Dark Water
A few weeks after the solar flare. The Doctor, Annabelle and I were off on a distant planet. When we got back to the TARDIS, the phone was ringing, "One of these days I'm going to remember to patch the phone back into the console…"
The Doctor picked up the phone, "Clara!" There was no answer, "Clara?"
Then Clara answered. "Hey!"
"Sorry, we were busy," Said The Doctor as he pulled the phone into the TARDIS, "What's happening?"
"Oh, nothing. You know, same old, same old."
"Well, you're only human," said The Doctor, "So what we can do for you, Clara?"
A short time later, we landed the TARDIS in Clara's apartment. The Doctor was working on something when Clara came in, "Start her up," said Clara.
"Where are we going?" I asked.
"Away," said Clara.
"From?"
"Just away," said Clara as she headed down to the lower level.
"Well, normally you say work or kids or dishes or dullness," said Annbelle, "So what's happened?"
"A volcano," called Clara.
"What?" I asked
"I've never seen an active volcano, do you know one?"
"What's so great about seeing a volcano?" asked The Doctor, "It's just a sort of leaky mountain."
"I've never seen lava."
"It's rubbish."
"Prove it," said Clara. We turned and saw her standing at the bottom of the stairs to the lower level.
Clara walked up and then headed up to the top level. "Mom… Uncle Theta…Something is up with Clara," said Annabelle, telepathically.
"We know, Young Theta," said The Doctor, telepathically.
"Keep an eye on her but don't let her know what we are on to her," I said, telepathically
"Do you still have those sleep patch things?" asked Clara.
"You can't have one," said The Doctor.
"I'm having trouble sleeping."
"You still can't have one," I said.
"Can I have one?" asked Clara.
"No, you can't have one," said Annabelle.
"So, volcano," said The Doctor, as he brought the TARDIS to a stop, "What's so good about lava?"
Clara came up to The Doctor and tried to put the 'sleep' patch on his neck but he grabbed her hand as the 'sleep' patch had already taken effect.
"Somethings happened," I said, "What could drive Clara into wanting to knock us out?"
"We need to let this play out," said Annabelle.
"Agreed," said The Doctor. He took Clara's hand and said, "Clara in a moment you will find yourself on a cliff overlooking the crater of an active volcano. Then, you will go on as you planned."
The three of us laid down on the floor of the console. Then, a moment later, we looked around and sat up, "Clara?" asked The Doctor.
"It's on your necks" said Clara. The three of us felt the back of our necks to pretended to feel the 'sleep' patches.
We stood up and saw Clara holding all of the TARDIS keys, "You told me once what it would take to destroy a TARDIS key. That's what's so good about lava. All seven. From all of your hiding places."
She held up one of the keys, "Clara, what are you doing?" asked The Doctor, "Don't. Be very, very careful with that. Those are very, very..." Then, she threw it, thinking she was throwing it into the lava.
"Do I have your attention?"
"Yes," I said.
"Good."
"No. Not good, Clara," said Annabelle.
"Danny Pink," said Clara.
"What about Danny?" I asked.
"Is dead."
I gasped and instantly I knew what was going on, "Oh, Clara… I'm so sorry," I wanted to give her a hug, to comfort her but she didn't look to be in the hugging mood at that moment.
"I don't understand," said Annabelle, pretending not to know what Clara wanted, "What do you want us to do?"
"Fix it," said Clara, "Change it. Change what happened. Save him. Bring him back."
Clara held up another key "No," said The Doctor.
Clara threw the key, "Five left. Every time any of you say no to me, I will throw another key down there. Do we understand each other?"
"Well, I understand you," I said, "But, let's not get carried away."
"Time can be rewritten," said Clara.
"With precision and great care," said Annabelle, "But, not today. But, you know that of course, otherwise you wouldn't be threatening us."
Clara held up another key "Did you just say no?"
"Clara," I said, "If we change the events that brought you here, you will never come here and ask us to change those events. Paradox loop. The timeline disintegrates. Your timeline."
"And yes," said Annabelle.
"Yes?" asked Clara.
"Yes," said Annabelle, "I did just say no. Throw away the key."
Clara didn't throw the key, but she said, "I have seen you three change time, I have seen you three break any rule you want."
"We know when we can, we know when we can't," said The Doctor, "Throw the key."
Clara didn't throw the key, "I know what you're doing. You're trying to take control."
"We are in control," I said, "Throw away the key. Do as you are told."
"No!"
"Well, either you do as you're told or stop threatening us," said Annabelle, "There really isn't a third option here."
"Do you know what? When it comes to taking control, you three really are out of your depth." Then Clara threw the other four, "One last chance. And I don't care about the rules, I don't give a damn about paradoxes. Save Danny. Bring him back or I swear you will never step inside your TARDIS again."
"No," said The Doctor.
"Do as you are told," said Clara.
"No," said The Doctor and I
"Say it again so I know you mean it."
"No!" said The Doctor, Annabelle and I.
"I'm not kidding…"
"Neither are we" I said.
"I will do it!" said Clara, as she held out the key over the crater.
"I don't think you will!" said Annabelle.
Then Clara threw the key. We stood there stunned and Clara was stunned by her actions. She put her hand to her mouth. She fell to her knees and started to cry, "Oh, I'd say I'm sorry but I'd do it again. I'd do it again," Clara looked at us and said, "Well, what are you doing? Why are you just standing there? Do you understand what I have just done?"
There was a pause then The Doctor said, "Look in your hand."
"There's nothing in my hand," said Clara.
"Clara, look in your hand," I said.
"The keys, they're gone. They're down there. They've gone."
"Clara, look in your hand," said Annabelle.
"There's nothing in my hand," said Clara.
"Yes, yes, yes, there is. Look," said The Doctor.
Clara looked in her hand and saw the 'sleep' patch, "Did you seriously think that that was going to work on us?" said Annabelle, "They're not sleep patches. They induce a dream state." Annabelle removed the patch and Clara found herself back in the console room.
We went to pick up the keys, "It makes you very suggestible," I said, "We allowed the whole scenario to play out just as you planned. We were curious about how far you would go."
"Well, now you know," said Clara.
"Yeah. Now we know," said The Doctor.
"I love him."
The Doctor scanned Clara with his sonic, "Yes, you're quite the mess of chemicals, aren't you?" Then, he walked around the console and started to enter some information.
"So, what now? What do we do now? You and us, what happens now?"
"Go to hell," I said.
"Fair enough. Absolutely fair enough."
Clara started for the door. Then I said, "Clara?" she stopped and turned, "You asked what we're going to do. I told you. We're going to hell," I said as we walked over to her, "Or wherever it is people go when they die. If there is anywhere."
"Wherever it is, we're going to go there and we're going to find Danny," said Annabelle, "And if it is in any way possible, we're going to bring him home.
"Almost every culture in the universe has some concept of an afterlife," said The Doctor, as us three Time Lords walked back over to the console, "I always meant to have a look around, see if I could find one."
"You're going to help me?" asked Clara.
"Well, why wouldn't we help you?" I asked.
"Because of what I just did. I just..."
"Betrayed us. You betrayed our trust"
"You betrayed our friendship," said Annabelle.
"You betrayed everything that the three of us ever stood for," said The Doctor, as he pointed at the three of us. Then, he pointed at Clara, "You let us down!"
"Then why are you helping me?" asked Clara.
"Why?" I asked as I walked back toward her, "Do you think we care for you so little that betraying us would make a difference?"
The Doctor walked over and said, "Stop it with the eyes. Don't do that with the eyes. How do you do that anyway? It's like they inflate."
"Cut out the whining while you're at it," said Annabelle, as she got right in Clara's face, "We've got work to do. This is it, Clara, one of those moments."
"What moments?" asked Clara.
"The darkest day. The blackest hour. Chin up, shoulders back. Let's see what we're made of, the four of us," Annabelle then walked back over to the console.
Clara followed him and The Doctor said, "Switching off the safeguards, turning off the nav-com. Remember, we did this before. We plugged you into the TARDIS telepathic interface." The Doctor move her over to that panel of the console.
"We ended up all over Danny's timestream."
"Because you and he are linked. Strongly linked. Your timestreams are intertwined. So if he's anywhere at all, that link will hold. Give me your hands." He turned Clara to the telepathic interface
"Doctor..."
"We're in a hurry.".
"I don't deserve friends like you," said Clara.
"Clara, I hate to disagree with you," I said, "but we're exactly what you deserve."
The Doctor then put Clara's hands into the telepathic interface, "Think about Danny," said The Doctor, "Think about the man you lost. Let it hurt. Let it burn. But don't bleat."
Clara closed her eyes and then I said, "Don't ask, why him? Why me? Forget all that. Ask one question. Just one. Ask, where is Danny Pink now? Where is he now?"
A few moments later, the TARDIS came to life and started up, "Well, the TARDIS thinks he's somewhere," said Annabelle.
A few moments later the TARDIS came to a stop, "Where are we?" asked Clara
"Nav-com's offline," said The Doctor, "We'll have to do this old school." Then, we started to head for the door.
"But this is where Danny is?" asked Clara.
"Almost certainly no," I said, "This is where there's a connection with Danny. According to the TARDIS, this is where it's most likely that your timeline will re-intersect with his."
"And that won't do," said The Doctor.
"What won't?" asked Clara.
"You won't. Look at you. I need skeptical, clever, critical. I don't need mopey. It put years on your face. And what if people see us together? It looks like you've been melted.
"Are you forgetting why we're here?"
"We're here to get your boyfriend back from the dead, so buck up and give me some attitude."
We each grabbed a flashlights and found ourselves in a darkened room. We looked around and saw a marble stone that read "Rest in Peace." We turned around and saw the reflection of light through water and we could hear water bubbling. "Fish tanks?" asked Clara.
"In a mausoleum?' I asked.
We walked some steps and there was another marble stone that read "Rest in Peace." Then under that it said, "We Promise."
"What does that mean?" asked Clara.
"It means those are definitely not fish tanks," said Annabelle.
Then we started up another set of stairs. We walked around a corner and saw one of the tanks. There was a skeleton sitting in a chair, "Why?" asked Clara.
"I don't know," said The Doctor. We looked around and we saw more tanks and each one had a skeleton sitting in a chair.
"OK, I'm assuming they didn't actually drown in there."
"No," I said, "They were placed, after death. These are tombs. Water tombs, some sort of fluid, anyway." We started to walk down the hall.
"With chairs?" asked Clara
"With chairs, yes," said Annabelle, "Extra comfort for the deceased. It pays to die rich."
"Oh, God. Am I going to find Danny now? Is that why the TARDIS brought us here? I don't want to see him like that."
"Good point," said The Doctor, "Tombs with windows. Who wants to watch their loved ones' rot? Why would anyone go to so much trouble just to keep watch on the dead?"
The Doctor then saw what looked like a guest sign-in book. He opened it and saw it was blank. He placed his hand on it and spread his fingers apart. A hologram cube appeared. The Doctor pushed it side and it flew in front of us. He touched it and "3W" in a circle. Then a female voice started to speak as she spoke the worlds appeared in front of us, "3W. Death is not an end. But we can we help with that. Ever since 3W encountered the truth about the death experience, 'we have been working hard to find a better life for the deceased. At 3W, afterlife means aftercare." Then the 3W logo returned.
"OK. Bit strange?" said Clara.
"Very. Why have the scrolling and a voice? Is it difficult?" asked The Doctor.
"Is what difficult?"
"Reading all those words back to front." Just then a woman's eyes appeared behind the hologram, "Come on. We've come a long way."
Just then the woman stepped through the hologram and it dissipated. The woman had black hair and was dressed kind of like Mary Poppins. She walked right up to The Doctor and said, "Hello. I hope you're well. How may I assist you with your death?"
"Well, there is, er, no immediate hurry," said The Doctor, as he started to walk around the woman, "We're just, er. We're just..."
"Browsing," said Clara.
"Yeah, yeah, browsing."
"Please, take all the time you need," said the woman, "At 3W, you always have the rest of your life."
"Oh, good," I said, "That's good to know. Isn't it Annabelle?"
"Yeah. Great," she said.
"Exactly what is 3W?" asked The Doctor, as he stopped walking.
"Apologies," said the woman, "Clearly you have not received the official 3W greetings package."
"Well, you know, it's just an unexpected..."
The woman threw herself at The Doctor, pinned him against the wall and kissed him, very passionately, on the lips for several moments. Clara, Annabelle and I were stunned. She kissed him on the nose a couple times then pulled away from him, "Welcome to the 3W Institute."
The Doctor was just a stunned as the rest of us. He was still leaning against the wall and asked, "Clara, is it over now?"
"I think it's over, yeah," said Clara.
"None of you have received the official welcome package," said the woman.
She moved toward us, "Oh, I'm good, thanks. No worries."
"Me too," I said.
"Me three," said Annabelle.
"Who are you?" asked The Doctor.
"I am Missy," said the woman.
"Missy?" I asked.
"Mobile Intelligent Systems Interface. I am a multi-function, interactive welcome-droid. Helping you to help me to help you."
"You're very er realistic," said The Doctor.
"Tongues?" asked Clara.
"Shut up."
"I am fully programmed with social interaction norms appropriate to a range of visitors," said Missy, "Please indicate if you'd like me to adjust my intimacy setting."
"Oh, yes, please," said The Doctor, "Please do that. Do that now right now."
"Maybe just a tad, yeah," said Clara.
"We need to speak to whoever's in charge here," I said.
"I am in charge," said Missy
"Well, who's in charge of you?" asked Annabelle.
"I'm in charge of me."
"Well, who repairs you?" asked The Doctor, "Who, who maintains you?"
"I am programmed for self-repair," said Missy, "I am maintained by my heart." Missy grabbed The Doctor's hand and put it on her heart, "Is everything in order?"
"Who maintains your heart?"
"My heart is maintained by the Doctor."
"Doctor who?"
"Doctor Chang!" shouted Missy, then she walked away. The Doctor kept his hand up in the air.
"Who's there?" said a male voice. Then, a young man walked in, "Hello?" he said.
"Hello," said Clara.
"Hello," said The Doctor, Annabelle and I
"You can probably take your hand down now, Doctor," said Clara.
The Doctor put his hand down then Dr. Chang said, "So. Hey. Condolences."
"Condolences?" I asked.
It's a mausoleum. It's our hello. Is there a particular dead person you want to talk to?"
We looked at Clara and then she said, "Yes. Yes, there is."
"This way then," said Dr. Chang.
"Are you OK?" I asked Clara.
"No," she said as she offered her hand
I held it and said, "Good. There would be something very wrong if you were."
Dr. Chang took us to his office and laboratory. It was quite large and there was a tank in the middle of the room, "Come in, come in. Going to need to take a reading off you," he said as he flipped a switch on the pillar behind his desk.
"A reading?" asked Clara
"Won't hurt."
"What won't?"
The Doctor, Annabelle and I started to look around, "How does the body keep its integrity?" asked The Doctor, "Why isn't it just a bunch of bones floating about?"
"Each body is encased in a support exoskeleton.," said Dr. Chang.
"An invisible exoskeleton?" asked Clara.
"It's only invisible in the water. There's a specially engineered refraction index in the fluid so we can see the tank resident unimpeded by the support mechanisms."
"So each skeleton is inside something?" I asked.
"Are you serious?" asked Clara, "X-ray water?"
"It's so cool," said Dr. Chang, "Look at this." He walked over to a large container of the tank water, "We call it dark water." He dipped his left hand in the dark water and the watch he was wearing and the cuff of his jacket disappeared, "Only organic matter can be seen through it." He pulled his hand out and the watch and his jacket were back to normal. He grabbed a towel to dry his hand off and said, "I keep saying they should use this stuff in swimming pools."
I rolled my eyes and The Doctor said, "Why?"
"Think about it," said Dr. Chang.
"I am thinking about it. Why?"
"It doesn't matter," I said, "3W, what kind of name is that? What does it mean?"
"Well, you know, don't you?" asked Dr. Chang, "You're here on business or they wouldn't have let you in." There was a pause then he said, "Sorry. Should have checked. Who are you?"
Annabelle stepped up to him, "I thought that you would never ask. You really need to work on your security protocols, they are horrible…" She showed him her psychic paper.
"Another government inspection?" said Dr. Chang, "So soon? Why is there all this swearing?"
Annabelle took it back, "Oh sorry, I've got a LOT of internalized anger. Now answer my colleague's question… What does 3W stand for?"
"Well, the three words."
"What three words?" asked Clara.
'Seriously? You don't know?" asked Dr. Chang.
"Never mind what we know and what we don't know, just answer our question," said The Doctor.
"Because people who don't know, when they hear about this, they can freak out.
"We're not going to freak out," said Annabelle.
"If you've had a recent loss, this might be… this will be disturbing," said Dr. Chang.
"She'll be fine," said The Doctor.
"Speak for me again, I'll detach something from you," said Clara, "I'll be fine."
Dr. Chang walked over to he's desk and press another button on the pillar behind it, "You know how people are scared of dying? Like, everybody."
"Of course," I said, "It's the most fundamental fear in the universe."
"They'd be a lot more scared if they knew what it was really like," said Dr. Chang. A clear screen on the desk turned toward us and the 3W logo appeared on the desk. We sat down and we heard static coming from the screen, "White noise off the telly. We've all heard it. A few years ago, Doctor Skarosa, our founder, did something unexpected. He played that noise through a translation matrix of his own devising. This is a recording of what he heard." Dr. Chang flipped a switch on the screen, and we heard a jumble of voices.
"OK, people, voices," said Clara.
"So what?" I asked.
"Over time, Doctor Skarosa became convinced these were the voices of the recently departed," said Dr. Chang, "He believed it was a telepathic communication from the dead."
"Why?" asked The Doctor, "Was he an idiot?"
"He was able to isolate some of the voices, hear what they were saying."
"So, an idiot then."
"Shut up, Doctor," said Clara.
"What I'm about to play you will change your life and not for the better," said Dr. Chang, "These are the three words which caused Doctor Skarosa to set up institutes, like this one, all over the world, to protect the dead. If you'd rather not hear these words, there's still time..."
"Can you hurry up, please, before I'll hit you with my shoe," said Annabelle.
Then, Dr. Chang pressed a button and a voice stared to play, "Don't cremate me. Don't cremate me!"
"There is one simple, horrible possibility that has never occurred to anyone throughout human history," said Dr. Chang.
The voice continued, "Don't cremate me. Don't cremate me!"
Clara shook her head, "Don't say it."
"The dead remain conscious," said Dr. Chang, "The dead are fully aware of everything that is happening to them." Then, he turned off the recording.
The Doctor stood up and said, "Fakery. All of it." He stood up and walked over to the tank. Just then the screen started to beep, "It's a con, it's a racket!"
The rest of us stood up and followed him, "I promise you this is not a con," said Dr. Chang.
"What's that beeping?" asked Clara.
"Never mind about beeping," said The Doctor, "Who cares about beeping? The dead are dead. They're not talking to you out of your television sets. They're just gone. And all these poor souls down there in these tanks, I'm sorry, but they're just dead and they're not coming back."
Then we started to hear Danny's voice, "Clara? Clara? Clara, are you there?"
Clara rushed up to the desk, "Danny! I can hear you. Is that you? Oh, please, say it's you. "
There was no answer then Dr. Chang said, "Just lost the signal. But I can track it back, I'm pretty sure."
"I don't, I don't understand. What is happening?" asked Clara.
"We've been scanning you telepathically since you came in. You said you wanted to speak to someone who'd passed, and we've found you a match in the Nethersphere."
"This isn't possible," I said, "The dead don't come back."
"It was him," said Clara, "It was his voice."
"If they scanned you telepathically, they could've lifted a voice print. It could still be a fake."
"Getting him back, very nearly!" said Dr. Chang.
"Clara, can you hear me?" asked Danny's voice.
"Yes, Danny, I can hear you. Can you hear me?" asked Clara.
"Yeah, yeah, I can hear you."
"Clara! Oh, God. Clara..."
"What do I do?"
"Who are you talking to?"
"Hang on just a moment."
"Question him," said The Doctor, "Ask him questions only he'd know the answer to. Be sure. You, with us."
"Where are you going?" asked Clara.
"We've got to check out those tanks. There's something that we're missing."
"Clara?" said Danny's voice.
"Be skeptical and critical," I said, But most importantly… Be strong, even if it breaks your heart."
"Connection's stabilized," said Dr. Chang as we walked for the door, "It should be OK."
"Who would harvest dead bodies?" asked Annabelle, "I feel like we're missing something obvious."
We returned to the tank gallery where we first me Dr. Chang and Missy. All of the skeletons in the tanks were standing and the black water was bubbling, "Oh, my God. The tanks The tanks are activating! They're not supposed to do that."
"And all your dead people are standing," said The Doctor, as us Time Lords went to look at the tanks, "Don't you think you skipped the headline?"
Just then Missy walked in, "Now, now, children." She pointed a device at us and then Dr. Chang, "Naughty, naughty."
"Dr. Chang, your welcome droid has developed a fault," said Annabelle.
"That's not a droid. That's my boss," said Dr. Chang.
"You know, I might have been guilty of a just teensy little fibette," said Missy. She looked at Dr. Chang, "Dr. Chang, I really liked working with you. I've enjoyed every day of it."
"I'm sorry?"
"You know, I've even got a little photograph of you looking so sweet. I'm always going to keep it. Always!"
"Are you going to kill me?"
"Now, come on. Let's not dwell on horrid things. This is going to be our last conversation, and I'm the one who's going to have to live with that."
"Please don't kill me."
"Say something nice."
Dr. Chang smiled in fear, "Please, please. I don't, I don't want to die. You're going to kill me, aren't you?"
"Say something nice."
"Please!"
"Doctor Chang, I've got all day. And I'm not going to kill you until you say something nice."
"It has been an absolute pleasure working with you, and I truly believe that you'll never be able to find it in your heart to murder me."
Missy pressed a button in her device and a red beam appeared out it and disengaged Dr. Chang. We started to back away from Missy, "Now, I'll be with you in a moment," said Missy, "Just feeling a bit emotional at the moment."
We looked up and saw the dark water was starting to empty out of the tanks. The head of the skeleton in the tank we were standing next to started be uncovered and we were shocked when we started to see some very familiar silver handles, "Cybermen!" said the three of us Time Lords together.
The water reached shoulder level and we rushed up to Missy, "They're all Cybermen!" said Annabelle, "We've got to stop them from getting out."
"Now who's missing the headline?" said Missy, "The Nethersphere." She pointed to a large sphere in the center of the room." We ran to the railing and looked up at it, "You know it's ever so funny, the people that live inside that think they've gone to heaven."
"That's a matrix data-slice," I said, "A Gallifreyan hard drive. That's Time Lord technology."
"Imagine you could upload dying minds to that. Edit them. Rearrange them. Get rid of all those boring emotions. Ready to be re-downloaded. Meanwhile, you upgrade the bodies.
Upload the mind, upgrade the body. Cybermen from cyberspace. Now, why has no-one ever thought of that before?"
"How did you get hold of Time Lord technology?" asked The Doctor, "Who are you?"
Missy smiled, "You know who I am. I told you. You felt it," she gasped and put her hand on her heart, "Surely you did."
She walked toward us but we circled around and started to walk away from her, "Two hearts," said The Doctor.
"And both of them yours," said Missy.
"You're a Time Lord?" I asked, as we backed away from her.
"Time Lady, please, I'm old-fashioned."
"Which Time Lady?" asked The Doctor.
"The one you abandoned, Doctor," The one you left for dead. Didn't you ever think I'd find my way back?
"Clara. Clara. Clara," said The Doctor as we ran for the elevator, "We've got to get Clara!"
"Oh, Clara, Clara, Clara!" mocked Missy, "You know I should shoot you in a jealous rage. Now, wouldn't that be sexy? I've turned the lift off, though."
"I assume you have stairs," asked Annabelle.
"Well, I'm not a Dalek."
Annabelle tried a door buy found it lock. She took out he sonic screwdriver and we ran up the stairs and outside. We found ourselves standing outside St. Paul's Cathedral in London. Missy came up behind us and put a hand on The Doctor's shoulder, "Oh, dear, Doctor. Didn't you realize where you were?" Then, the church bells started to ring.
We ran down the steps and down the street, "Get away from here! All of you, run!" shouted The Doctor.
"Go!" I shouted, "Go! Get away from here! Run away!"
"Run, run!" shouted Annabelle, "Get away from here all of you, now!"
"I'm sorry, everyone," said Missy, as she sat on some steps, "Another ranting Scotsman and a couple yelling Americans in the street. I had no idea there was a match on."
"Get away, go!" shouted The Doctor.
"Stop shouting, love," as Missy came up to us, "Stop making a fuss. It's too late. All the graves of planet Earth are about to give birth." She turned The Doctor back toward St. Paul's, Annabelle and I followed. We saw Cybermen coming out the front, "You know the key strategic weakness of the human race? The dead outnumber the living."
"Who are you?" asked Annabelle.
"Oh, you know who I am. I'm Missy."
"Who's Missy?" I asked.
"Please, try to keep up," said Missy, "Short for Mistress," she turned The Doctor toward her Annabelle and I followed, "Well... I couldn't very well keep calling myself... The Master, now could I?" The Doctor, Annabelle and I were completely stunned. My other uncle… well, now it would be aunt… was back!
