Cold War
For our next trip with Clara we decided to go to Las Vegas. We decided to have a little fun and we were going to take something to the Gold and Sliver Pawn Shop and blow Rick Harrison's mind. The Doctor stepped out of the TARDIS first, wearing sunglasses, and said, "Viva Las Vegas!"
But, all the sudden there was a shift and we all fell out of the TARDIS. I looked around and saw were on a sinking Soviet submarine! "Intruder on the bridge!" said a young shipman, who turned out to be the second in command.
"Who the hell are you?" asked the captain.
The Doctor took his sunglasses off and put them in his pocket, "Not Vegas then!"
"No," I said.
"No, this is much better!" said The Doctor.
"How is this better?!" asked Annabelle, "We're on a sinking submarine?"
"A sinking Soviet submarine!"
"Break out side arms!" said the second in command, "Restrain them!"
"410. 420! Turbines still not responding!" called out another crew member.
"They've got to!" said the captain.
Annabelle took out her sonic, "You've still got sideways momentum!"
"What?"
"Your propellers work independently of the main turbines. You can't stop her going down but you can maneuver the sub laterally! Do it!"
"Get these people off the bridge now!" ordered the second in command.
Two crewmen grabbed The Doctor and Clara called out, "Just listen to her, for God's sake!"
"There is a geographical anomaly to starboard," said Annabelle, "Its probably an underwater ridge."
"How do you know this?" asked the captain.
"Look, we have a chance to stop the descent."
"600 meters, sir," said the crewmember at the controls, "610..."
"Because if we don't, this thing is going to implode!" said Annabelle.
"Lateral thrust to starboard - all propellers!" said the captain.
"Sir?" said the crewmember.
"Now!"
"You're going to let this woman give the orders?" asked the second in command.
"Lateral thrust!" ordered the captain.
"Aye, sir!" said the crewman at the controls, "660...680..." The ship shuttered as it landed on the ridge. We all breathed a little easier once that the submarine came to a stop, "Descent arrested at...700 meters."
"It seems we owe you our lives," said the captain, "whoever you are."
"I'll hold you to that," said Annabelle, "It might come in handy!"
"Search them," ordered the second in command, "Yes, I know, they are women. Now search them!"
The crewmen pushed up against a pole in the middle of the bridge, "Are we going to be ok?" asked Clara.
"Oh, yes," said The Doctor.
"Is that a lie?"
"Possibly."
"This is a very dangerous time, Clara," I said as they searched us, "East and west are standing on the brink of nuclear oblivion. There are a lots of itchy fingers on the button."
"Isn't it always like that?"
"Sort of. But there are flash points and this is one it's the 80's Everything's bigger… hair, shoulder pads, nukes."
The crew took items out of our pockets including our sonic screwdrivers. The crew handed them to the captain, "I'd like a receipt, please." said The Doctor as he reached for them.
The captain pulled them back," What is this?"
The sub creaked at tilted Clara fell to the floor, "Clara!" I called out.
"Teddy!" called Clara as she fell in the water and hit her head.
"Clara!" called out The Doctor. Then all of the sudden the TARDIS started to dematerialize, "No, no, no, no! No, not now!"
Clara came to a short while later. We moved into a corridor while the crew tried to get the water out of the bridge. One of the crew gave Clara his jacket to wear. I smiled when she woke up, "You OK?" I asked.
"Yeah… Nothing a little aspirin can't fix…" said Clara.
"I hope your fine with ibuprofen… Time Lords and aspirin don't mix…"
Just then we heard the captain and The Doctor fighting, "Captain, we didn't know the type of your ship out here…" said The Doctor.
"Yeah, well, that's till the rescue ship comes," said the captain.
"If it comes!"
Annabelle and I helped Clara to her feet as the captain said to The Doctor, "Oh, the sinking is just a coincidence, is it? Who are you?" the captain pushed The Doctor against the wall.
"All right, Captain, all right," said The Doctor, "You know what? Just this once, no dissembling, no psychic paper, no pretending to be an Earth ambassador. Doctor - me, Clara, Teddy and Annabelle, time travellers. Clara, you ok?"
"Think so," said Clara.
"Time travellers?" asked The captain.
"We arrived here out of thin air! You saw it happen!"
"I didn't," said an older man with wearing some headphones around his neck.
"Your problem, mate, not mine!" said The Doctor.
"We were sinking…" said Clara.
"Yes."
"What happened?"
"We sank."
"No, what happened to the TARDIS, I mean?"
"Never mind that," said The Doctor, "Listen... Captain, breath's precious down here. Let's not waste it, eh?"
"You're right, maybe I can save a little oxygen by having you four shot?"
Clara stepped forward, "What does it matter how we arrived? The important thing is to get…" Just then I saw something I thought I would never see on Earth. It was a Martian Ice Warrior. It was tall and broad, in heavy armor. Only the bottom of its face was viable. I could see a scaly reptile-like mouth. The Ice Warrior hissed"…out." said Clara, as she finished her thought.
As usual, The Doctor was completely oblivious, "Exactly!" said The Doctor, "Number one priority, not suffocating!" he patted the captain on the chest. The captain saw what was behind The Doctor and he let go of my uncle and backed way. "Eh? Ah, oh, thank you! Finally, seeing sense! Now, what sort of state is the sub in?"
"Doctor!" said Clara said.
"What about the radio? Can we send a…"
"Doctor!" shouted Annabelle and I together.
"What?!" Shouted The Doctor. The Ice Warrior behind him hissed. "What is that? Gas? Could be gas!" Finally he saw that we were looking at something behind him. He slowly turned around and saw the Ice Warrior. It growled again, "Ah…" said The Doctor as he backed away. The Ice Warrior took a few steps forward, "It never rains but it pours."
"We were drilling for oil in the ice," said the older man, "I thought I'd found a mammoth."
"It's not a mammoth," I said.
"No."
Clara stood next to The Doctor and asked, "What is it, then?"
"It's an Ice Warrior," said Annabelle, "A native of the planet Mars."
"And we go way back," said The Doctor, "Way back."
"A Martian?" asked the captain, "You can't be serious."
"We're always serious. With days off."
"Doctor!" whispered Clara.
"Just keeping it light, Clara," whispered The Doctor, "they're scared."
"They're scared? I'm scared!"
One of the officers came up behind Clara and aimed his gun at the Ice Warrior. The Ice Warrior lifted its arm.
"No!" I shouted, "please, wait! Just... there's no need for this! Just hear me out! You're confused, disorientated. You've been lying dormant in the ice for, for how long?" I looked at the older man, "How long, Professor?"
"By my reckoning, 5,000 years," answered the older man.
"5,000 years? That's a hell of a nap," said The Doctor, "Can't blame you if you've got out of the wrong side of bed."
"Nobody here wants to hurt you," said Annabelle as she pushed down the officer's gun, "Please, just, why don't you tell us your name?"
"What're you talking about? It has a name?" asked the captain.
"Of course it has a name - and a rank. This is a soldier. And it deserves our respect."
"This is madness. That is a monster!"
"Skaldak."
"What did you say?" asked Annabelle.
"I am Grand Marshal Skaldak."
"Oh, no."
Then, Skaldak growled and shuttered as electricity coursed through him. He turned around to face is attacer and it was the second in command with something that looked like a cattle prod, "You idiot!" shouted Annabelle." Then, Skaldak fell to the floor, unconscious. "You... Idiot!" shouted Annabelle again, "Grand Marshal Skaldak."
"You... know him?" asked Clara.
"I know of him," said Annabelle, "I'm an expert in everything and anything that has to do with the military. He's the sovereign of the Tharsisian caste, vanquisher of the Phobos heresy, and the greatest hero the proud Martian race has ever produced."
"So what do we do now?" asked The Captain.
"Lock... Him... Up!"
The Russians locked Skaldak in the torpedo room. We went into the communications room to talk. "The Ice Warriors have a different creed, Clara," said The Doctor. "A different code. By his own standards, Skaldak is a hero. It was said his enemies honored him so much they'd carve his name into their own flesh before they died."
"Oh, yeah, very nice. He sounds lovely," said Clara.
"An Ice Warrior? Explain," said The Captain.
"There isn't time!" said The Doctor.
"Try me."
"Okay," said Annabelle, "Here is the short version. The Ice Warriors are Martian bio-mechanical cyborg reptiles. When Mars turned cold they had to adapt. So they built survival amour so they could exist in the freezing cold of their home world, but an increase in temperature and the amour goes haywire.
"Like with the cattle prod thing?" asked Clara.
"Like that cattle prod thing. It's bit of a design flaw, I've always wondered why they never fixed that."
"Is he that dangerous?"
"This one is," I said. Just then I heard beeping coming from the professor's Walkman headphones, as he slipped them on.
"Why are we listening to this nonsense, Captain?" said the second in command, "These people are clearly enemy agents."
"Eh?" said Clara.
"Spies, captain!"
"Pretty bad spies, mate. I don't even speak Russian!"
It was at that exact moment that I remembered that we hadn't told Clara about the TARDIS translation matrix, "What?" asked the second in command.
"I don't…" said Clara, "Am I speaking Russian? How come I'm speaking Russian?"
"Now?" asked The Doctor, "We have to do this now?"
"Are they speaking Russian?"
"Seriously? Now?! It's the TARDIS translation matrix."
The second in command turned back to the captain, "In my opinion, Comrade Captain, this creature is a Western weapon."
"Are they?" asked Clara.
"Yes!" I said, "They're Russians!"
"A weapon?" asked The Captain.
"Survival suit," said the second in command, "What is the alternative? The little green man from Mars?"
"Correction. It's a big green man from Mars." said the professor.
The captain laughed. Then, the second in command said, "I do not appreciate your levity, Professor."
"Why does that not surprise me?" asked the professor, "Maybe they're telling the truth."
"The truth?"
"Yes. A revolutionary concept, I know."
"It's essential that we inform Moscow of what we have found!"
"The radio's out of action, in case you hadn't noticed, Stepashin," said the captain.
"They have our last position," said Stepashin, "They will find us. When they do…"
"Yes?"
"Well, the cold war won't stay cold forever, Captain."
"For God's sake, Stepashin, you're like a stuck record! We have other priorities right now. I want you back on repairs immediately, we need to keep this ship alive. Dismissed."
Stepashin stood in front of The Doctor and stared him down, "Sir...?"
The Captain stood up, "Dismissed, Stepashin!"
Stepashin left the room. Then, The Doctor walked up to the captain and they stood face to face. The Doctor bushed some imaginary lint from the captain uniform. "All we needed to do was let Skaldak go and he'd have forgotten us," said The Doctor, "But you've attacked him. You declared war. 'Harm one of us and you harm us all.' That's the ancient Martian code." We could sill hear the beeping from the headphones. "You hear that? Skaldak's sent out a distress call. He'll bring down the fires of hell just for laying a glove on him!"
"Unless you talk to it?" said the captain.
"I'm the only one who can."
"No. Out of the question. We're not losing you. I'll do it."
"What?"
"You can talk to it through me."
"Skaldak won't talk to you!" said Annabelle, "You're an enemy soldier!"
"How would he know that?" asked the captain.
"A soldier knows another soldier. He'll smell it on you!"
"And he wouldn't smell it on The Doctor?"
"Just let me in there before it's too late," said The Doctor, "It can't be you or any of your men."
"Well, it can't be you or your nieces," said the captain.
Clara cleared her throat. We all turned to face her, "Well, there really is only one choice, isn't there? I don't smell of anything... To my knowledge."
"You?" said The Doctor, "No! No! No way. You're not going in there alone, Clara. Absolutely not! No, no. Never!"
A little while later, The Doctor, Annabelle, the captain and I were watching from a monitor as Clara walked in the torpedo room. Skaldak was chained up to some pipes in the room. He was just standing there as Clara walked in, closed the door and put on a headset. She slowly walked into the room, she picked up a lantern and turned it on.
The captain was sitting in front of the microphone. Annabelle walked up to him, "May I?" she asked.
"Be my guest," said the captain as he stood up.
Annabelle sat down, "Ready, Clara?"
"Yeah," said Clara.
"Ok, Go ahead."
"Grand Marshal Skaldak…"
"The salute," said Annabelle, "Do the salute like I showed you."
Clara set the lantern down then she saluted Skaldak by putting her right fist to her chest. Skaldak hissed. Then she picked up the lantern, "Ok?"
"Good," said Annabelle, "like we rehearsed. 'Sovereign of the Tharsisian caste…'"
"'Sovereign of the Tharsisian caste. By the moons, I honor thee.'"
"Good. Now, Go closer."
Clara walked slowly towards Skaldak, "Grand Marshal, I'm... We're sorry about this."
"It's not what you deserve," said Annabelle.
"It isn't what you deserve."
Then the lantern went out and Clara said, "Oh! Oh, great."
"Hey, it's ok, Clara. Keep going," said Annabelle.
Clara put down the lantern and turned on a flashlight, "You're a long way from home." Clara continued.
"5,000 years," said Annabelle.
"And 5,000 years adrift in time. Please, let us help you. You're not our enemy."
"And yet, I am in chains," said Skaldak.
"Annabelle, what do I say?"
"Yes, Annabelle. What should she say?"
"I think he wants to speak to the organ-grinder, not to the monkey," said the professor.
"I heard that," said Clara.
"You're restrained until we can trust each other, Skaldak," said Ananbelle, over the radio, "You would do exactly the same in my position and don't even think about using that sonic weapon. Not in the torpedo room."
"I was fleet commander of the Nix Tharsis. My daughter stood by me... It was her first taste of action. We sang the songs of the old times. The songs of the red snow. 5,000 years, now my daughter will be... dust! Only dust."
"No, listen. Your people live on, Skaldak! Scattered all across the universe. And Mars will rise again, I promise you. Just, let us help you."
Clara started to walk closer to Skaldak. "I require no help," said Skaldak, "There will be no help!"
"Careful, Clara," said Annabelle.
"I'm ok," said Clara.
"No, listen, Clara, don't get too close."
"I'm ok! Annabelle, something's wrong."
"What?"
"Something's…" Clara reached out and touched Skaldak's helmet. It fell backwards and she stepped back with a gasp, "It's not there! It's gone!"
"What do you mean, it's gone?!" asked Annabelle.
"It's got out!"
"It is time I learned the measure of my enemies," said Skaldak, "And what this vessel is capable of."
"No! Skaldak!" said Annabelle.
"Harm one of us and you harm us all! By the moons, this I swear!"
"Clara! Get out of there!"
Annabelle got out of the chair and the three of us Time Lords ran for the door. The captain pulled his gun on us, "I've never seen one do this before!" said The Doctor, "Actually, I've never seen one out of its amour before."
The captain lowered his gun and we went for the door, "Won't it be more vulnerable out of its shell?" asked the professor.
I stopped in the door, "No, it will be more dangerous."
Us Time Lords ran to the torpedo room calling out Clara's name as we ran. We saw Skaldak rush past us but we had more important things to worry about at that moment. We saw Clara standing in the hatchway we ran up to her and hugged her, "I'm ok," she said, "Ha-ha, I'm ok, I'm ok! Where did he go? How did I do? Was I ok?"
"This wasn't a test, Clara," said The Doctor.
"I know but…"
"You were great. Yeah."
"Really?"
I put a hand on her shoulder, "Really."
"Annabelle," said the professor, "The signal, it's stopped."
Annabelle went over to him and listned to his headphones, "Skaldak didn't get an answer from his Martian brothers. Now he's given up hope."
"Hope of what?" asked the captain.
"Being rescued," I said, "He thinks he's been abandoned. He's got nothing left to lose"
"But what can he do stuck down here like the rest of us? How bad can it be?"
"This sub's stuffed with nuclear missiles, Zhuko," said The Doctor, "It's fat with them! What do you think Skaldak's going to do when he finds that out? 'How bad can it be? How bad can it be?' It couldn't be any worse." The sub shuttered and one of the hatches opened sending water poring in, "Ok, spoke too soon." Then, we ran to the control room.
A short time later, in the control room, the captain gave the crew a status report, "Comrades, you know our situation. The reactor is drowned, we are totally reliant on battery power and our air is running out. Rescue is unlikely but we still have a mission to fulfill. If The Doctor and his nieces are right, then we are all that stands between this creature and the destruction of the world. Control of one missile is all he needs. We are expendable, comrades, our world is not. I know I can rely on every one of you to do his duty without fail. That is all."
Us Time Lords and Clara were sitting at a bank of controls. Clara was facing the room and asked, "Even if a missile did get launched, that wouldn't be... it, would it?"
"'It'?" asked The Doctor.
"End of the world. Game over. I mean, what if they fired one by accident, what would happen then?"
"We told you, Clara. Earth is like a storm waiting to break, right now. Both sides baring their teeth, talking up war. It would only take one tiny spark."
"But the world didn't end in 1983, did it? Or I wouldn't be here."
"History's in flux," I said, "Time can be re-written," I stood up and walked up to the captain, "How many of us are left?"
"14 and we can't find Stepashin."
"We need split up and search the sub," said Annabelle as she walked over, "One team stays here to guard the bridge."
"That's it? That's the plan?"
"Well, it's either that or we stay here and wait for him to kill us." said The Doctor.
"Ok." said the captain, then he walked away.
"Is it true you've never seen one outside of its shell suit?" asked Clara.
"'Shell suit'?" asked The Doctor.
Clara shrugged then Annabelle said, "For an Ice Warrior to leave its amour is the gravest dishonor. Skaldak is desperate, he is deadly and we have got to find him."
"Will these help?" asked the professor.
We turned and saw him holding our sonics, "Ah! You saved them!" said The Doctor as we took them back.
"No, no, they were on the floor with this," the professor held up the doll
"Ah!" The Doctor took the doll and kissed it, "Ah, Professor, I could kiss you!"
"If you insist."
"Later."
We all split up to search for Skaldak. The Doctor, Clara, Annabelle and I went with the professor. As we walked down a corridor, we scanned with our sonics, "So, why have you got a cattle prod on a submarine?" Clara asked the professor.
"Polar bears," he answered.
"Ah, right."
"We run across them when we're drilling. Can be quite nasty, you know?"
"I'd swap one for an Ice Warrior any day. Cuddlier!"
"Courage, my dear."
The Doctor flicked a switch and an alarm started blaring. I rolled my eyes as he tried to shut it off, "I always sing a song." said the professor shouted over the alarm.
"What?" Clara shouted over the alarm.
"To keep my spirits up."
"Yes, that would work... if this was Pinocchio."
"D'you know Hungry like the Wolf?"
"What?"
"Duran Duran - one of my favorites. Come on!"
"I'm not singing a song!" shouted Clara as The Doctor turned the alarm off.
The Doctor opened a hatch and looked in the room and scanned it with his sonic. Just then there was an eerie groan. "What was that?"
"The Pressure," I said, "Just pressure. We're 700 meters down, remember?"
"Don't worry about it," said the professor, "Think of something else," then he started to sing, "Da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da I am hungry like the wolf."
"I'm not singing!" said Clara.
"Don't you know it?"
"'Course I know it. We do it at karaoke. The odd hen night."
"'Karaoke'? 'Hen night'? You speak excellent Russian, my dear, but sometimes I don't understand a word you're talking about."
Clara smiled then we continued our search. A few moments later we heard snarls, growls and screams. We ran to the sounds and I gasped when we found two bodies torn apart, "Good God!" said the professor, "Torn apart. It's a monster. A savage!"
"No, Professor," I said as The Doctor kneeled down and scanned the bodies with his sonic, "It wasn't savage, it was forensic. He dissected them. Skaldak's learning all about you. Your strengths... Your weaknesses…"
The Doctor stood up and said, "Come on!" Then, he ran out of the room and the rest of us followed. The Doctor held out his sonic in front of him. Then he stopped and looked at Clara, "Teddy, Annabelle, with me. Clara. Professor, Stay here."
"Ok," said Clara.
"Stay here! Don't argue," said The Doctor as he started to climb up a ladder.
"I'm not!"
The Doctor paused then said, "Right. Good!" Then, us three Time Lords started up the ladder. We made our way to the maneuvering room. The Doctor went in first and stopped when we found another body. There was a wallet on the floor, I knelt down and picked it up. Inside was a photo of a woman and an ID card smeared with blood, "Oh, Stepashin." I said.
Just then we heard metal rattling and retreating footsteps. We looked up and The Doctor scanned the area with his sonic. Started to run, looking up, "Oh... oh... oh! Fast. He's fast…"
Annabelle and I followed him. Then we heard some shot's being fired. We ran in the direction of the shots and we saw Clara. We came up behind her and we saw Skaldak's arm coming out of the ceiling and grabbed onto the professors' head "No, please, don't hurt him. Please!" begged Clara.
We looked up and all we could see was Skaldak's red eyes, "You attacked me!" he said, "Martian law decree's that the people of this planet are forfeit. I now have all the information I require. It will take only one missile to begin the process. To end this cold war."
"Grand Marshal, there is no need for this. Listen to me…" said Annabelle.
"My distress call has not been answered. It will never be answered. My people are dead. They are dust. There is nothing left for me except my revenge." he growled and we heard some beeping
"There is something left for you, Skaldak. Mercy."
"Mercy?"
Just then the captain arrived, he pointed the rifle at Skaldak and said, "You must wear that armour for a reason, my friend. Let's see, shall we?"
The Doctor grabbed the rifle barrel and pushed down, "No, Captain, wait!" he said.
"I will do whatever it takes to defend my world, Doctor."
"Yes, great, fine, good, but we're getting somewhere here. We're negotiating, 'jaw-jaw not war-war'."
"Churchill?" asked the professor.
"Churchill." said the Doctor, as he pointed at the professor.
"Very well, we'll negotiate but from a position of strength," said the captain as he aimed the gun at Skaldak.
"Excellent tactical thinking," said Skaldak, "My congratulations, Captain."
"Thank you," said the captain.
"Unfortunately, your position is not, perhaps, as strong as you might hope."
There was a low growl and we all looked around, "What do you mean?" asked The Doctor
Just turned and saw Skaldak's armor walk in. It was dragging the chains that held it down. Then, we heard Skaldak run to the suit and climb inside, "He summoned the amour," I said.
"How did it do that?" asked Clara.
"Sonic technology."
Skaldak started to walk away now that he was inside his armor. A crewman who was with the captain came forward and started to shoot at him. The Doctor grabbed him and stopped the crewman from shooting, "My world is dead but now there will be a second red planet!" said Skaldak, "Red with the blood of humanity!"
"Skaldak!" called Annabelle, "Skaldak! Wait!" Then she ran off after him. The rest of us followed. We followed Skaldak to the control room. When we got there, we saw Skaldak at the controls, his arm was extended toward it, with wires sticking out of the wrist of his arm and plugged into the controls. "No!" shouted The Doctor, "Skaldak! Wait! Wait! Wait!"
The Captain pointed his gun at Skaldak, "He's arming the warheads!"
Annabelle stepped up, "Where is the honor in condemning billions of innocents to death? 5,000 years ago Mars was the center of a vast empire. The jewel of this solar system. The people of earth had only just begun to leave their caves. Five thousand years isn't such a long time, they're still just frightened children. Who are you to judge them?"
Skaldak retracted the wires and turned to face us, "I am Skaldak! This planet is forfeit under Martian law."
"Then teach them!" said The Doctor, "Teach them, Grand Marshal! Show them another way! Show them there is honor in mercy. Is this how you want history to remember you? Grand Marshal Skaldak - Destroyer of Earth?"
"Because that's what you'll be if you send those missiles," I said, "You won't be a soldier, You'll be a murderer. Five billion lives extinguished." Skaldak grunted, turned around and put his hand over the launch button. "No chance for goodbyes. A world snuffed out like a candle!"
"All right, all right, Skaldak, you leave me no choice," said The Doctor, "I'm a Time Lord, Skaldak. I know a bit about sonic technology myself." The Doctor took out his sonic screwdriver and pointed it at Skaldak.
"A threat?" asked Skaldak, "You threaten me, Doctor?"
"No. No, not you... all of us," I said as I took out my sonic, "We will blow this sub up before you can even reach that button, Grand Marshal."
"You would sacrifice yourselves?"
"In a heartbeat," said Annabelle as she took out her sonic. The three of us held our sonics upwards and turned them on.
"Mutually assured destruction!" said Skaldak.
"Look into my eye, Skaldak. Look into my eyes and tell me you're capable of doing this. Can you do that? I dare you do that? Look into my eyes, Skaldak, come on! Face-to-face."
Skaldak turned around, "Well, Annabelle," Skaldak's helmet opened and we got our first look at the Ice Warrior's reptilian face. "Which of us shall blink first?"
Clara stepped up "Why did you hesitate? Back there, in the dark. You were going to kill this man, remember? I begged you not to and you listened. Why show compassion then, Skaldak, and not now?" She took a step forward and continued, "The Doctor's right. Billions will die... Mothers, sons, fathers... daughters. Remember that last battle, Skaldak? Your daughter... You sang the songs…"
"Of the red snows," said Skaldak.
Just then there was a crashing sound and the sub started to shake, "What's happening?!" asked Clara.
We heard a strange whirring sound coming from the communication system and Skaldak said, "My people live! They have come for me!"
The Captain looked over at the depth gauge, "We're rising. We're rising!"
"600 metres…" said the professor, "550..."
A few moments later we felt the submarine shutter as it broke through the ice, "We've surfaced," said The Doctor, he looked at Skaldak, "Your people have saved us."
"Saved me, not you," said Skaldak.
"Just go, Skaldak," said Annabelle, "Please, just go in peace."
Then, Skaldak was teleported away, "We did it!" said Clara, "We did it!"
Us Time Lords went over to the controls and Annabelle said, "Not yet! It's still armed. A single pulse from that ship... I'll destroy us if I have to." She looked up at the ceiling and said, "Show mercy, Skaldak. Come on, show mercy."
Then, Clara started to sing nervously, "Da-da-da-dah I'm lost and I'm found and I'm hungry like the wolf."
Just then an alarm sounded as the key ports switched back to the off position, "Now we're safe." said Ananbelle.
Clara came over and we joined in a group hug. When she ended the hug she looked up at us and asked "Saved the world then?
"Yeah," said The Doctor.
"That's what we do."
"Yeah."
We climbed the steps up to the tower and the captain opened it. The Doctor, Clara, Annabelle, the professor and I walked up. We looked up and saw the Martian ship hovering over us.
The Doctor whistled and then Clara said, "The TARDIS! Where's the TARDIS? You never explained."
"Oh, well, don't worry about that," said The Doctor sounding embarrassed.
"What do you mean don't worry about that," I said, "Where is it?"
"Yeah, well, I wasn't to know, was I?"
"Know what?" asked Annabelle.
"I've been tinkering…" said The Doctor, "breaking her in. I'm allowed."
"What did you do?" asked Clara. The Doctor mumbled something and said Clara, "Huh?"
"I reset" said the Doctor normaly then he mumbled something.
"The what?"
"The HADS!"
Annabelle and I both smacked him upside the head, "Why did you even touch the HADS?!" I said
"What's the HADS?" asked Clara.
"It's the Hostile Action Displacement System," said Annabelle, "If the TARDIS comes under attack it relocates."
"And I'm guessing you set it for anything?" I asked.
The Doctor nodded, "gunfire, time-winds, the...sea…"
"Oh, Doctor," said Clara.
"Haven't used it in donkey's years," said The Doctor, "Seemed like a good idea at the time. Well, never mind, it's bound to turn up somewhere!" His sonic buzzed, "Oh! Ha, see, right on cue!" He took his sonic from his pocket, "Brilliant!"
"Brilliant!"
"The TARDIS is at the Pole!"
"Not far then," said Clara, as she turned to head back inside.
I looked at the readings the doctor was getting on his sonic, "The TARDIS is at The South Pole…" I resisted the urge to slap my uncle again.
Clara stopped, "Ah."
"Could we have a lift?" asked The Doctor.
The captain and Clara laughed as they and the professor headed back inside. The Doctor mocked them and I shook my head. When they were gone we all looked up the spaceship. The three of us saluted it as he flew away.
A/N: Hey folks, sorry about the lack of updates. I've just haven't had the urge to keep writing lately. For those of you who are readers of my story, Liv and Maddie's Adventures in Time and Space, I've decided that I'm not going to continue with that story, for now. I might pick it up again after I'm caught up with this story.
