Turn Left & The Stolen Earth
It was a few weeks after we left The Library. We landed on the planet Shan Shen. A planet colonized by the Chinese in the 25th century. We were walking down a narrow, crowded alley with people selling all sorts of strange things. We stopped a stall and tried a wonderful drink. Donna went ahead of us while the Doctor talked with a stall owner about a strange looking fruit with long spikes. After we finished talking with stall owner we went to catch up with Donna.
As we were walking down the alley we heard a scream that sounded liked Donna's. We then reached a tent and heard Donna's voice saying, "What the hell is that?"
There was another voice that said, "You were so strong. What are you? What will you be?"
We walked into the main room of the tent we saw Donna and my uncle asked, "Everything all right?
Donna looked at us like she hadn't see us in years. She jumped up and gave us all a big hug, "Oh, God...!" she gasped with relief.
I started to laugh, "What was that for?
"I don't know!" Then she hugged us again.
We sat down around the table while The Doctor examined a large beetle and poked it with an incense stick. Donna tried to remember what happened. All she could tell us was she saw what would have happened if we never met her. We she tried to thing of something specific all she could say was, "I can't remember. It's slipping away. You know like when you try and think of a dream and it just sort of... Goes."
"It just got lucky, this thing," said my uncle, "It's one of the Trickster's Brigade. Changes a life in tiny little ways. Most times, the universe just compensates around it, but with you… Great big parallel world!"
Donna smiled , the said, "Hold on, you said parallel worlds are sealed off."
"They are," I said, "But you had one created around you. You know, it seems to be happening a lot to you."
"How do you mean?"
"Well, The Library and then this…"
"Just... goes with the job. I suppose."
The Doctor looked at her with a furrowed brow, "Sometimes I think there's way too much coincidence around you, Donna. We met you once. We met your grandfather. Then we met you again. In the whole wide universe, we met you for a second time."
"It's like something's binding us all together," I said.
"Don't be so daft. I'm nothing special." said Donna.
"Yes, you are, you're brilliant." said Annabelle
Donna smiled modestly and then it looked like she was remembering something, "She said that."
"Who did?"
"That woman." said Donna. She continued to try to remember but just couldn't, "I can't remember."
"Well, she never existed now," said my uncle.
"No, but she said... the stars... she said the stars are going out."
"Yeah, but that world's gone," I said.
"No, but she said it was all worlds. Every world," said Donna, "She said the darkness is coming, even here."
"Who was she?" asked Annabelle
"I don't know."
"What did she look like?" asked my uncle
"She was… Blonde." said Donna.
My eyes went big, "What was her name?" I asked.
"I don't know!"
"Donna, what was her name?" asked my uncle.
"But she told me... to warn you," said Donna, "She said... two words."
"What two words? What were they? What did she say?"
"Bad Wolf." My jaw dropped a little and my uncle's eyes got wide, "Well, what does it mean-?" asked Donna.
We jumped to our feet and ran out of the tent. Donna and Annabelle ran after us. Everywhere we looked there were posters, banners, flags, all reading one thing 'Bad Wolf' over and over again.
We ran to the TARDIS, the words to the instruction sign the door had been changed to 'Bad Wolf' The 'Police Public Call Box' sign over the door was changed to 'Bad Bad Wolf Wolf"
The Doctor threw open the doors to the TARDIS and the console room was flooded with a hellish red light and we heard the ominous sound of the Cloister Bell. Donna slammed the door shut behind us. "What is it? What's Bad Wolf?" asked Donna.
"It's the end of the Universe," said my uncle as he breathed heavily.
Us three Time Lords got to work and started to set the coordinates for Earth. We had to get back to Donna's proper time as soon as possible. We landed the TARDIS on the corner of a perfectly normal suburban street. We all rushed out and looked around, "It's fine... everything's fine." said The Doctor, as he continued to look around, "Nothing's wrong, it's all fine!"
I saw a milkman and called out, "Excuse me? What day is it?"
"Saturday," said the milkman
"Saturday! Good!" said The Doctor, "Good, I like Saturdays.
"So... I just met Rose Tyler?" asked Donna
"Yeah." said my uncle.
"But she's locked away in a parallel world."
"Exactly," said Annabelle, "But, if she can cross from her parallel world to your parallel world, then that means the walls of the universe are breaking down, which puts everything in danger."
"But how?" said my uncle as he ran back into the TARDIS, so we could start doing some scans to see what was going on with the universe that would allow Rose to jump from her world to Donna's.
As we worked Donna said, "The thing is, Doctor... no matter what's happening - and I'm sure it's bad, I get that. But... Rose is coming back. Isn't that good?"
We all thought for a moment and I smiled, "Yeah," said my uncle with a big smile
Donna and Annabelle smiled as well. Annabelle knew how much The Doctor loved Rose. But we were shaken out of our happiness when there was a loud bank and the TARDIS shuddered violently throwing all of us to the floor, "What the hell was that?" asked Donna.
"It came from outside!" said Annabelle
We got up and ran to the door, Annabelle opened the door but instead of the suburban street that should have been there all we could see was nothing but space and lumps of rock floating lazily around us, "We're in space... how did that happen? What did you do!?"
Us three Time Lords ran back to the console to look at the monitor. What we saw made absolutely no sense. "We haven't moved. We're fixed." said Annabelle.
I couldn't believe what I was seeing, "It can't have... No." I said.
We ran back to the door next to Donna and The Doctor said, "The TARDIS is still in the same place, but the Earth is gone. The entire planet... it's gone!"
We ran back to the console and started to see if we could find any trace of Earth. Donna moves around the console, and slowly asked, "But... if the Earth's been moved... they've lost the sun. What about my Mum? And Grandad? They're dead? Aren't they? Are they dead?"
I knew how Donna was feeling. All I could think about was my adopted family and Jack. I looked at her and said, "I don't know, Donna. I just don't know. I'm sorry. I don't know."
"That's my family. My whole world."
"There's no readings, nothing. Not a trace. Not even a whisper." said Annabelle. "That is fearsome technology."
"So, what do we do?" asked Donna.
"We've got to get help," I said.
"From where?" asked Donna.
"Donna... I'm taking you to the Shadow Proclamation." said The Doctor, "Hold tight." He pulled a lever and started the TARDIS we all held onto the console as we few to the headquarters of the Shadow Proclamation.
"So, go on then - what is the Shadow Proclamation, anyway?" asked Donna.
"Fancy name for 'police'," I said, "Outer space police."
"Here we go!" said The Doctor.
After we finished materializing inside the headquarters of the Shadow Proclamation. We cautiously walked out of the TARDIS and were greeted by a group of armed Judoon, who immediately point their guns at us We raise our hands in surrender.
"Sco po tro no flow jo ko fo to to," said the Judoon
|
"No bo ho so ko ro toe so," said The Doctor.
"Bo-ko-do-zo-go-bo-fo-po-jo!" I said.
The Judoon lowered their guns and Annabelle said, "Ma ho."
The Judoon took us to see the Shadow Architect, the head of the Shadow Proclamation.
"Time Lords are the stuff of legend," said the Shadow Architect, "They belong in the myths and whispers of the Higher Species. You cannot possibly exist."
"Yeah... more to the point, I've got a missing planet," said The Doctor.
"Then, you're not as wise as the stories would say."
"Tell me about it…" I thought.
Annabelle laughed in her head.
"The picture is far bigger than you imagine," said the Shadow Architect, "The whole universe is in outrage, Doctor - twenty-four worlds have been taken from the sky."
"How many?" I said.
"Which ones? Show us!" The Doctor, Annabelle and I ran to the computer and we put our glasses on.
"The locations range far and wide," said the Shadow Architect, "They all disappeared at the exact same moment, leaving no trace."
"Callufrax Minor, Jahoo…" said my uncle as he started reading off names.
"Shallacatop, Woman Wept, Clom - Clom's gone?!" I said, "Who'd want Clom?"
"All different sizes," said the Shadow Architect, "Some populated, some not, but all unconnected."
"What about Pyrovilia?" asked Donna.
"Who is the female?"
"Donna. I'm a Human Being. Maybe not the stuff of legend, but every bit as important as Time Lords, thank you." I smiled, and Donna continued, "Way back when we were in Pompeii, Lucius said Pyrovillia had gone missing."
"Pyrovillia is cold case. Not relevant." said one of the Judoon.
"How do you mean, 'cold case'?"
"The planet Pyrovilia cannot be part of this, it disappeared over two-thousand years ago," said the Shadow Architect.
"Yes, yes. Hang on. But there's the Adipose breeding planet too. Miss Foster said that was lost. But... that must've been a long time ago," said Donna.
"That's it! Donna, brilliant!" said Annabelle, "The planets have been taken out of time as well as space." she started typing in the computer, "Let's put this into 3D." Holograms of the missing planets appeared throughout the room. "Now, if we add Pyrovilia…" it appeared, "And Adipose 3..." It appeared.
The Doctor looked at the plants and said, "There's something missing. Where else, where else, where else, lost, lost, lost, lost...? OH! The Lost Moon of Poosh!"
Annabelle added the Lost Moon of Poosh and The Doctor walked amongst the planets and they rearrange themselves.
"What did you do?" asked the Shadow Architect.
"Nothing. The planets rearranged themselves into the optimum pattern," said Annabelle.
"Oh... look at that," said The Doctor, "Twenty-seven planets in perfect balance. Come on, that is gorgeous!"
"Oi! Don't get all spaceman, what does it mean?" asked Donna.
"All those worlds fit together like pieces of an engine. It's like a power house. But what for?"
"Who could design such a thing?" asked the Architect.
"Someone tried to move the Earth once before. A long time ago... Can't be…"
I was standing with The Doctor, Annabelle, and the Shadow Architect by the computer, as we tried to figure out how to find out where the planets were. Donna was sitting on some stairs nearby. The Doctor and I walked over to her and I said "Donna, come on, think. Earth. There must've been some sort of warning. Was there anything happening back in your day, like... electrical storms, freak weather, patterns in the sky?"
"Well, how should I know?" she replied, sounding not in the moon, "Um... no. I don't think so, no."
The Doctor sighed, "Oh, okay. Never mind."
"Although... there were the bees disappearing."
"The bees disappearing?" asked The Doctor sarcastically.
I smacked my uncle upside the head, "Be nice… she was trying to help…"
Then Annabelle called out "The BEES disappearing."
I thought about it and I looked at my uncle and I could tell he came to the same realization, "The bees disappearing!" we said as we ran back to the computer.
"How is that significant?" asked the Shadow Architect.
Donna came over to us, "On Earth, we have these insects. Some people said it was pollution or mobile phone signals."
"Or... they were going back home." I said.
"Back home where?"
"The planet Melissa Majoria."
"Are you saying bees are aliens?"
"Don't be so daft. Not all of them," said the Doctor, "But, if the migrant bees felt something, some sort of danger, and escaped... Tandocca!'
"The Tandocca Scale," said the Shadow Architect
"The Tandocca Scale is a series of wavelengths used as carrier signals by migrant bees," said Annabelle, "Infinitely small, no wonder we didn't see it. It's like looking for a speck of cinnamon in the Sahara. But look!" she pointed at the screen, "There it is! The Tandocca trail." on the screen was a trail of blue light, "The transmat that moved that planets was using the same wavelength! We can follow the path!"
Donna was already halfway to the TARDIS, "And find the Earth! Well, stop talking and do it!" she yelled.
"I am!" shouted The Doctor as he followed her.
Once we were inside the TARDIS we ran to the console and looked at the monitor, "We're a bit late. The signal's scattered, but it's a start!" I said. Annabelle and I started to get the TARDIS ready for departure while the Doctor ran to the door.
He got to the door and poked his head out, "I've got a blip! It's just a blip, but it's definitely a blip."
"Then according to the strictures of the Shadow Proclamation, I will have to seize your transport and your technology." We heard the Shadow Architect say.
"Oh, really?" he asked, a bit taken aback, "What for?"
"The planets were stolen with hostile intent. We are declaring war, Doctor! Right across the universe! And you will lead us into battle!"
"Right… Yes… Course I will. Just go and... get you a key."
He slowly slid back into the TARDIS and close the door. He threw his coat over one of the supports and ran to the console with a big smile on his face. He pulled a lever and we were on our way to find Earth.
We held onto the console for support when ally of the sudden it stopped dead, "It's stopped…" I said.
"What do you mean?" asked Donna, "Is that good or bad? Where are we?"
"The Medusa Cascade," said The Doctor, "I came here when I was just a kid. Ninety years old. It was the center of a rift in time and space."
"So... where are the twenty-seven planets?"
"Nowhere. The Tandocca Trail stops dead," I said, "End of the line."
"So, what do we do? Doctor? Teddy? Annabelle? What do we do?" asked Donna. None of said anything. We couldn't think of anything. Not one of us had a clue where Earth and the other 26 planets were. We just stood there and looked at the screen, in defeat. Donna pleaded with us, "Don't do this to me, " she shook here head in denial, "No, don't. Don't do this to me. Not now. Tell me what we're going to do!"
Still none of us said anything. I just sat down on the jump seat and looked at the rotor. I couldn't think of anything else but my family and Jack. I crossed my arms across my chest and looked down at my engagement ring. I could feel the tears forming in my eyes. "None of you ever give up!" shouted Donna, "Please!"
Martha's phone started to ring, "PHONE!" he yelled, rushing to it.
I jumped out of my seat as Donna, "Doctor, phone!"
The Doctor flipped the phone open and said, "Martha, is that you?! It's a signal…"
"Can we follow it?"
He pulled out his stethoscope, "Oh, just watch me." He said determinately. I smiled as I watched my uncle come back to normal. He placed the phone down in front of the monitor and pressed the stethoscope to it."Got it! Locking on!" He pulled a lever, and the TARDIS started to shudder so hard, it sent us all falling all over the place and sparks flew out of the console.
A moment later, whole console went up in flames as, the TARDIS continued to shake violently. I looked at the monitor and yelled "We're traveling through time! One second in the future! The phone call's pulling us through THREE! TWO! ONE!"
We held on tight as the fires died down and the TARDIS stopped shaking. We stared at the monitor, and beginning to smile as we realize we found it. "The twenty-seven planets!" said Donna, "And there's the Earth! But why couldn't we see it?"
"The entire Medusa Cascade has been put a second out of sync with the rest of the universe," I said, "The perfect hiding place, a tiny little pocket of time. But we found them!"
There was a whirring sound and the screen blurred out, "Oh, oh... what's that? Hold on, hold on…" said The Doctor as he turned some knobs
"It looks like some sort of... subwave network," said Annabelle.
Then the image cleared and on the screen appeared four different webcams, my family in Denver, Jack at Torchwood, Sarah Jane and some boy at her home, & Martha at her mother's home. Jack laughed in relief then angrily said, "Where the hell have you been?! Teddy, Doctor, it's the Daleks!"
"Oh Teddy," said Mom, "Thank God you're all OK…"
"It's the Daleks!" said Sarah Jane, "They're taking people to their spaceship!"
All I could do was smile as everyone talked over each other, 'But it's not just Dalek Caan!" said Martha.
The Doctor was beaming as he spoke "Sarah Jane! Who's that boy? There's Torchwood. Aren't they brilliant? Look at you all, you clever people!"
"That's Martha!" said Donna, "And who's…" she pointed at the screen with a mischievous look on her face, "... he?
I smiled, "That's my fiancé, Jack…"
"It's like... an outer-space Facebook!"
"Everyone except Rose…" said The Doctor.
Then the screen turned to static, "Ah…" said The Doctor.
"We've lost them!" said Donna.
"No!" I said as I turned some knobs, "There's another signal coming through, there's someone else out there."
The Doctor hit the top of the monitor, "Hello? Can you hear me? Rose?"
We watched the monitor when we heard a voice… I voice we shouldn't have been hearing, "Your voice is different, and yet, its arrogance is unchanged." Then on the screen Davros appeared, "Welcome... to my new Empire, Doctor. It is only fitting that you and your niece should bear witness to the resurrection and the triumph of Davros, Lord and Creator of the Dalek Race."
We were all frozen with fear, "Doctor? Teddy? Annabelle?" asked Donna.
"Have you nothing to say?"
"It's all right," she moved to comfort us, "We're... we're in the TARDIS. We're safe."
"But you were destroyed." said The Doctor softly, "In the very first year of the Time War, at the Gates of Elysiem. I saw your command ship flying into the jaws of the Nightmare Child. I tried to save you…"
"But it took one stronger than you. Dalek Caan himself," said Davros.
"I flew into the wild and fire. I danced and died a thousand times!" said Dalek Caan in an insane singsong voice.
"Emergency temporal shift took him back into the Time War itself."
"But that's impossible," said The Doctor angrily, "the entire War is time-locked."
"And yet, he succeeded," said Davros, "Oh, it cost him his mind, but imagine - a single, simple Dalek succeeded where Emperors and Time Lords have failed. A testament, don't you think, to my remarkable creations?"
"And you made a new race of Daleks."
"I gave myself to them. Quite literally. Each one grown from a cell of my own body. " He pulled his leather suit open to reveal a decaying mess of skin and bones. You could see his ribs and heart, "New Daleks. True Daleks. I have my children, Doctor. What do you and your niece have, now?
"After all this time... everything we saw, everything we lost... I have only one thing to say to you. BYE!" He pulled a lever, cutting him off and sending us to Earth… more specifically Denver.
The TARDIS materialized outside my family's home in Denver. When we stepped out of the TARDIS, I heard the sound of the front door opening. I turned and saw my mom run out of the house with my dad close behind her. She gave me and Annabelle a big hug, "I'm so glad you're okay," she said, "Were have you been?"
I smiled, "I could ask you the same thing…"
"It's like a ghost town," said Donna. I looked around the street in front of my house was full of abandoned cars. There were some overturned strollers and bicycles. There was trash scattered around and an unnatural silence.
"Sarah Jane said that they were taking the people. But what for?" asked The Doctor.
I turned to Donna, "Think, Donna. When you met Rose in that parallel world, what did she say?"
"Just... the darkness is coming."
"Anything else?" asked my uncle.
Donna thought for a moment. Then, I could tell by her look that something caught her eye behind us. The softly she replied, "Why don't you ask her yourself?"
I was a bit confused as I watched a small smile appear on Donna's face. The Doctor and I turned around and at the far end of the street was Rose with a big smile on he face. We just looked at each other for a moment, then Rose started to run to us. When she started to run we started to toward her, "Annabelle… Stay here…" I said to my daughter telepathically.
Because we were so focused on reaching Rose we didn't see a Dalek move out of the shadows until the last moment. "Exterminate!" exclaimed the Dalek.
The Doctor and I tried to turn around and take cover but it was too late. The Dalek got off two shots. One hit the Doctor… The other… hit me… It hit me across the chest but it was enough to knock me to the ground. I had never felt as much pain in my life as I did at that moment. As I laid there on the ground, I heard another louder shot and an explosion. I learned later that Jack had teleported in using his Vortex Manipulator and destroyed the Dalek with a gun of his own.
A few moments after the explosion, I felt someone cradle my head in their hands, I opened my eyes saw Jack. "Hey Teddy Bear…" he said with a smile, "Long time no see…"
I smiled up and him and said, "Yeah… Sorry about that…" it had been almost six months, his time, since I last saw him to introduce him to Annabelle. Then a wave of pain hit me and I started to convulse. "We need go get them into the TARDIS, quick." said Jack "Move!"
Jack and Dad helped me to my feet while Rose and Donna helped The Doctor. They got us into the TARDIS and laid us down on the grilling at the base of the console, as we twitched and moaned in pain. "Why are you leaving them there," asked Mom as she and Annabelle knelt by me, "We should take them to the Med Bay…"
"Just step back," said Jack, "Rose! Annabelle! Amy! Do as I say and get back! They are dying, and you know what happens next."
"What do you mean?" asked Mom as she stood up and switched her glances between me and Jack. It was at that moment that I realized that I never told my adopted family about regeneration… my next self was a dead woman…
"But you can't…" whispered Rose to my uncle, "not now, I came all this way."
"What do you mean? What happens next?" asked Mom
I lifted up my hand and watched as it started to glow with the familiar orange light of regeneration energy. I heard my uncle say, "It's starting." with a groan.
Jack and Donna pulled Rose and Annabelle way from The Doctor and I, respectively and took them to a safe distance.
"Here we go!" said Jack, " Good Luck Doctor… I love you Teddy…
I grabbed onto the console and struggled to get to my feet I looked at Jack and smiled, "I love you too…" I looked at Annabelle, "I love you, Sweetpea…"
She looked at me with tears in her eyes, "I love you, too, Mom…"
I then looked at my Mom and Dad… They looked confused, "Mom… Dad…" I said… "I'm sorry…"
"Will someone please tell us what is going on?" asked Dad.
Rose's voice was trembling, as she tried to explain to explained, what was going on, "When a Time Lord is dying, their… their bodies, it… repairs itself, it changes." Then she said with anguish in her voice, "But you can't."
I could feel the regeneration energy building in me, I looked over at my mom and dad. "Mom… Dad… Tell my little sister that I said, 'Good Luck Charlie…'" Then my vision was bathed in orange light…
To Be Continued…
A/N: Yeah… The Good Luck Charlie line is a bit cheesy but whatever… As you can tell I've decided to have Teddy regenerate. Not one person was apposed to having her regenerate, whitch was a little surprising. I figured that one or two people might say for her not to but anyway. Once again, thanks for all the nice reviews, keep it up!
