I…am the genetic template." He showed us an example of Dalek DNA and human DNA, "My altered DNA was to be administered to each human body. A strong enough blast of gamma radiation can splice the Dalek and human genetic codes and wake each body from its sleep." The Dalek DNA and human DNA recombined to form the a new hybrid strand.
"Gamma radiation?" asked The Doctor, "What are-" then he showed us a diagram of the Earth and the sun, "Oh, the sun. You're using the sun." said The Doctor.
"Soon…the greatest solar flare for a thousand years will hit the Earth. Gamma radiation will be drawn to the energy conductor and when it strikes—"
"The army wakes. I still don't know what you need us for." I said.
"Your genius. Consider a pure Dalek; intelligent but emotionless."
"Removing the emotions makes you stronger. That's what your creator thought all those years ago." said The Doctor.
"He was wrong."
My jaw hit the floor. No Dalek would ever, EVER, say that Davros was wrong. Dalek Sec was changing. Changing for the better it seemed. "He was what? I asked.
"It makes us lesser than our enemies. We must return to the flesh. And also…the heart."
"You wouldn't be the supreme beings anymore." said The Doctor.
"And that is good."
"That is incorrect," said the first Dalek.
"Daleks are supreme," said the second.
"No, not anymore." replied Dalek Sec.
"But that is our purpose."
"Then our purpose is wrong! Where has our quest for supremacy led us? To this. Hiding in the sewers on a primitive world. Just four of us left. If we do not change now then we deserve extinction."
My hearts were pounding. The words that Dalek Sec were saying were encouraging. Who would have thought that a Dalek would give up the quest for Universal supremacy? "So you want to change everything that makes a Dalek a Dalek." I said.
"If…you can help me." He turned to the Doctor, "Your knowledge of genetic engineering is even greater than ours. The new race must be ready by the time the solar flare erupts."
"But you're the template. I thought they were getting a dose of you."
"I want to change the gene sequence."
"To make them even more human?" I asked.
"Humans are the great survivors. We need that ability." said Dalek Sec. I smiled at that statement. Humans were defiantly that. Humans were going to be around for years… Billions of years… maybe even Trillions of years…
"Hold on a minute," said My Uncle, " There's no way this lot are gonna let you do it."
"I am their leader."
My uncle turned to the Daleks, "Oh, and that's enough for you, is it?"
"Daleks must follow orders." said the second Dalek.
"Dalek Sec commands, we obey." said the first.
"If you don't help me…nothing will change," said Dalek Sec. Almost begging us to help.
"There's no room on Earth for another race of people," I said.
"You have your TARDIS. Take us across the stars. Find us a new home and allow the new Daleks to start again."
"When's that solar flare?" asked The Doctor.
"Eleven minutes."
The Doctor looked at me, "What do you think?"
I looked at Dalek Sec then back at my uncle, "I believe him… I don't know why… But, what he is say is true… Look at what humanity as done to him… Think if we add more humanity to the mix…"
"Right then. Better get to work." He said. We started looking over the equipment and readouts, "There's no point in chromosomal grafting. It's too erratic."
"You need to split the genome and force the Dalek-human sequence right into the cortex," I said.
"We need more chromatin solution." said Dalek Sek.
"The pig slaves have it," said the first Dalek.
The pig slave walked into the room carrying a large crate. I noticed that Lazlo was one of them. "These pig slaves, what happens to them in the grand plan?" I asked.
"Nothing," said Dalek Sec, "They're just simple beasts. Their lifespan is limited. None survive beyond a few weeks. Power up the engine feeds."
The Doctor and I walked over to Lazlo, "Lazlo, I can't undo what they've done to you, but they won't do it to anyone else." said my uncle.
"Do you trust him?" asked Lazlo.
"I know that one man can change the course of history," I said, "Right idea in the right place at the right time is all it takes. I've got to believe it's possible."
"The line feeds are ready," said the first Dalek.
The Doctor rushed up to a bunch of tubes and extracted some of the solution with a syringe, "Then it's all systems go."
"The solar flare is imminent," said Dalek Sec, "The radiation…will reach Earth in a matter of minutes."
"We'll be ready for it," I said as my uncle inserted the syringe into one of the main feeding tubes and injected the solution.
"That compound will allow the gene bonds to reconfigure in a brand new pattern. Power up!" said the Doctor. The one of the pig slaves turned on a power switch Lazlo fliped a switch on as well.
"Start…the line feeds." said Dalek Sec. One of the Daleks started the machinery and we watched the solution start moving through the tubes
"There goes the gene solution." said my uncle.
"The life blood." said Dalek Sec.
The solution starts moving through the tubes up to the bodies over our heads. Then, an alarm sounded and red warning lights flashed, "What's that?" I asked
"What's happening? Is there a malfunction? Answer me!"
"No, no, no. The gene feed! They're overriding the gene feed!" shouted the Doctor as we ran over to the control to try to fix the problem.
"Impossible. They cannot disobey orders." said Dalek Sec.
"The Doctor and Teddy will step away from the controls," said the second Dalek
We did as we were told. "Stop! You will not fire."
"They are enemies of the Daleks," said the first Dalek.
"And so are you." said the second Dalek, as it pointed it's weapon at us.
"I am your commander. I am Dalek Sec."
"You have lost your authority," said the third Dalek.
"You are no longer a Dalek," said the second.
"What have you done with the gene feed?" asked The Doctor.
"The new bodies will be 100% Dalek," said the third Dalek.
"No. You can't do this!" shouted Dalek Sec.
"Pig slaves, restrain Dalek Sec, Teddy and the Doctor." Two pig slaves grabbed Dalek Sec. While Lazlo, grabbed my uncle and me.
"Release me. I created you. I am your master," commanded Dalek Sec.
But the other Daleks ignored him, "Solar flare approaching," said the second Dalek.
"Prepare to intercept," said the third, as they turned toward the machinery.
Just then the elevator bell dinged, "There's the elevator…" I said.
"After you." said the Doctor.
The three of us ran past the other pig men and made a run for the elevator, "The Doctor is escaping! Stop him! Stop him!" shouted the second Dalek.
But it was too late for them, because the door were all ready closing. We started on the way up to the top floor. "We've only got minutes before the gamma radiation reaches the Earth. We need to get to the top of the building." said the Doctor, "Lazlo, what's wrong?" I turned and saw Lazlo leaning against the side, panting heavily.
I took out my sonic, knelt next to him and started to scan him, "Out of breath," said Lazlo, "It's nothing. We've escaped them, Doctor. That's all that matters." The Doctor looked at me and I shook my head, from the readings I was getting Lazlo wasn't going to last much longer. Maybe a few hours at most. The elevator doors opened and we saw Martha, Mom, Fran and Tallulah all there. "Doctor!" called Martha.
"Teddy!" called Mom.
"First floor, perfumery," said The Doctor.
"I never thought I'd see you again." said Tallulah as she rushed over to Lazlo.
He met her halfway and they hugged, "No stopping me." he said.
Mom came over to me, "Oh Teddy…" and I hugged her, "Thank god your all right. I was so worried."
I smiled at her, "Me too…"
Martha lead The Doctor over to some blueprints of the building, "We worked it out. We know what they've done. There's Dalekanium on the mast. And it's good to see you too, by the way."
"Oh, come here," said The Doctor as he gave her a big hug and twirled her around. He set her back down as the elevator bell dinged and the doors close. He ran to try and stop it, but it was too late, "No, no, no. See, never waste time with a hug." I rolled my eyes at him as he took his sonic out and pointed it at the panel. "It's a deadlock seal. I can't stop it."
"Where's it going?" asked Mom.
"Right down to the Daleks," I said, "And they're not going to leave us alone up here. What's the time?"
"11:15," said Frank.
"Six minutes to go. I've got to remove the Dalekanium before the gamma radiation hits."
"Gammon radiation? What the heck is that?" asked Tallulah.
Martha lead us outside and we looked out on New York, "Wow… That's high. That's very- Blimey, that's high," said my uncle.
"And we've got to go even higher," I said, "That's the mast up there, look. There's three pieces of Dalekanium at the base. We've got to get them off."
"That's not 'we'. That's just me." said my uncle.
"I'm not going to stand here and watch you…"
"No, you're gonna have your hands full, anyway. I'm sorry, Teddy, but you've got to fight."
I looked down then I looked back up, "OK… Be careful…" and I hugged him.
"You too," he said as he hugged me back. Then he climbed up the scaffolding.
We heard the bell for the lift ding and then watched a it started to make its way up. Frank & Lazlo were each holding hammers, Martha & I were each holding piece of pipe, and Tallulah & Mom were each holding a wrench. "The lift's coming up." said Martha
"I shoulda brought that gun," said Frank.
"Martha, Amy, Tallulah, stay back. You too, Teddy. IF they send pig slaves, they're trained to kill," warned Lazlo.
"The Doctor needs me to fight," I said, "I'm not going anywhere!"
"They're savages. I should know. They're trained to slit your throat with their bare teeth." he said, then collapsed to the floor.
"Lazlo? What is it?" asked Tallulah.
Lazlo was struggling to stand, "No, it's nothing. I'm fine. Just leave me." He fell back to the floor and leaned against the wall.
Tallulah knelt beside him and put her hand to his forehead, "Oh, honey, you're burnin' up. What's wrong with you? Tell me."
"One man down and we ain't even started yet," said Frank.
"It's not looking good, Frank," said Martha.
"Nope."
"We're going to get slaughtered," said Mom
We heard the storm starting to kick up outside through the open end of the floor, "Wait a minute. Lightning." She ran to the other end of the room. Mom, Frank and I watched as Martha started dragging a metal rod in from outside. We looked at each other and realized what she wanted to do. Frank and I went to get more rods while Mom arranged some crates and furniture to keep the rods off the ground.
"Aw, you'll be all right, sweetheart," said Tallulah to Lazlo, sweetly, "Don't you worry." Then she looked over at us and yelled, "What the hell are you clowns doin'?"
"Even if the Doctor stops the Dalekanium, this place is still gonna get hit," said Martha, "Great big bolt of lightening, electricity all down this building. Connect this to the lift and they get zapped."
"Oh my God, that could work!"
"Then give us a hand," said Mom.
Once the last rod was in place, Frank went out side to check everything out, "Is that gonna work?" asked Tallulah.
"It's got to," said Martha.
"I've got it all piped up to the scaffolding outside," said Frank he came back in.
"Come here, Frank," I said as we all sat down around Lazlo, "and sit in the middle and don't touch anything metal." We huddled in the corner of the room and watched as the elevator doors opened and the pig men came out. Just as they did a bout of lightning struck the mast and passed through the rods and struck the Pigmen. Once the lighting was gone, Martha was the first to run over to them.
"You did it, Martha," said Tallulah.
"They used to be like Lazlo," said Martha, "They were people and I killed 'em."
"No, the Daleks killed them. Long ago," said Mom.
"What about The Doctor?" asked Frank.
My eyes went wide and I ran outside. When I got up to the mast I found my uncle lying on his back unconscious, "Doctor! Doctor!" I knelt beside him. "Look what we found halfway down." I took his sonic screwdriver out of my pocket and showed it to him, "You're getting careless."
"Oh my head," groaned my uncle.
I breathed a sigh of relief and smiled, "Hi…"
"Hi. You survived then."
"So did you. Just about…" I said with a smile, "I couldn't but notice….there's Dalekanium still attached." The Doctor shot up.
"The Daleks will have gone straight to a war footing," said the Doctor as we went back inside, "They'll be using the sewers, spreading their soldiers out underneath Manhattan."
"How do we stop them?" asked Lazlo.
"There's only one chance. I got in the way. That gamma strike went zapping though me first."
"But what does that mean?" asked Mom
"We need to draw fire. Before they can attack New York, Teddy and I need to face them. Think, think, think, think. We need some sort of space, somewhere safe, somewhere out of the way. Tallulah!"
"That's me. Three Ls and an H."
"The theatre! It's right above them, and, what, it's gone midnight? Can you get us inside?"
"Don't see why not." she said.
"Is there another lift?" I asked.
"We came up in the service elevator," said Martha.
"That'll do. Allons-y!"
The seven of us arrived at darkened theatre, we walked into the theater. The Doctor and I moved to the middle of the theater, "This should do it. Here we go." He said as we took out our sonic screwdrivers.
"There ain't nothin' more creepy than a theatre in the dark," said Tallulah, "Listen, Doctor, I know you got a thing for showtunes, but there's a time and place, hunh?" Lazlo fell into one of the chairs beside her, "Lazlo, what's wrong?" she asked as she sat next to him.
"Nothing. It's just so hot." he said.
"But…it's freezing in here. Doctor, what's happening to him?"
The Doctor and I checked our frequencies, "Not now, Tallulah. Sorry." he said.
"What are you doing?" asked Martha.
"If the Daleks are going to war, they'll wanna find their number one enemies," I said, "We're just telling them where we are." We held up our sonic screwdrivers and turn them on.
I looked at Mom, "You and Martha need to leave it's not safe for you here."
"No way." said Mom.
"I'm telling you to go," Said The Doctor, "Frank can take you back to Hooverville."
"And I'm telling you we're not going," said Martha
"You two are going, that's an order."
"Who are you to order us around?" asked Mom, "Some sort of Dalek?"
Before The Doctor or I could answer the doors to the theatre burst open and the human Daleks marched in and down the aisles on both sides of us trapping us in.
"Oh, my God! Well I guess that's them then, hunh?" said Tallulah.
"Humans…with Dalek DNA," said Martha.
Frank moved to attack but my uncle pulled him back, "It's all right. Just stay calm. Don't antagonize them."
"But what about the Dalek masters?" asked Lazlo, "Where are they?"
Then there was an explosion on stage and we all ducked behind the seats for cover. The Doctor and I peeked over the seats and as the smoke cleared, we saw two of the Daleks on stage with Dalek Sec chained and walking on all fours between them. The Doctor and I stood slowly with the other slowly standing as well.
"The Doctor and his niece will stand before the Daleks," said the first Dalek. The Doctor and I looked at each other and nodded. We stepped over a seat and walked forward on the seatbacks until we reached the front row. "You two will die. It is the beginning of a new age." said the Dalek.
"Planet Earth will become New Skaro," said the second Dalek.
"Oh, and what a world. With anything just the slightest bit different ground into the dirt." said my uncle.
I pointed at Dalek Sec, "That's Dalek Sec. Don't you remember? The cleverest Dalek ever and look what you've done to him."
"Is that your new empire?" asked my uncle, "Hmm? Is that the foundation for a whole new civilization?"
"My Daleks…" pleased Dalek Sec, "Just understand this. If you choose death and destruction, then death and destruction will choose you."
"Incorrect. We will always survive," said the first Dalek.
"Now we will destroy our greatest enemies, the Doctor," said the second Dalek, "and his niece."
"But they can help you," said Dalek Sec.
"The Doctor and Teddy must die," said the first Dalek,
"No, I beg you, don't," said Dalek Sec as he crawled in front of the first Dalek.
"Exterminate!" said the second Dalek. Dalek Sec stood just as the first Dalek fired, killing him instantly.
I was more disgusted by Daleks then ever before, "Your own leader." I said, "The only creature who might have led you out of the darkness and you destroyed him." I turned the human Daleks, "Do you see what they did? Huh? You see what a Dalek really is?"
"If we have to die, let's give the new boys a shot," said my uncle, "What do you think, eh? The Dalek-Humans. Their first blood. Go on, baptize them." We held our arms out to our sides and waited.
"Dalek-Humans, take aim," said the first Dalek.
The Dalek-Humans cocked their weapons and aim them at us.
"What are you waiting for? Give the command!" yelled the Doctor.
"Exterminate!" said the second Dalek. We took a deep breath but nothing happened, "Exterminate!" still nothing happened.
"Obey. Dalek-Humans will obey." said the first Dalek.
"They're not firing," said Mom.
"What did you do?" I asked my uncle.
"You will obey. Exterminate," said the second Dalek.
"Why?" asked one of the hybrids.
"Daleks do not question orders," said the first Dalek.
"But why?"
"You will stop this."
"But…why?"
"You must not question."
"But you are not our master. And we…we are not Daleks."
"No, you're not, and you never will be," said my uncle. Then he looked at the Daleks, "Sorry, I got in the way of the lightening strike. Time Lord DNA got all mixed up. Just that little bit of freedom."
"If they will not obey, then they must die," said the second Dalek, before it shot the Dalek-Human who questioned orders.
"GET DOWN!" shouted my uncle as we got down behind the seats as the Daleks and Dalek-Humans opened fire on each other. "Exterminate! Exterminate! Exterminate!" Shouted the Daleks then the second Dalek blew up. "Extermin—" called the first Dalek before it was destroyed.
The human Daleks stopped fireing. We all stood and The Doctor and I walked over to one of the hybrids, "It's all right. It's all right. It's all right. You did it. You're free." he said. Then all the hybrids gripped their heads and screamed in pain. "No!" said my uncle as we watched the human Daleks die in front of us. "They can't! They can't! They can't!"
Martha came up to us beside one of the bodies, "What happened? What was that?"
"They killed them," I said, "Rather than let them live. An entire species. Genocide."
"Only two of the Daleks have been destroyed," said Lazlo, "One of the Dalek masters must still be alive."
The Doctor and I stood and he said, "Oh, yes. In the whole universe, just one."
We went back to the Dalek lab and found the last Dalek connected to the machines. We walked in the room and just looked at the lone Dalek then my uncle asked, "Now what?"
"You will be exterminated," said the Dalek.
"Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Just think about it, Dalek- What was your name?"
"Dalek Caan."
"Dalek Caan," I said, as The Doctor and I walked forward, "Your entire species has been wiped out. And now the Cult of Skaro has been eradicated. Leaving only you."
"Right now you're facing the only two people in the universe who might show you some compassion," said my uncle, "'Cause we've just seen one genocide. I won't cause another."
"Caan…let us help you. What do you say?"
"Emergency Temporal Shift!" said Dalek Caan. The Doctor and I ran forward but it was too late, Dalek Caan was gone.
"Doctor!" shouted Martha as she and Tallulah help Lazlo come into the lab with Mom following behind him, "Doctor! He's sick."
Lazlo was breathing heavily. They lowered him to the floor, Tallulah cradled him on her lap. "It's okay," Said Mom, "You're all right."
We walked up and kelt down with them, "It's his heart," said Martah, "It's racing like mad. I've never seen anything like it."
"What is it, Doctor?" asked Tallulah, "What's the matter with him? He says he can't breathe? What is it?"
"It's time, sweetheart," said Lazlo.
"What do you mean 'time'? What are you talking about?"
"None of the slaves …survive for long. Most of them only live a few weeks. I was lucky. I held on 'cause I had you. But now…I'm dyin', Tallulah."
"No you're not. Not now, after all this. Doctor, can't you do somethin'?"
"Oh, Tallulah with three Ls and an H…just you watch me." My uncle stood and whipped off his coat. What do I need? Oh, I don't know. How about a great big genetic laboratory?"
I smiled, stood up, and looked around, "Oh look, we've got one right here!" then I turned and looked at the pig man laying on the floor, "Lazlo, just you hold on."
"There's been too many deaths today," said The Doctor as he ran about the lab, mixing up a solution, "Way too many people have died. Brand new creatures…"
"Wise old men," I said.
"Age-old enemies."
"And I'm telling you right now! We are not having one more death! Got that, Lazlo? Not one more death!"
"Tallulah, out of the way," said my uncle, as he took his stethoscope out of his pocket and put it on, "The Doctor is in."
The next morning, The Doctor, Martha, Tallulah, Mom, Lazlo and I were waiting by a park bench. Lazlo was bundled up in an overcoat and hat. The Doctor and I were able to save Lazlo's life but unfortunately we couldn't reverse the effects of what the Daleks did to him so he would remain a pig man for the rest of life. Frank walked over to us and said, "Well I talked to 'em and I told 'em what Solomon would've said and I reckon I shamed one or two of 'em."
"What did they say?" asked my uncle.
"They said yes." said Frank. Tallulah hugged Lazio and Frank continued, "They'll give you a home, Lazlo. I mean, uh, don't imagine people ain't gonna stare. I can't promise you'll be at peace but, in the end, that is what Hooverville is for, people who ain't got nowhere else."
"Thank you. I—I can't thank you enough," said Lazlo.
A short time later we were back on Liberty Island, looking out at the Manhattan skyline.
"Do you think it's going work out for those two?" asked Mom.
"I don't know," said my uncle, "Anywhere else in the universe, I might worry about them, but New York, that's what this city's good at. Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses, and maybe the odd pig-slave-Dalek-mutant-hybrid too."
Martha laughed, "The pig and the showgirl."
I laughed as well, "The pig and the showgirl."
"Just proves it, I suppose," said Mom, "There's someone for everyone."
"Maybe," said the Doctor. I could tell he was thinking about Rose as that moment. Then he turned and walked to the TARDIS. Mom, Martha, and I followed.
"Meant to say…sorry," said Martha.
"What for?" I asked.
"Just 'cause that Dalek got away. I know what that means to you two. Think you'll ever see it again?"
The Doctor unlocked the TARDIS and said, "Oh yes." Martha, Mom and I went inside, "One day," he said as he closed the door.
Later on, The Doctor and I were in the console room when my mom came in carrying her bags. "Mom… what's gong on?" I asked.
"You were right, Teddy… This life you and the Doctor lead… It's not for me… People died today… a lot of people… I saw I watched a brand new race be born and die in less than an hour. I'm not sure if I can handle seeing that again…"
I walked over to her and took her hand, "I can't force to stay… If you want to go home… We'll take you…"
"Yeah…" She said, "I miss your Dad and P.J. and Charlie and Toby… and Gabe…"
I smiled and started to set the coordinates for home.
We arrived in the basement for Mom she had been gone for five days for everyone else she was gone for only one day, I made sure we had the right date before we finished materialization. Mom disembarked, I gave her a hug and promised to stay in touch. Then, I closed the door and the Doctor and I were on our way to take Martha home…
