Part 2

One in a Million Chances

Unlike their eldest son; Kuon, they had a close family friend to guide, assist and even update them about his progress and well being. Sadly, in the case of their younest the couple were left in the dark and had no one else to reach out asking for help to at least check Julianne's state, both were worried sick every single day from the time he left without a word.

Kuu and Julie are desperate to know, however, they feared that their son is further going to despise them if they middle with his new life as a University student in another country.

Yes, their youngest kept his given and last name, indeed. However the weight of distance and hatred from their son is gravely felt by the couple. It has been four years without any news or at least little information about with their Julianne. "What's wrong darling?" Kuu went to comfort his wife after she checked what was sent to her phone.

In awe, "It's him!" Kuu's eyes grew wide and gently took the phone that was shoved to is face. It was a short stolen clip of their son, hanging out with three other boys in their living room flat wearing matching hoodies with their heads burried in books. Kuu noticed that their son grew thin and pale, his shirt was a bit slimmer to fit his figure, his previous neck long hair is now shaved to a comb over pompadour-fade and his eyes had dark circles under it.

"Who sent it?" Kuu wiping a little stray tear from his eyes and kept on kissing his wife's temple delighted that after four years of lack of information, they finally get to at least see their youngest child again.

"His best friend, Liam did." Julie felt relieved that their son was fine, "He kept on reaching out after he learned what is happening with Julianne. He's been trying to contact our baby non-stop for the last four years, and finally our Sasha responded!" Julie explained reading the additional chat, Julianne's childhood best friend sent. However the fact that his complexion and weight was terrible, they grew worried. "Liam even said, Julienne is taking Engineering with double major and a secondary course! Business Administration with double major as well!" Julie informed her husband who felt proud yet flustered considering he was oblivious of their youngest's academic gift and lack of emotional and moral support.

Remorseful, "I wish I could have paid more attention and said how much I am proud and love him." The regret and guilt he had in his heart kept him sleepless. In the past, after learning why their youngest son acted hostile and rebellious, he was desperate to apologize, beg for his forgiveness and express how pleased and proud he was for pursuing his studies despite his previous career in acting, balancing his other part-time jobs and moat importantly, keeping himself out of trouble and tangling with the wrong crowd.

Kuu watched the thirty minute "Day in the life" short video Julianne recorded for his worried best friend. From waking-up on his own, make his breakfast, whipping a decent warm and freshly cooked meal, prepping his lunch and snacks to save-up money. Julie was pleased to know that her youngest picks out decent clothes for his class that matched his backpack and even owned an electric longboard that gets him around his huge campus freely and quickly.

He also kept a part time job at a café that supports his allowance and supplies for a month. Kuu also found out that the money they send and transfer to his account wasn't used, not a penny has been withdrawn. Julianne also has been a scholar and played varsity for his school to be able to study without paying a single dime. "If I'm given a single chance from a million scenarios... I'd take it in a heartbeat and make the most of it." Julie hugged him tight knowing Kuu has been punishing himself for what happened. Kuu breathed shakily holding his tears, "I never knew he was a great kid. I assumed he was just going through a hormonal puberty and in a phrase like Kuon did! I know I was upset whenever we get home without any greeting from him and he would be up lazing around and sleeping."

His wife equally feeling guilty, "But instead he's just tired from his part time..." Julie too scolded Julianne for such rude behavior.

Later that evening, the couple still felt the numb emptiness in their home after their eldest son ended the routine daily calls.

In the middle of the night, it has been a common occurance that Kuu would be breaking in a sweat and mumbling apologies, "Honey!" Julie shook her husband having a nightmare. Kuu sat on his side of the bed and heavily breathed collecting himself.

A lot has been going through his mind, "It still hunts me, darling." biting his lip, "I never felt like this with Kuon since I know he'll return once he reached his goals." he turned to his wife. "Julianne, he was hurt because of me, he left because he hates me. What if we lose him for good?" Julie finally embraced him crying.

"He'll come home. We just need to give him time." Julie burst in tears. "Sofia told me he just need space to breathe. He is a sweet boy, all we need to do when he comes back is apologize, make up for the years we missed. And let him know how that we are wrong and misunderstood him." Kuu wished it was that easy, but he knew Julianne's anger is deeper than the emotional wound he inflicted.

The next morning having their breakfast, they shared silence after last night's nightmare. Kuu dropped Julie to her work like usual and headed to his own with his manager. Kuu pulled down visor and stared for a moment the cute picture of his two sons when they were quite younger, Kuu holding the youngest securely while a toddler Kuon peeked at his baby bother. "I'm sorry." he sighed and drove to his outdoor taping location.

Weekend, the couple were relaxing in their backyard lounge keeping themselves occupied and browsing through social media checking for any updates about their eldest son and his girlfriend after the younger couple announced their engagement. Kuu's phone started blaring and when he answered, "Really!" he suddenly stood from the news, "When?!" quickly sprinting to Julie.

"Tomorrow! Are you sure?" dumbfounded but excited he turned to his wife. "Thank you, Liam, you're a blessing! We'll be there." he burst in a wide smile looking at his wife ending his call.

Julie confused, "What's going on?" Julie curiously why her husband is quite thrilled.

Kuu was fidgeting in excitement, "Julianne, he's coming home tomorrow!" he announced and Julie dropped her phone covering her mouth. They shared an embrace and prepared everything, starting with their son's room. Liam then further explained that Julianne was just coming home to only collect his personal documentation, but schemed to reunite the family and provide the good couple a change to patch things up with their son.

Calling the house keeper to clean all the dust and change their son's bed covers to a fresh one. The spouses realized they never entered the said room after everything that happened four years ago and it reminds them of their grave mistakes.

Julie smiled seeing the framed medals and certificates that decorated their walls. She couldn't be more proud after having gifted sons; her eldest being an acting prodigy and award-winning best-actor in both Japan and now in America, while her youngest is a genius, skipping grades and years in his study and invited into one of the prestigious University in the world.

Though, still remorseful that she and her husband stained their relationship with the youngest. With the chance provided, she will do everything within her power to make everything right for her Julianne.

The next day, "Honey, are you ready?" Kuu anxiously asked his wife who is equally feeling the same.

"Yes. Have you called Paul?" she inquired.

With a nervous nod, "I did, he'll handle the aftermath." Kuu had to bite his tongue in fear of what's going to happen.

It was long agonizing drive despite it only took them twenty minutes to reach the the airport. The couple created massive chaos after fans spotted them, but safely made it to the designated area where high profile celebrities and figures can be safe and still meet with their son's best friends. Kuu and Julie gave the boys tight hugs and grateful appreciation after the four years they had been keeping the couple company, entertained with their stories about Julianne with their mischief and adventures in school as well the warm comfort after their youngest coldly left.

Spotting the familiar figure, despite the changes in hight and physic, "He's here!" Julie jumped covering her mouth in anticipation.

The father fidgeted in place, "I'm scared I'm going to screw this up." Kuu admitted and the boys patted the older man with a reassuring smile.

"I think you gave him plenty of time to breathe and heal. But, please don't immediately smother him all at once, we all know how awkward and socially challenged he is to people he is distant with." The boys didn't want to offend the couple by telling the parents how distant their son was, "Julianne is very sensitive and hates coddling, its better to go slowly." one of their son's beat friend reminded and advised.

Respectfully, "Understood." Kuu nodded. A minute later, people from the arrival started to come out, and when Julianne appeared, he was tackled by his best friends and shared a tight hug with tears. He wore a sad smile, his parents were slightly jealous of his close relationship with his childhood friends.

When Julianne saw his parents he sighed anxiously and stood there. Julie started to slowly walk her way to him and gently held him. Kuu followed along, this time they weren't pushed but their son, rather remained silent, stood frozen and never returning the embrace.

"I'm sorry, I didn't know." was Kuu's words tightly hugging his son. As a father he was lost, he didn't know where to start and where to position himself letting his boy know that he misunderstood and became unreasonably strict towards him that it became suffocating.

Laced with sarcasm, "Of course you wouldn't..." yes, Kuu is guilty being clueless of his son's life and feelings after his attention went to his absentee eldest son.

Thrilled that their youngest is finaly back, "Let's take you home." Julie cupped Julianne's cheek and gave him another hug. Bystanders and fans were having a field day recording and taking pictures of the powerhouse celebrity couple and the son they never seen for a long time.

The ride home was silent and heavy, no words were exchanged, Julie felt relieved that her son is back but got concerned because he was terribly thin and pale, his eyes having dark circles.

Well dressed in his short sleeved-black button-down shirt, khaki slim fit pants and brown casual lace up-oxford shoes. However the his aviator framed glasses had a thick prescription lenses and currently worndown and the previously gold rim is now fading. Julie interested to know what happened to the four years he had been away, concerned that he had been sick.

Arriving home, they brought him to his old room, "You should've changed this to a storage or something, I can afford my own place now." Implying they should've completely forget about him. Kuu and Julie's heart could not help but feel the tight pain.

Kuu knew he failed his son and now Julienne feels he was the outcast and unwanted child. "I know I fucked being a father and neglected your emotional needs, but don't ever think that you were unwanted and disliked." Kuu made it clear.

With a bitter snort and eye-roll, "Tell that to the comparison you've done over the years." he said and picked up his bags and about to storm out the house. Kuu knew he screwed up again. With a long sigh Kuu slowly dropped to the floor and leaned back to the wall blaming himself again.

Julie chased him, "Please..." pleaded by Julie.

Kuu quickly got up and collected himself and hurried to get his son back, "I know I messed up and failed to understand you, but please... don't leave." Kuu was desperately pleading.

"Stop sugar coating your words, I'm twenty-one, I'm supposed to be thrown out anyways." Julianne flatly said.

"Not in this house." Kuu shook his head. "We missed half of your life and focused on Kuon, I thought if we have you close by we don't have to worry about anything. But we realized when you keft without a word, we learned about your struggles in school and how you worked hard for every penny you earned. Your mom and I owe you ten folds." Kuu held him tighter refusing to let go.

"I'm so sorry, son. I... I don't know how to deal with this, or how I can make it up to you." he admitted. "Apology isn't enough." Julianne remained silent.

Dinner was quiet as well, but the house felt a little less empty now that he was there with them. Julie however despite being told not to coddle her son, she had been too clingy and smothered him all at once which made the young man recessive.

"Darling." Kuu scolded her, "Give him a little space to breathe." Kuu gave her a sad smile and Julie understood.

Kuu doing his best to break the awkward silence, "So... tell me what have you been up to for the past four years?" he asked even though he and Julie was up-to-date with his courses, classes, grades and even fraternity life and adventures. Yet, they still wanted to know directly from him and secretly eager that their son would share personal stories bout his life as a University student. But sadly, they are aware that is far from what's going to happen.

With a cold response, "Enrolled and graduated with Engineering and B.A. degrees..." Julie acted surprise by gasping.

Still in awe, "So you're an Engineer now!" she excitedly asked.

Julianne nodded, "Freshly taken the Board and passed. He left out the information that he was the top-nocher and raising the highest score record.

Curious, "So you took B.A as well! What major? And you're planning to take over mommy's Business?" Julie could not keep her excitement that her namesake is taking after her so much.

Again with his cold reply, "Double majors in Financial and Marketing Management. And no... I am currently managing and expanding my own business." Kuu and Julie was not informed about his ventures but still thrilled and proud of his own achievements, though a little disappointed with themselves that they failed as parents to provide him with the support he needed.

Still, Julie was eager, "Can you tell mommy, what it is? Is it in the fashion line too!" she squealed.

Wiping his lips with the offered table napkin, "Arms and Defense Industry..." another short reply. Kuu was glad he was answering even though it was plain and cold response, but shocked to know their son took a fancy to something they did not expect. During their meal, the couple failed to realize Julianne didn't even want to talk or at least join then for dinner.

"Aw... and here I thought you'd like to be the same as mommy."

Again with sarcasm, "Not everyone wants to peck someone else's breadcrumbs." taking a bite from his stake. Julie felt dejected after his sour and mean remark.

Kuu was not pleased with how his son was treating Julie, but knowing how much Julianne despise them both and merely being civil out of respect as parents, "So what do plan now?" his dad asked him.

"Masters degree for my B.A."

Julie started to feel anxious, "Where?" anticipating Julianne would move to another state or country and leave them foor good.

Without looking at his parents, "Haven't decided yet." Julie breathed in relief, the couple then later learned that their Julianne received multiple invitations from top universities in their country, and he got accepted to all four universities that he actually applied for his masters.

With dinner done, they retired to their respective rooms, Kuu still had those little episodes of nightmares, "He's here now." Julie reminded, "It'll take more time, but he's with us now." kissing his shoulder.

"I think its time for me to visit a therapist huh?" Kuu suggested.

"Would that help?" she asked.

"I don't honestly know, but I would like to fix myself for our family."

"Then you should, I would support you." Julie kissed his nose.

"Thank you, darling." Kuu kissed her back.

Two weeks later, "Kuon! Kyoko!" the spouses were surprised by their favorite younger couple who arrived and surprised them in their doorsteps.

Kuon wasted no time to inquire, "Where's Julianne?" immediately searching for his brother.

Kuu helping his son carry their baggage, "He's at the garden, I don't know what he's doing with his computer everyday but he's there." Kuu informed and Kuon rushed to see his sibling.

Finding his brother in plain black shirt and jogger shorts with a pair of flip-flops, he was typing away on his computer, Kuon tackled him to a tight embrace, apologizing.

Similar to their parents, he was ignored but worse, Kuon was aggressively pushed away causing him to tumble back and darted with a glare.

"Kuon." Kuu scolded him, "Give your brother some space."

"I'm sorry, I missed him for the whole nine years, the last time we met was a very brief and bitter one four years ago... I only saw him leaving and want able to apologize and bond with him." Kuon rubbed his nape on embarrassment.

His father shook his head and grabbed him to separate from his brother, "For now that's impossible." sighed by Kuu, "We're trying to progress in his own pace, we wanted to fix things but in order to do that, we need to earn back his trust... Right now its like we're walking in a forest filled with brittle twigs, and at anytime he will snap and leave." Kuu admitted.

"I can see that." Kuon turned to his brother.

While Kuu and Julie left for work that afternoon, "Hi?" Kyoko smiled greeting him from the balcony lounge.

Julianne only looked up and never replied and continued to type in his computer, dismissing the stranger that greeted him, "Nice to meet you, my name is Kyoko Mogami. I feel bad that I wasn't able to introduce myself in the past." She made a friendly introduction.

Without his eyes leaving the monitor, "Julianne D. Hizuri." a very short and a little rude introduction which Kyoko did not mind considering the circumstances, yet Kyoko still offered her hand out of politeness. Julienne sighed, tired of the conversation already accepted her kind gesture and took her hand. At first Julienne paid no mind about her blabbering until he too started to respond.

For once, Kuon saw his brother from the window to be in a friendly mood and interactive, Kuon prayed to the heavens about him being blessed with an angelic future-wife. Kyoko and Julianne conversed in a heartily manner and shared a bit of laughter.

"It seems, the little miss caught young Julio's heart, bless her~" their house keeper commented. Kuon wanted to join them but afraid that it would ruin the mood.

"Kuon's right over there, can we invite him?" Kyoko pushed her luck, Julianne seemed to be uncomfortable but allowed it and nodded.

Shortly Kuon joined however he let his fiancée take over and let her handle things instead. Kyoko seemed to be fascinated with Julianne's permanent inks all over his arm up to his shoulder and Kuon found it cool.

"When did you get your first ink?" Kuon finally asked.

"When I turned seventeen, flatmate dared." He had a short response.

"Can I see?" Kuon politely asked and his brother rolled up his sleeve and showed the mark under his bicep, Kuon whistled impressed at the design, it was quite big for a first tattoo.

"Did it hurt?" He asked in concern and Julianne shook his head. Meanwhile Kyoko seemed pleased to have the brother talked for the first time. Taking notice at the beautiful cursive under his forearm, Thankfully Kuon understands and read a little Latin since he lived in California and few of his friends in the pasts were Latinos. Kuon's eyes grew sad reading the words.

"How are you now?" He finally asked.

"Medication and therapies." Julianne's small reply.

"That is good. I'm so sorry for what happened, but I am happy you are alive." Kuon badly wanted to hug him however preferred to give his brother the space. For the afternoon they had quite the conversation. Kuon thanked his future-wife for the help.

"I am going to murder you if you are not going to keep her." Julianne threatened his brother who chuckled.

"Don't worry, she will soon be tied down to our family, and I want you to be there on that day." Kuon informed him that he is getting married.

"Good." And Julianne left.

Dinner time, Kuu wondered where his youngest son was, "Where's Julianne?" asked by Kuu.

"He spent dinner at his friend's house." Kuu looked down. "He said he had some business with them.

However Kuon and Kyoko was able to tell the couple that they were able to talk to Julienne and he was doing well with his health and therapy.

The next morning when Julianne came home early in the morning, he was informed by Kuu that they will have few guests over in the afternoon for a reality show and house interview, "Don't worry, I wont be a disgrace and disappointment... I'll just get some few stuff and head out." And rushed to get his small backpack with few clothes and carrying the mess of his chargers and laptop on one hand.

The couple were speechless, Kuu's remarks in the past came to bite him back real hard. Julianne lost his confidence and accepted his father's horrid expectations about him as a terrible teen.

After the crew arrived they covered every corner of the mansion and complimented the awards their children collected over the years. Minus the recent diplomas from Julianne's recent academic achievements, Julie was to scared to ask for them knowing Julianne wasn't fond of the piece of confirmation paper and might tore it in the process of his anger.

The host of the show noticed the damage made and Kuu explained the past which put him in a bad seat as an awful father missing special events in his younger son's life. Before the crew left, "Good afternoon." greeted by a man which Kuu was unfamiliar with, "Does Julianne Hizuri live here?" he asked.

"Yes and why?" Kuu confused.

"He inquired for our services." He explained.

"I told you to meet me in a café." Julianne appeared a lottle disheveled chasing after the man, and few of the female crew blushed after seeing how attractive the youngest Hizuri son in person. He was a younger version of his father with his mother's bright blonde hair and blaring emerald eyes.

The man sheepishly replied, "I'm sorry, sir. But I failed to ask which café from our call earlier."

With a frustrated huff, "I see, then can you show me the available places."

"What available places?" asked by Kuu in confusion.

"None of your business." Julianne coldly replied and left dragging the middle aged man.

In the evening Kuu sat in his home office in fear, "Julianne is moving out." it sank in.

However in the morning the family were delighted that Julianne was just moving next door after Kyoko relentlessly convinced him. The youngest however hated the idea, but he had no choice, at least he was out of his parents' roof and in is own.

Kuu's longtime best friend, confidant, advisor and trusted manager was in awe, "Maverick Tech. Industries?" Blinked by Paul gasped.

Kuu grew concerned from his manager's reaction, "Why? is there something wrong with my son's business?"

"No... nothing... That company... no! Group! Is the rising tactical enterprise that has been persistently pursued by popular and largest Military Contractor businesses!" Paul explained, "Holy shit, Kuu! Your son is a multi-billionaire!" he gasped and Kuu is dumbfounded at the information.

looking around, "Where is he by the way?" Paul asked.

"He's at his office, the mansion next door." Kuu felt relieved that his son became their neighbor and decided to stay.

"And Kuon?" Paul asked again.

"Upstairs, with Kyoko." pointing upwards.

"They might be physically home, but the other is still cold huh?" Paul patted his charge.

"He'll come around, I'm trying my best. But it's scary because we're always stepping in landmines every single day." he sighed.

"We cant blame him. His mind was washed with the thought of being the hated child. You were strict and cold. I cant blame the kid for feeling suffocated and indifferent..." Paul hit the bull's eye.

Accepting his grave mistakes, "I know and I fucked up as a father." Kuu sighed again.

After another week, "Darling, is everything ready?" asked by Julie to her husband.

"Yes. caterers are in the reception." he confirmed however he sat in their bed staring at his phone with pained look sniffling holding his tears.

"What's wrong, darling?" Julie went to check on him and see what he was reading.

Trailing her eyes at the emotional caption, "I should've expired at nineteen, but I guess simple yet kind gestures from strangers can actually save another." attached is a picture of his three friends in their University; the four of them donned an all-black, tailored-slim-fit tuxedo, behind them is the famous castle like building. Kuu was proud seeing his dashing son winning life despite diagnosed with depression, Kuu felt broken knowing he was the one that caused his child to fall apart.

"We're proud of him." Julie smiled and kissed her husband's cheek.

Kuu saved the picture in his phone and uploaded his own well wishes for his son's twenty-second birthday.

Family, friends and colleagues attended the backyard party, the wide garden accommodated the guests that came.

Strings of pictures from Julianne's infant days to adulthood displayed, including the photographs his best friends from University played into slideshow accompanied with the song 'Photograph.' Young girls that was invited by Julie were attracted to one picture.

It was recently taken by one of his best friends from University; dressed in his black mandarin collar button-down-shirt and tailored white trousers, with sleeves folded showing off his forearm full of aesthetically oleasing tattoos.

Bible verses, green ribbon with semi-colon, and similar words written in different fonts and languages all over his fore arm.

"You look perfect." Julie complimented her youngest as she lovingly place her palm on each of her child's cheeks.

Kuon, Kuu and Julianne matched after Julie insisted they wore her brand; the older boys worn a matching white mandarin collar dress shirt under their waistcoat and coat, however Julie found her youngest to fit black better. With all-black dress shirt and waistcoat to match.

Julianne however preferred to leave the coat-off and fold his sleeves back to display his forearm tattoos. Julie was really happy for the occasion, "Happy birthday, Sasha!" she greeted, but julianne had a very dried reaction and just hummed giving her a nod to politely acknowledge her out of respect.

With the party in order, Paul sighed and comforted his friend with a pat over his shoulder, "Like I said give it time If you could wait four years without any news and ord from him, what more that he's here with you."

"You're right." Kuu agreed.
