The Bells of Saint John

After we left Victorian London, we started on a search for another Clara. There was a Clara far in the future and a Clara in the 19th Century. According to the Rule of Three's there had to be another version of Clara. During our search we had to deal with some old business with some old friends, but once that was done the search continued.

After several months of no luck The Doctor said he need to go somewhere to clear his head and think. The place he chose was a monastery in Cumbria in the year 1207. Not wanting to distract the other monks, Annabelle and I stayed with the TARDIS. We parked her in a underground cavern to keep her from raising suspicion.

A few days into our stay in Cumbria, Annabelle and I were doing some routine maintenance on the console when we heard a phone start to ring by the doors. Annabelle and I looked at each other and headed for the door. When we got there we could hear the phone in the door ringing. We looked at each other, "What should we do?" asked Annabelle.

"There's only one thing to do," I said, "get Uncle Theta…"

We went to the monastery by horse and gave a message for the monks to take to The Doctor. It was a simple message. "The Bells of Saint John are ringing." Several minutes later, The Doctor, dressed as a monk, came out and we headed back to the cave.

When we got back to the cave, the phone was still ringing, "That is not supposed to happen." he open the door with the instruction panel on it. Inside was the ringing phone. He picked it up and held it so the three of us could all hear, "Hello?" he asked.

"Ah, hello. I can't find the internet," asked a female voice.

"Sorry?"

"It's gone, the internet. Can't find it anywhere. Where is it?

"The internet?" I asked.

"Yes, the internet. Why don't I have the internet?"

"It's twelve oh seven," said The Doctor.

"I've got half past three," said the female, "Am I phoning a different time zone?"

"Yeah, you sort of are," said Annabelle.

"Will it show up on the bill?"

"Oh, I dread to think," said The Doctor.

"Where did you get this number?" asked Annabelle.

"The woman in the shop wrote it down," said the female, "It's a help line, isn't it? She said it's the best help line out there. In the universe, she said."

The Doctor looked at us and said in his thoughts, "Did either one of you give out the number for the TARDIS?"

We both shook our head and responded, "No."

The Doctor then said to the female on the phone, "What woman? Who was she?"

"I don't know. The woman in the shop. So, why isn't there internet? Shouldn't it sort of be there?"

"Look, listen, I'm not actually… it isn't…" said The Doctor as he searched for the right words.

I spoke up, "Did you click on the Wi-fi button?

"Hang on," said the female, "Wi-fi."

"Click on the Wi-fi, you'll see a list of names. Do you see one you recognize?"

"It's asking me for a password," said the female.

"Is it okay if I go and see Nina?" asked a girl's voice, "You can call her mum."

"Sure. What's the password for the internet?"

"Rycbagar123"

"How am I supposed to remember that?" the phone went quiet for a moment then the female returned, "Hang on. A mo. Run. You. Clever. Boy. And. Girls. Remember. One." The three of us Time Lord looked at each other with wide eyes, "Two. Three."

"What did you say?" The three of us said together.

"Don't shout. Now you've made me type it wrong. It's thrown me out again. What do I do? How do I get back in?"

We didn't answer her, The Doctor hung up the phone and we rushed inside the TARDIS. Even though The Doctor hung up the phone, the TARDIS kept the line open so we could trace the call. We locked into London in the early 21st century, a few months after we left Amy and Rory's house for the last time. We landed outside a quaint little house. We ran to the door and The Doctor franticly knocked on the door and rang the bell.

Then we heard the female voice from the phone inside the house said, "Hello? Yes, I hear you. Yep. Uh huh…" Then she opened the door and in front of us stood Clara, "Hello."

I smiled, "Clara? Clara Oswald."

"Hello?"

"Clara Oswin Oswald," asked The Doctor.

"Just Clara Oswald," said Clara, "What was that middle one?"

"Not important," said Annabelle, "Do you remember us?"

"No. Should I? Who are you?"

"The Doctor," said my uncle as he took a step into the house, "Teddy…" he said as he pointed at me, "Annabelle…" as he pointed at my daughter." No? Annabelle? Teddy? The Doctor?" The Doctor then looked into a mirror by the door.

"Doctor who?" asked Clara.

"No, just the Doctor." As he took another look in the mirror. Then he looked back at Clara, "Actually, sorry, could you start all that again?"

"Could I what?"

"Could you just ask me that question again?" asked The Doctor. I rolled my eyes.

"Doctor who?" asked Clara.

"Okay, just once more." asked The Doctor. I put my hand to my head and shook it. Not believing what was happening.

"Doctor who?"

"Oh, yeah," said The Doctor as he stepped back outside and did a little dance, "Ooo. Do you know, I never realized how much I enjoy hearing that said out loud. Thank you."

"Okay." said Clara then she closed the door on us.

"Raise your hands if you saw that coming," I said. Annabelle and I both raised our hands.

The Doctor meanwhile started pounding on the door again, "Hey, no, Clara, please. Clara, We need to talk to you. Listen. Please. Please, I just need to speak to you."

There was a beep by the door, and I saw a speaker and with a built in camera. We stood in front of it and Clara said, "Why are you still here? Why are you here at all?"

"Oi, you phoned us," said The Doctor, "You were looking for the internet."

"That was you?" asked Clara.

"Of course it was us."

"How did you get here so fast?"

"We just happened to be in the neighborhood," I said with a smile.

"You called us on our mobile phone," said The Doctor as he pointed back to the TARDIS.

"When you say mobile phone, why do you point at that blue box?" asked Clara.

"Because it's a surprisingly accurate description," said Annabelle.

"Okay, we're finished now," then Clara turned off the intercom.

"Oi, no, don't." The Doctor said as he pounded the door one more time, "Okay," He said, "Obiously, me being dress as a monk is throwing her off…" then he ran to the TARDIS.

"Yeah, That's it…" I said as Annabelle and I ran to follow him.

Once we were in the TARDIS. The Doctor started to take his robes off, "Don't be a monk. Monks are not cool."

Then he ran down the steps to below the console. He opened up one of the doors an started to throw clothes out of it. He found a fez and popped it on his head, "Ah Ha!"

But he pushed it off again as he continued to search. Then he pulled out his normal tweed jacket and a dark purple coat. He stood up and held up a jacket in both hand and looked at Annabelle and me, "Tweed or Purple?" he asked.

Annabelle and I looked at each other, nodded and looked back at The Doctor, "Purple…"

"Purple it is!"

Annabelle and I then went back up to the console so The Doctor could get dressed. He came back up wearing the purple coat, a white dress shirt, dark brown pants with suspenders, brown boots, and a purple bowtie around his neck. He also got a little trim on his hair, "All right," He said, "Let's try this again."

We walked back out of the TARDIS and up the front door. The Doctor pressed the buzzer and said, "Clara! Clara?"

"Hello?" asked Clara.

"Ah, see? Look, it's me. De-monked. Sensible clothes. Can I come in now?"

"I don't understand."

Something didn't seem right with Clara. Then The Doctor said to her, "You just open the door."

"I don't know."

"Of course you can," said The Doctor.

"Where I am," said Clara sounding very scared, "I don't know where I am." We all looked at each other and rushed over to the door, "Where am I? Please tell me where I am. I don't know where I am." The Doctor took out his sonic and unlocked the door. "I don't know where I am. I don't know where I am!" pleaded Clara.

When we got inside we saw Clara laying on the floor unconscious. We all got down on the floor by her, The Doctor did a quick check of her vitals with his sonic and checked her pulse, "Clara? Clara?" I asked.

"I don't know where I am," said Clara voice. We looked up and saw what looked like a little girl wearing an old fashioned dress standing on the stairs. Her body was facing forward but her head was facing backwards. The back of her head was curved inward like a spoon. In the spoon we saw Clara's face and she continued to pleaded "I don't know where I am. I don't understand. I don't know where I am! I don't understand. I don't know where I am." the three of us stood up and took out our sonic screwdriver and pointed them at it. "Where am I? I don't know where I am." called Clara.

After several moments, the girl started to flicker away and in it's place was a simple looking robot, "Walking base station. Walking Wi-Fi base station. Hoovering up data. Hoovering up people."

"Well, it's not vacuuming up Clara!" said Annabelle. Annabelle pulled out her sonic and headed upstairs. She came back down a moment later with a small blue laptop. She sat down on the steps, put her glasses on, pulled her hair back into a ponytail and started to work. Annabelle over the years had become quite the computer wiz. So hacking into the robot was no problem for her. She started taping away on the keyboard, "Oh no, you don't." She continued to furiously tap the keys, "Oh, no. Not this time, Clara, I promise." Annabelle continued to type for a few more minutes then. She laughed, "Yeah, like that will work…" She typed a few more moments, then a stream of energy went from the robot to Clara, bringing her back to life.

Clara took a deep breath and coughed. Then rolled on her back, "It's okay, it's okay," said The Doctor, "You're fine. You're back. Yes, you are. Oh yes, you are."

I stood up and walked up to my daughter with a big smile, "Nice work."

She smiled, set the laptop down and stood up, "All in a day's work." I gave her a hug, "Oh…" she said, "One more thing…" She broke the hug, sat back down, and picked up the laptop. "Just need to send a message to whoever is behind this… 'Under Our Protection - Annabelle, Teddy and The Doctor.' Send. " Then, she pressed the enter key.

We took Clara upstairs to her bedroom. I tucked her into bed. Annabelle got her a pitcher water and poured her a glass. The Doctor then brought in some flowers and a put them into a mug. Then, he took out a package of Jammy Dodgers, opened it up, inhaled their scent then placed them on a plate. He picked up one and took a bite. Then he put it back on the plate. I smacked him upside the head, "Oi!" he said softly, "What was that for?"

"You don't take a bite out of a cookie and put it back," I said softly, "Who do you think you are Santa Claus?"

"Yes."

Annabelle laughed softly, "Don't let Jeff hear you say that?"

The Doctor picked up the cookie he put down at finished it. Then he walked over to Clara's bookshelf and picked up a book titled 101 Places to See. He flipped through it. At the front of a book it read, "Property of Clara Oswald," then there was a list of ages starting at 9 that were crossed of until the list reached 24. Ages 16 and 23 were skipped for some reason. On the opposite page of the list of ages was a pressed maple leaf. The Doctor looked at it on all sides, he sniffed it then licked it. I just shook my head at him. Then he put the leaf back in the book and put the book back on the shelf. Then, we headed back downstairs to let Clara rest.

Later that night, we were sitting in front of Clara's house. Annabelle was doing some investigating on Clara's laptop while The Doctor and I examined the Wi-Fi base station robot. We heard the window open in Clara's room and her voice called out, "Hello?"

We looked up and saw Clara popping her head out of the window at the top of the house, "Hello!" I said as the three of us stood up and looked up at her, "Are you all right?"

"I'm in bed," she said.

"Yes," said Annabelle.

"Don't remember going."

"No." said The Doctor.

"What did I miss?" asked Clara.

"Oh, quite a lot, actually," said The Doctor as he took out his notepad and we all stepped closer to the house, "Angie called. She's going to stay over at Nina's. Apparently that's all completely fine and you shouldn't worry like you always do. For god's sake get off her back. "

"Also, your dad called," I said, "He seams liked a nice man. He's not very happy with the government. The Doctor's got several pages of notes about it. We said we'd looked into it."

Annabelle took her glasses off, "I fixed that rattling noise in the washing machine."

"I indexed the kitchen cupboards," said The Doctor

"I weeded the main flower bed and rearranged the plants so they get the optimal amount of sunlight."

"While she was doing that The Doctor and I assembled the quadricycle," said Annabelle.

"Assembled a what?" asked Clara.

"I found a disassembled quadricycle in the garage," said The Doctor.

"I don't think you did."

Annabelle gave him a swat on the shoulder, "I told you that wasn't a quadricycle!"

"Well, think of it like this," said The Doctor, "We invented the quadricycle. Ha!" Annabelle shook her head and rolled her eyes

"What happened to me?" asked Clara.

We turned back up to Clara, "Don't you remember?" I asked.

"I was scared, really scared. Didn't know where I was."

"Do you know now?" asked Annabelle.

"Yes," said Clara.

"Well then, you should go to sleep," said The Doctor, "Because you're safe now, I promise. Goodnight, Clara."

"Goodnight," said Annabelle and I together.

Then we walked back over by the TARDIS. Annabelle put her glasses back on picked up Clara's laptop and went back to work. While, The Doctor and I continued to examine the robot. We heard the window close then open again, "Are you guarding me?" asked Clara.

We looked at each other and then up at Clara and Annabelle said, "Yes, Yes, we are."

Clara smiled and laughed a little, "Are you three seriously going to sit down there all night?"

"We promise we won't budge from this spot," I said.

"Well then, I'll have to come to you," then Clara went back inside.

"Eh?" said The Doctor confused.

Clara came outside a few minutes later with a chair and some mugs. She set the chair down and we each took a mug, "Thank you," I said. Then I took a sip of the tea she brought us, "You have very nice house."

"It isn't mine," said Clara, "I'm a friend of the family."

"But you look after the kids," said The Doctor, "Oh yes, you're a governess, aren't you, just like…" Annabelle gave him a nudge to stop him from talking.

"Just like what?" asked Clara as she sat down backwards in the chair she brought out.

"Just like," The Doctor took a sip of tea, "I thought you probably would be."

"Are you going to explain what happened to me?"

We all sat down and Annabelle picked up the laptop, "There's something in the Wi-Fi." she said.

"Okay."

"This whole world is swimming in Wi-Fi," said The Doctor, "We're living in a Wi-Fi soup."

"Suppose there was something living in the Wi-Fi," I said, "harvesting human minds and trapping them like flies in the World Wide Web. Stuck forever, crying out for help."

"Isn't that basically Twitter?" said Clara. We all looked at her, with stunned looks on our faces, "What's that face for?"

"A computer can hack another computer," said Annabelle, "A living, sentient computer could hack people and Re-write them."

"Why would you say that?" asked Clara.

"Because a few hours ago you called us because you didn't know how to connect to the internet," I said, " and you just made a joke about Twitter."

"Oh… Oh, that's weird," said Clara, "I know all about computers now in my head. Where did all that come from?"

"You were uploaded for a while," said The Doctor, "Wherever you were, you brought something extra back, which I very much doubt you'll be allowed to keep." The Doctor turned around. I look where he was looking and saw a man standing by a lamp post across the street. He stood up and took a few steps forward, "Everyone inside that box, now."

"I'm sorry?" said Clara.

The Doctor walked a back over "Look, just get inside."

"All four of us?"

"Oh, trust me," The Doctor went over to the TARDIS to unlock the door, "You'll understand once we're in there."

"I bet I will."

"Clara, please."

"What is that box, anyway? Why have you got a box?"

"Clara"

"Is it like a snogging booth?"

"A what?"

"Is that what you lot do… bring a booth?" asked Clara, "There is such a thing as too keen."

"It's not a 'snogging booth'" I said, "He's my uncle. She's my daughter. And, while you are a very attractive young woman. I don't like you that way…"

"Wait," said Clara. She pointed at Annabelle and me, "She's your daughter? She's your mum?"

"It's a long story…" I said. Just then I noticed lights turning on in the house all around us, "But that's not important right now… Look around you."

The four of us looked around and watched as more and more lights turned on, "What's going on?" asked Clara, "What's happening? Is the Wi-Fi switching on the lights?"

"No, people are switching on the lights," said The Doctor, "The Wi-Fi is switching on the people."

Our eyes landed on the man across the street. But, it wasn't a man. We figured that out when we saw his head start to turn around to reveal the same dish like back of the head as the robot that we saw inside the house, "What is that thing?" asked Clara.

"A walking base station," said Annabelle, "You saw one earlier."

"I saw a little girl."

"It must have taken an image from your subconscious, thrown it back at you," said The Doctor.

"If they are using active camouflage," I said, as I started looking around, "They could be everywhere."

"Doctor? Teddy? Annabelle?" said Clara. I looked over at Clara and she was looking behind the house. I looked where she was looking and saw the lights of London going out, "What's going on? Our lights are on and everyone else's off. Why?"

We heard the sound of airplane engines, "Some planes have Wi-Fi." said Annabelle. I looked in the sky and saw an airplane heading toward us.

"I'm sorry?" asked Clara.

"We must be one hell of a target right now," said The Doctor.

"Everyone in the box right now!" I shouted. I ran to the TARDIS to unlock it. Annabelle and I ran to the console to prepare for departure, while The Doctor grabbed Clara's hand and pulled her inside, "Yes, it's a spaceship," he said, as he joined us at the console, "Yes, it's bigger on the inside. Now, we don't have time to talk about it."

"But, but, but, but it's" said Clara as she looked around at the console room with wide eyes.

The Doctor walked up to one of the side panels and said to her, "Shut up, please. Short hops are difficult."

"Bigger on the inside. Actually bigger."

The Doctor pulled a lever there was a quick jolt, "Right, come on," said The Doctor as we ran back to the doors.

"We're going to go back out there?" asked Clara, as she joined us by the doors.

"No," I said, "This is a spaceship. We've moved."

"So we moved away from the plane?"

"Not exactly," said Annabelle.

Then The Doctor opened the doors and we were in the plane that was about to crash toward us. "How did we get here?" asked Clara.

"It's a ship," said The Doctor, "We told you. It's all very sciency."

"This is the plane? The actual plane? Are they all dead?"

"No," I said, "They're all asleep. The Wi-Fi switched them off."

"Never mind them," said The Doctor as he lead us to the cockpit and opened the door with his sonic. We went inside and saw the pilot and co-pilot were both asleep. We also saw we were still headed straight for Clara's house.

"What is going on?" asked Clara, "Is this real? Please, tell me what is happening!"

The Doctor took out his sonic and started to scan the various panels, "I'm the Doctor." he quickly pointed at me, "That's my niece, Teddy," He pointed at Annabelle, "That's her daughter, Annabelle, she was progenerated from a machine. We're aliens from outer space. I'm over thousand years old. Teddy's 395 years old, Annabelle's 200, we've got two hearts and not one of us can't fly a plane! Can you?"

"No."

"Oh, fine. Let's do it together." The Doctor then grabbed the pilot's wheel and the co-pilot's wheel and pulled back as hard as he could. We just missed the roof of Clara's house and we headed back into the sky. As the pilots started to wake up The Doctor cheered, "Whoo! Would a victory roll be too showy offy?"

"YES!" said Annabelle and I together.

"What the hell's going on?" asked the pilot

"Well, I'm blocking your Wi-fi, so you're waking up, for a start," said The Doctor as he patted the pilot on his shoulder, "Tell you what, do you want to drive?" Then, The Doctor walked out of the cockpit. Annabelle and I followed with Clara close behind.

We went back into the TARDIS. We moved her out of the plane and set our next destination. Clara finished her tea and set the mug on top of the console. I was surprised that through that whole experience she didn't drop her mug, "Okay. When are you going to explain to me what the hell is going on?"

"Breakfast," said The Doctor. He pulled a lever and The TARDIS jolted to a stop.

We headed around the console and headed for the door. "What?" said Clara as she ran around the other side of the console and stopped us before we could get there, "I ain't waiting till breakfast."

"This is more than a spaceship," I said, "It's a time machine. You never have to wait for breakfast."

The Doctor opened the door and we could hear applause, "Thank you, thank you." said The Doctor, as he walked out. The rest of us stepped out and we saw we were on the south bank of the Thames near Parliament "Yes, magic blue box," said The Doctor to the crowd who was applauding us for making the TARDIS paper out of thin air. He took out a fez and held it out to the crowd, "All donations gratefully accepted," People started to drop money in the hat, "Roll up, give us your dosh. Pennies, pounds, anything you've got." He handed the fez to Clara, "Keep collecting. We need enough for breakfast. Just popping back to the garage, Annabelle with me…"

"Garage?" asked Clara, as The Doctor and Clara headed into the TARDIS. Clara looked at me, "So this is tomorrow, then. Tomorrow's come early."

"Not really," I said, "For everyone else Tomorrow came at the usual time. We took a short cut."

Just then we heard the sound of two motorcycles. I turned around and saw The Doctor and Annabelle drive out of the TARDIS, both wearing helmets, "Thank you, Thank you," said The Doctor, "Tomorrow, a camel." Clara climbed on the back of The Doctor's bike and he handed her a helmet. Clara handed him the fez, he took the money out of if and put it on the head of a boy standing by his bike.

I walked up to Annabelle's bike, "What do you think you're doing?" I asked.

"Oh, come on, Mom!" she said, "I'm 200 years old… I'm not a baby anymore…"

"You were never a baby," I said as I got on the back of Annabelle's bike and put the helmet on, "If your grandmother finds out about this…"

Then we headed off. We drove side by side through the streets of London. As we crossed Westminster Bridge, I heard Clara ask The Doctor, "If you've got a flying time machine, why are we on a motorbike?"

"We don't take the TARDIS into battle," he said.

"Because it's made of wood?"

"Because it's the most powerful ship in the universe and we don't want it falling into the wrong hands."

We had breakfast at a rooftop café near St. Paul's Cathedral. After we finished eating, The Doctor brought out Clara's laptop and started to work on finding whoever was behind this. Though Annabelle was good at computers and hacking, The Doctor was much better. "So if we can travel anywhere in time and space, why did we travel to the morning?" asked Clara, "What's the point in that?"

"Whoever's after us spent the whole night looking for us. Are you tired?" asked The Doctor.

"Yes."

"Imagine how they feel. They came the long way round." said The Doctor, as he continued to work, "They've got to be close. Definitely London going by the signal distribution. I can hack the lowest level of their operating system but I can't establish a physical location. The security's too good."

"Are you aliens?" asked Clara.

"Yes, we are," I said, "Are okay with that?"

"Oh, yeah. Think I'm fine."

"Good," I said with a smile.

Clara looked at The Doctor, "So, what happens if you do find them? What happens then?"

"I don't know," said The Doctor, "We can't tell the future, we just work there."

"You don't have a plan?"

"Oh, you know what I always say about plans."

"What?"

"I don't have one."

"People always have plans."

"Yes. Yes, I suppose they do."

"So, how long have you been looking after those kids?" I asked Clara.

"About a year, since their mum died."

"But, why you? I understand being a family friend. But there must have been others. Why did it have to be you? You don't really seem like a nanny."

Instead of answering Clara grabbed the laptop from The Doctor, "Gimme."

The Doctor grabbed it back, "What?"

"You need to know where they physically are. Their exact location."

"Yes."

She grabbed the laptop again, "I can do it."

"Oi, hang on. I need that."

"You've hacked the lower operating system, yeah? I'll have their physical location in under five minutes. Pop off and get us a coffee."

The Doctor grabbed it back and they started a game of tug-of-war with the laptop. Annabelle and I sat there and looked back and forth between the two of them as they talked "If I can't find them, you definitely can't."

"They uploaded me, remember? I've got computing stuff in my head."

"So do I."

"I have insane hacking skills."

"I'm from space and the future with two hearts and twenty seven brains."

"And I can find them in under five minutes plus photographs. Twenty seven?"

"Okay, slight exaggeration."

"More than slight," I said.

"Coffee, go get. Five minutes, I promise."

"The security is absolute."

"It's never about the security, it's about the people." I was amazed at how fast Clara's fingers flew across the keyboard.

"Come on," I said to The Doctor, "I'll help with the coffee."

"I'm coming too," said Annabelle, "I want another one of those chocolate croissants."

The three of us headed in. The Doctor stopped and looked at Clara. Clara caught him and asked, "Why do you keep looking at me like that?"

"Sorry, no, it's nothing. It's just, you're a nanny. Isn't that a bit, well, Victorian?"

"Victorian?"

"You're young. Shouldn't you be doing, you know, young things?" The Doctor tried to do the Twist and a little disco dancing, "With young people?"

"You mean like you, for instance?" asked Clara, "Down, boy."

"No. No. I didn't," said The Doctor as he stepped back toward her, "Shut up." Then, The Doctor stormed inside. Clara laughed as she went back to work. Then, Annabelle and I went and followed The Doctor.

When we caught up to him he was looking over the pastries on the counter. Then he looked at the barista who was an older gentleman and said, "Four more cappuccinos and a chocolate croissant over there, please."

"One moment, sir," said the barista. There was a flicker of light then the barista said, "You realize you haven't the slightest chance of saving your little friend."

"What?" I asked.

There was another flicker of light ,"One moment." said the barista. There was a flicker again and he said, "I said, there's not the slightest chance of saving your little friend. And don't annoy the old man. He isn't, in fact, speaking."

There was another flicker of light and voice behind us said, "I'm speaking." we turned and saw a young black woman who worked in the café as a waitress, "Just using whatever's to hand. "Oh, she's rather pretty, isn't she? Do you like her?" The Doctor walked up to her and got right in her face, "Make her like you, too, if you want." There was another flicker and the waitress went back to normal, "You all right, sir?"

"Er, yes. Yes. Fine," said The Doctor, then the three of us ran outside.

Clara was still typing away at the keyboard, "Are you okay?" I asked.

"Sure. Setting up stuff. Need a user name."

"You're learning fast," I said.

"Clara Oswald for the win. Oswin!"

That made me think of Oswin Oswald… Maybe all three were all related somehow… but we had more important things to worry about at that moment. We ran back into the café and the waitress came back up to us and walked around us , "Now I want you to take a look around. Go on, have a little stroll. And see how impossible your situation is. Go on, take a look. I do love showing off." There was a flicker of blue light and the waitress walked away.

We looked around at everyone then a young girl stood up, "Just let me show you what control of the Wi-Fi can do for you. Stop!" Everyone else in the café stopped moving.

"We saw what you can do last night," I said.

"And clear," said the girl. Then, everyone walked out of the café.

The Doctor shrugged looking around at the empty café. The TV in the café was on a news channel. There was a flicker of light and the woman newsreader said to us, "We can hack anyone in the wifi once they've been exposed long enough."

"So there's one of your walking base stations somewhere close," said Annabelle.

"There's always someone close. We've released thousands into the world. They home in on the wifi like rats sniffing cheese. "

"I don't know who you are or why you're doing this, but the people of this world will not be harmed," said The Doctor as we marched over to the TV "They will not controlled. They will not be.."

The woman on TV interrupted, "The people of this world are in no danger whatsoever. My client requires a steady diet of living human minds. Healthy, free-range, human minds. He loves and cares for humanity. In fact, he can't get enough of it."

"It's obscene," I said, "It's murder."

"It's life. The farmer tends his flock like a loving parent. The abattoir is not a contradiction. No one loves cattle more than Burger King."

"This ends now," said Annabelle, "We're going to end this today."

"How?" asked the woman, "You don't even know where we are."

"Who's doing this?" asked The Doctor, "Who is your client? Hmm? Answer me."

There was a flicker of blue light and the newsreader returned to normal. We looked at each other and ran outside. "Clara?" called The Doctor, "Clara!"

We saw Clara slumped over the table. There was a robot of the Doctor standing there. It's body was pointed toward Clara but it's head was facing us, " Doctor? Teddy? Annabelle? Doctor, help me. I, I don't know where I am," The robots head started to turn toward us as we could see an image of Clara's face on the dish in the back of the robots head. Clara continued, "I don't understand. Teddy, help me, please. I don't know where I am. I don't know where I am! I don't know where I am. Annabelle, please. Please help me. Please help me. I don't know where I am. I don't know where I am."

The Doctor took out his sonic screwdriver and muted the robot. Annabelle walked up to the table, looked at the laptop and smiled , "She did it, She really did. She found them."

"Where are they?" I asked.

"They're in the Shard. 65th floor."

The Doctor looked over at the large pointed building, "Now I have a plan," He said.

A short time later, The Doctor was on his motorcycle heading toward the Shard. After a short trip he stopped outside and looked up at it. A large man eating fish and chips was standing next to him, and he said, "Really, Doctor. A motorbike? Hardly seems like you."

"I rode this in the Anti-Grav Olympics, 2074," said The Doctor, "I came last."

"The building is in lock-down. I'm afraid you're not coming in."

"Did you even hear the word, Anti-Grav?" The Doctor pressed a big read button on the gas tank and drove away. Then, he drove right up the side of the building. As he got close to the 65th floor he took out his sonic screwdriver, broke the glass on one of the offices and landed right inside. He dropped the bike on the floor then he walked over to a desk set back in the chair and put his feet up.

A moment later, an older woman with short hair walked in, "Do come in."

"Download her." said The Doctor.

"Sorry about the draft," she said as she motioned to the window.

"Download her back into her body right now."

"I can't."

"Yes, you can."

"She's a fully integrated part of the data cloud, now. She can't be separated."

"Then download the entire cloud. Everyone you've trapped in there."

"You realize what would happen?"

"Yes, those with bodies to go home to would be free."

"A tiny number. Most would simply die."

'They'd be released from a living hell. It's the best you can do for them, so give the order."

"And why would I do that?"

"Because I'm going to motivate you, any second now."

"You ridiculous man. Why did you even come here? Whatever for?"

"I didn't."

"What?"

"I'm still in the cafe."

It was true that whole time The Doctor was with Annabelle and I at the café. The Doctor and Annabelle had hacked into the robot and she was controlling it through the laptop.

"My nieces and I are finishing our coffee. Lovely spot."

Annabelle spoke up. But, the woman in the office would still hear the Doctor's voice coming from the robot, "You hack people, but us? We're old-fashioned. We hack technology. Here's your motivation…" Annabelle pressed a button and the woman was uploaded into the data cloud.

"No, not me! Not me!" said the woman as she was downloaded.

"Now to make sure they do the right thing," said Annabelle. She had the robot pick up the tablet that the woman used to control her staff and had in increase the obedience level of her second in command. A few moments later, we saw Clara was breathing again. We knew she was safe for now so we decided to head back to the TARDIS. On the way back, I called UNIT and let them know what was going on, so they could clean up the mess.

We landed outside Clara's house, later that day. Shortly after we landed we heard a knock on the door, "Come in," said The Doctor, as he read a book on the stairs and wearing his reading glasses.

Clara came in and said, "So, they come back, do they?

I looked up from the console, "You didn't answer my question."

"What question?" asked Clara.

"You don't seem like a nanny."

"I was going to travel. I came to stay for a week before I left, and during that week…"

"She died, so you're returning the favor," I said with a nod, "Very commendable."

The Doctor closed his book, "You've got a hundred and one places to see, and you haven't been to any of them, have you? That's why you keep the book."

Clara walked over to the console, "I keep the book 'cos I'm still going."

"But you don't run out on the people you care about," The Doctor took off his glasses Wish I was more like that." Then, he put them into his inside jacket pocket, "You know, the thing about a time machine," he walked down and joined the rest of us at the console, "You can run away all you like and still be home in time for tea, so what do you say? Anywhere. All of time and space, right outside those doors."

Clara smiled, "Does this work?"

"Eh?"

Clara laughed, "Is this actually what you do? Do you just crook your finger and people just jump in your snog box and fly away?"

"It is not a snog box," said us three Time Lords together.

"I'll be the judge of that," said Clara.

"Starting when?" asked The Doctor.

"Come back tomorrow. Ask me again."

"Why?"

"Cos tomorrow, I might say yes," Then Clara headed for the door, "Sometime after seven okay for you?"

"It's a time machine. Any time's okay."

"See you then."

Clara was about to go out the door when Annabelle asked, "Clara?"

Clara stopped and turned back, "Uh-huh?"

"In your book there was a leaf. Why?"

Clara smiled, "That wasn't a leaf. That was page one." Then she left.

We all looked at each other and The Doctor said, "Right then, Clara Oswald. Time to find out who you are." The Doctor pulled a lever and we set out to find out who Clara was…

A/N: For those of you who have read my other story "Liv & Maddie's Adventures in Time & Space," You'll know that I stop writing that one because I had a bit of writer's block but I've figured it out and I can't wait for you guys to see it. So, if you haven't started reading it yet you should. I hope to have the next chapter of that story up in a few days.
