A Good Man and Woman Go to War
I fell to my knees. "Oh my god!" I put my hands on my face and started to sob. I couldn't believe it whoever took Amy, took my daughter, too. The Doctor and I had no idea that Annabelle wasn't real. We never had any reason not to suspect that Annabelle wasn't real. And now she was gone.
The more I sat there on my knees, crying at the loss of my daughter, the more hysterical I became. The Doctor and Rory tried to get me to calm down but I wouldn't have any of it They kept trying to touch me and I just fought them off and screamed at them. The last thing I remember that night was The Doctor and Rory dragging me kicking and screaming out of the console room, taking me to my room and The Doctor giving me a sedative.
-ONE MONTH LATER-
(Annabelle's POV)
Amy and I were dressed in simple white button up tops and pants, in the nursery of the base on Demons Run, looking at our daughter, as she laid in her crib. Yes, you read that right. Little Melody Pond was the daughter of Amelia Pond and Annabelle Duncan. She was the first Human/Time Lord hybrid in history.
Apparently, Amy and I were kidnapped when we went to the bathroom at the White House and replaced by Gangers. When, The Doctor blocked the signal to the Flesh, we both woke up and found ourselves in a white room in harnesses. Amy gave birth to our Melody a short while later. I let Amy name her because I knew how much she and Rory wanted a child. The first moment I held Melody I knew she was my daughter, the same way Mom knew I was her daughter the first time we touched.
We looked down at the little girl and Amy said, "I wish I could tell you that you'll be loved. That you'll be safe and cared for and protected. But this isn't a time for lies," she picked up Melody and said, "What you are going to be, Melody is very, very brave.…"
"Two minutes," said a female voice. I looked and saw Madam Kovarian, our 'hostess' and some of her guards.
Then I said, "But not as brave as they'll have to be. Because there are two people coming. I don't know where they are, or what they're doing, but trust me. They're on their way." Amy handed me Melody. I cradled her in my arms and said "There's a man and a woman who are never going to let us down." I walked with her over to a window and looked out I saw a large army gathering outside in the hanger below, "And not even an army can get in their way."
Then, Madam Kovarian walked up to me, her arms out, wanting me to hand over Melody. Every part of my military training wanted me to fight back to take Melody and Amy and run. But, I knew I couldn't risk Amy or Melody's life like that. We had nowhere to run. So begrudgingly, I handed Melody over.
Korvarian placed her in a bassinet. Then I spoke up, "Could we have just a couple more minutes?"
Korvarian rolled her eyes, "Fine…"
"Thank you," I said.
Then, Amy and I walked up the table with the bassinet. Melody started to fuss and Amy said, "They are the last of their kind."
"They look young, but they've lived for hundreds and hundreds of years." I said.
"And wherever they take you, Melody, however scared you are, I promise you, you will never be alone." Amy leaned over and kissed Melody on the forehead.
"Because this man and woman we've been talking about are your father and grandmother," I said, "They have names, but the people of the universe know the better as The Last Centurion and Teddy Duncan…"
-20,000 LIGHT YEARS AWAY-
(Teddy's POV)
We needed information on where Amy and Annabelle were. We had nailed down a time but we still needed a place. It took us a couple more weeks but we were able to find the quadrant. The Doctor knew where we would have to go to find out where Amy and Annabelle were being kept.
Rory and I infiltrated the headquarters of the 12th Cyber Legion. For some reason, The Doctor insisted on Rory wearing his Roman outfit. We reached the control center and the door slid opened to reveal the Cyberleader and several more Cybermen. I said to the group, "We have a message and two questions. The message is from The Doctor and we each have a question. Where is my daughter?" I asked
"And Where is my wife? asked Rory. The Cybermen just looked at us, "Oh, don't give us those blank looks."
Rory and I walked to a window that over looked the rest of the Cyber fleet, "The 12th Cyber Legion monitors this entire quadrant," I said, "You hear everything. So you tell us what we need to know, you tell us now, and we'll be on our way."
"What is the Doctor's message?" asked the Cyberleader.
At that second, ships started to explode outside, I looked right at the Cyberleader, "Would you like us to repeat the questions?"
Needless to say but the Cyberleader told us where Amy and Annabelle were being held. A base on an asteroid named Demons Run. The next step in our plan was getting an army together so The Doctor decided to cash in on some old debts.. Our first stop was to London 1888. There we picked up a Silurian named Vastra and her human wife, Jenny.
Vastra was awoken during the construction of an extension of the London Underground. The construction work accidentally killed everyone but her. She wanted revenge for the deaths of her sisters and killed at least five people before The Doctor found her and convinced her it was just an accident. She then integrated herself into Victorian London and became a well respected member of the community and quite wealthy. She worked as a private detective and also she was a consultant for Scotland Yard, helping them with some of their most difficult cases.
Our next stop was to the Battle of Zaruthara in the year 4037, to pick up a Sontaran named Strax. The Doctor didn't tell me what Strax did but in order for him to restore honor to his clone batch, he was given the greatest punishment a Sontaran could recive, to help the weak and sick, so Strax was made a nurse. Strax was more than willing to help.
We needed more reinforcements so The Doctor and I dropped Rory off at Stormcage to talk to River Song….
(Third Person)
River Song swayed down the halls of Stormcage, dressed in a late Victorian style dress. She was humming to herself as the alarms blared. She walked up to the phone that was across from her cell and picked it up, "Oh, turn it off. I'm breaking in, not out. This is River Song, back in her cell... Oh, and I'll take breakfast at the usual time. Thank you!" She hung the phone up and glided along the floor. She sipped when she saw a silhouette of someone dressed as a Roman. "Oh, are you boys dressing up as Romans now? I thought nobody read my memos."
Then, the figure moved out of the shadows and she saw it was Rory, "Dr Song? It's Rory. Sorry, have we met yet? Time streams, I'm not quite sure where we are…"
"Yes. Yes, we've met," said River sounding alittle sad, "Hello, Rory."
"What's wrong?"
River gave a nervous laugh, "It's my birthday. The Doctor, Teddy and Annabelle took me ice skating on the River Thames in 1814, the last of the great frost fairs. They got Stevie Wonder to sing for me under London Bridge."
"Stevie Wonder sang in 1814?"
"Yes, he did. But you must never tell him," she said as she put a finger on her lips.
"I've come from The Doctor and Teddy too…"
"Yes, but at a different point in time."
"Unless there's two of each of them."
"Now, that's a whole different birthday," said River as she walked toward her cell. She pulled her diary out of her muff and started to read.
"They need you!" said Rory.
River looked up and closed the book, "Demons Run."
"How...how did you know?"
"I'm from their future. I always know. Why on earth are you wearing that?"
"The Doctor's idea."
"Of course. His rules of engagement. Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee."
"Look ridiculous."
"Have you considered heels?" asked River as she turned away from Rory.
"They've taken Amy and Annabelle." said Rory, "and we think Amy had a baby. The Doctor and Teddy are getting some people together, we're going after them, but they need you too."
"I can't," said River. Then she turned to face Rory, "Not yet, anyway."
"I'm sorry?"
"This is The Battle of Demons Run. The Doctor and Teddy's darkest hour. They'll rise higher than ever before and then fall so much further. And...I can't be with them till the very end."
"Why not?" asked Rory.
"Because this is it," said River as she entered her cell, "This is the day they find out who I am."
(Teddy's POV)
We secured our reinforcements and picked our Dorium Maldovar. When we picked up Rory from Stormcage, he told us River couldn't come. The Doctor and I both knew that there had to be a good reason for her not to come with us. So, instead of fighting it we headed off to Demons Run….
(Annabelle's POV)
A short time after, Korvarian took Melody away. Amy and I watched from the window of the nursery Colonel Manton, Kovarian's right hand man, stand on a platform in the middle of the hanger, with four Headless Monks behind him and Kovarian standing to the side smirking… I wished I could slap that smirk off her face. Colonel Manton, started to address his troops who stood 'at ease' in front of him, "He is not the devil. She is not a goddess. They are not goblins, or phantoms or tricksters. The Doctor and Teddy are living, breathing man and woman, and as I look around this room I know one thing... We're sure as hell going to fix that." The solders started to cheer
Just then the door to the room opened, I turned and saw a young woman enter, "Sorry." said the young woman as she walked in and walked down the stairs toward Amy and me, "I shouldn't be here, I'm meant to be at the thing. I brought you something." It was a green piece of fabric in the shape of a leaf, "Your child's name, in the language of my people. It's a prayer leaf and we believe, if you keep this with you, your child will always come home to you."
"Can I borrow your gun?" I asked.
"Why?" asked the young woman.
"Because, I've got a feeling you're going to keep talking." Then I turned back toward the window.
"Talking like they're famous," said Amy, "The Doctor and Teddy aren't famous…"
"They've meet a lot of people," said the young woman, "Some of them...remember," I turned and looked at the woman and she smiled at me. She continued "Remember meeting all three of you. You and your family are sort of like... I dunno. Dark legends."
"Dark?!" Amy scoffed, "Have you met them?"
"Yeah."
Amy turned around, "But I was just a little girl." said the young woman.
"So was I," said Amy.
"Where did we meet?" I asked the young woman.
"The Gamma Forests…."
"Ah yes…" I said, as I nodded, "I remember that trip very well…"
The young woman smiled and looked at Amy, "You've been with them a long time then."
"No," Said Amy, "They came back for me."
"You must be very special."
I smiled and took Amy's hand, "Yes… Yes she is…"
Amy looked at the young woman, "You can wait a long time for the Doctor, Teddy and Annabelle. But they are worth it. OK?"
We both walked up to her and I said, "The thing is my uncle and my mom are coming. There is no question about it. Just make sure you're on the right side when they get here. Not for Amy's sake or my sake… but for yours."
Amy held out her hand and the young woman gave Amy the prayer leaf, "Thank you." Amy held the prayer leaf between her hand as the young woman left. Then, Amy and I went back to the window.
Colonel Manton was still speaking to the troops, "On this day, in this place, the Doctor and Teddy will fall." The soldiers cheered at that comment. Then the colonel continued, "The man who talks, the woman who reasons, the man who lies, the woman who deceives, will meet the perfect answer. Some of you have wondered why have we have allied ourselves with the Headless Monks. Perhaps you should have wondered why we call them Headless. It's time you knew what these guys have sacrificed for faith. As you all know, it is a Level One Heresy, punishable by death, to lower the hood of a Headless Monk. But by the divine grant of the Papal Mainframe herself, on this one and only occasion, I can show you the truth. Because these guys never can be…" He lowered the hood of the first monk and all that was there was a knotted stump where the head and neck should have been, "persuaded! They NEVER can be…" he lowered the hood of the second monk, "Afraid." he walked up to the third monk, "And they can never, ever be…"
But before the colonel could lower the hood of the third monk, it and the forth monk threw their hood back to reveal themselves to be The Doctor and Mom!
"Surprised!" said Mom and The Doctor, together.
Amy and I could barley contain our excitement as we saw my mom and uncle. Amy acted like she wanted to jump through the glass and run to them.
"Hello everyone!" said Mom, "Guess who!"
Her and The Doctor walked to the front of the stage, "Please point a gun at us if it helps you relax." said The Doctor. All of the soldiers did. The other Headless Monks around the crowd of solders drew their energized swords, "You're only human."
"Doctor, Ms. Duncan, you will come with me, right now!" said Colonel Manton, with his gun drawn and pointing at Mom and The Doctor.
They both turned and smiled at the colonel, "Three minutes, forty seconds." said The Doctor.
"Amelia Pond! Annabelle Duncan! Get your coats!" said Mom, as she looked up toward Amy and Me. Mom and The Doctor put their hoots back on and the lights went out.
Amy and I put our hands up to the glass so we could see better. But a few seconds later, the lights came on and Mom & The Doctor were gone.
"We are not phantoms," said Mom's voice.
"Doctor?" called the colonel.
"We are not tricksters," said The Doctor's voice.
"Teddy?"
"We are monks," said Mom and The Doctor's voices together.
"Doctor, Teddy, show yourselves!" said the colonel.
"It's him! He's here!" shouted one of the soldiers. He aimed his gun at the Headless Monks that surrouned the solders. The monks then started to 'charge' their swords. "It's him!" shouted the solders. Then he shot one of the monks
"Weapons down!" ordered Manton, "Do not fire!"
One of the he monks raised its hand and a shot a ball of energy from it and killed the soldier. "NOOO!" screamed Manton. Then the monks and soldiers start fighting each other, "Doctor! Teddy!" The colonel stepped forward, "Nobody discharge their weapon in this room. Nobody! Do not fire! Stop, wait! Listen to me! I'm disarming my weapon pack." he removed the weapon pack from his gun. "Monks, I do this in good faith! I am now unarmed." he placed the pack on the floor, "All of you, discharge your weapon packs. The Doctor and his niece are trying to make fools of us... We are soldiers of God, we are not fools! We are not fools!"
The soldiers removed their pack and started to chant, "We are not fools!"
"We are not fools!" said Colonel Manton with his men.
"We are not fools!" the soldiers continued to chant.
I smirked, "Wanna bet?"
The soldiers continued their chant and soon they are were all unarmed and the monks even lowered their swords. Then, a few moments later an army of an armed Silurian and Judoon appeared. Then, a Sontaran walked up on the stage next to the colonel, pointed a gun at him and said, "This base is now under our command."
"I have a fleet out there!" said Colonel Manton, "If Demons Run goes down, there's an automatic distress call."
"Not if we knock out your communications array," called my mom's voice.
"And you've got incoming!" said The Doctor's voice.
"Danny Boy to the Doctor," called Danny Boy. I recognized the voice as the leader of the squadron of Spitfires that Prof. Bracewell turned into spacecraft when we visited Churchill about a year before, "Danny Boy to the Doctor."
"Give 'em hell, Danny Boy!"
As the asteroid rocked from the hits and Amy and I laughed in delight.
"Target destroyed," announced Danny Boy.
We heard Mom and The Doctor laugh. Then, Amy and I hugged and laughed. We walked back over to the window and saw Colonel Manton hang his head in shame. "Don't slump, it's bad for your spine!" said the Sontaran to the Colonel.
Amy and I laughed and waited for our rescue…
(Teddy's POV)
Vastra, her wife Jenny, Dorium, The Doctor and I were in the communications room when we heard Strax come in escorting Colonel Manton by gunpoint, "All airlocks sealed, resistance neutralized!" said Strax
The Doctor and I were sitting at the main control panel, then we turned and faced him, "Sorry, Colonel Manton, I lied. Three minutes, 42 seconds." said The Doctor.
"Colonel Manton, you will give the order for your men to withdraw," said Strax.
"No. Colonel Manton... I want you to tell your men to run away," said The Doctor.
"You what?" asked the colonel.
"We want you to use those words," I said, "Run away. We want you to be famous for those exact words."
"We want people to call you Colonel Run-Away," said The Doctor.
"We want children laughing outside your door, because they've found the house of Colonel Run-Away."
The Doctor stood and pointed his finger at the colonel , "And, when people come to you, and ask if trying to get to us through the people we love... is in any way a good idea…" The Doctor shouted. The Doctor took a breath and continued in a normal tone of voice, " We want you to tell them your name. Oh, look! I'm angry. That's new. I'm really not sure what's going to happen now."
Just then Madam Kovarian walked in escorted by two Silurians, "The anger of good people is not a problem," she said, "Good people have too many rules."
I stood and walked toward the woman, "Good people don't need rules." Then I stood toe to toe with the woman and said, "Today is not the day to find out why we have so many."
"Give the order," said Madam Kovarian. I gave her a crooked smile then stepped back with my uncle. Then she looked at the colonel and said, "Give the order Colonel Run-Away."
(Annabelle's POV)
Amy and I were still in the nursery when we heard a knock on the door. Amy rushed around trying to find something to use as a weapon, "Who's that, who's there?" she found a an industrial thermometer, "You watch it, cos we're armed and really dangerous and...cross!"
"Yeah. Like I don't know that," said Rory's voice through the door.
"Rory? Rory, is that you." I asked.
"Yeah, it's me…" he said. I heard the buzz of a sonic screwdriver, "Hang on a minute."
"Try setting 7," I said.
"They took her," said Amy, "Rory, they took our baby away."
The doors slid open and their stood Rory in his Centurion costume and he was holding Melody in his arms, "Now, Mrs. Williams... That is never, ever going to happen," he as he walked over to Amy and me.
"Oh, my God. Oh, my God," said Amy as she check Melody, "Where's she been, what have they done to her…"
"She's fine. Amy, she's fine, I checked. She's beautiful," Rory started to cry, "Oh, God, I was going to be cool. I wanted to be cool, look at me."
"You're OK. Crying Roman with a baby, definitely cool. Come here, you!" Then she kissed Rory.
Just then, I heard Mom's voice, "Annabelle?"
I turned and saw my mom, I ran over to her and hugged her, "Oh Mom…" I said as I started to cry. I missed her so much.
She hugged me back and said, "Are you OK, Sweetpea?" I nodded. Then she started to cry and we went back to hugging.
Then I heard The Doctor say, "Ugh, kissing and crying, I'll be back in a bit."
"Oi! You! Get in here. Now," said Rory.
The Doctor came in and joined us then he gave me a hug.
Rory walked over with Melody, "My daughter. What do you think?"
I bit my lip, "Hello. Hello, baby." said The Doctor.
"Melody." said Amy.
"Hello, Melody Pond!" said The Doctor.
"Melody Williams," said Rory.
"..is a geography teacher," said Amy, "Melody Pond is a superhero!"
Melody started gurgling and The Doctor said, "Well, yes, I suppose she does smell nice. Never really sniffed her, maybe I should give it a go. Amelia Pond, c'mere!" He went to Amy and gave her a hug.
"Doctor!" she said.
"I'm sorry we were so long," he gave her a sniff.
"It's OK," said Amy, "We knew you were coming. All three of you. My boys and My girl…"
Melody squealed, The Doctor said, "It's OK, she's still all yours. And really you should call her Mummy, not Big Milk Thing."
"OK, what are you doing?" asked Amy
"I speak Baby," said The Doctor.
"No, you don't!"
"I speak everything...Don't I, Melody Pond?" Melody gurgled and The Doctor straighten his tie, "No, it's not...it's cool!"
We all laughed then Mom said, "Melody… That's a beautiful name… Can I hold her?"
"Of course," said Amy as she put Melody in Mom's arms.
"Hello there, Melody," said Mom. Melody gurgled happily and then my mom's face went pale. She looked up at me and said, "Annabelle… Why did Melody just say 'Hello, Grandma' to me."
"Well," I said, "We don't know how it happened but Melody is my daughter, too. She's half human/half Time Lord."
Before we could continue talking Vastra walked in, "Doctor! Teddy! Take a look. They're leaving." We all walked to the window and looked out and we saw the soldiers being marched away, "Demons Run is ours without a drop of blood spilled. My friends, you have never risen higher!"
A little while later, we were at the TARDIS. The Doctor and Mom and brought her out of hiding and she was sitting in the middle of the hanger. Rory and I were talking when Amy walked out comforting a crying Melody. "What's wrong?"
"She doesn't like the TARDIS noise," she said, "I asked your uncle, To turn something off, but it was all 'I don't want to punch a hole in the space-time continuum'."
I shook my head and smiled. I looked at Rory I could tell that he was a little upset with the whole situation, "You OK?"
"Yeah…. Yeah…"
"You know that this isn't my fault… I didn't want to be the 'father' of Amy's baby…"
"I know… I know…"
"Rory, Amy and I talked about this. As far as the both of us are concerned, you are Melody's father. OK?"
He nodded, "OK." We shared a quick hug then Vastra's wife, Jenny and Strax the Sontaran walked up to us.
"Rory!" said Jenny, "The Judoon have escorted the Clerics out of the quadrant, Spitfires have returned to their own time, and Captain Avery and his men…" she looked over at Amy, "Is she all right?"
"Yes, she's just crying." said Amy.
"She's tired," I said, "She's had a long day."
"Give her to me, human fool," said Strax, "She needs changing."
"I just changed her. I think she might need a feed."
"A feed, of course. I'll take care of everything." he stepped toward Amy and Melody with his hands out.
"I really don't think you will, actually," said Rory.
"I have gene-spliced myself for all nursing duties," said Strax, "I can produce magnificent quantities of lactic fluid."
Just then Mom and The Doctor walked out of the TARDIS with an old fashioned cradle.
"She's not hungry, she's tired," said The Doctor, "Sorry, Melody, they're just not listening."
I rolled my eyes, "That's what I said."
"What's this?!" asked Amy
"Very pretty, according to your daughter," said Mom.
"It's a...it's a cot," said Rory.
"No flies on the Roman. Give her here." said The Doctor
Amy handed Melody to The Doctor, "There we go."
"But where would you get a cot?" asked Rory.
The Doctor put Melody into the cradle, "
"It's old. Really old. Doctor...do you have children?" asked Amy.
"No." said The Doctor.
"Have you ever had children?"
The Doctor looked at Melody, "No, it's real, it's my hair."
"Who slept in here?" asked Amy.
"Doctor, Teddy, Annabelle!" called Vastra's voice over the loudspeakers, "We need you in the main control room."
"Be right there!" called The Doctor, "Things to do... We've still got to work out what this base is for. We can't leave till we know."
I followed Mom and The Doctor as they started to walk off. Then Amy said, "But this is where Annabelle and I were? The whole time I thought we were on the TARDIS, we were really here."
Mom walked up to Amy and gave her a hug, "You were on the TARDIS too...your heart, your mind, your soul. But physically, yes, you and Annabelle were here."
"And when I saw that face looking through the hatch…" said Amy, "that woman looking at me…"
"It was reality bleeding through. "
"So her flesh avatar was with us all that time," said Rory, "But that means they were projecting a control signal right into the TARDIS. Wherever we were in time and space."
"Yeah, they're very clever," said The Doctor.
"Who are?" asked Amy
"Whoever wants Melody," I said.
"But why do they want her?"
"Exactly!" said The Doctor.
"Is there anything you're not telling us?" asked Rory, "You knew Amy wasn't real, you never said."
"Well, we couldn't be sure they weren't listening," said Mom.
"But you lot always hold out on us," said Amy, "Please, not this time. Doctor, it's my baby. Tell us something. One little thing."
"It's mine," said The Doctor.
"What is?" asked Rory.
"The cot. It's my cot. I slept in there." The Doctor smiled then us Time Lords head to the main control room.
(Teddy's POV)
The Doctor, Annabelle and I entered the control room and we saw Dorium sitting at the controls and Vastra was standing near. "You've hacked into their software then?" asked The Doctor.
"I believe I sold it to them." said Dorium.
"So what have you found out?" I asked.
"That anger is always the shortest distance to a mistake," said Vastra.
"What?"
"The words of an old friend who once found me in the London Underground, attempting to avenge my sisters on perfectly innocent tunnel diggers."
"Well...You were very cross at the time," said The Doctor.
"As you were today, old friend," said Vastra, "Point taken, I hope."
The Doctor nodded. Then, I spoke up, "How did they even make Melody in the first place?"
Dorium brought up the screen. Then, Vastra narrated, "Apparently, they harvested eggs from Annabelle and Amy's ovaries. Then, they used Annabelle's eggs to make female sperm. Once the embryos were ready, they tried several attempts at implanting them into Annabelle's uterus but the embryos failed to grow once implanted. So, then they tried Amy and they succeeded on the first try."
"They worked so hard on this… and yet they gave in so easily," said Dorium, "Does this not that bother anyone else?"
I shook my head "Amy told us she didn't want to tell Rory because she was worried the baby she had would have a time head. Remember?"
"Yes, But…" said The Doctor.
Vastra rolled her eyes, "Only you would ignore the instincts of a mother!"
"Or the instincts of a coward," said Dorium, "This is too easy."
"Dorium's right," said Annabelle, "There's something wrong."
"Why even do it?" asked The Doctor, "Even if you could get your hands on a brand new Time Lord, what for?"
"A weapon?" asked Vastra.
"Why would a Time Lord be a weapon?" I asked.
Vastra looked at The Doctor, "Well...they've seen you."
"Me?" said The Doctor as he sat down in a chair.
"Mr. Maldovar, you're right," said Vastra, "This was too easy. We should get back to the others."
"Me?" The Doctor said again.
Then, Vastra and Dorium left. The three of us Time Lords stayed there and looked at each other trying to think of how sweet little Melody could be used as a weapon. Then, we heard the voice of Madam Kovarian, "I see you accessed our files." The Doctor stood and we all looked at the screen, "Do you understand yet? Oh, don't worry, I'm a long way away. But I like to keep tabs on you. The child then... What do you think?"
"Why did you make her?" asked The Doctor.
"To give us hope. Hope in this endless, bitter war."
"What war?" I asked, "Against who?"
"Against you and your family, Teddy," said Kovarian.
The Doctor slammed his hand down in anger on the console and shouted at Kovarian, "A child is not a weapon!"
"Oh, give us time. She can be. She will be."
"Except you've already lost her," Annabelle said with a smile. Then the smile faded, "and I swear I will never let you anywhere near her again."
"Oh, Annabelle. Fooling you and your family once was a joy... but fooling you twice, the same way, it's a privilege."
Well looked at each other and all realized the same thing… The Melody in the hanger right at that moment… was a Ganger… "Amy!" Shouted Annabelle as she ran out of the room, with The Doctor and I close behind her.
We ran through the corridors hoping to get there in time. As we ran we could hear the sound of fighting. We reached a locked door and the Doctor whipped out his sonic to unlock the door, "Amy, she's not real!" said Annabelle as she pounded on the door, "Melody is a flesh avatar. Amy!"
The door open and we ran in we stop and saw the floor litter with bodies of Headless Monks and Dorium. Jenny was comforting a sobbing Amy who was sitting on a crate holding the blanket that held Melody. Annabelle ran to her.
"Yeah, we know," said Rory as he walk over to a dying Strax
"It's strange," said Strax, "I have often dreamed of dying in combat. I'm not enjoying it as much as I'd hoped."
"Come on, Strax, don't give up." said Rory.
"It's all right, I've had a good life. I'm nearly 12."
"Listen to me. You'll be back on your feet in no time. You're a warrior!"
"Rory... I'm a nurse." Then, Strax died.
We looked and saw Annabelle with Amy and Jenny. We walked over to them and Amy said, "So they took her anyway. All this was for nothing."
Rory walked up to us and The Doctor said, "I am so... sorry." he went to hug Amy but she backed away.
"Amy... it's not his fault," said Jenny.
Amy started to cry, "I know, I know."
Rory put his arms around her and comforted her. "Doctor Teddy," Vastra called, " there's someone who wants to speak to you two." We walked up to a young female soldier laying on the ground, sitting against a wall near some stairs. She had a wound in her stomach, "Her name is Lorna, she came to warn us."
The Doctor scanned her with his sonic as he squatted down next to her on her left. I squatted down next to her on the right. Lorna opened her eyes, "Hey. Hello," said The Doctor.
"Doctor!" said Lorna. She looked over at me, "Teddy!"
"You helped our friends," I said, " thank you."
"I met you all once. In the Gamma Forests. You don't remember me."
"Hey, of course I remember," said The Doctor as he held her face between his hands, "I remember everyone. Hey, we ran, you and me! Didn't we run, Lorna?" Then Lorna died.
I looked at Vastra, "Who was she?"
"I don't know but she was very brave," said Vastra.
"They're always brave," said The Doctor, "They're always brave." Then, The Doctor and I stood up.
"So, what now?" asked Vastra, "They'd almost certainly have taken her to Earth, raise her in the correct environment."
"Yes, they did." I said.
"And it's already too late," said The Doctor then we started to walk away.
"You're giving up?" asked Vastra, "You never do that."
The Doctor turned toward her, "Don't you sometimes wish I did?"
Then there was a bright flash of light and clap of energy. We looked and saw River Song, "Well, then, soldiers, how goes the day?" she asked.
Annabelle marched over to her, "Where the hell have you been?!" she shouted.
"Annabelle…" I said.
She turned and looked at me, "No, Mom… Every time she's asked we've been there… The one time you and The Doctor ask for help she doesn't come…" she looked at River, "Where the hell were you today?"
"I couldn't have prevented this," said River.
"You could've tried!" said The Doctor
"And so, Doctor, could you." Then she turned to Amy and Rory, "I know you're not all right. But hold tight, Amy, because you're going to be."
"You think I wanted this?" asked The Doctor, "I didn't do this. This... this wasn't me!"
"This was exactly you, Doctor," said River, " All this, all of it. You make them so afraid. When you began, all those years ago, sailing off to see the universe, did you ever think you'd become this? The man who can turn an army around at the mention of his name? Doctor? The word for healer and wise man, throughout the universe. We get that word from you, you know. But if you carry on the way you are, what might that word come to mean? To the people of the Gamma Forests, the word 'Doctor' means mighty warrior. How far you've come. And now they've taken a child... the child of your great niece and best friend... and they're going to turn her into a weapon, just to bring you and your family down. And all this, Doctor...in fear of you."
"Who are you?" I asked.
"Oh, look, The Doctor's cot!" she said lightly, "Haven't seen that in a very long while." She walked over to it.
"No, no, you tell us. Tell us... who you are."
River took my hand and placed it on the cot, "I am telling you. Can't you read?" I looked inside the cot and saw a green piece of cloth. I picked it up. "What's this?"
"Lorna gave it to us," said Annabelle. "It's a prayer leaf. It has Melody's name in the language of the Gamma Forests."
I looked at the leaf on one side it had 'River'… on the other side it had 'Song.' I showed it to Annabelle and The Doctor… We couldn't believe it… Then, the three of us looked up at River. Annabelle went up to River and hugged her and started to cry, "I'm sorry…"
"It's all right," said River, "It's not your fault… I don't blame you… I don't blame any of you…"
The Doctor and I went up to her and hugged her. I laugh a little, "But... but that means…"
"I'm afraid it does," said River with a laugh.
I looked at Annabelle, "Wait till your grandma finds out about this…"
The three of us Time Lords laughed… Well, three and a half Time Lords…
The Doctor looked at the others, "Vastra and Jenny, till the next time."
Annabelle when up Rory and Amy, she gave them a hug and said, "Rory and Amy, we will find our daughter and on our lives, she will be safe."
I looked at River, and said, "River, make sure to get them all home." I tossed the prayer leaf back into the crib.
Then, us three Time Lords headed for the TARDIS to start the search for my granddaughter… Melody Pond a.k.a. River Song.
